Nora Ann Brandon-Petty
(January 3, 1938 - December 23, 2011)
A graveside service for Mrs. Nora Ann Brandon-Petty, 73, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Cushing City Cemetery with Rev. Terry Hodge officiating.
Mrs. Petty was born on January 3, 1938, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late Charles Lloyd and Alla Mae Thacker Hudgins.
She passed away on Friday, December 23, 2011, in Nacogdoches.
Nora is survived by loving husband of 29 years, Gene Petty of Nacogdoches; her son, Charles Ray Brandon of Richardson, Texas; her brother, George Hudgins of Dallas, Texas; her sister, Linda Still and husband, Rick of Nacogdoches, Texas; three grandchildren, Dallas, Chad and Monica Brandon; and four great-grandchildren, Brooke, Paxson, David and Dallas Brandon, Jr.; as well as other extended family and good friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her former husband, Homer Lee Brandon, her brothers, Langston and Jerry Hudgins and her sister, Laverne Attaway.

Mary Bell Ward
(October 28, 1932 - December 2, 2011)
Mrs. Ward was born on October 28, 1932, in Nacogdoches, Texas to the late James Albert Simpson and Velma Fountain Simpson.
She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday, December 2, 2011, in Nacogdoches.
Mary was raised in Nacogdoches and graduated from Nacogdoches High School.
After high school Mary graduated from the first nursing class at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.
After 30 years of employment in the emergency and labor and delivery she retired from nursing.
Not giving up on the job she loved, she worked 10 more years as a private duty nurse until her health would no longer let her.
Mary loved to read. She adored her grandchildren and spent all the time she could with them.
She also loved what she deemed "windshield time."
She loved to ride in cars.
She would volunteer to go with her children "to sit in the car to watch the grandchildren" while they did errands.
She had been a resident for the last year at Garrison Nursing Home.
Before her health declined and she had to move into the nursing home, Mary's house was the place to be for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a snack.
She loved to cook and anyone, no matter who it was, be it family, friend or a stranger, they were invited to sit at her table to eat her wonderful meals she prepared.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Mary is survived by her children, Barbara Carragher and husband, Steve of Wichita, Kansas, Larry Nelson Sowell and wife, Holly of Nacogdoches, Garry Nelson Sowell of Nacogdoches, Rhonda Banks of Nacogdoches, Charles McClain and wife, Vickie of Nacogdoches, Jenny Ingram and husband, Charles of Conroe and Katrina Bush of Nacogdoches; fifteen grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Oren Simpson and wife, Kitty of Melrose; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and great friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Theo Leland McClain and two brothers, Howard Simpson and Elmo Simpson.
Margie Elizabeth Mitchell
(January 21, 1925 - December 25, 2011)
Funeral service for Mrs. Margie Elizabeth Speer Mitchell, 86, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 2:00 pm at Laird Funeral Home with Rev. Farrar Bentley officiating.
Burial will follow at Linn Flatt Cemetery.
Mrs. Mitchell was born on January 21, 1925, to the late John Alfred and Inez Wells Speer.
She passed away peacefully on December 25, 2011, in Nacogoches, Texas.
Margie grew up in Central Heights and Nacogdoches and graduated from Nacogodoches High School in 1942.
She was a Rosie the Riveter in San Diego, California during WWII and had worked for Mize's Factory in Nacogdoches as well.
Margie loved to sew and taught her children and grandchildren the basics.
She also loved to quilting and passed her finished quilts on to her loving family.
She also enjoyed reading and tending her beautiful flower gardens.
She was a long standing member of Fairview United Methodist Church of Nacogdoches.
Margie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed by her family.
