Jane 'Lou' Ruth Banta
COLEMAN -- Jane "Lou" Ruth Banta, 81, lifelong Coleman County resident, died Friday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cleveland Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Haynes officiating, directed by Walker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Banta was born in Trickham and was a homemaker. She was a member of North Coleman Baptist Church and was the widow of D.J. "Red" Banta, whom she married in 1935 in Santa Anna.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosa Lou Bates of Andrews and Janie Lou Banta of Coleman; five sisters; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602; or Holiday Hill Nursing Home, Glen Cove Route, Coleman 76834.

Hope Patterson
MERKEL -- Hope Patterson, 75, died Friday at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Merkel First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Telephone, Texas, and worked as a Watkins saleslady for 29 years. She also was a seamstress and a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Joe Patterson, whom she married in 1947 in Merkel.
Survivors include two daughters, Mamie Shouse of Dallas and Katherine Walla of Merkel; two sisters, Lodell Davis of California and Mary Spann of Bonham; and six grandchildren.

Dorothy Dean Parker Hatcher
GORMAN -- Dorothy Dean Parker Hatcher, 77, died Saturday in a Whitesboro nursing home.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Gorman-Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Hatcher was born in Gorman and was a homemaker. She returned to Gorman in 1952. She was a director of the Gorman Housing Authority for several years and was a member of Woman's Study Club. She also was treasurer for 37 years at First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Lt. Col. Ormonde Dale Hatcher.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Brown of Whitesboro; and two grandchildren.

Retired Lt. Col. Robert Biggs
MERKEL -- Retired Lt. Col. Robert Biggs, 74, died Friday in an Anson hospital.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mr. Biggs was born in Whitney and graduated from Odessa High School. He attended Texas Tech University and married Betty Doherty in 1945 in Odessa. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served in World War II, Korean conflict and Vietnam War. He flew 61 missions during World War II and accumulated nearly 10,000 hours in the air. He received a Commendation Medal, Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with nine clusters and retired from the military in 1970. He farmed and ranched in Seminole until moving to Merkel in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, of Merkel; two sons, Bob Biggs of Merkel and Joe Biggs of Dallas; one brother, Dan Biggs of Kilgore; one sister, Nita Biggs of Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Danny Rivera
COLORADO CITY -- Danny Rivera, 34, of San Angelo and formerly of Colorado City, died Friday at his home.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.
Mr. Rivera was born in Loraine and worked as a foreman for Colorado City Bridge Co. He married Maria Escobedo in 1996 in San Angelo and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in San Angelo.
Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; four children, D.J. Rivera and Jacob Rivera, both of Colorado City, and Dominique Rivera and Sierra Rivera, both of Houston; three stepchildren, Claudia Bara, Fernando Bara and John Edward Robles, all of San Angelo; his parents, Cosme Juan and Perfecta Herrera Rivera Sr. of Colorado City; two sisters, Beatrice Madrid of Loraine and Irene Diaz of Austin; and four brothers, Eddie Rivera of Weatherford, Armando Rivera of Austin, Albert Rivera of San Angelo and Ray Rivera of Lewisville.

Miranda Hope Silvas
HASKELL -- Miranda Hope Silvas, infant daughter of Stephanie Green and Chris Silvas of Haskell, died Saturday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Willow Cemetery with Dr. Troy Culpepper officiating, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Other survivors include two brothers, T.J. Trevino and Dakota Silvas, both of Haskell; her grandparents, Mary and Lee Silvas, and Christyne Green, all of Haskell, and Donnie Green of Paint Creek; and two uncles and two aunts.

Nellie Housh
CISCO -- Nellie Housh, 95, of Cedar Creek and formerly of Cisco, died Friday in an Austin hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Housh was born in Clark County, Iowa, and graduated from college in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She owned and operated the Cookshack Restaurant in Cisco for many years. She also was an agent for Greyhound Bus Lines and a motel owner and operator in Cisco. She was a member of Chapter 461, Order of the Eastern Star, in Cisco for 73 years, The Women's Society of Christian Service and Cisco First United Methodist Church. She was the widow of Clarence Holman "Bob" Housh, whom she married in 1927 in Murray, Iowa.
Survivors include one daughter, Peggy Collier of Cedar Creek; two sisters, Helen Spellerberg of Osceola, Iowa, and Mary Kirby of Perry, Iowa; one brother, Aubrey Simmerman of Truro, Iowa; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Jose Jesse Longoria
STAMFORD -- Jose Jesse Longoria, 71, died Friday in an Abilene hospital. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Melcher officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Longoria was born in Floresville and married Beatrice Lopez in 1949 in Lubbock. He was a laborer and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Stamford; four sons, Joe Longoria Jr. of Stamford, Robert Longoria of Water Valley, Fred Longoria of Hodges and Frank Martinez of Selina, Kan.; two daughters, Janie Alvarez of Fort Worth and Ester Gonzales of Ontario, Ore.; one brother, Fidel Longoria of Sinton; three sisters, Maria Tejirena of Driskill, Carmen Carvajaral of Rockport and Ester Longoria of Sinton; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Louis Griffin Speer
RHINELAND -- Louis Griffin Speer, 71, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Mass will be said at 3 p.m. today in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with the Revs. Jeremy Myers and Kevin Fagan officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday.
Mr. Speer was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked as a police officer in Dallas. He married Madeline Wilde in 1973 in Dallas. He moved to Munday in 1980 from Dallas and was employed by the Knox County Sheriff's Office for six years. He was a member of Munday Lions Club and St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Rhineland; and two daughters, Linda Speer and Glenda Speer, both of Corpus Christi.

Zelma Leila Lanham
Zelma Leila Lanham, 86, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. H.B. Terry and Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Lanham was born in Banner, Miss., and graduated from Denton High School and North Texas State University with a teacher's certificate. She also attended Simmons College (now Hardin-Simmons University) and McMurry University. She taught elementary school at Elmdale, Colony Hill and Pleasant Hill for eight years and one year in Bakersfield, Calif. She moved to Abilene from Escondido, Calif., in 1979. She married James Burton Lanham in 1934 in Abilene; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two nieces and two nephews.
