ARMSTRONG
Graveside services for William Armstrong, 82 of Gladewater were held on Friday, February 11, 3:00 p.m. at the DeLeon Cemetery in DeLeon, Texas. Mr. Armstrong was born on September 16, 1917 and passed away February 8, 2000 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was a retired rancher and was known for his ranching success in Falfurrias. Survivors include his wife, Morene Armstrong; daughters, DeLois Smith, Billie Sprigg and Micki Davis; one sister, Geraldine Browning; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. He was loved and will be missed.

BOEN
Charlene Carrie Boen, age 81, of Desdemona, Texas passed away on Friday, January 7, 2000 in Canterbury Villa Nursing Home in DeLeon. Mrs. Boen was born on May 13, 1918 in Carbon, Texas to Ira Tucker and Gustava Tucker. She married Thomas J. Boen in DeLeon, Texas on June 28, 1939. Mrs. Boen was a homemaker and a member of the Desedmona Church of Christ. Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 9, 2000 at 2:30 p.m. at the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel in DeLeon, with Glen Boyd officiating the services and the Church of Christ choir provided the music. Pallbearers were Kirk Boen, Brodie Boen, Don Fields, Jack Fields, Jeff Fields and John Cook. Burial was in the DeLeon Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, T. J. Boen of Desdemona; one son Harold Boen and wife Karen of Dedemona; one daughter, Winnie Fields and husband Terry Fields of DeLeon; two brothers, Wayne Tucker of Arlington and Winston Tucker of Odessa; four sisters, Naomi Allen of Fort Worth, Alma Nance of Roswell, N. M., Ona Broughton of Dinuba, CA, and Dora Holland of Desdemona; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

BOLIN
Guyla Marie Bolin, age 77, of Mesquite, Texas passed away on Friday, February 18, 2000 at her residence in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on April 20, 1922 in Gustine, Texas to Guy and Robert White. For twenty years Mrs. Bolin and her husband owned and operated Bolin's Drive-in Grocery Store in Seven Points, Texas. She was a Baptist. Mrs. Bolin was married to Arley B. Bolin on January 13, 1940 in Comanche, Texas. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1999. She is survived by son, Ronnie Mack Bolin, of Mesquite; son Mickey Lynn Bolin, of Seven Points; son Lany Guy Bolin of Mesquite; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Bolin of Sanger; sister, Ronda Huey of Gustine. She was preceded in death by son, Tony Bolin, on November 27, 1995; four brothers, Mickey White, Guy White, Harwood White and Clyde White, and two sisters, Bonnie Tony and Doris Parker. Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 20, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Comanche County.

BURGESS
Jorsey Lee Burgess, age 98, of Granbury, Texas, formerly of Comanche, Texas passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2000 at Granbury Care Center in Granbury, Texas. She was born on August 18, 1901 in Mobile, Alabama to Isaac Monroe Williams and Beulah (Barringtine) Williams. She was a member of the Gartman View Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Burgess was married to Julian L. Burgess on May 8, 1920 in Atoka, Oklahoma. She is survived by her daughter, Irene Arwin, of Granbury; daughter, Evelyn Dolbertry of Comanche; daughter, Annette Hicks of Pineville, Louisiana; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; sister, Myrtle Carter of Muleshoe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian L. Burgess in 1972, one daughter, Inez Burgess, one son, Orville Burgess, two brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 21, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Donald Bean officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, Texas with Comanche Funeral Home in charge.

