Herman Lee Miller
STAMFORD -- Herman Lee Miller, 83, a lifetime resident of Jones County, died Monday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Highland Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.
Mr. Miller was born in Abilene. He was a former employee of Fosters Scrap Iron.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Hulse of Abilene; and three brothers, Ted Miller, Woodrow Miller and Henry Miller all of Stamford.

Hazel Josephine Lancaster
LAWN -- Hazel Josephine Lancaster, 59, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lancaster was born in Eskota. She married Alton Lancaster in 1967.
Survivors include her husband of Lawn; two daughters, Melissa Coxe of Tuscola and Reanell Lancaster of Lawn; two brothers, August Ray Whitton of Cleveland and Thomas Franklin Gilmore of Ovalo; two sisters, Tommie Bell Prather of Vidor and Froney Sarah Lancaster of Lawn; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

J.T. (John Thomas) Avants
COLEMAN -- J.T. (John Thomas) Avants, 85, of Santa Anna died Tuesday in a Bangs care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Carl Rohlfs and Kermit Sorrells officiating. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery, directed by Henderson Funeral Home.
Mr. Avants was born in Brown County and was a lifetime resident of Coleman County where he attended school. He married Lois Bryan in 1936 in Trickham. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Masonic Mountain Lodge 661 and Eastern Star. He was gin manager for the Santa Anna Co-op Gin for many years and a stockfarmer.
Survivors include his wife of Santa Anna; two sons, Melvin Avants of Baytown and Larry Avants of Brownwood; three sisters, Belle Farris and Annie McFarlin both of Coleman and Ella Mae Watson of Silsbee; two brothers, Aaron Avants of May and Charlie Avants of Gouldbusk; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 today at the funeral home.

Opal M. Simpkins
Opal M. Simpkins, 80, died Thursday in a local Hospital.
Services will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Simpkins was born in Van Zant County. She was the widow of O.B. Simpkins, whom she married in 1937 in Anson. She was a longtime area resident.
Survivors include one son, David Simpkins of Abilene; three daughters, Darlene Newman and Delores Towery both of Abilene and Vickie Waller of Evansville, Ind.; three sisters, Frances Widner and Jessie Chamblee both of Abilene and Bobbie Olsen of Stamford; twelve grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mary Frances Choate
ARLINGTON -- Mary Frances Choate, 83, of Abilene, died Thursday.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in the Alvord Cemetery.
Mrs. Choate was born in Apache, Okla. She married Charles D. "Bill" Choate. She taught school in Pantego and Duff. She was an honored retiree of Abilene Independent School District. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; one son, Dan Choate of Abilene; one sister, June Taylor Smith of Grand Prairie; and two grandchildren.

Jack Boyd Crawley
ODESSA -- Jack Boyd Crawley, 76, died Wednesday at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jim Hawk and Dorothy Fowler officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Simpson Cemetery in Kokomo, directed by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mr. Crawley was born in Eastland County and graduated from Gorman High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and flew a B-29 in the South Pacific. He received his Bachelor’s degree from South West Texas State University and his Master’s degree from the University of Houston. He was the widower of Helen J. Reid Crawley, whom he married in 1944 in Littlerock, Ark. He coached in Boling and Sweeney Independent School Districts prior to moving to Odessa where he coached at Ector High School and was head basketball coach at Permian High School. He became an Assistant Principal and retired from Ector County Independent School District.
He is survived by two brothers, C.W. Crawley and Harlen D. Crawley both of Arlington; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Linda Kay Eiland
BROWNWOOD -- Linda Kay Eiland, 51, of Bangs, died Saturday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bangs Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Ms. Eiland was born in Brownwood. She was a waitress and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include three daughters, Gina Powers Barnes of Brownwood, Heather Smalley and Amy Powers both of Bangs; one son, John Heatherly of Tacoma, Wash.; her mother, Nina K. Eiland of Bangs; one brother, Bobby Eiland of Blanco; and five grandchildren.

Doyle Lee Childress
STAMFORD -- Doyle Lee Childress, 86,a longtime Jones County resident, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.
Mr. Childress was born in Gilmer. He was the widower of Nina Keeling Childress, whom he married in 1932 in Texarkana, Ark. He worked as a pumper for 48 years. He was active in the Stamford V.I.P. Center, delivered meals on wheels and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Clayton Childress and Johnny Childress both of Childress and Truman Childress of Houston; one daughter, Wanda Ross of Hurst; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ola Irene Coffman
MUNDAY -- Ola Irene Coffman, 89, of Goree, died Wednesday in a local nursing center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Goree First Baptist Church with the Rev. Lenard Brothers officiating. Burial will be in Goree Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Coffman was the widow of Dude M. Coffman, whom she married in 1927 in Haskell. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was a ham radio operator.
Survivors include one sister, Pauline Howry of Yuma, Ariz.; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Linda Jean Coker Newman
EARLY -- Linda Jean Coker Newman, 55, of Brownwood, died Thursday in a local care center after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dan Wright officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
Ms. Newman was born in Brownwood where she attended school. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
She is survived by one son, Rickey Lee Coker of Brownwood; two daughters, Kimberly Jean Newman of Brownwood and April Chambers of Owens; her mother, Eula Allgood Coker of Brownwood; two brothers, Bobby Coker of Brownwood and Raymond Coker of Bangs; one sister, Billie Ballard of Brownwood; and four grandchildren.
