Archola Coats
LUBBOCK -- Archola Coats, 85, formerly of Baird, died Monday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales, N.M. with Frank Poynor officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Ross Cemetery in Baird.
Mrs. Coats was born in Star and moved to Portales, N.M. in 1943 from Baird. She moved away from Portales, N.M. in 1949 and returned in 1955. She worked in the cafeteria at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales from 1968-78. She moved in 1994 to Plainview and later to Lubbock. She was the widow of O.L. Coats, whom she married in 1931 in Baird.
Survivors include two sons, J.L. Coats of Plainview and Wink Coats of Shallowater; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Virginia Thomas
RANGER -- Virginia Thomas, 79, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Mexia and grew up in Ennis. She married Chester Thomas in 1932 in Archer. She worked at Cates Grocery in Snyder before moving to Ranger in 1977. She was employed by Ranger General Hospital until retiring and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Charlie Thomas of Snyder and Jim Thomas of Hermleigh; three daughters, Pauline Neville of Ranger, Polly Neville of Plano and Margaret Bradley of Amarillo; two sisters, Julie Morris of Dallas and Alice Kelly of Fort Worth; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Loretta Faye 'Mutt' Weaver
TEMPLE -- Loretta Faye "Mutt" Weaver, 77, formerly of Ranger, died Tuesday at her daughter's home in Belton.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Dossman Funeral Home Chapel in Belton with the Revs. Fred Winslow and Sara Collins officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Ranger with the Rev. Eric Seay officiating.
Mrs. Weaver was born in Colony and graduated from Ranger High School. She married Thomas C. Weaver in 1938 in Ranger and worked as a dental technician for Dr. Paul Riffle. She was later employed by Ranger Junior College. She moved to Temple in 1992 from Ranger and was a member of Belton First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Temple; two daughters, Carolyn Seay of Midland and Brenda Severn of Belton; two brothers, Billy G. Thompson of Ranger and Raymond E. Thompson of Watts, Okla.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church.

Carl Eric Swenson
STAMFORD -- Carl Swenson, 80, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Bethel Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Revs. Kent Wallace and Stan Leaf officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.
Mr. Swenson was born in Jones County and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Beverly Davey in 1945 in Arlington, Va., and was co-manager and co-vice president of Swenson Land and Cattle Co. until retiring. He was a two-term Stamford city councilman and was a member and past president of the Stamford Country Club. He was on the church council at Bethel Lutheran Church for two terms.
Survivors include his wife, of Stamford; two daughters, Carla Gentry of El Paso and Christy Kreger of Frisco; two brothers, John Eric Swenson Jr. of Spur and John William Swenson of Stamford; one sister, Selma Taylor of Balmorhea; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Woodrow Wilson Meglasson
BRECKENRIDGE -- Woodrow Wilson Meglasson, 76, owner of Wilson Pest Control since 1988, died Tuesday at his home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cisco Cemetery.
Mr. Meglasson was born in Walnut Springs and was a World War II veteran. He was a former grocer and police commissioner in Cisco.
Survivors include one son, Craig Meglasson of San Antonio; one daughter, Cherie Loughridge of Sugarland; three brothers, Tom Meglasson of Mission, Bill Meglasson of Clifton and George Meglasson of Houston; two sisters, Viola Tomlinson of Coleman and Catherine Clark of Willow Park; and two grandchildren.

James Avants
COLEMAN -- James Avants, 73, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Whon Cemetery.
Mr. Avants was born in San Saba County and moved to Coleman County as an infant. He attended Santa Anna High School and worked in the 3-M Company packaging department until retiring. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Non-Commissioned Officers Association and Central Baptist Church and was the widower of Helen Elizabeth McKinney Rider Avants.
Survivors include one son, James Aaron Avants of Berkley, Calif.; his mother, Pearl Avants of Coleman; and one brother, Douglas Avants of Brady.
Memorials may be sent to American Lung Association or American Heart Association.

Jimmie Joe Hester
ROCHESTER -- Jimmie Joe Hester, 64, died Monday in Fort Worth.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Rochester Cemetery with the Rev. James Patterson officiating, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Hester was born in Rochester and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include three sisters, Peggy Cline of White Oak, Ann Stephens of Casa Grande, Ariz., and Geneva Ball of Jal, N.M.

Lelia Pearl Boiles
Lelia Pearl Boiles, 84, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Potosi Cemetery with the Rev. Rufus Wilson officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Boiles was born in Springtown and attended school in New Hope. She lived in Abilene most of her life. She worked as a nurse's aide at Hendrick Medical Center for eight years and Shady Oaks Nursing Home for 15 years. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Henry Boiles, whom she married in 1936 in Abilene.
Survivors include one son, Doyle Boiles of Snyder; two daughters, Loretta Wright of Longview and Delores Boiles of Abilene; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three nephews and one niece.

Rosi Dinamita Verastegui
Rosi Dinamita Verastegui, two-day-old infant daughter of Alfredo and Rosi Verastegui, died Wednesday in a Fort Worth hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. David Matz officiating, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Rosi was born in Abilene.
Other survivors include her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Enrique Perez of Bear Creek, Wisc.; and several aunts and uncles.
