Patsy Ruth Walker
MERKEL -- Patsy Ruth Walker, 70, of Abilene and formerly of Merkel, died Thursday in an Abilene nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Merkel First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Griffith and Ted Spear officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walker was born in Goodman in Jones County and graduated from Trent High School. She worked as a billing clerk at Taylor Electric Co-Op for many years until retiring in 1983. She taught Sunday school and sang in the choir at First Baptist Church and was the widow of Leon Walker, whom she married in 1947 in Merkel.
Survivors include three sons, Richard Walker and Mike Walker, both of Abilene, and Stephen Walker of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Ann Heard of Muskogee, Okla., and Stephanie Spear of Colorado City; two brothers, Odell Pomroy of Monahans and James Pomroy of Crane; two sisters, Audie Barnes of Merkel and Jeri Armour of Rockdale; and 12 grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Margaret Iris Trout Morales
EASTLAND -- Margaret Iris Trout Morales, 54, of Ranger and formerly of Eastland, died Thursday in a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery.
Mrs. Morales was born in Ranger and grew up in Eastland. She married Dale Files, the father of her two children, in 1960. She worked as a manager of McGee’s Country Store in Lewisville for 10 years. She was the widow of J.W. Jackson, whom she married in 1985 in Lewisville; and Snuffy Morales, whom she married in Breckenridge. She formerly lived in Breckenridge. She married Dale Tollett in 1993 in Ranger and was a convenience store manager, wallpaper installer and nurse’s aide. She was a member of TOPS Club in Breckenridge and Rose Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Ranger; one son, Ricky Files of Lewisville; one daughter, Cheryl Downey of Valley View; four stepdaughters; two sisters, Rita Wesley of Breckenridge and Doris Tharp of Big Sandy; five grandchildren; and many step grandchildren.

Dolores Stella Morris
BROWNWOOD -- Dolores Stella Morris, 84, of College Station and formerly of Brownwood, died Monday in a College Station nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Brownwood First Baptist Church with Dr. James Basden officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Morris was born in Kansas City, Mo., and was a homemaker. She lived in Brownwood for 60 years. She was a member of 20th Century Club, Daughters of the American Revolution and First Baptist Church. She was the widow of Dr. James Laban "Dick" Morris, whom she married in 1934 in Kansas City, Mo.
Survivors include one son, Richard Morris of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one daughter, Sylvia Ashley of College Station; and four grandchildren.

Thomas Elmer Thackerson
DUBLIN -- Thomas Elmer Thackerson, 96, died Thursday at his home.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jesse Bigbee and Neely Carter officiating. Burial will be in Upper Greens Creek Cemetery.
Mr. Thackerson was born in Cottonwood. He was the widower of Irene DeBusk Thackerson. He was a member of Greens Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the International Order of Oddfellows.
Survivors include six daughters, Fay Gooch of Red Oak, Okla., Florene Allen of Granbury, Juanite Davis of Fort Worth, Alma "Sally" Jackson of Weatherford, Artie Mohler of Cedar Hill and Nora Carter of Dublin; two sons, Elmer B. "Pete" Thackerson of Irving and James "Sonny" Thackerson of Dublin; 20 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Verda Smithey
BROWNWOOD -- Verda Smithey, 72, died Friday at her home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gerald Green officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Ms. Smithey was born in Brownwood, where she lived most of her life. She returned to Brownwood in 1968 and was a retired waitress. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Hammonds of Decatur and Sherry Hagood of Brownwood; one son, Nickey Allen Slatton of Brownwood; two sisters, Pete Simmons of Bangs and Mildred Allen of Brownwood; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Coy Lee ‘Red’ Moore
SWEETWATER -- Coy Lee "Red" Moore, 73, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jay Simpson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Garden of Memories.
Mr. Moore was born in Jack County. He served with the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division in Europe during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He married Wanda Louise Rinehart in 1951 in Stamford and formerly lived in Longworth. He worked overseas as a driller and drilling consultant for Patterson Energy until retiring. He then was a security guard for Walls Industries. He was a commander of the Disabled American Veterans chapter in Sweetwater and was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; one daughter, Patrisha Walker of Buras, La.; his mother, Minnie Moore of Sweetwater; three brothers, Jack Moore of Sweetwater, Wayne Moore of Snyder and Horace Moore of Houston; one sister, Ola Robb of New Windsor, Ill.; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Hazel Brookover Smith
COLORADO CITY -- Hazel Brookover Smith, 77, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in First Methodist Church with Cliff Vlasin officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Cyril, Okla. and moved to Colorado City in 1926. She graduated from Colorado City High School and attended Baylor University. She was the widow of George W. Smith, whom she married in 1957 in Kokomo, Ind. She was a bookkeeper, becoming a partner/owner with Col-Tex. She was a member of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Sue Daken of Beeville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Troy Jack Boggs
BRECKENRIDGE -- Troy Jack Boggs, 70, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Revs. Richard Ingram and Cecil Harper officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery.
Mr. Boggs was born in South Bend and lived in Breckenridge for many years. He married Loretta Rogers in 1950 in Albany and also lived in Midland in the 1950s. He worked for the city of Breckenridge as a fireman for three years, a patrolman for 15 years and retired as a mechanic in 1979. He was also a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, of Breckenridge; one son, James D. Boggs of Breckenridge; one daughter, Lorey A. White of Graham; four brothers, Benny J. Boggs of Eula, Dale Boggs and Charles Ray Boggs, both of Breckenridge, and L.C. Boggs of Aransas Pass; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels and left at the funeral home.

Leonard Davis
Leonard E. Davis, 82, of Hawley, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in North’s Funeral Home Chapel, 242 Orange, with Rev. David Bartley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Davis was born in Brown County and moved to the Hawley area as a child. He graduated from Hawley High School and attended Draughon’s Business College. He married Ruby Inez Cupps in 1938. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps’ Training Command at Childress, Training Command Headquarters at Randolph Field in San Antonio and Texas Service’s Air Inspector’s Office. He worked as a certified public accountant for 50 years. He also opened and operated Leonard’s Department Store which was later expanded to a chain of seven stores operating under the name of Star Discount Center. He was treasurer of the charter board of directors of Abilene Boys Ranch. He was a member of Optimist Club, Abilene Masonic Lodge 559, Creative Arts Club and Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sisters, Opal Price, of Abilene, and Ruby King, of Bowie.
Visitation will be today from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
