Donald Saunders
COLEMAN -- Donald M. Saunders, 78, lifelong local resident, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reed Justus officiating. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery.
Mr. Saunders was born in Coleman, where he graduated from high school in 1937, and married Margaret Weatherred in 1945 in Coleman. He was a stockfarmer and was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Coleman; one son, Tommy Saunders of Coleman; one sister, Doris Elaine Saunders of Fort Stockton; one brother, Oplin Saunders of Coleman; one aunt; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Gearld Wayne Ables
EASTLAND -- Gearld Wayne Ables, 65, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery.
Mr. Ables was born in Carbon and attended Eastland High School. He started working at age 15 in the family business, Ables and Son Bit Co., which he later owned and operated until retiring in 1996. He married Shirley Ann Branton in 1952 in Eastland and played semi-professional baseball. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was a member of Carbon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Eastland; one son, Jerry Wayne Ables of Tennessee Colony; one daughter, Deborah Ann Cox of Eastland; two brothers, J.D. Ables of Silsbee and R.D. Ables of Elk City, Okla.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lloyd Tyree
Lloyd Tyree, 73, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Robert Bush officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Tilden, Neb.
Mr. Tyree was born in Wilmer and graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School. He married Kathleen Kielty in 1962 in Alamogordo, N.M., and moved to Abilene in 1980 from Houston. He was a retired branch accountant of Borden Dairy Inc. and was a Protestant.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two daughters, Elizabeth Tyree of Seattle and Lou Mays of Midland; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Nora Thomas
Nora W. Thomas, 90, named Foster Grandparent of the Year in 1987 at the Abilene State School, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. David Cason officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Ms. Thomas was born in Elk City, Okla., and attended school in Tonkawa, Okla. She moved to Abilene in 1949 from Colorado City and worked as a unit leader in sales for Stanley Home Products for 17 years until retiring. She was active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and was a member of Royal Neighbors of America, Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary, American Association of Retired Persons and University Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Richard W. Thomas of Kermit; one sister, Helen N. Hall of Shawnee, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Ronald Bayer
Ronald A. Bayer, 63, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Dyess Air Force Base Chapel with Chaplain Steve Borlang officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Bayer was born in Cook County, Ill., and married Dorthea Thompson in 1957 in Indiana. He worked in electronics while in the U.S. Air Force for 26 years. He moved to Abilene in 1980 from Columbus, Ohio., and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6873. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, D. Scott Bayer of Plano and Robert Bayer of Abilene; one daughter, Deborah Stone of Kennelworth, Ill.; one brother, Kenneth Kolasinski of Hollister, Mo.; one sister, Clara Bearden of Branson, Mo.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Lillian Thomas Steffey
CISCO -- Lillian Thomas Steffey, 86, of Flower Mound and formerly of Cisco, died Thursday in a Flower Mound nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Turner officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Steffey was born in Atwell in Callahan County and was a homemaker. She was an Episcopalian and was the widow of L.D. Steffey, whom she married in 1932 in Albany.
Survivors include one sister, Katherine Hinds of Baird; one granddaughter, Miriam Pugh of Lewisville; and two great-grandchildren.

Lillie Branscum
HAMLIN -- Lillie I. Branscum, 90, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hamlin First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tracy Watson officiating. Burial will be in Hamlin East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
Mrs. Branscum was born in Sterling City and moved as a child to Hamlin, where she graduated from high school. She worked as a waitress and a caregiver for the homebound. She also was a nursing home volunteer. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Sol Branscum, whom she married in 1923 in Roby.
Survivors include one son, Ed Branscum of Hamlin; one sister, Laverne Witt of Hamlin; five grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Verra Venna Newcomb
CARBON -- Verra Venna Newcomb, 85, died Wednesday in a Haltom City nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Flatwood Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mrs. Newcomb was born in San Augustine and was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of William Haskell "Bill" Newcomb, whom she married in 1952 in Hobbs, N.M.
Survivors include two daughters, Marie Jane Sennikoff of De Soto and Verra Diane Guess of Haltom City; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Thyra Wallace
BALLINGER -- Thyra Wallace, 57, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Seventh Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony King officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wallace was born in Mountain Air, N.M., and married Vernon Wallace in Ballinger. She worked as an adult caregiver and was a member of Seventh Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Ballinger; three sons, Douglas Wallace of Ballinger, Randell Wallace of San Angelo and Michael Wallace of Odessa; one daughter, Michelle Rasmusson of Cleburne; her mother, Etta Walker of Ballinger; three brothers, Phil Meadows of Winslow, Ariz., John Meadows of Ballinger and Jimmy Meadows of Gallup, N.M.; four sisters, Bernice Haygood of Satilla, Phyllis McCoy of Flora Vista, N.M., Virginia Holley of Gallup, N.M., and Margaret Kirk of Ballinger; and six grandchildren.
