Clara Miers Darden
CRANE -- Clara Miers Darden, 93, formerly of the Big Country, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Crane First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Miracle officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Girard Cemetery, directed by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
Mrs. Darden was born in Mount Vernon and lived in McCaulley and Girard for many years. She moved to Crane in 1978 and was a homemaker. She was a member of Senior Citizens, Order of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, George Darden of Crane and Jim Darden of Pine Bluff, Wyo.; two daughters, Bess Pickron of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Margaret Cockrell of Waco; one sister, Maude Eivens of McCaulley; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Maudie Etta Stephenson
TALPA -- Maudie Etta Stephenson, 56, lifelong Coleman County resident, died Thursday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Walker Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Lloyd Hopper and the Rev. Lakan Mariano officiating.
Mrs. Stephenson was born in Coleman and married Bill Stephenson in 1964 in Leaday. She worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 17 years and was a member of Voss Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Talpa; one daughter, Mitzi Stephenson of Talpa; one son, Rex Stephenson of San Angelo; her mother, Estalleen Steward of Mozelle; one sister, Maureen Davidson of Talpa; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Rockwood Cemetery or Voss Baptist Church.

Lennodine 'Dene' Dunlap
COLORADO CITY -- Lennodine "Dene" Dunlap, 73, died Thursday in a San Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Northcutt officiating. Burial will be in Westbrook Cemetery.
Mrs. Dunlap was born in San Augustine and married Raymond Foy Dunlap in 1942 in Big Spring. She moved to Colorado City in 1982 and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone. She was a member of Dorn Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Colorado City; one daughter, Judith Ann McKinley of Big Spring; one son, Jerry Lynn Dunlap of Las Cruces, N.M.; one brother, Floyd Pike of Big Spring; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lillian Askew
Lillian (Mrs. Tom W.) Askew, 74, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Don Cauble officiating. Burial will be in Tuscola Cemetery.
Mrs. Askew was born in Dunn, N.C., where she attended school, and was a homemaker. She moved to Abilene in 1942 from North Carolina and worked as a nurse's aide for 15 years at Hendrick Medical Center and five years at Abilene State School. She also was a private duty aide for about 10 years. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Tom W. Askew, whom she married in 1940 in South Carolina.
Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ann Seagraves of Anderson, S.C., Kathy Crawford of Abilene and Debbie Dibble of Holyoke, Mass.; one brother, Bill Brock of California; 13 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

John Edward 'Supe' Lee
John Edward "Supe" Lee, 87, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Abilene State School Chapel with Chaplain Ray Bingham and the Rev. Don Cauble officiating. Burial will be in Abilene State School Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Lee had lived at the Abilene State School since 1921.
Survivors include one cousin, Jay Crowe of California.

Dorothy Mae Erwin
RUSK -- Dorothy Mae Erwin, 80, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a Jacksonville hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Revs. Davy Joe Hobson and Don Copeland officiating, directed by Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Erwin was born in Sand Springs and worked as a bookkeeper for many years. She lived in Abilene and Fort Worth before moving to Rusk in 1995 and was a member of Ridglea Chapter 999, Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Worth. She was a Baptist and was the widow of E.S. Erwin Jr.
Survivors include four brothers, E.L. DeFoor and W.D. DeFoor, both of Rusk, Albert DeFoor of Abilene and John DeFoor of Palestine; three sisters, Zelda Quimby of Rusk, Bobbie Patterson of Brazoria and Mary Woodward of Lufkin; and many nieces and nephews.

Vencil 'Cotton' Barnes
BAIRD -- Vencil "Cotton" Barnes, 53, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Parker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Knox Waggoner officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery Annex.
Mr. Barnes was born in Baird and graduated from Baird High School and Sul Ross State University in Alpine. He coached at Marfa for two years. He returned to Baird in 1993 from Stephenville and worked as an insurance salesman. He was a Pentecostal.
Survivors include one son, Blane Barnes of Hitchcock; two daughters, Whitnee Cleveland of Abilene and Courtney Drooker of Stephenville; his father, J.D. Barnes of Baird; one brother, Jimmie D. Barnes of Carrollton; one sister, Virginia Lee Tucker of Comfort; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Elvis Lee
CLYDE -- Elvis T. Lee, 82, died Saturday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Cross Plains Cemetery with Bob Pipes officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mr. Lee was born in Cross Plains, where he grew up, and lived in Oplin and Putnam before moving to Clyde. He worked for Dr Pepper and R.C. Bottling companies and later was a ranch and farm hand. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include four sisters, Katherine Bodine of Clyde, Lucy Poindexter of New Mexico, Ruth Thorton of Baird and Freeda Van Zandt of Lebanon, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mae O'Donnell
MERKEL -- Mae O'Donnell, 89, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. O'Donnell was born in Blair in Taylor County and worked at the Windsor Hotel in Abilene. She also was a nurse's aide at Starr Nursing Home and a homemaker. She was a Baptist and was the widow of John Andrew O'Donnell, whom she married in 1935 in San Antonio.
Survivors include two sons, John A. O'Donnell of Merkel and Hugh R. O'Donnell of Aberdeen, Wash.; and two grandchildren.
