Richard Banks Sr.
EARLY -- Services for Richard J. Banks Sr., 79, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Faith Community Church with the Rev. Aaron Blake Sr. officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.
Mr. Banks was born in Kenedy and was retired from Evans Cleaners and Tom Byrd Cleaners. He married Louise East in 1944 in Brownwood.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; four sons, Richard Banks Jr., Ronnie Banks, Frank "Punkin" Banks and Ira Banks, all of Brownwood; two daughters, Rose Massingale and Mary Banks, both of Brownwood; one sister, Salita Chase of Oakland, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Lester Curry
BROWNWOOD -- Johnnie Lester Curry, 82, died Saturday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Eastlawn Cemetery with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mr. Curry was born in Brown County and attended McDaniel School. He was a Baptist and was retired from the city of Brownwood. He married Verta Allene Roberts in 1939 in Bangs.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; three sons, Johnny Lee Curry Sr. of Bangs and Darvin Ray Curry and Sammy Leon Curry, both of Brownwood; two daughters, Odessa-Faye Moore of Grosvenor and Lenda-Joyce Wash of Brownwood; one brother, Lester Curry of Brownwood; two sisters, Muriel Perez of Brownwood and Imagene Willborn of Early; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. today.

Florence (Mrs. R.W.) Brooks
ALBANY -- Florence (Mrs. R.W.) Brooks, 88, died Saturday at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Stenberg officiating. Burial will be in Moran Cemetery in Moran, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brooks was born in Altus, Okla., and was a homemaker. She was a 50-year member of Moran Cemetery Association, a member of Moran Birthday Club and First United Methodist Church and a former member of the Amity Club. She married R.W. "Bud" Brooks in 1926 in Breckenridge; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Robeerta (Mrs. Ed) Bartee of Albany; one sister, Wanda Lauppe of Saginaw; two grandsons, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Bessie Merritt
MERKEL -- Bessie Merritt, 98, of South San Francisco, Calif., died Thursday in South San Francisco.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Starbuck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Merritt was born in Jacksboro and attended Hardin-Simmons College. She taught school and was a principal at Salt Branch, Compere and Noodle. She was a clerk at Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard for 21 years. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Foster City, Calif., and a life member and past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star 212 in Merkel. She married Vernie Lee Merritt in 1922 in Merkel; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Berneal Merritt of South San Francisco, and three grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Lena Belle Rexroat Chestnut
RANGER -- Lena Belle Rexroat Chestnut, 85, of Fort Worth and formerly of Ranger, died Saturday in Fort Worth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Speer officiating. Burial will be in Blue Flat Cemetery in Palo Pinto County, near Gordon.
Mrs. Chestnut was born in Gordon and grew up there and in Blue Flat. She lived in Gordon until moving to Ranger in 1944. She was a cook for Raymon Bryant's El Rancho Cafe for several years and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. She moved to Fort Worth in 1990. She was the widow of Roy Avis Chestnut.
Survivors include one son, John Chestnut of Crowley, and one brother, Thornton Rexroat of Anton.

Delna Loretta 'Rita' Rouse Wynn
CROSS PLAINS -- Delna Loretta "Rita" Rouse Wynn, 68, of Levelland died Sunday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Atwell Cemetery Shelter with Wayne Lenz officiating, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wynn was born in Cisco and was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Buell Wynn in 1972 in Juarez, Mexico.
Survivors include her husband, of Shallowater; one son, Bobby Dan Havens of Lubbock; three daughters, Debbie Lynn Field and Sandra Gay Ahrens, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Cynthia Kay Terral of Lubbock; three sisters, Doris Wilma Goble and Eddie Faye Dillard, both of Cross Plains, and Elva Nell Dupriest of Rankin; 10 grandchildren, eight nieces and nephews and other relatives.

The family will be at the funeral home from 10-11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Charles Green
Charles Green, 64, of Abilene died Monday at his home.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. today at North's Funeral Home Chapel, 4002 Buffalo Gap Road.
Mr. Green was born and grew up in Erie, Pa., and moved to Abilene after marriage. He was a Navy veteran and was retired from PCI. He was a member of the Abilene Memory Men barbershop chorus and of Caps Baptist Church. He married Wanda Cope in 1981 in Austin.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; four daughters, Valre Kehler of Glendora, Calif., Kathie James of Milford, N.H., Kim Ballew of Buford, Ga., and Lynne Wallace of Satellite Beach, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Gaylene Templeton of Abilene and Susan Kurlander of Dallas; two stepsons, Eddie Dempsey of Abilene and Larry Dempsey of Brownwood; four sisters, Ethel Schuman, Delores Ward and Elsie Lemke, all of Erie, and Gertrude Yaple of Warren, Pa.; five brothers, Robert Green of Abilene, Ellwyn Green of Jacksonville, Fla., Norman Green of Waterford, Pa., Ted Green of Florida and Walter Green of New Mexico; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Curtis Giffin Henderson
Curtis Giffin Henderson, 76, of Abilene died Monday at a local nursing center.
Private graveside services will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South.
Mr. Henderson was born in Fairpoint, Ohio, and was a 1948 graduate of Ohio State University. He had lived in Abilene since 1951 and was a self-employed CPA. He was a Presbyterian and an Army Signal Corps veteran.
Survivors include Ann Henderson of Abilene, the mother of his children; two sons, Richard Dean Henderson of Austin and Scott C. Henderson of Abilene; one brother, Ralph A. Henderson Jr. of Fairfield, Ohio; one sister, Ginny Swartz of Saratoga, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Sharron Ann Sherrod
Sharron Ann Sherrod, 51, died Sunday at a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lytle South Baptist Church with the Revs. Rodney Watson and Dennis Cutbirth officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Girdner Funeral Home, 111 Elm.
Mrs. Sherrod was born in Abilene and graduated from Cooper High School. She owned and operated Traditions Frame Shop and was a member of Lytle South Baptist Church. She founded Noah's Ark Children's Church.
Survivors include one son, Wesley Carl Sherrod of Abilene; one daughter, Wendy Ann Sherrod of Abilene; one sister, Melinda Hoover of Terre Haute, Ind.; and her mother, Betty Jean Yancy of Abilene.
