Eldon Smith
Eldon F. Smith, 75, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Central Presbyterian Church with Dr. Clifford S. Stewart officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Smith was born in Stratton and graduated from Yoakum High School and the University of Texas. He moved to Abilene from Lubbock in 1971 and was self-employed in heavy duty truck sales. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of First Central Presbyterian Church. He married Dorris J. Christian in 1956 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, John Christian Smith and Terry Clinton Smith, both of Dallas; one daughter, Sandra Smith Meng of Snellville, Ga.; one brother, Rev. Elliott M. Smith of California; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604; or to the donor's favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. today.

Norma Modes Watson Varnell
Norma Modes Watson Varnell, 85, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Potosi Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Varnell was born in Sulgent, Ala., and attended school in Rising Star. She moved to Abilene from Rising Star in 1932 and worked for Clark's Discount Store for four years. She was a member of Lawn Primitive Baptist Church, A.A.R.P. and Rose Park Senior Citizens. She married J.T. Varnell in 1932 in Potosi; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Varnell and Howard Gene Varnell, both of Abilene; one sister, Daphne Mozelle Densman of Abilene; two grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Gerald Claude Derrick
MERKEL -- Gerald Claude Derrick, 84, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mr. Derrick was born in Noodle and graduated from Merkel High School in 1933. He competed in rodeos from 1934-1947 and broke horses from 1940-1945. He was a farmer and a rancher. He married Marie Stanford in 1955 in Roby.
Survivors include his wife, of Merkel; one son, Jimmy Leverich of Merkel; one brother, Rodgers Derrick of Plano; one sister, Ora Sue Tubbs of Abilene; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Morene Riddle Forgey
BALLINGER -- Morene Riddle Forgey, 91, died Monday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Old Runnels Cemetery with Norvel Meredith officiating, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Forgey was born in Runnels County, where she lived all her life. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three sisters, Georgia Mae Vanlandingham of Victoria, Tommie Benson of San Angelo and Ruthie Lee Cooke of Abilene; and several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Bob 'Bobbye' Anderson
STAMFORD -- Dorothy Bob "Bobbye" Anderson, 82, died Friday at a local hospital.
Services were Sunday at Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial was in Spur Cemetery in Spur.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Hico and moved to Stamford in 1921. She was an X-ray technician for Stamford Memorial Hospital and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She married J.L. "Andy" Anderson in 1951 in Stamford; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Reynolds of Wichita Falls; one sister, Maldnetta Christian of Arlington; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four nephews and one niece.

R. Lee Maxcey
BROWNWOOD -- R. Lee Maxcey, 82, died Sunday at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Steve McMeans officiating. Burial will be in Richland Springs Cemetery in Richland Springs, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Maxcey was born in Desdemona and lived in San Saba County before moving to Brown County five years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. She was a former member of Women's Auxiliary of Brownwood Regional Medical Center and had been involved with Good Samaritans. She married Mack Maxcey in 1935 in Goldthwaite.
Survivors include her husband, of Brownwood; two sons, Garry Maxcey of Richland Springs and Mack Maxcey Jr. of Midland; two daughters, Marjolaine Lewis of Dallas and Angela Brown of Midland; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Ruth Marie Bouldin
COLEMAN -- Ruth Marie Bouldin, 72, of Gouldbusk died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Evans officiating. Burial will be in Talpa Cemetery.
Mrs. Bouldin was born in Hale, Mo., and lived in Coleman County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Voss Baptist Church. She married Clifford Bouldin in 1945 in Liberia, Kan.
Survivors include her husband, of Gouldbusk; one daughter, Norrene Jamison of Leaday; two sons, Sonny Bouldin and Gary Bouldin, both of Fisk; one sister, Ruby Bignell of Missouri; one brother, Carl Hardin of Missouri; and seven grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.

Larry Fox
COLORADO CITY -- Larry Fox, 44, of Lubbock and a former longtime Colorado City resident, died Sunday at a Lubbock hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Foster officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.
Mr. Fox was born in Dos Palos, Calif., and was a Protestant and a retail salesperson. He married Diana Hollis in 1974 in Colorado City.
Survivors include his wife, of Lubbock; two sons, Derrick Fox of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Cecil Robert Fox of Lubbock; his parents, Cecil and Gladys Fox of Colorado City; one brother, Robert Fox of Oklahoma; three sisters, Julia Clevenger of Avoca, Linda Mason of Lubbock and Michelle Paschall of Damon; and one grandson.

Mrs. O.A. (Sook) Burnett
EARLY -- Mrs. O.A. (Sook) Burnett, 84, of May died Friday at a Brownwood hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Heartland Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in May Cemetery.
Mrs. Burnett was born in the Elm community and lived in May all her life. She and her husband owned a general store in May from 1943-1969. She was secretary-treasurer of the May Fire Department, an officer of the Housing Project and a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of Oadis Burnett.
Survivors include two daughters, Mickey Cravens of Brownwood and Glynda Largen of Kotzebue, Alaska; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Dr. H.L. Cravens Jr. Scholarship Fund at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30-8 p.m. today.
