Zelma Ray
COLEMAN -- Zelma Ray, 89, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Stevens Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silver Valley Cemetery.
Mr. Ray was born in Silver Valley, where he grew up and attended school before graduating from Coleman High School. He lived in Coleman County all his life. He was a farmer and for 20 years was a school bus driver for the Novice Independent School District. He was a member of Silver Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include one sister, Juanita Ray Landers of Lawn, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 4-6 p.m. today.

Prentis Harris
COLEMAN -- Prentis Harris, 55, of Houston and formerly of Coleman, died Saturday in Houston.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Burkett Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Smith officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born in Forest, Miss., and grew up in Mississippi. He moved to Coleman about 15 years ago, then moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area and, two years ago, to Houston. He was an oil field worker and a Baptist.
Survivors include four sons, Ricky Dewayne Harris of Horn Lake, Miss., Curtis Dale Harris of Grand Prairie, Rickey Eugene Harris of Coleman and Christopher Scott Harris of Upper Marlboro, Md.; one daughter, Lisa Marie Harris of Frazier, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Lucille Furr
EASTLAND -- Lucille Furr, 94, died Saturday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bakker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Tom Poe officiating. Burial will be in Long Branch Cemetery.
Mrs. Furr was born in Breckenridge and moved to the Long Branch community as a child. She moved to Eastland in 1966 and was employed by Eastland Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church from 1915-1966, when she joined First Baptist Church.
Survivors include several cousins and nieces.

Amos Sikes
Amos T. Sikes, 77, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Crescent Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Chancellor and James U. Sikes officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Coleman Cemetery in Coleman, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Sikes was born in Shields and attended school in Coleman. He moved to Abilene from Grosvenor 44 years ago. He retired as a sergeant with the Abilene Police Department after 28 years and was the first full-time municipal court bailiff. He was a member and deacon of Crescent Heights Baptist Church. He married Delilah M. Bozeman in 1938 in Coleman.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; four sons, Arnold T. Sikes of Tyler, Jerry W. Sikes of Abilene, David G. Sikes of Albuquerque, N.M., and Charles L. Sikes of Austin; one daughter, Mary Ann Sikes of Abilene; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Edward Gill
Edward Gill, 50, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudy Fambrough officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Gill was born in Charlotte, N.C., and moved to Abilene from Germany in 1991. He was a 21-year veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked at Abilene State School and was a member of Ridgemont Baptist Church. He married Martha Gill in 1978 in Columbia, S.C.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; his mother, Louise Gill of Charlotte; one daughter, Heather Gill of Abilene; two sons, Lt. Richard Fulgium of Fort Benning, Ga., and Keith Fulgium of Lewisville; three sisters, Ann Fernandez and Charine Brady, both of Charlotte, and Hazel Gee of Brighton, Mass.; four brothers, Willie Gill and Randy Brady, both of Charlotte, Theodore Gill of Durham, N.C., and Roy Brady of Springdale, Md.; and five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Ora Schwantes
Ora Schwantes, 91, of Abilene died Sunday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. John W. Lee officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mrs. Schwantes was born in Brown County and moved to Abilene in 1927. She was a homemaker and a member of Fairmont United Methodist Church. She married Gideon H. Schwantes in 1927 in Brown County.
Survivors include four daughters, Bertha Vashaw and Peggy Ann Kirchner, both of Abilene, Betty Mae Biddle of Big Spring and Dorothy Jean Vashaw of Adrian, Mich.; one brother, Marion Gore of Brownwood; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30-7:30 p.m. today.

Larry Jay Martin
Larry Jay Martin, 39, of Abilene died Thursday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in City Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Martin was born in Amarillo and moved to Abilene from Austin 21 years ago. He was a landscaper at Hendrick Medical Center.
Survivors include his mother, Nell Martin of Abilene; one brother, Gary Martin of Abilene; one sister, Melanie Cullum of Tye; a grandmother, Beulah Estes of Ballinger; and several other relatives.

LaVerne Jones
LaVerne Jones, 80, of Abilene died Saturday at a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Tommy Shaver officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Jones was born in Locker in San Saba County and graduated from San Angelo High School. She moved to Abilene from Lufkin in the 1950s and retired in the 1980s after working for many years as a bookkeeper for Perry-Hunter-Hall. She was a charter member of Westgate Church of Christ. She married W. Andy Jones in 1940 in San Angelo; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two stepsons, Billy Mac Jones of Fort Worth and Ellis Jones of Sterling, Colo.; one brother, Clovis A. Ford of San Angelo; several stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Annie Story Rhodes
Annie B. Story Rhodes, 86, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Revs. Rudy Fambrough and Herman Lancaster officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Rhodes was born in Terrell and lived in Abilene most of her life, graduating from Abilene High School in 1930. She was a homemaker and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was active in the music program and taught Sunday school classes from Beginners through Senior Adults for 45 years. She also served in various capacities in Training Union, WMU secretary for many years and secretary for G.L.O.W. since its beginning. She was a member of West Texas Genealogical Society. She married Orel A. Rhodes in 1932 in Abilene; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Vinita Jean Williams of Abilene; two sons, Arvid Rhodes of Fort Worth and Carroll L. Rhodes of Tahoka; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three nieces and five nephews.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church Choir Fund, 1241 Cypress, Abilene 79601.
The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today.