Margie is survived by her children, Sue Hutto and husband, Steven of Kingwood, Jamie Sanchez and husband, Robert of Nacogdoches, Beth Crippen of Nacogdoches, Jeffory Mitchell and wife, Debora of Mt. Enterprise and Tracy Mitchell and wife, Jamie of Phoeniz, Arizona; fourteen grandchildren, Erek Hutto, Whitney Lagasse, Jeremy Sanchez, David Sanchez, Michael Sanchez, John Sanchez, Elizabeth Russell, Iaian Crippen, LeAnna Walthall, Michael Mitchell, Ressi Mitchell, Jefforson Mitchell, Taylor Mitchell and Kelsey Mitchell; ten great-grandchildren; as well as numerous other extended family and great friends.
In addition to her parents, John and Inez Speer, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Louis Mitchell; one son, David Louis Mitchell; one daughter, Gail Mitchell; as well as numerous siblings.
Pallbearers will be Iaian Crippen, Jeremy Sanchez, John Sanchez, Michael Mitchell, Jefforson Mitchell and Scott Lagasse.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the America Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 96911, Washington, DC 20090-6911.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 5-7 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
E.L. Luna
(Died December 25, 2011)
A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. E.L. Luna, 96, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor James E. Young officiating.
Burial will follow at Moral Cemetery.
Mr. Luna was born on October 14, 1915, to the late Nora Poskey and John Luna and was called home by the Lord on December 25, 2011.
E.L. lived in Nacogdoches all his life.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He worked for Champion Paper Mill in Lufkin, Texas for 32 years. E.L. retired to help his wife, Faustina with Luna's Restuarant.
He loved playing the guitar, singing and dancing and was very talented at all three.
He also had a passion for sports, especially football.
But more than anything he loved his wife and family.
E.L. is survived by his son's and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Judy Luna and John C. and Lynn Luna both of Nacogdoches; daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Taylor McKewen of Lufkin; a brother and his wife, Sammy and Patricia Luna of Orlando, Florida; a sister, Nancy Lopez of Nacogdoches; brother-n-law, Raymond Ramos of Nacogdoches; sister-n-law, Mary Lou Martines of Beaumont; twelve grandchildren, twenty seven great-grandchildren and sixteen great-great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and good friends.
In additon to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Faustina Ramos Luna; his daughter, Mary Ann Jackson; one brother, Gene Luna; and sisters, Betty Reeves and Zeffie Ramos.
Pallbearers will the Knights of Columbus.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kevin Luna, Jr., Paul Luna, Darrell Luna, Scott Jackson, Tony Luna and Kirk Ross.

Shirley Austin
(January 14, 1941 - December 30, 2011)
Funeral service for Mrs. Shirley Faye Austin, 70, of Nacogdoches, Texas will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Laird Funeral Home with Bro. Norris Dudley officiating.
Burial will follow at Martinsville Cemetery.
Mrs. Austin was born on January 14, 1941, in Salem, Louisiana to the late L.C. and Loraine Agnus Upshaw Caskey.
She passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Friday, December 30, 2011, in Nacogdoches.
Shirley grew up in Hodge, Louisiana.
She attended Jonesboro-Hodge High School.
She married the love of her life, Thomas W. Austin on February 9, 1957.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Shirley liked to listen to country music, site seeing, going to the mountains of Arkansas and visiting her grandchildren.
She was a longstanding member of Stallings Drive Baptist Church and liked to sing specials at church alongside her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Thomas W. Austin of Nacogdoches; son, Thomas Wayne Austin, Jr. and wife, Cheryl of Ft. Worth; son, Enos Austin and wife, Teresa of Nacogdoches; a daughter, Martha Faye Thacker and husband, James of Pearland; one brother, Edward Caskey and wife, Ann of Bossier City, Louisiana; five grandchildren, Thomas Lee Rogers and wife, Traci of Carthage, Amanda Faye Mosley of Joaquin, Jason Robert Austin of Nacogdoches, Christopher Enos Austin of Nacogdoches and Briana Lynn Thacker of Pearland; two great-grandchildren; as well as other extended family and great friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, L.C. and Loraine Caskey.
Pallbearers will be Adam Renfro, Bro. L.C. Frederick, Chris Jones, Aaron Jones, Kenny Branton and Henry Denton.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 1, 2012, from 6 until 8 pm at Laird Funeral Home.
