Andrew Marvin Stanford
STAMFORD -- Andrew Marvin Stanford, 89, died Friday in a local care center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Stanford was born in Waco and graduated from Stamford High School. He attended Texas Technological College. He was a World War II veteran. He retired in 1976 as the Stamford Postmaster with over 40 years of postal service. He was a member of the Brotherhood Sunday school class at Saint John’s United Methodist Church. His memberships included the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Federal Housing Board and Oldtimers Association of the Texas Cowboy Reunion.
Survivors include his wife, Eva Stanford of Stamford; one son, Eugene Stanford of Houston; one brother, Glenn Stanford of Lueders; one sister, Mary Wallace Bosse of Odessa; and two grandchildren.

Lois Marion Smith
BROWNWOOD -- Lois Marion Smith, 76,, died Thursday in her home.
Services were held on Saturday in the Greenleaf Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Camp officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born in Indianapolis, Ind. She was the widow of Marion Smith, whom she married in 1943 in Raytown, Mo. She was a clerk for the Veterans Administration and a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Phillip Smith of Brownwood; one daughter, Peggy Moore of Brownwood; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

JO ANN ‘RAE’ JOHNSTON
Jo Ann "Rae" Johnston, 64, a longtime resident of Abilene, died Sunday, February 14, 1999, in a local care center.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 1999, at Elmwood Funeral Home. The body will be cremated and a private graveside service will follow.
Ms. Johnston was born October 19, 1934, in Clyde, Texas, to Homer and Lyndall Connel. She attended schools in Clyde and Abilene. She worked for Vogue Beauty Salon as a beautician for several years. She was preceded in death by her parents and was the widow of Tom Johnston, whom she married in 1984 in Albany. She was a Methodist.
Survivors include four daughters, Paula Browning (and husband Larry) of Abilene, Lynda Rae of Abilene, Raye Ann Pyron (and husband Carl) of Tuscola and Faye Ann Childress (and husband Drew) of Abilene; six grandchildren, Lonnie Carlile, Stephanie Carlile, Garrett Strickland, Dillan Strickland, Mikaela Pyron and Micah Pyron; and five great-grandchildren.

Jerry Branson
ROBY -- Jerry Branson, 60, a longtime Roby resident, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Roby United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Ritter officiating. Burial will be in Roby Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Mr. Branson was born in Sayre, Okla., and graduated from Roby High School and Stephen F. Austin College. He graduated from Sul Ross University with a master’s degree and taught school for many years at Texas State Technical College and in Westbrook and Roby. He was the widower of Freda Jane Etheredge, whom he married in 1960 in Roby.
Survivors include one son, Jeff Branson of Katy; two daughters, Julie Galindo of San Angelo and Jill Ratcliffe of Katy; two brothers, John Branson of Roby and Cecil Branson Jr. of Katy; one sister, Mary Alice Shearer of Longview; and three grandchildren.

Sibyl Urban
EASTLAND -- Sibyl Urban, 95, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco with Gary Adams and Joe Wilson officiating, directed by Bakker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Urban was born in Rush Springs, Okla., and grew up in Oklahoma. She moved to Cisco in 1936 and to Eastland in 1950. She was a homemaker and a member of Daugherty Street Church of Christ. She married Francis Urban in 1921 in Duncan, Okla.; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Nell Sherman of Eastland, Melinda Patton of San Antonio and Tena Fox of Big Spring; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Carl Stoup
COLEMAN -- Carl Stoup, 81, died Sunday near Ballinger.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Coleman Cemetery.
Mr. Stoup was born in Cooke County and had lived in Coleman since 1923. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1937 and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a dairy farmer from 1951-1982 and served as an officer with AMPI and on the Mozelle school board. He married Ethelyn Hagler in 1946 in Hartford, Ala.; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn Flanagan of Ballinger, Connie Fryar of Eldorado and Kay Barclay of Austin; five sisters, Ruby Watters and Pearl Kile, both of Coleman, Dorothy Chastain of Denton, Margaret Wilson of Clyde and Peggy Jacobi of Fort Worth; two brothers, William Stoup and Alvie Stoup, both of Coleman; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Paul Richardson
BROWNWOOD -- Paul Richardson, 92, who managed Higginbotham Lumber Company for more than 40 years, died Saturday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Austin Avenue Church of Christ with Ted Kell and L.E. Jones officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Richardson was born in Stephenville and lived in Brownwood most of his life. After leaving Higginbotham Lumber, he managed Bowie Lumber Company for several years. He was a member, elder and deacon at Austin Avenue Church of Christ. He married Lucile Fleming in 1927 in Stephenville; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, Stanley Richardson of Lake Brownwood; two daughters, Carol Ann Coward of Bull Shoals, Ark., and Sandra Sue Edgar of Early; one brother, Charlie Richardson of California; two sisters, Nita Harper and Gladys Trewitt, both of Fort Worth; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Modess Burgess
GORMAN -- Modess Burgess, 82, died Sunday at a DeLeon hospital.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Craig Rhoton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clarence Wilson. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Burgess was born in Gorman and lived in the area all her life. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Rayford Burgess in 1937 in Gorman; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Durwood Burgess and Gary Burgess, both of Gorman; one daughter, Joyce Pence of Granbury; one brother, S.D. Gilmore of Gorman; one sister, Idell Warren of Gorman; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until service time today.

Edith Trapnell
BIG SPRING -- Edith Trapnell, 93, died Sunday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Paula Brooks officiating, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Mrs. Trapnell was born in Colorado City and moved to Big Spring in 1932 from Pulaski, Ga. She owned and operated Edmar Letter Service for several years. She was a member of First Christian Church and American Business Women’s Association. She married Rodney Trapnell in 1926 in Shreveport, La.; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Marshall and Sandra Head, both of Big Spring; one sister, Faye Burleson of Big Spring; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

David Lipscomb Riley Jr.
David Lipscomb Riley Jr., 87, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Coleman Cemetery with the Rev. Vance Roberts officiating, directed by North’s Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Mr. Riley was born in Coleman County and was a retired rancher from the Cross Cut area. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He married Emma Audra Newton in 1963 in Coleman; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, David Lee Riley of Abilene; one brother, Jenkie Riley of Eden; one sister, Zula Schmidt of Abilene; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-7:30 p.m. today.