CHICK
Mary Lynn Chick, treasured daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and most of all friend to all who knew her. Mary Lynn went home on January 6, 2000 to be with her husband "Chick" who preceded her in death. Mary Lynn was born in Comanche, Texas on January 12, 1935 to George and "Peggy" Willis. Mary Lynn had 3 children and on November 10, 1974 married the love of her life. Mary Lynn owned Mine Tosch, a dress shop in Dallas and after her husband's death in 1983 she owned and operated JP Interiors, a construction company in Dallas. While being a career woman, she managed to raise 3 loving children. Her courage and strength to the very end serves as an inspiration to us all. Mary Lynn's love for family and friends was evident in her every act. She will be missed and remembered always. Mary Lynn is survived by her mother, Peggy Willis; three children, Jana Harris and husband Charlie, John Morris and wife Stefanie, Jimmy Morris and wife Angela; step children, Sonny Chick and wife Pat, Darla Brodsky and husband Fred, and Joe Chick and wife Janet; eight grandchildren, Kara Gearner, Kam Emig, Kevin, Courtney and Kyla Morris, and Audra Ethan and Kendra Morris; four step-grandchildren, Wes and Joe Chick and Tracey and Brian Chick; sister, Joyce Ann Ellis and husband Carl; brother, Tommy Willis and wife, Vicky and a long list of loving friends. Mary Lynn is preceded in death by her father, George Willis, husband W. H. Chick, and brothers, David and Robert Willis. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 4:00 p.m. at Memorial Chapel, Restland Funeral Home. CHRISTOPHER
Charles Dudley Christopher, age 82, of DeLeon, Texas passed away Friday, January 7, 2000 in the DeLeon Hospital. He was born on November 6, 1917 in Walnut Springs, Texas to the late Dudley Christopher and Lucy Hail Christopher. Mr. Christopher married Hawtence Rucker in DeLeon, Texas on August 16, 1938. He was formerly a manager of Good Luck Oil Company in Ft. Worth and had been a resident of DeLeon for several years. The body was cremated. Survivors include three sons, Donald Christopher of DeLeon; Michael Christopher of Durant, Oklahoma, and Sidney Christopher of Ft. Worth; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hawtence Christopher in 1996.

COX
Elna Maurine Cox, age 92 years, of Comanche, Texas passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at Comanche Community Hospital in Comanche, Texas. She was born on March 20, 1907 in Johnson County, Texas, to William G. Ellis and Jennie (Harris) Ellis. Mrs. Cox was a homemaker and a member of East Side Baptist Church. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Joy Makers Band and Eastern Star. Mrs. Cox was married to Willie Cox on November 10, 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1977. She is survived by son, Billy Troy Cox, Lake Livingston, Texas; two grandchildren; sister Nell Killgore, Fort Worth, Texas; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on January 7, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. at the graveside with Bro. Buck Landingham officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche, Texas with Comanche Funeral Home in charge.

EASLEY
Pat Easley, age 68, of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 in Memorial Medical Center, New Orleans, LA. She was born on January 7, 1931 in Amarillo, Texas to Willine Ozella Hart Fletcher and Lowery Fletcher. She married Jack W. Easley on June 7, 1948 in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Easley was a former owner of a fabric and interior design store in Morgan City, LA. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University, member of First Baptist Church in New Orleans and member order Eastern Star in Oklahoma. Funeral services were held on January 7, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in DeLeon with Bro. Tom Satterwhite officiating and Pattie Bacon and Beth Riggs providing the music. Burial followed in the DeLeon Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home. Pallbearers were her nephews. Survivors include her husband, Jack Easley of New Orleans and one son, James Easley of New Orleans. She was preceded in death by one brother, Thurman Fletcher, and her parents, Lowery and Winnie Easley.

GRESSETT
Graveside funeral services for Clinton Claude Gressett of Comanche, Texas, age 87, were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2000 at Suggs Cemetery in Comanche County under the direction of Hall & Sons Funeral Home in Comanche with Bill Gressett, a cousin, officiating. Mr. Gressett passed away February 17, 2000 in Covenant Health Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born July 4, 1912 in the Suez Community of Comanche County. He moved to Leveland, Texas in 1929. He married Mary Alice Kennedy on November 29, 1934. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1997. He was a retired trucker and service station operator. He moved from Comanche to Leveland in 1987 following his retirement. Survivors include son, Gary and Pam Gressett of Lakewood, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Buddy Sexton, daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Chris Bigan of Round Rock, Texas; four brothers, Jim of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Conner and Tom, both of Comanche, and Phil of Leveland; two sisters, Winnie Fowler and Pearl Hall, both of Leveland; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

