Dan Plowman
BIG SPRING -- Dan Plowman, 52, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in View Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Drummond Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, of Abilene. Local arrangements were made by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Mr. Plowman was born in Abilene and graduated from Big Spring High School in 1965. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and married Nancy Hardesty in 1967 in Big Spring. He worked in the oil industry as a directional drilling supervisor in the Rocky Mountains, West Texas and Middle East. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Big Spring; one daughter, Kelli Andrews of Midland; one son, Cody Plowman of Big Spring; his mother, Wanda Plowman of Abilene; one brother, Bobby Plowman of Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Janis McDowell of Sweetwater and Susan Wilson of Big Spring; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Youth Fund, 705 W. Marcy, Big Spring 79720.
The body will be at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home today.

Barbara Louisa Churchill Cooper
AZLE -- Barbara Louisa Churchill Cooper, 81, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Cooper was a retired retail store department manager and was the widow of Robert J. Cooper.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Johnson of Azle; one sister, Lucille Colbert of Hot Springs; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three nieces.

Charlie Sam Freeman
CLYDE -- Charlie Sam Freeman, 68, died Wednesday at his home.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Highway 36 Church of Christ with Ed Headrick and Ralph Beistle officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Freeman was born in Erath County near Stephenville and graduated from Clyde High School in 1948. He married Betty Cook in 1951 in Clyde and was a Korean War veteran. He was a maintenance worker at the Mexia State School until retiring. He lived in Midland and Mexia before returning to Clyde in 1993 and was a member of Highway 36 Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Clyde; two sons, Billy Charles Freeman of Corpus Christi and Johnny Michael Freeman of Porter; three daughters, Kitty Faye Beistle and Cindy Sue Brown, both of Abilene, and Christy Elaine Ford of Burleson; his father, John Smith Freeman of Clyde; one brother, Billie Freeman of Clyde; two sisters, Mary Loy Hudnall of Odessa and Johnnie Irene Hammett of San Saba; and 14 grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Paul Carter
THROCKMORTON -- Paul Carter, 72, employed by the Texas Highway Department, now the Texas Department of Transportation, from 1968 until retiring in 1987, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Merriman-Archer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cliff Lester officiating. Burial will be in Throckmorton Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born in Mabank and managed Pioneer Oil Co. for six years. He moved to Throckmorton in 1967 from Lorenzo. He was a Baptist and was the widower of Ruby Jo Northam Carter, whom he married in 1953 in Haskell.
Survivors include one daughter, Johnna Carter of Breckenridge; three sons, Dewayne Carter of Throckmorton, and Ricky Carter and Bobby Wilkins, both of Abilene; one sister, Ruth Gammill of Weatherford; one brother, Alvin Carter of Weatherford; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bertha Mae White
RISING STAR -- Bertha Mae White, 88, died Tuesday in a Brownwood hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Dick Williams officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene.
Mrs. White was born in Amity in Comanche County and was a homemaker. She lived in Abilene and Brownwood before moving to Rising Star in 1972. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Saturday Club in Rising Star, Schubert Music Club in Brownwood and First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Horace Edward White, whom she married in 1929 in May.
Survivors include three sons, H.E. White and William A. White, both of Austin, and Robert W. White of Dallas; one brother, John M. Robertson of Comanche; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Allene Burleson Carnohan
PLAINS -- Allene Burleson Carnohan, 80, formerly of the Abilene area, died Tuesday at her son's home in Lubbock.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Plains First Baptist Church with the Revs. Glenn Harlan and Bill Wright officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Tuscola Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Reid officiating, directed by Rix Funeral Directors of Lubbock.
Mrs. Carnohan was born in Taylor County near Tuscola and graduated from Tuscola High School. She worked for West Texas Utilities in Roby and was the widow of F.J. Smith, whom she married in 1938 in Aspermont. She lived in Tuscola and worked for Western Cotton Oil Co. in Abilene. She married Willis L. Carnohan in 1948 in Electra. She moved to Tye in 1948 and Plains in 1960. She was assistant vice president of Plains State Bank for 27 years until retiring in 1988. She was a member of the Fine Arts Club and Samma Ga Club and was treasurer of the Ruth Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Jeff Smith of Lubbock; one daughter, Bette Scroggins of Abilene; one stepdaughter, B.J. Julson of Pleasanton, Calif.; one sister, Asenith Pruitt of Baird; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Donna Clark
CISCO -- Donna M. Clark, 67, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Clark was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from East Moline High School in East Moline, Ill. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Harold Clark.
Survivors include one sister, Ruth Miller of Anaheim, Calif.; one brother, C. Edward Nelson of Aurora, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

James Robert Gilkey Jr.
EASTLAND -- James Robert Gilkey Jr., 82, of Waco and formerly of Eastland, died Wednesday in a Waco nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Eastland City Cemetery with the Rev. Kyle Glenn officiating, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mr. Gilkey was born in Eastland and worked as an accountant for Texas Utilities for 40 years until retiring in 1977. He was a Methodist and was the widower of Maynel Gilkey.
Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Sanders of Hewitt; one brother, William Gilkey of Eastland; one sister, Lossie Poole of Eastland; and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mack Sampson
COLEMAN -- Mack E. Sampson, local civic leader, died Wednesday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Newton officiating. Burial will be in Brown Ranch Cemetery in Coleman County, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Mr. Sampson was born in Fisk and was a lifelong Coleman County resident. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps' 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper during World War II. He married Nelda Knight in 1958 in Fredonia, Ariz. He started a 38-year banking career in 1946 at First Coleman National Bank. He moved to Coleman County State Bank in 1947 and was chief executive officer, president and director for many years until retiring in 1984. He then became a broker and co-owner of Coleman County Land Co. He also was a rancher. He was president of the Coleman County Chamber of Commerce, Coleman Lions Club, United Fund and Jaycees, and was treasurer of the Coleman Development Corp. and West Texas Chapter of the Bank Administration Institute. He was an elder and trustee at First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Coleman; one sister, Georgia Lynn Dalton of Gouldbusk; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602; or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman.
