Thelma McCargo Barnes
CLYDE -- Thelma McCargo Barnes, 95, of Conroe and formerly of Clyde, died Monday in a Conroe nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Clyde First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Lloyd Huff and the Rev. Riley Fugitt officiating. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Barnes was born in Anson and graduated from Anson High School, Sul Ross University in Alpine and Highland University in Las Vegas, N.M. She taught school in Anson, Grandfalls and Andrews before retiring and moved to Abilene in 1990 from Clyde, and to Conroe in 1991. She was a life member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a former member of Texas State Teachers Association. She was a member of Clyde First Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir for more than 20 years, and was the widow of William Turner Barnes, whom she married in 1926 in Anson.
Survivors include one son, William McCargo Barnes of Conroe; one sister, Willie M. Wootres of Albuquerque, N.M.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Jim Talbot
SNYDER -- Jim L. Talbot, 60, of Sanderson, whose wife is formerly of Snyder, died Monday in a San Angelo hospital from injuries received Saturday in a fall at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Snyder Cemetery with Tom Holcomb officiating, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sanderson.
Mr. Talbot was born in Sanderson and graduated from Sanderson High School in 1955 and Sul Ross State University in Alpine in 1959. He attended graduate school at Texas Tech University. He served in the Texas National Guard and married Margaret Miller in 1963 in Snyder. He started a banking career at Citizens National Bank in Abilene and also was employed by banks in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. He became president, chairman and chief executive officer of Sanderson State Bank in 1979 and held those positions at the time of his death. He was a partner in Southwest Bancorp Inc., which owned Sanderson State Bank, and was a director of Citizens State Bank in Cross Plains, Sanderson State Bank and Independent Bankers of Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Sanderson; one son, Miller Talbot of Van; one daughter, Amy McAlister of San Antonio; his mother, Lillian Talbot of Sanderson; two brothers, Jack Talbot of San Antonio and William D. "Budgy" Talbot of Mayesville, Ark.; and two grandchildren.

Elbert Cobern
BROWNWOOD -- Elbert E. Cobern, 87, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Roger Hammonds officiating. Burial will be in Cox Cemetery.
Mr. Cobern was born at Indian Creek and attended school at Indian Creek and Brownwood. He worked as a carpenter and contractor for many years and moved to Brownwood in 1965 from Brady. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Cobern of Brownwood; one son, Corky Cobern of Hurst; three daughters, Shirley Sansing of Coleman, Julia Smith of Abilene and Anne Jones of Odessa; two stepsons, Arvil Kinsey of Sterling City and Ricky Kinsey of Brownwood; one sister, Ruby Gage of San Saba; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Tommy 'Joe' Roach
ALBANY -- Tommy "Joe" Roach, 54, of Yoakum and formerly of Albany, died Sunday in a Yoakum hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Albany First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Tunnell officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mr. Roach was born in Stamford and worked for Pool Well Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Joseph G. Roach of Albany; four daughters, Candice L. Welborn of Lawton, Okla., Penny Mitchell of Grand Prairie, and Amber Roach and Brandy Palmer, both of Breckenridge; his parents, Carline Craver of Breckenridge, Tommy Roach of Fort Worth and A.D. Alexander of Albany; six sisters, Faith Morgan, Mary Rogers and Mozelle Wilson, all of Albany, Carolyn Partin of Graham, and Naomi Mitchell and Amelia Cougar, both of Breckenridge; and one brother, Cornelius Alexander of Albany.

Charles Ellis Minear
BROWNWOOD -- Charles Ellis Minear, 95, died Monday in Brownwood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Minear was born in Glenwood, Mo., and worked as a cook for cattle drives in Colorado. He also delivered supplies to mining camps for Jewel Tea Co., which later became A&P Grocery. He was employed by Drane Tank Co. in Odessa before moving to Brownwood in 1942 from the San Saba area. He raised turkeys and was an inspector for Anderson-Clayton Co. He later operated a soup kitchen in Brownwood. He was a 55-year Mason and was a member of Masonic Lodge 279 and Central Methodist Church. He was the widower of LaVere Dillion Minear, whom he married in 1926 in Walsenberg, Colo.
Survivors include one son, Dr. John Wesley Minear of Houston; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.

Rudolph 'Skinnie' Lewis
DESDEMONA -- Rudolph G. "Skinnie" Lewis, 85, died Monday in a Gorman nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in Desdemona First Baptist Church with Jerry Speer officiating. Burial will be in Desdemona Cemetery, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home of De Leon.
Mr. Lewis was born in Erath County and was a lifelong resident of Erath and Eastland counties. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widower of Helen Eloise Pool Lewis, whom he married in 1935 in Desdemona.
Survivors include one son, Philip Stan Lewis of Desdemona; two daughters, Karen Lewis Burleson of Desdemona and Vickie Lynn Harris of Stephenville; one brother, Bill Lewis of Cross Plains; one sister, Alpha Thiebaud of Desdemona; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Norman Henry Sikes
BRECKENRIDGE -- Norman Henry Sikes, 85, died Monday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hart Cemetery with Jim Cox officiating, directed by Morehart Mortuary.
Mr. Sikes was born in Quitman, Miss., and grew up in Lorenzo. He was a farmer and rancher and moved to Breckenridge in 1964. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widower of Weda Lillian Hines Sikes, whom he married in 1935 in Anson.
Survivors include two sisters, Bessie Hunt of Breckenridge and Bertha Sherbert of Oklahoma City; one brother, C.H. Sikes of Yuma, Ariz.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Elbert Joe Graves
BIG SPRING -- Elbert Joe Graves, 68, formerly of Ballinger, died Monday in a local retirement center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ballinger with the Rev. Tony King officiating, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home of Ballinger.
Mr. Graves was born in Runnels County and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in the oil field for G.L. Tool Co. for many years. He was a member and former deacon of Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger and was the widower of Betty Jo Mayhew Graves, whom he married in 1954 in Sonora.
Survivors include one son, Joey Graves of Seattle; one daughter, Judy Lynn Smith of Ballinger; two brothers, Rufus Graves of Euless and W.C. Graves of Snyder; one sister, Mary Lou Alexander of Big Spring; and five grandchildren.

T.C. Watson
BIGELOW, Ark. -- T.C. Watson, 16, son of two former Abilene residents, died Tuesday after an illness.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bigelow Baptist Church with the Rev. James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Volman Cemetery, directed by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton, Ark.
T.C. was born in Fort Mommoth, N.J., and was a member of Bigelow Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Reece and Sharon Watson of Bigelow and formerly of Abilene; three brothers, Reece Watson III of Vilonia, Ark., Danjel P. Watson of Midland and Bobby Watson of Bigelow; one sister, Anna Cross of Bigelow; his paternal grandmother, Anne L. Watson of Bigelow; and his maternal grandparents, Dr. M.H. and Pauline Clark of San Angelo.