GRISHAM
Gene Grisham, age 78, of DeLeon, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2000 in Hendrick Medical Center, Abilene, Texas. She was born on December 24, 1921 in Downing, Texas to the late Bennie E. Belyeu and Arlie Young Belyeu. Mrs. Grisham married John E. Grisham in Rucker, Texas on December 23, 1939. She was a graduate of Howard Payne University, and was retired from Texas Department of Human Services. She was a member of Gorman Chapter Order Eastern Star, and DeLeon Chapter Order Eastern Star and the DeLeon Garden Club. She was a member of St. Joe Baptist Church and a homemaker. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the DeLeon First Baptist Church with Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Jerry Solomon, Don Brown, Pat Brown, Ruby Solomon and Beth Riggs will be providing the music. Burial will follow in the DeLeon Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, John E. Grisham of DeLeon; one son, Kerry E. Grisham of DeLeon; three daughters, Joyce O'Donald, Sharon Barker and Kathy Morgan, all of DeLeon; one brother, Harold Belyeu of DeLeon; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

HIGGINBOTTOM
Norma Higginbottom, age 93, of DeLeon, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2000 in the DeLeon Hospital. She was born on April 16, 1906 in Comanche County, Texas to the late Alvin and Mae Bunting. Mrs. Higginbottom was ahomemaker and had been a resident of the DeLeon area all of her life. She married Marcell Higginbottom on June 23, 1923. She was a member of DeLeon First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held on February 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the DeLeon First Baptist Church with Tom Satterwhite officiating. Patti Bacon and Martha Bunting provided the music. Pallbearers were Bruce Skaggs, W. A. Skaggs, Rocky Bunting, Roger Dale George, L. E. Singleton, Albert Skaggs, Darrell Rogers, Cyril Keith. Burial followed in the DeLeon Cemetery. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and DeLoyn Singleton of DeLeon; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bascom and Betty Higginbottom of Granbury and Harold Gene and Charlotte Higginbottom of DeLeon; three sisters, Elsie Skaggs of DeLeon, Buena Pressley of Dublin and Ruth George of Dublin; seven grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Higginbottom was also preceded in death by two brothers, Travis Bunting and Ray Bunting.

