Ethel Cadenhead George
BROWNWOOD -- Ethel Cadenhead George, 96, of Abilene and formerly of Brownwood, died Tuesday in an Abilene nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Ted Kell officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Mrs. George was born in Friendship, Ala., and graduated from De Leon High School. She moved to Brownwood in 1922 and graduated from Howard Payne College in 1932. She was a school teacher. She was recognized in 1990 by Dyess Elementary in Abilene for her volunteer work in making costumes for students to wear during the annual I Love America Day program. She received a Pride of Abilene Award in 1994 for her volunteer service. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of S. Spencer George, whom she married in 1925.
Survivors include one daughter, Bennie Ruth Mouser of Abilene; three sisters, Ima Grace Williams of Brownwood, Pauline Hays of Wichita Falls and Nell King of Waco; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

'Buddy' Pilley
TUSCOLA -- Hubert E. "Buddy" Pilley, 69, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Tuscola Cemetery with the Rev. David Botterbrodt officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home.
Mr. Pilley was born in Canton and married Gardenia Smith in 1945 in Abilene. He lived in Abilene and Waco before moving to Dallas in 1975. He was a self-employed restaurant owner in Dallas. He moved to Tuscola in 1990 and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Tuscola; two sons, Bill Pilley of Logansport, La., and John W. Pilley of Leesville, La.; two daughters, Linda Armstrong and LaDell Pilley, both of Tuscola; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Leon Lepard
BROWNFIELD -- Leon Lepard, 68, formerly of the Big Country, died Monday in Denver City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brownfield Church of Christ with John McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Terry County Memorial Cemetery, directed by Brownfield Funeral Home.
Mr. Lepard was born in Stanton and attended school in Big Spring. He married Dixie Brown in 1951 in Abilene and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Abilene Christian College in 1955. He then moved to Brownfield and farmed until retiring in 1982. He served on Abilene Christian's advisory board and was a member of the school's Hall of Fame. He also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownfield; three sons, Richard Lepard of Sweetwater, Russell Lepard of Brownfield and Robert Lepard of Muleshoe; one sister, Mary Lou House of Crowley; and eight grandchildren.

Earl Oman
ERICKSDAHL -- Earl Oman, 78, lifelong Jones County resident, died Tuesday in a Stamford hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Bethel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kent Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Churchyard Cemetery, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford.
Mr. Oman was born in Jones County and married Mary Hagemann in 1941 in Bomarton. He was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Ericksdahl; one son, Stanley Oman of Lueders; one daughter, Rose Mary Edwards of Abilene and Ericksdahl; one sister, Tilda Fuqua of Pasadena; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Bill Gorman
BAIRD -- Bill Gorman, 62, employed by Callahan County Farmers Co-Op for 26 years, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Parker Funeral Home Chapel with Bob Sweeten and Wesley Gorman officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery.
Mr. Gorman was born in Midway in Callahan County and was a lifelong Baird resident. He graduated from Baird High School and attended McMurry University. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include four brothers, J.D. Gorman of Spokane, Wash., John L. Gorman of Dallas, Ore., Don Gorman of San Angelo and Sam Gorman of Abilene; and many nieces and nephews.

James Chesshir
CROSS PLAINS -- James E. Chesshir, 76, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Rising Star Church of Christ with Gary Adams officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mr. Chesshir was born at Gasoline in Hall County and graduated from Turkey High School. He served with the U.S. Navy's Seabees in Midway and the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married Charlene Holley in 1946 and graduated from Abilene College, which later became Abilene Christian College and then Abilene Christian University. He moved to Cross Plains in 1953 from Abilene and farmed until retiring in 1996. He helped organize the Pioneer Farmers Co-Op in the middle 1960s. He was a director of the Eastland County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was an elder at the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Cross Plains; three sons, John Chesshir of Oklahoma City, Jim E. Chesshir of Odessa and Charles W. Chesshir of Cross Plains; two daughters, Christy Dallas of Lake Leon and Nancy King of Eastland; one brother, Lewis Haskell Chesshir of Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Ardell Evans of Austin; and nine grandchildren.
The body will be at Higginbotham Funeral Home in Rising Star today. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home.

Paul Lewis Norris
KOKOMO -- Paul Lewis Norris, 74, died Monday in a Stephenville hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Gorman with Barry Brown and Don Washek officiating. Burial will be in Simpson Cemetery north of Kokomo.
Mr. Norris was born in Eastland County married Imogene Burleson in 1944 in Eastland. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Gorman.
Survivors include his wife, of Kokomo; one son, James Norris of Desdemona; three daughters, Paula Morrow of Plains, Jeanna Pack of Carbon and Lisa Lewis of Stephenville; six sisters, Lettie Pullig of Sweetwater, Louise Dorsey, Cleo Duncan and Winnette Maynard, all of Eastland, Faye Hadderton of Jacksboro and Juanita Broom of Plains; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Ethel Metz
COMANCHE -- Ethel French Metz, 109, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Art Allen officiating. Burial will be in Pendergrass Cemetery.
Mrs. Metz was born near Nolanville and grew up in Mills County. She owned and operated a restaurant and meat market in Bangs for several years. She moved to California during World War II and repaired damaged airplanes from the Pacific at the Sacramento Air Depot. She then worked for the state of California.
Survivors include one son, A.B. Metz of Carmichael, Calif.; two daughters, Christine Guyer of San Diego and Bernice Jones of Comanche; one brother, Verne French of Brownwood; two sisters, Faye Wagner of Brownwood and Irene Braswell of Israel; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Alice Rosemon Cox
DE LEON -- Alice Rosemon Cox, 90, died Monday in a Comanche hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tom Satterwhite officiating. Burial will be in Pottsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was born in Hamilton County and married Carl Cox in 1929 in Gustine. She was a homemaker. She lived in Godley and Odessa before moving to De Leon in 1980. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, of De Leon; four sons, Charles Cox of Godley, Bill Cox of De Leon, Harold Cox of Albany and Gary Cox of Cypress; three daughters, Peggie Penn and Lola Carr, both of De Leon, and Patsy Shields of Aurora, Colo.; four sisters, Georgia Northcutt and Margie Wilkins, both of Fort Worth, Jimmie Dean Adcock of Gustine and Mary Ellen Tallant of Weatherford; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
