Bessie Ruark
Bessie (Mrs. Lem) Ruark, 93, of Fort Phantom, died Tuesday in Abilene.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Ronnie Newton officiating. Burial will be in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Ruark was born in Hawley and was a lifelong Jones County resident. She attended school in Hawley and married Lemey Ruark in 1924 in Abilene. She was a homemaker and was a member of Hawley First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Fort Phantom; one daughter, Laverne Williams of Abilene; one brother, Wayne Carter of Hawley; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Curtis Hisey
Curtis H. Hisey died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Hisey was born in Haskell and grew up in Spur. He lived in Abilene for many years and served with the 36th Division in Europe during World War II. He married Lee Robinson in 1951 in Abilene. He worked as a driller for Hack Drilling for several years and was employed by Batjer and Associates for 15 years. He had been a self-employed plumber since 1987 and was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one daughter, Lisa Love of Abilene; two sons, Randy Hisey of San Angelo and Keith Hisey of Fort Worth; one brother, R.V. Hisey of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Helen Liston and Mildred Brown, both of Lubbock; and eight grandchildren.
The family will be at 825 Briarwood.

Aubrey Quillin 'A.Q.' Echols
A.Q. Echols, 95, supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service in Abilene for 35 years until retiring in 1957, died Monday at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in University Church of Christ with Drs. Eddie Sharp, Henry Speck and Roy Willingham officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Oakland Cemetery in Comanche County, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Echols was born in Comanche County, where he attended school, and attended Abilene Christian College. He graduated from Draughon's Business College in Abilene in 1921. He married Elsie Files in 1925 in Gorman. He was a deacon at University Church of Christ for seven years and an elder for 30 years.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three daughters, Marjorie Coffman of Oklahoma City, and Elizabeth Bradford and Virginia Schmittou, both of Abilene; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Christian Service Center, 901 Mesquite, Abilene 79601; or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the lobby of Christian Village of Abilene.

E.M. 'Perk' Perkins
E.M. "Perk" Perkins, Abilene civic leader, died Wednesday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Elmwood Memorial Park with Dr. Phil Christopher officiating. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. in Abilene First Baptist Church Chapel, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mr. Perkins was born in Dallas and attended school in Highland Park. He started a 37-year career in the banking industry in 1934 at Continental National Bank in Fort Worth. He graduated from the University of Texas in 1936. He was manager of the collection department at Continental in Fort Worth before moving in 1939 to Lubbock, where he became manager of the Federal Housing Administration and personal loan department at Lubbock National Bank. He was named assistant cashier in 1941 at Citizens National Bank in Crosbyton and served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He returned to Continental in Fort Worth before moving to Sweetwater, where he helped organize and was vice president of National Bank of Sweetwater. He moved to Abilene in 1954 and was vice president of Farmers & Merchants National Bank, which later became First National Bank. He was named executive vice president in 1956 and held the title until retiring in 1971. He was elected executive vice president in 1973 of First Abilene Bankshares Inc.
He was a former chairman of the United Fund, a trustee of Hendrick Memorial Hospital, and was a director of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, Abilene Council on Alcoholism, Boy Scouts and YMCA. He also was a member of the Hardin-Simmons University Board of Development. He served on the budget committee at First Baptist Church and was the widow of Jean Ware Perkins, whom he married in 1940.
Survivors include one son, Ron Perkins of Abilene.

Dorothy Cain
LAWN -- Dorothy Cain, 73, of Saginaw and formerly of Lawn, died Monday at her daughter's home in Saginaw.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Lawn Baptist Church with Jodie Boren officiating. Burial will be in Dewey Cemetery, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.
Mrs. Cain was born in Cisco and attended school in Colorado City. She lived in Hobbs, N.M. before returning to Colorado City. She lived in Loraine and Abilene before moving to Lawn in 1980. She worked as a waitress at a truck stop in Colorado City, Henderson's Cafe in Loraine, and, for 13 years, Taylor's Cafe in Lawn. She was a member of Loraine Church of Christ and was the widow of W.D. "Boad" Cain, whom she married in 1943 in Colorado City.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia "Jenny" Thigpen of Saginaw and Kathy Pugh of Abilene; one son, Danny Cain of Anna; two sisters, Johnnie Mitchell of Hobbs, N.M., and Jessie Kennemur of Lawn; one brother, Edgar Hazelwood of Hobbs, N.M.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Alene Bearden
COLORADO CITY -- Alene Bearden, 73, died Tuesday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Northcutt officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.
Mrs. Bearden was born in Sweetwater and was a homemaker. She moved to Colorado City in 1957 and was the widow of Melvin Bearden, whom she married in 1940 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include five daughters, Susie Wilkinson of Abilene, Valerie Redwine and Sharon Bearden, both of Colorado City, Rhonda Lelek of Snyder and Liz Rodriguez of Monahans; one son, David Bearden of Waggoner, Okla.; four sisters, Johnnie Lee Keuker of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Bessie Helen Prescott and Dorothy Forbes, both of Colorado City, and Carol Hutto of Pflugerville; two brothers, Don Forbes and Ferron Forbes, both of Colorado City; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Lois Stribling Anderson
BROWNWOOD -- Lois Stribling Anderson died Tuesday in Brownwood.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Norbert Peil officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Llano and graduated from Baylor Academy in Belton and the University of Texas. She moved to Brownwood in 1940 and worked in the ranching and investments industries for many years. She was a charter member and director of the Southern Savings & Loan Association and also was a charter member of the Brownwood Country Club. She was a member of Phi Mu sorority, Knife & Fork Club and Junior 20th Century Club. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Frank Sims Anderson, whom she married in 1928 in Austin.
Survivors include two sisters, Ona Beams of Dallas and Lugenia Donop of Llano; one brother, John Wilson Stribling of New Jersey; four nephews; and two great-nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Leland Floyd
MUNDAY -- Leland Floyd, 76, lifelong Knox County resident, died Wednesday in a Knox City hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Munday First Baptist Church with James Smith and the Revs. W.O. Smith and John Hall officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Floyd was born in Knox County and married Doris Henslee in 1939 in Haskell. He served with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Nassau and was a farmer. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church since 1961.
Survivors include his wife, of Munday; one daughter, Carol Paylor of Killeen; one sister, Clara Lawrence of Seymour; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to Knox County Aging Service in Knox City or Munday.

Elvin 'Cotton' Stice
Elvin "Cotton" Stice, 78, of Nugent, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery with Ken Pearson officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mr. Stice was born in Kendrick, Okla., and married Ruth L. Clary in 1939 in Oklahoma. He moved to the Abilene area in 1952. He worked as a plumber for 42 years and formerly owned Cotton Stice Plumbing, which later became Key City Plumbing.
Survivors include his wife, of Nugent; one son, Lawrence Stice of Abilene; three daughters, Connie Morris, Sue Stice and Linda Stice, all of Abilene; one brother, Glen Stice of Slick, Okla.; one sister, June Sutherland of Midland; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