JAMAR
Truman A. Jamar, age 77, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2000 at Shannon Memorial Hospital in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on August 10, 1922, in Beattie, Texas, to Henry Jamar and Gertrude (Singleton) Jamar. Mr. Jamar was a retired postal worker. He was a Baptist and a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Navy during WWII. In 1947 he was united in marriage to Mozelle Whitehead, in Comanche County, Texas. He is survived by wife, Mozelle Jamar, San Angelo, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Carolyn Jamar, Brownwood, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Larry Christian, Gilmer, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Bill Hasty, San Angelo, Texas; granddaughter, Tammy S wanner, Gilmer, Texas; granddaughter, Melanie Player, Gilmer, Texas; granddaughter Amy Dugger, Gilmer: Texas; grandson, Eric Hasty, San Angelo, Texas; granddaughter, Misty Minnix, San Angelo, Texas; grandson Cody Hasty, San Angelo, Texas; grandson, Michael Jamar, Roundrock, Texas; grandson, David Jamar, San Angelo, Texas; seven great-grand-children; sister Estellee De Witt, Goldthwaite, Texas; sister, Dollie Gandy, Odessa, Texas. JENKINS
Catherine Jenkins, age 78 of Denton, passed away ather residence Monday, February 14, 2000. She was born to 0. 0. and Lou Nettie Blanton, February 26, 1921 in Mt. Airy, Texas. She married Jack E. Jenkins on April 2, 1944 in Erath County, Texas. He preceded her in death in 1996. Mrs. Jenkins was a graduate of Tarleton State College, a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church, Women's Missionary Union, President of Girls Auxiliary and a teacher. She was a member of Greater Denton/Wise County Association of Realtors, past President of Womens Councils of Realtors, and past President of National and Texas Association of Realtors. She currently owned Catherine Jenkins Really Company. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 17, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. in the Grace Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Donovan Davidson officiating. Burial was held at 3:00 p.m. in the DeLeon Cemetery in DeLeon, Texas. Pallbearers were Rusty White, Clint Sheperd, John Wayne Shepherd, Richard Coan, Travis Page, and Casey Stone. Survivors include three daughters, Janet Seeligson of Dallas, Linda Page of Highland Village, and Debra Khoury of Denton; one son, Jack E. Jenkins, Jr. of Denton; two sisters, Ozella Farris of Dublin and Modelle Coan of Decatur; one brother, Benjamine Johnny Blanton of Dublin; seven granchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JONES
J. L. Jones, age 85, of Comanche, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 17, 2000 at Comanche Community Hospital in Comanche, Texas. He was born on March 26, 1914 in Mason, Texas to George Washington Jones and Roxie Alice Jones. From 1965 until 1975, J. L. Jones, together with his wife, Betty, owned and operated the Chief Dry Cleaners in Comanche. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. Mr. Jones was married to Betty Lusk on February 14, 1947 in Brownwood, Texas. Wyoma Jones passed away at 5:55 am. Wednesday, January 19, 2000, in the Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Wyoma was born on February 10, 1940, the daughter of the late Joe M. and Rizella Caffey. She was married to Floyd Oliver Janes July 29, 1966. He preceded her in death May 23, 1982. Wyoma had lived in Comanche since 1979 having moved from Abilene, Texas. She was a deed clerk in the Comanche County Appraisal District Tax Office. Wyoma was a member of the East Side Baptist Church in Comanche. She is survived by one daughter; Stacey Aguerro and husband; Dominic of Comanche; two sons, Terry Jones and wife, Kathy of Stephenville, and Roger Weathersby and wife, Sue of Wilmer, Georgia; one sister, Darla McKinnon and husband, James of Abilene and nine grandchildren. Funeral services for Wyoma Jean Jones were held on Saturday, January 22, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hall & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Longoria officiating. Burial followed in the family cemetery in Sipe Springs.

Freda Zerita "Craig" Lacy, age 93, of Comanche, Texas, passed away Monday, February, 14, 2000, at the Comanche Community Hospital in Comanche, Texas. She was born on November 7, 1906, in St. Joseph, Missouri to Thomas Craig and Cora Parrish Craig. She was a member of the Sidney Baptist Church and a homemaker. Mrs. Lacy was married to Maxwell "Max" Dean Lacy on December 1, 1924. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Roy Tackett, Comanche; son and daughter-in-law, Parnell and B arbara Lacy, Denton; son, Reggie Lacy, Dallas; five grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell "Max" Dean Lacy on March 15, 1981 and by her parents, three sisters, two brothers, and one granddaughter. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 at 2:00p.m. at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond Jones and Rev. Donald Bean officiating. Burial will be in the Stag Creek Cemetery in Comanche County, Texas with Comanche Funeral Home in charge.

MCCLELLAN
La Rue McClellan, age 86, of Littleton, Colorado passed away on February, 18, 2000 in Littleton, Colorado. She was born on June 3, 1913 in Bale, Texas to the late Lemuel McClintock and Geneva Mamie Jeffrey McClintock. She married Pete McClellan on December 28, 1936 in Rankin, Texas. He preceded her in death on September 10, 1997. Funeral services will be held at the graveside in DeLeon Cemetery on Saturday, February 26, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Jackie Auvenshine officiating. Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Goodwin and her husband Jeff of Evergreen, Colorado, and Judy Gober and her husband, Paul of Littleton, Colorado: one sister, Ruby Gentry of Tyler, Texas: five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

