Dr. Al Tucker
BROWNWOOD -- Dr. Al Tucker, 60, died Friday in a San Marcos hospital.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Monday in Brownwood First Baptist Church with Dr. Ron Cook officiating. Burial will be private, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Dr. Tucker was born in San Marcos and graduated from Golden State Theological Seminary. He married Jan Robertson in 1959 in El Paso and was a director of research and continuing education at Howard Payne University. He also taught history at H.P.U. and was a certification officer. He lived in Brownwood from 1982-85 and returned to Brownwood in 1997. He was a Mason and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; two sons, Robert Lee Tucker of Brownwood and Jeffrey Tucker of Auburn, Ala.; his mother, Lois Tucker of San Angelo; one sister, Patsy Holden of San Angelo; five grandchildren; and four nephews.

Margie McCarver
CISCO -- Margie McCarver, 92, died Friday in an Abilene retirement center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Chris Craig officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McCarver was born in Putnam and worked as a production clerk for Gulf Oil Co. She was a homemaker. She taught Sunday school and was a member of Women's Missionary Union at First Baptist Church. She also was the leader of Baptist Young Women for many years. She was the widow of Wallace McCarver, whom she married in 1924 in Scranton.
Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Joyce Thiberville of Galveston; one brother, W.S. Jobe Jr. of Fort Worth; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ramiro 'Raymond' Ramos
BROWNWOOD -- Ramiro "Raymond" Ramos, 88, died Friday in a local hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Benedict Zientek officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mr. Ramos was born in Lott and moved to Brownwood in 1948. He worked for Continental Grain for 35 years until retiring. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was the widower of Dolores Hernandez Ramos, whom he married in 1935 in Cameron.
Survivors include five daughters, Geneva Santos of Houston, Mary Louise Herrera and Mary Christina Torrez, both of Brownwood, Minnie Marquez of Dallas and Virginia Medina of Austin; three sons, Richard Ramos of Brownwood, Jesse Ramos, and Joe Ramos of Waco; four sisters, Beatrice Quiroza, Frances Guttierez, Jovita Ramos and Julia Quarez; two brothers, Joe B. Ramos and Benito Ramos; 37 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren.

James Everett Beaver
ANSON -- James Everett Beaver, 88, died Saturday, January 23, 1999, in Austin. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 1999, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Loren Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
Born in rural Parker County, he was a son of the late Lavada Mathis Smith and Yeakley Smith. Lavada later married Baxter T. Beaver, by whom Everett was adopted and raised. He spent most of his childhood in Palo Pinto and Parker counties. He moved to Jones County when he was a young adult and graduated from Hamlin High School in 1928. He attended Weatherford Junior College and earned a B.A. degree in Spanish from the University of Texas in 1934. He was also a baseball player under Billy Disch at the University of Texas.
A lifelong educator, he began his teaching career in Anson and other Jones County schools in 1934. Soon thereafter he was employed as school superintendent in the oil boom community of Caddo in Stephens County. He returned to the University of Texas during the summers and earned a M.Ed. degree in 1941.
During World War II, Everett served in the 385th Bomber Group, 3rd Division, 8th Air Force, where he was stationed in the British Isles during the Battle of Britain. After the war, he returned to Anson and married Muriel Kelso October 20, 1946.
After the death of his father in 1946, he succeeded him as Jones County School Superintendent, a position to which Everett was re-elected for the next 30 years. During his tenure as County Superintendent, he was dedicated to maintaining high quality in rural schools in West Texas and supervised the consolidation of more than 40 rural schools into the five independent school districts which now serve Jones County. He was a mentor to generations of students and teachers throughout the region.
Everett was active in the First United Methodist Church of Anson, teaching the Fellowship Class for 54 years and also chairing the Board of Stewards. He was also very active in the Anson Lions Club, holding several offices and editing the bulletin for forty years.
Everett was an athlete all his life. After his retirement in 1976, he continued his long-standing love of the outdoors, golfing, fishing and hunting until just a few months prior to his death. He also devoted long hours to playing with and teaching his grandchildren. A lifelong Democrat, he remained active in politics and served as Legislative Chair for the Jones County chapter of the Texas Retired Teachers Association. He and other members of the "Wisdom Group" enjoyed many lively discussions each morning at the Anson drugstore.
Everett had recently returned to Austin where his love of a good story made him many new friends. He attended University United Methodist Church in Austin. He was a devoted fan of UT athletics and was active in the Longhorn Club until shortly before his death.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents (Lavada Scudder, B.T. Beaver and Yeakley Smith), by his stepfather (Jack Scudder) and by a brother (R.E. Smith).
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and William Schneider of Los Altos, Calif., and Becky Beaver and John B. Duncan of Austin; five grandchildren, Jennifer Duncan and her husband, Jamie Sanders, of Pittsburgh, Pa., William Duncan and Matthew Duncan, both of Austin, Anna Schneider and Ben Schneider, both of Los Altos, Calif.; four sisters, Effie Stuart of Anson, Veta Fay Platte of Crawford, Okla., Wanda Binckley of Tucson, Ariz., and Imogene Wilcox of Borger; three brothers, Melvin Smith of Hedley, Cecil Smith of Elk City, Okla., and Jack Smith of Borger; and cousins, Anna Grace Roberts of Midland and J.J. Mathis of Denton.

