Virgil Wayne Hobbs
Virgil Wayne Hobbs, 68, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with Billy Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery.
Mr. Hobbs was born in Megargel and grew up in the Olney area. He married Edna Ruth Burns in 1948 in Olney and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He moved to Abilene in 1958 from Olney and owned Wayne Hobbs & Sons Oilfield Services for 10 years. He also worked as an oilfield consultant until his death.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; four sons, David Hobbs of Fort Worth, Virgil Hobbs of Portland, Texas, Jackie Hobbs of Liberal, Kan., and Mike Hobbs of Abilene; one brother, Truman Hobbs of Plano; three sisters, Dorothy Drake and Maxine Hobbs, both of Grand Prairie, and Carol Ann Philip of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the funeral home's 242 Orange location until this morning. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. today at 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.

James Greer
James E. Greer, 81, of Tuscola, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Jodie Boren officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Mr. Greer was born in Ballinger and graduated from Abilene High School. He was a flight engineer on B-26 and B-29 bombers with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He married Gertie Snodgrass in 1942 in Amarillo. He worked in civil service as a receiving supervisor at Dyess Air Force Base from 1952 until retiring in 1982. He was a marksmanship instructor and was a life member of National Rifle Association. He also was a member of Tuscola Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Tuscola; two brothers, Cecil Greer and Leonard Greer, both of Abilene; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Jewell Evelyn Logsdon
Jewell Evelyn Logsdon, 96, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mrs. Logsdon grew up in Miles in Runnels County and moved to Abilene in 1920. She graduated from National Business College and taught school in Runnels County from 1920-22. She worked as a bookkeeper for Abilene Casket Co. for 13 years and John Ray for 25 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was the widow of George C. Logsdon, whom she married in 1922 in Abilene.
Survivors include one sister, Kay Thornton of Abilene; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Beryl Hardesty McKesson
Beryl Hardesty McKesson, 88, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a San Angelo retirement center.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. H.B. Terry Jr. officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. McKesson was born in Abilene and graduated from Slaton High School and Hardin-Simmons University. She was a homemaker and was the widow of John White. She married E.E. "Mac" McKesson in 1968 in San Antonio and was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, of San Angelo; one stepdaughter, Laurie Ann Freiderick of Springfield, Ore.; one grandchild; and two nephews.

Charles 'Charlie' Mabry Feris
FORT WORTH -- Charles "Charlie" Mabry Feris, 81, father of a former Abilene resident, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Feris was born at Goose Creek and married his wife in 1941 in Fort Worth. He started and formerly owned Feris Electric & Lighting. He was a retired electrical contractor. He was a co-founder and past president of Independent Electrical Contractors of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. He was a member of the Masonic Order's Haltom City Blue Lodge, and Moslah Temple Shrine and Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Feris of Fort Worth; three sons, Mitchell Feris and Lee Feris, both of Fort Worth, and Greg Feris of Plainview and formerly of Abilene; one brother, Clinton Feris of Fort Worth; one sister, Doris Feris of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Tina Tindall
BRECKENRIDGE -- Tina Tindall, 78, of Abilene and formerly of Stephens County, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Speer and Wayne Wright officiating. Burial will be in Necessity Cemetery.
Mrs. Tindall was born in Stephens County and attended school in Frankell and Necessity. She married James Harvey Tindall in 1936 and worked at Hart's Grocery for 20 years. She moved to Abilene in 1997. She was a member of American Association of Retired Persons and Wyndrock Baptist Church in Abilene.
Survivors include her husband, of Abilene; one daughter, Francine Tindall Gandy of Abilene; one sister, Mrs. L.C. Smith of Anson; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels in Abilene or Breckenridge and left at the funeral home.

Maltha Elizabeth Cagle Haley
MABELVALE, Ark. -- Maltha Elizabeth Cagle Haley, 81, formerly of Abilene, died Friday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Roller-Drummond Funeral Home Southwest Chapel in Little Rock, Ark. with the Revs. Paul R. Sanders and John W. Perkins officiating. Entombment will be in Riverwood Memorial Park Mausoleum in Maumelle, Ark.
Mrs. Haley was born in Abilene, where she grew up, and taught at Austin Elementary in Grand Prairie, Texas until retiring. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star in Grand Prairie and Geyer Springs First Baptist Church in Little Rock, Ark.
Survivors include her husband, Gerold G. Haley of Mabelvale; one daughter, Pat Sewell of Mabelvale; one sister, Elouise Zabloudil of Abilene; four grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

O.B. Herring
BRECKENRIDGE -- O.B. Herring, 87, of McCamey and formerly of Breckenridge, died Thursday in Crane.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Caddo Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating, directed by Morehart Mortuary.
Mr. Herring was born in Salesville and graduated from Mineral Wells High School in 1927. He then worked in a Mineral Wells drug store. He moved to McCamey in 1936 and worked as an oilfield roustabout and later as a production foreman and pumper. He moved to Breckenridge in 1951 and returned to McCamey in 1954. He married Babe Gray in Oklahoma and was a member of Oil City Masonic Lodge in McCamey.
Survivors include one son, Dal Herring of Evansville, Ind.; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Swenson Museum Sandefer Oil Annex and left at the funeral home.

Lawrence Everett Matney
BROWNWOOD -- Lawrence Everett Matney, 87, died Friday in a Midland hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Berryton, Kan., directed by Penwell Gabel Funeral Directors of Topeka, Kan.
Mr. Matney was born in Richland, Kan., and retired from the Kansas State Highway Department. He moved to Harbor Point at Lake Brownwood in 1981 and later to Brownwood. He was a member of Berryton United Methodist Church in Berryton, Kan., and was the widower of Maxine Matney.
Survivors include seven children, Mary Ann Jones of Early, Margaret Ann Blackwell of Plattsmouth, Neb., Lorene Sandry of Davenport, Iowa, Galen Everett Matney of Big Fork, Mont., Venita Renyer of Phoenix, Ariz., Sarah Lou Salyer of Dinuba, Calif., and Marsha Sue Gager of Prairie Grove, Ark.; two brothers, Clyde Elmer Matney of Topeka, Kan., and William "H.A." Matney of Berryton, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Mildred 'Midge' McCall
CROSS PLAINS -- Mildred "Midge" McCall, 95, died Saturday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Henry Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Cemetery.
Mrs. McCall was born in Eagle Mills, Ark., and was a homemaker. She was a sergeant with the U.S. Army Air Corps. She was active in Girl Scouts of America and Cross Plains Garden Club. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was the widow of Don F. McCall, whom she married in 1927 in Eastland County.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
