Opal Little
Opal Little, 90, died Friday at a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Rudy Fambrough officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Little was born in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, and came to the Abilene area as a child, attending school in Little Elm, Denton Valley, Tecumseh, and New Hope. She also attended Draughon’s Business College. She was employed at Camp Barkley during World War II and at various insurance agencies in Abilene before retiring from the Hunter-Weeks Insurance Agency in 1987. She was the widow of Luther Lee Little, whom she married in Abilene. She taught the Cradle Roll and Beginners Sunday school classes for many years at Immanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Allmand of Abilene; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Erma Hunt
Erma I. Hunt, 84, of Colorado City, died Friday in a local care center.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Eastland Cemetery with Tim Plant officiating, directed by North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Ms. Hunt was the daughter of Eastland pioneers and graduated from Eastland High School. Her family established the Carpenter Company in Abilene, Midland and Odessa.
She is survived by one brother, E.M. Hunt, of Eastland; and several nieces and nephews.

Stella May Carter
Stella May Carter, 79, a longtime Abilene resident, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Price Mathieson officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was born in Roby and attended school in Sylvester. She was the widow of Alvis Criffin Carter, whom she married in 1939. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Sterling Carter of Abilene; one daughter, Bonnie McConnel of Lawton, Okla.; two brothers, Owen Brazee of Roby, and Dan Brazee, of Hawley; one sister, June Wallace, of Cleburne; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Loretta Oneta Riney
Loretta Oneta Riney, 85, a longtime Clyde resident, died Friday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Englewood Cemetery in Slaton, with Brian Patterson officiating, directed by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Riney was the widow of Jesse Bell Riney, whom she married in 1935. She was a member of Spade Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Jesse Joe Riney, of Plainview, Freddy H. Riney, of Clyde, and Ronald Gene Riney, of Olton; two brothers, Alan Ferguson, of Port Angeles, Wa., and Weldon Ferguson, of Salem, Or.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Malissia Lee ‘Leta’ Welch
Malissia Lee "Leta" Welch, 92, a longtime Abilene resident, died Thursday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Revs. Paul Bullman and Scott Mayer officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mrs. Welch was born in Aspermont where she graduated from high school. She was the widow of Marvin Edward Welch. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Abilene State School and was an Evangelical Methodist.
Survivors include one son, Gerald Welch, of Coleman; six daughters, Jery Morris, of Menlo, Ga., Linda Thomas, of Abilene, Frankie Bullman, of Phoenix, Az., Charlotte Wilson, of Sun Valley, Ca., Ladelle Optitz, of Haskell, and Gloria Wolfe, of Houston; one sister, Nora Gardner, of Alameda, Ca.; and 21 grandchildren.

The Rev. Thurman L. Pond
GLEN COVE -- The Rev. Thurman L. Pond, 91, of San Angelo and formerly of Glen Cove, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Stevens Funeral Home Chapel in Coleman with Don Seigler, the Revs. Jerry Shields and Clyde McCollough, and Chaplain Bill Powell officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cove Cemetery.
The Rev. Pond was born in Duke, Okla., and attended Mount Hope School in Cook County. He married Viola M. Reeves in 1929 in Marysville. He began his ministry at age 16 and was ordained in 1929. After graduating from Howard Payne, he pastored churches in County Line, Hartwell, Redwine, Tarzan, West Camp, Mayfield and Courtney, all in Texas, and Sedan and Hayden, N.M. for a total of more than 49 years until retiring in 1979.
Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; one son, Walter C. Pond, of Glen Cove; one daughter, Doris Jean Seigler, of Alamogordo, N.M.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorothy Eunice Elliott
BROWNWOOD -- Dorothy Eunice Elliott, 102, a longtime Brownwood resident, died Friday in a local care center.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Steve McMeans and Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Elliott was born in Indian Territory, now Oklahoma, and was a homemaker. She was the widow of Alvis Cortess Elliott, whom she married in 1916.
Survivors include two daughters, Lura Mae Covey and Wynogene "Jean" Stanke, both of Brownwood; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-granchildren.

Mayme Helena Rogoski
STRAWN -- Mayme Helena Rogoski, 82, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Vincent Inamitti officiating. Burial will be in Mount Marion Cemetery.
Ms. Rogoski was born in Strawn, where she graduated from high school. She attended beautician school before joining her father in his photography business, which she operated until retiring. She returned to Strawn from Hobbs, N.M., and was a member of the Altar Society at St. John Catholic Church.
Survivors include one sister, Barbara Gackle, of Strawn; three nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

Edith Mae Thomas
TRENT -- Edith Mae Thomas, 92, of Sweetwater and formerly of Trent, died Friday in a Sweetwater care center.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Trent Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Schroyer officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home of Merkel.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, and was the widow of Henry Thomas. She was a homemaker, private home health caretaker and a cook at Leonard’s Cafe in Floydada, where she lived for 37 years. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Floydada.
Survivors include two sons, James Gilbert, of Lincoln, Calif., and Charlie W. Spann, of Houston; three daughters, Flora Parvin, of Floydada, Dollie Goodson, of Stafford, and Jean Dunn, of Trent; 29 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Joe Allen McCluskey
BROWNWOOD -- Joe Allen McCluskey, 74, a longtime Brownwood resident, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Placid Cemetery in McCullough County.
Mr. McCluskey served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married Ellen Joyce Powell in 1954 in Brownwood. He was a retired conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; two sons, John McCluskey and Joe McCluskey, Jr, both of Brownwood; two daughters, Jennifer McCluskey, of Brownwood, and Karen Griffin, of Coppell; one step-daughter, Debra Crow, of Brownwood; one step-son, Jim Post, of Brownwood; one sister, Erma Rakes, of Brownwood; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