M.Y. (Yantis) Bull
BROWNWOOD -- M.Y. (Yantis) Bull, 86, grandfather of Mrs. Henry (Belinda) Stewart of Abilene and Karen Ward of Merkel, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Robinette officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery in Bangs, Tex.
Mr. Bull, of San Angelo and formerly of Brownwood and Melvin, was born in Brown County Nov. 19, 1912. He was a retired foreman for West Texas Oil Field after working there for 27 years. He was a retired rancher and also participated in rodeos with East Texas-Horse Showman. He was a Baptist. He lived the past few years in San Angelo. He married Burta Lee Hemphill at Comanche, Tex., on August 23, 1934.
Survivors include his wife, Burta Bull of San Angelo; daughters and sons-in-law, Bobbie Lynn and Marion Ward of Buchanan Dam, Tex., and Brenda and Harold Fox of Christoval, Tex.; brothers, Eddie Bull of Abilene, Kenneth Bull of Brady and Melvin Bull of Leakey; sisters, Bessie Ballou of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mallie Crawford of Bryan and Audrey Holt of Coleman; grandchildren Belinda Jo and Henery Stewart of Abilene, Steve Ward of Buchanan Dam, Debra Cox of Austin, Karen Ward of Merkel and Yantis Dean and Sheryl Green and Brandon Lee and Tina Green, all of Christoval; great-grandchildren Steffany Stewart of Abilene, Mandy Cox of Austin, Katelynn and Bentley Green and Paul and Ryan Ford, all of Christoval, and Jeana Fox of San Angelo.
He was preceded in death by one son, Willis Dean Bull; one grandson, David Bentley Green; two brothers and two sisters.

Bertie Tabor Winter
Bertie M. Tabor Winter, 97, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South, with the Rev. Robert C. Allen officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel.
Mrs. Winter was born in Kaufman County and attended school at Weinert. She moved to Abilene from Truby in 1945 and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Roy Winter in Merkel; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Roy Earl "Sonny" Winter of Harlingen; four daughters, Sybil McLean, Selma Tyree, Thelma Cooper and Geraldine Jackson, all of Abilene; 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

David Bowen Hughes
David Bowen Hughes, 18, a student in Austin, died after a traffic accident Friday in Austin.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at North's Funeral Home, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road, with David Wray officiating.

Robert Flores
ROTAN -- Robert R. Flores, 47, died Saturday at an Amarillo hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at El Ranchita Catholic Church with the Rev. Johnrose Hayden officiating. Burial will be in El Ranchita Cemetery.
Mr. Flores was born in Hamlin and was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of El Ranchita Catholic Church. He married Sara Guel in 1972 in Laredo.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Flores Jr. and Mark Anthony Flores, both of Dumas; three daughters, Mona Lisa Flores and Cynthia Flores, both of Dumas, and Ana Bel Garcia of Amarillo; seven brothers, Richard Ramos of California, Joe Flores of Lubbock, Juan Flores of Childress, Jesse Flores of Rotan, Vito Flores of Ropesville, Thomas Flores of Colorado City and Martin Flores of Dumas; two sisters, Frances Flores of Rotan and Margaret Lopez of Ropesville; and five grandchildren.

Alice Brewer Trammell
BRECKENRIDGE -- Alice Brewer Trammell, 80, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Johnny Miller officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Trammell was born in Breckenridge, where she lived all her life. She graduated from Breckenridge High School and attended North Texas State, Tarleton State and Texas Tech universities. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church and Couples Sunday school class. She married Norman Brewer in 1939 in Lubbock; he preceded her in death. She married James Trammell in 1987 in Breckenridge.
Survivors include her husband, of Breckenridge; one daughter, Betty Ann Brewer of Breckenridge; three stepdaughters, Judy Salsman and Jane Trammell, both of Lebanon, Mo., and Jean Ann Brown of Little Rock, Ark.; one sister, Betty Hanna of Breckenridge; one brother, Ross Elliott of Breckenridge; six grandchildren, one step-grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials to First United Methodist Church or to Meals on Wheels may be left at the funeral home.
