Doyle Newcomb
SEMINOLE -- Doyle Newcomb, 87, formerly of the Albany area, died Wednesday in a local care center.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Albany First Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Clevenger officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Ratliff Funeral Home.
Mr. Newcomb was born in Fort Griffin and was a rancher. He was the widower of Hixie Sanders Newcomb.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Newcomb of Seminole and Sam Newcomb of Mineral Wells; one brother, W.F. Newcomb of Brownwood; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Louis Milton Tabor
COMANCHE -- Louis Milton Tabor, 93, died Thursday in a Robert Lee care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Scott Maze officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Tabor was born in Coleman and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church and was the widower of Lena Marie Carter Tabor.
Survivors include one sister, Zorn Phillips of Big Spring; one brother, Jim Tom Tabor of Robert Lee; and several nieces and nephews.

Irene Pearce
RICHLAND SPRINGS -- Irene Pearce, 80, died Thursday in Brownwood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Richland Springs First Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Fikes and George McHorse officiating. Burial will be in Richland Springs Cemetery, directed by Howell-Doran Funeral Home of San Saba.
Mrs. Pearce was born in Richland Springs and graduated as valedictorian from Richland Springs High School in 1935. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Howard Payne College. She taught school in Bowser and Liveoak for 45 years and also was an elementary principal in Richland Springs. She was a past president of San Saba County Retired Teachers Association and served on the San Saba County Child Welfare Board for several years. She was a 61-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 264. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and First Baptist Church, and was the widow of H.E. "Casey" Pearce, whom she married in 1944 in Casper, Wyo.
Survivors include three sons, William Casey "Bill" Pearce of Breckenridge, James Frank Pearce of The Woodlands and Raymond Clayton "Cubby" Pearce of Richland Springs; one daughter, Patty Ratliff of Levelland; two brothers, Burleson Hopkins of Dallas and Davis Hopkins of Grand Prairie; two sisters, Alice Bragg of Monahans and Ruth Cardwell of Waco; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Neal Smith
COLEMAN -- Neal Smith, 88, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Tom Green County and attended school at Anderson and Loss Creek in Coleman County. He moved to Coleman in 1920 and served with the National Guard. He was a retired plumber. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widower of Dovie Teel Smith, whom he married in 1958 in Brownwood.
Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Eugene Smith of Como, Miss., and Fred Edward Smith of Alta Loma, Calif.; one brother, Clovis Smith of Ballinger; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Ethel Launa Daniel
ROTAN -- Ethel Launa Daniel, 91, formerly of Dallas, died Thursday in a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Restland Cemetery in Dallas with the Rev. Lee Hunt officiating, directed by Restland Funeral Home. Local arrangements were made by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Daniel was born in Madisonville and was a homemaker. She moved to Rotan in 1992 from Houston. She was a member of Dallas First Baptist Church and was the widow of Roy Earl McDaniel, whom she married in Dallas.
Survivors include one son, Scotty Daniel of Rotan; one brother, Gordon McKenzie of Dallas; one half-sister, Margaret Henley of Duncanville; and four grandchildren.

Clifford 'Nick' Nicholson
HASKELL -- Clifford H. "Nick" Nicholson, 78, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Haskell First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Page officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mr. Nicholson was born in Paris, Texas, and married Lois Lackey in 1940 in Haskell. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a mechanic for Bill Wilson Motor Co. from 1947-57. He then owned and operated Nick's Upholstery in Clovis, N.M. until 1987 and in Haskell until 1998. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Haskell; two sons, Eddie Jay Nicholson of Brownfield and Greggory Clint Nicholson of Allen; four sisters, Rene Ussery of Lubbock, and Shirley Palmer, Mary Clark and Inez Seavy, all of Paris, Texas; three brothers, Marshall Nicholson, Jimmy Don Nicholson and Eugene Nicholson, all of Paris, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Walter Lane Cooper
ASPERMONT -- Walter Lane Cooper, 83, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Pinecrest Cemetery in Troup, directed by Cottle Funeral Home of Troup. Local arrangements were made by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was born in Waldo, Ark., and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired bank teller and bookkeeper. He moved to Tyler in 1980 from Odessa, and Aspermont in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Jones of Aspermont and Margaret Cooper of San Antonio; two sons, Lane Cooper of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jimm B. Cooper of Seabrook; four sisters, Eunice Moss of Pittsburg, Texas, Lena Cochran of Virginia, and Mary Freeman and Loraine Murphy, both of Hope, Ark.; one brother, James Cooper of Waldo, Ark.; and nine grandchildren.

K.D. 'Red' Poe
BAIRD -- K.D. "Red" Poe, 71, lifelong local resident, died Thursday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ross Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery.
Mr. Poe was born in Baird and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the City of Baird Water and Sewer Department. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include one brother, Bobby J. Poe of Lebanon, Ill.; and seven nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Mildred Carr
Mildred Carr, 82, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with James Stovall officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Carr was born in Frederick, Okla., and married Paul Carr 59 years ago. She was a homemaker and was a member of Westgate Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; two daughters, Sandra Simpson of Tomball and Beverly Westfall of Abilene; one sister, Bonnie Simmons of Cathedral City, Calif.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. today in the funeral home.