MOORE
Loren R. Moore, age 66, of DeLeon, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2000 at his residence. He was born on May 16, 1933 in Roby, Texas to the late Willie Robbins Moore and Myrtle Maybelle Morgan Moore. He was a former Vice-President for Chapman Construction Company and had been employed with Prime Star TV Cable Service. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during World War II, and had lived in DeLeon eleven years, coming from Carrollton, Texas and was a Methodist. He was married to Patsy Branstetter in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on May 19, 1955. Funeral services for Mr. Moore were held on Monday, February 21, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Ray Seckinger officiating and LaRessie, Rowdy and Nicky Wilkerson, and Vicki Robinett providing the music. Burial followed in the DeLeon Cemetery Pallbearers were Kent B oswell, Lannes Callison, Bill Smith, Robert Roberson, Richard Stewart, and Jerry Stewart. Honorary pallbearers were Norman Park, Lane McGee, Gayle McGinnis, Joe Shoemaker, Charles Chupp, Robert Moore, Fuzzy Robertson, and Wayne Otwell. Survivors include his wife, Patsy Moore of DeLeon; one son, Johnny Robbins (Robbin) Moore of DeLeon; one daughter, Lorena Gay (Banjo) Moore of Ft. Worth; one brother, Louie Moore of San Antonio; one sister, Leatha Merle Turner of Breckenridge.

MORGAN
Howard Wayne Morgan, age 55, of Euless, Texas passed away on January 9, 2000 at a Dallas hospital. Mr. Morgan was born on August 6, 1944 in Belton, Texas to Howard Lee and Lena Jean Morgan. He married Dell Smith in Fort Worth, Texas on February 8, 1968. Mr. Morgan was employed as a printer for Padgett Printing Company in Dallas and had resided in Euless for 4 1/2 years, coming from Washington State. He was a Protestant. Funeral services were held on Monday, January 10, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jackie Auvenshine and Vicki Robinett providing the music. Pallbearers were Dennis Doyle, Bill De Poy, Roger Howard, Jerry Groh, Todd Hogan, and Blane McMillian. Burial was in the DeLeon Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Dell Morgan of Euless; two sons, Lance Morgan of Dallas and Brian Morgan of Euless.

PELL
Mamie Pell, age 95, of DeLeon passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2000 in the Golden Age Manor Nursing Home, Dublin, Texas. She was born on July 9, 1904 in Erath County, Texas to the late Samuel David Strong and Mamie Dora Kiker Strong. She married Pete Pell in Comanche, Texas on February 23, 1924. Mrs. Pell was a homemaker and had resided in the Comyn area all of her life. She was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the graveside in the DeLeon Cemetery with Ray Seckinger officiating. Survivors include one son, Bobby Pell of Edinburg, Texas; two brothers, Sam Strong and Dalton Strong, both of Lubbock; two sisters, Holly Mohon of DeLeon and Sarah Dudney of Comanche; two granddaughters, Sherry Hewitt of Bastrop and Amy Anderson of Denver, CO., and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Pell was also preceded in death by her husband, Pete Pell on February 28, 1964 and by one sister, Willie Caraway.

