William Branch ‘W.B.’ Smith
HOUSTON -- William Branch "W.B." Smith, 74, died Saturday in Houston.
Services will be at noon today at Westbury Church of Christ with Bill Yasko officiating, assisted by Mike Strawn. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene, directed by George H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors.
Mr. Smith was born in Sealy and was a veteran of World War II. He graduated from Abilene Christian University and North Texas State University and was a teacher, coach and high school principal for 18 years. He was a sales associate for Science Research Associates/IBM for 22 years and for Regency Educational Systems until retiring in 1998. He was a member of Westbury Church of Christ for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda VanZandt Smith; two daughters, Brenda Pechacek and Pam Strawn; one son, Pat Smith; one brother, Dr. Sherrel Smith; three sisters, Amelia Smith, Gwendell Clemmer and Lorah Richey; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews and 15 great-nieces and -nephews.
The family will be at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory in Abilene, from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Ronda Lee Stephens
CISCO -- Ronda Lee Stephens, 6, died Saturday at a Dallas hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Hannibal United Methodist Church with Bob Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Hannibal Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn.
Ronda was born in Galveston and was a kindergarten student in Cisco. She was a member of Cisco Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her mother, Betty Stephens of Cisco; grandmother Patsy Williams of Lake Leon; great-grandmother Ann Blue of Mingus; one brother, Brian Neff of Richwood; three sisters, Misty Snow of Richwood, Shalada Snow of Abilene and Sharaty Snow of Gordon; and several other relatives.

Hilton ‘Hack’ Hackney
DENVER CITY -- Hilton "Hack" Hackney, 72, died Thursday in Lubbock.
Services were Saturday at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Auld officiating. Graveside services were Saturday in Dudley Cemetery in Dudley, directed by Ratliff Funeral Home.
Mr. Hackney was born in Childress and lived in Abiene before moving to Denver City nine years ago. He was a six-year veteran of the Army Military Police and worked in the oil fields before retiring. He married Helen Blanscet in 1952 in Clovis, N.M.
Survivors include his wife, of Denver City; one son, Patrick Mark Hackney of Lawton, Okla.; four daughters, Sandra Janean Beggs of Eula, Darla Sue Boggs and Cheyerl Lynn Harris, both of Denver City, and Charlotte Renee Boggs of Breckenridge; one brother, Jack Hackney; one sister, Ima Lee Cook; 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Minnie Elizabeth Daugherty
COLEMAN -- Minnie Elizabeth Daugherty, 80, of Goldsboro died Sunday at her home.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lawn Church of Christ with Roy Myers officiating. The body will be cremated. Ashes will be buried Saturday in Monte Vista Cemetery in Alamogordo, N.M., directed by Walker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Daugherty was born in La Luz, N.M., and lived in the Alamogordo, Deming and Silver City, N.M., areas all her life until moving to Coleman County in 1995. She was a homemaker, rancher and member of the Church of Christ. She married Roy Daugherty in 1935 in Bisbee, Ariz.; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Giraud of Goldsboro; one son, Dr. Bill Daugherty of Correls, N.M.; one sister, Mona Huttanus of El Paso; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mattie McAlister
FORT WORTH -- Mattie A. McAlister, 95, of Springtown died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, directed by White’s Funeral Homes of Weatherford.
Mrs. McAlister was born near Waco and moved to Stamford in 1905. She was a telephone operator while in Stamford. She also lived in Wichita Fall, Childress and Plainview and, in 1940, moved to Palacios. She moved to Abilene in 1943 and to Snyder in 1950, where she aided her husband in developing McAlister Van Lines. She moved to San Antonio in 1958, back to Abilene in 1963 and retired to Springtown in 1964. She helped found and operate what is now the Walnut Creek Special Utility District and was a member of First Methodist Church in Springtown. She married Ores McAlister in 1923 in Stamford; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons, Bob McAlister of Austin, Ted McAlister of Springtown and Joe McAlister of Arlington; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandsons.

Artie Gray Sherrill
BRECKENRIDGE -- Artie Gray Sherrill, 90, died Sunday in Fort Worth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morehart Mortuary funeral chapel with the Rev. Leo Brooks officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jerry Speer. Burial will be in Necessity Cemetery.
Mrs. Sherrill was born in Wayland, where she attended school, and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1928. She lived in Stephens County all her life and in the LaCasa community since 1949. She was a member of the Quilting Club at Bullock and New Hope Baptist Church No. 2. She married Omer Sherrill in 1940 in Graham; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one stepdaughter, Mrs. W.L. Lay of Merced, Calif.; four sisters, Mrs. Rayford Thompson of Breckenridge and Mrs. J.E. Perry, Leota Rogers and Mrs. Beauford Elston, all of Fort Worth; four stepgrandsons and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials to West Texas Rehabilitation Center or Meals on Wheels may be left at the funeral home.

Clara Mae Mathison Lasswell
BANGS -- Services for Clara Mae Mathison Lasswell, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Jimmy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.
Mrs. Lasswell was born in Weinert and lived in Sipe Springs before moving to Bangs in 1952. She moved to Brownwood in 1994 and back to Bangs in 1998. She worked for Brownwood Manufacturing Co. for about 25 years, retiring in 1981. She married James Albert Lasswell in 1935 in Comanche; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathryn Wagner of Bangs; two sons, Phillip Lasswell of Lufkin and James Lasswell of Stephenville; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Martha Connor
EL PASO -- Mary Martha Connor, 74, died Saturday.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery, directed by Blessing Funeral Home of Mansfield.
Mrs. Connor had lived in El Paso since 1958 and graduated from St. Gabriels in New Rochelle, N.Y., and El Paso Community College. She was a Catholic and a member of Gold Star Wives Club of America.
Survivors include three children, Terrance Connor of Manheim, Germany, Gail Baugh of Clyde and Douglas Connor of Mabank; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

BROWNWOOD -- W.E.F. "Frank" Bradley, 82, died Sunday in Brownwood.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Bradley and Jack Burke officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Bradley was born in Calvert and had lived in Brownwood for 65 years. He was retired from GTE and was a member of Toastmasters and the Pentecostal church. He married Lois Chamberlain in 1936 in Coleman County.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one son, Edward Bradley of Alba; two daughters, Mary Hager of Leslie, Mo., and Annita Rushing of Brownwood; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bennie Lee Bradford Holten
KNOX CITY -- Bennie Lee Bradford Holten, 76, of San Angelo and formerly of Foard County, died Monday at a San Angelo nursing home after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Crowell Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Holten was born in Thalia and was a homemaker and a certified dental assistant. She was a member of Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge and Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in San Angelo. She married Joseph Holten in 1975 in San Angelo.
Survivors include her husband, of San Angelo; two sons, Tim Ward of San Angelo and Chris Ward of Valley Springs, Calif.; one brother, John Bradford of Shawano, Wis.; one sister, Evelyn Balis of Knox City; six stepchildren, three grandchildren and 13 stepgrandchildren.