SADBERRY
J. C. Sadberry, age 82, of DeLeon passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2000 in the DeLeon Hospital. He was born on November 2, 1917 in Comanche County, Texas to the late John W. and Maggie Coker Sadberry. Mr. Sadberry married Thelma Champion in DeLeon, Texas on September 8, 1934. He was a retired farmer and former salesman for Golden Oak Milling Company. He was a lifelong resident of the DeLeon area and was a member of Morton Chapel Methodist Church. Funeral services for Mr. Sadberry were held on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Schmidt officiating and Kenneth Wilson assisting. Music was provided by LaRessie Wilkerson and Vicki Robinett. Pallbearers were John Ray Johnson, Bill Wilkerson, Tommy Ashley, Otis Earl Sadberry, Jerry Neely, Bill Smith, C. M. Sadberry, both of DeLeon; two daughters, Nadine Kea and Charlotte Coan, both of DeLeon; one sister, Edith Brownlee of DeLeon; grandchildren, Alan Sadberry, Rhonda Pruitt, Carla Mathews, Penny Fronterhouse, Polly Snow, Carolyn Fischer, Ricci Coan, Lana Barefoot, Cassandra Coan, Jill Cleere, Russell Sadberry, Adam Sadberry, and Maggie Thayer; great-grandchildren, Raesha, Braxton, Auston, Josh, MaKenzie, Terra, Jackson, Leslie, Ashley, Vince, Kristin, Lance, McKenzie, Mitch, Jodi, Jordan, Darian, Brent, Paige, Zach, Tye, and Eathan; great-great-grandchildren, Tayln, Maranda, and Hannah. Mr. Sadberry was preceded in death by four brothers, Emmett Sadberry, Glen Sadberry, Jack Robinett, Earl Sadberry: two sisters, Ethel Gilder and Delphia Robinett, and one great-granddaughter, Shenna Shupp.

SIMMONS
Funeral services for Maurice C. Simmons, age 81, of Early and formerly of Andrews, were held at 10:00 am. Monday at the Early Church of Christ, with Donnie Carroll officiating. Graveside services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday at Andrews City Cemetery at Andrews, Texas. Interment followed under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. Mr. Simmons was born on June 18, 1918 at San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Mark and Loura Simmons. He graduated from DeLeon High School in 1939, and published several stories in the DeLeon Messenger. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corp., during WWII, serving as Staff Sergeant Flight Chief in the 545th squadron. He was a member and former elder of the Early Church of Christ and was also a member of the Early Lions Club. He was the retired owner/operator of Simmons Furniture and Appliance Store in Andrews. He served as mayor of Andrews from 1977 to 1980, and was the voice of Andrews Trading Post Radio KACT. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Order of Kentucky Colonel, and was an avid fan of the Texas High School Football. Mr. Simmons married Marie Vinson on July 27, 1942 at Ranger, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Marie Simmons of Early; son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Joellen Simmons of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Richard Templeton of Georgetown; two sisters, Wanda Shumake of Fort Worth and Gene Tucker of Fort Worth; four grandchildren, Brandon Templeton, Killiann Templeton, both of Georgetown, Jimmy Simmons of Austin and Johnny Simmons of New Braunfels. Preceding him in death were his parents, a twin sister, Doris Evalyn, and two brothers, Bob and Ben Ray Simmons.

SMITH
Marie Friday Smith passed away on January 8, 2000 at her Midland residence. She was born on October 24, 1928 in Gorman, Texas to Jewell Snider and Maggie Hamilton Snider. She was raised in Gorman and graduated from Ranger Nursing Academy. She was a Registered Nurse having worked in Gorman and Midland. She was also employed by Allied Van Lines, Salvation Army, and later in life, by Nurses Unlimited. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in Higginbothams Funeral Home in Gorman, Texas. Midland arrangements were with Ellis Funeral Home. Survivors include her husband, Bennie Smith of Alabama; twin sons, Bobby Friday of Midland and Billy Friday of Beaumont; sons Richard Friday of Texarkansas, Texas and Jerry Friday of Lawrenceville, Georgia; her father Jewell Snider of Gorman; two brothers, Kenneth Snider of Rosebud, Arkansas and Larry Snider of Gorman, Texas; sisters, Treva Green of Midland, Maude Isbell and Peggy Ingram of Cisco, Texas, and Diana Snider of Gorman; nine grandchildren, eight grandchildren and numerous step-children and step-grandchildren. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her first husband, Jed Friday, her mother, Maggie Snider and brother, Tommy Snider; one daughter, Vickie Friday and one granddaughter, Charlotte Friday.

STAILEY
Ottis D. "Tot" Stailey, age 93, of Comanche passed away Sunday, February 13, 2000 in the Comanche Community Hospital. Mrs. Stailey was born July 24, 1906 in Sidney, Texas, die daughter of the late Lewis and 011ie Jackson Weaver. She married Garvin Stailey August 10, 1929. He preceded her in death May 19, 1985. She was a homemaker and a member of the Sidney Methodist Church in Sidney, Texas. Mrs. Stailey is survived by one daughter, Jean Rippetoe and husband Dean of Midland, Texas and one son, Borden Stailey and wife, Kay of Mesa, Arizona; two granddaughters, Kaye Cowden and husband Holt of Midland and Julie Stailey of Arlington, Texas; two great-grandsons, Courtney and Chris Holt of Midland. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jim Stailey and one sister, George Anna Stowe and one brother, W. T. Weaver.

VAN SCOY

A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, gave up a valiant, life-long fight with polio Friday, February 4, 2000, at a Fort Worth hospital. She sold Tupperware and Avon for many years and never allowed her disability to interfere with her quest for quality of life. She never knew a stranger. She attended Metroplex Family Worship Center and Lakeside Church of God where her services were held on Monday, February 7, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. She was interred beside her mother in Desdemona Cemetery at 3 p.m. on the same day. Mrs. Van Scoy was preceded in death by her mother, Naomi Echols, and grandfather H. H. Echols, Sr. and brother. Roland Cook. Survivors include her loving husband, Ed Van Scoy of Burleson; son, Ed Van Scoy, Jr. and wife Geri of Burleson; Chris Van Scoy and wife, Amanda of Fort Worth; father, Harvey Echols and wife, Lurline of Azle; brothers, Roy Echols and wife, Nancy, of Weatherford; Guy Echols and wife, Sue, of Azle; Jimmy Cook and wife Caro, of Azle; sister Linda Echols of Fort Worth; grandmother, Benton Echols of Desdemona; mother-in-law, Ellie Van Scoy of Burleson; three grandsons, numerous aunts, uncles, and family, who will miss her very much. Arrangements were handled under the direction of Benbrook Funeral Home.

WARREN
Duward "D.B." Warren, age 87, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2000 in the DeLeon Hospital. Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 8, 2000 at the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Clyde Dodd officiating. Burial followed in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Gorman. Mr. Warren was born May 4, 1912 in Comanche County to Coy and Jimmie (Donaldson) Warren. He married Idell Gilmore on December 26, 1939 in Eastland. He had been a farmer in the Gorman area for many years and active in the Farmers Union. Mr. Warren had been a member of the board of directors for Southwestern Peanut Growers Association for 36 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a graduate of Duster High School. Survivors include his wife, Idell Warren of Gorman; two sons, Jerry Warren of Rankin and Wesley Warren of Gorman; two daughters, Ann Warren of Gorman and Kay Womack of Coppell; five sisters, Laverne Hamilton of Atlanta, Georgia, Winnie Dodd of Lometa, Nell Brush of DeLeon, Genese Vestal of Pasadena, Texas, Merlene Stegall of Goldthwaite; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, three brothers, and a grandson.

WILLIAMS
Hallie Beth Williams, age 90, of Gorman, passed away Friday, February 18, 2000 in the Glen Rose Medical Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2000 in the Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. James and Lavelle Haynes, Rev. Jim Hatcher and Rev. Victor Pena officiating. Burial will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery. Mrs. Williams was born August 12, 1909 in Hamlin to Marcellus and Siddie (Martin) Scales. She married Wilber Williams on October 12, 1931 in Stephenville. He preceded her in death on March 6, 1992. She retired in 1976 as an elementary school teacher having taught in Seagoville, Southlake Carroll and Walnut Springs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Gorman. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Williams of Glen Rose and Mary Sue Leach of Glen Rose; one nephew and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
