Gail A. Alessi, 95, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2002, at Turner Geriatric Center.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 25th, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church with Father William Bartniski as Celebrant. Burial will follow the service at Grace Memorial Park in Alta Loma.
The family will receive visitors after 5:00 PM, Thursday, January 24th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary and vigil service will be held at 7:00 PM with Father William Bartniski and Rev. Ray Pinard officiating.
Gail was born September 6, 1906, in Elba Island, Italy. He immigrated to the United States in 1925 and arrived in Galveston in 1931. He owned and operated Alessi's Grocery Store for many years. He later worked as a construction painter until his retirement in 1972. Gail was of the Catholic faith.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Rose S. Alessi; and two brothers: Giovanni Alessi and Louis E. Alessi.
Gail is survived by his son, Joseph G. Alessi and his wife, Margie, of Galveston; granddaughters: Anita Prendergast, Kathi Ashy and husband, Ron, and Karen Hart and husband, Tod; great granddaughters: Kari Prendergast, Megan Ryan, Kathryn Ashy, and Stephanie Hart; sister, Guiseppina Alessi; and brother, Addasio Alessi, both of Elba Island, Italy.
Pallbearers will be Louis Alessi, Jr., Ronald Ashy, Tod Hart, Philip Lipoma, Donald Robertson, and Gale Lee Robertson.
The family would like to thank the 2nd floor staff of Turner Geriatric Center for their devoted loving care and support during Gail's residency, especially Mary Jo, Miss Ethel, Theresa, and Rebecca. Mrs. Patricia I. (Patti) Alvers passed from this life Monday morning, December 2, 2002 in Texas City.
Born July 17, 1941 in Nashville, TN, Mrs. Alvers had been a resident of Dickinson for seven years, previously a long time resident of Santa Fe. A member of Solid Rock Church, she had been a self-employed entrepreneur.
Patti had a ministry Helping and feeding the homeless in Houston and was known as a very giving person, always helping others.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Alvers of Dickinson; children and their spouses, Robert William and Teresa Alvers of Texas City, Brenda Marie and Darrell Hingle of Santa Fe, Stephanie Elaine Carbajal of Pasadena, Angela Lynn and James Newlin of Dickinson, Pamela Michele and Jason Porter of Dickinson, LaTricia Lea and Ehren Hertenberger of Texas City; brothers, Bill, Mark and John Hanbery; aunt, Emma McCoy of TN; 16 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 4, 2002, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Shirley Shotwell officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Giuseppe Sant'Ambrogio, M.D. died last Friday, October 4, 2002. He was born in Milano, Italy in 1931. He moved to Galveston in 1975 to work in the Department of Physiology at UTMB, where he is professor Emeritus.
He is sadly missed by his wife Franca, daughter Sara, son Giorgio with wife Janise and grandchildren Mia and Marco, and his son Paolo with wife Heidi. Giuseppe will always be remembered for his intelligence, kindness, gentleness and humbleness. He was very dedicated to his family and to his work in research.
He also enjoyed jogging and regularly participated in fun runs. The family wishes to thank the loving care of the nurses and staff of Turner Geriatric Center were he spent the last year of his life, as well as nurses and staff of the Hospice Care Team, Inc.

Born November 25, 1924 in Boyce, Louisiana to Cleve Harris and Rosie McNeil Harris, Mrs. Anders was a Lab Technician at UTMB Hospital with 47 years of service. She was a faithful mother and sister, and of the Christian faith.

Andy was born February 1, 1930, in Dukedom, Kentucky. He was a resident of Galveston for 53 years, working as a crane operator along the Galveston Wharves for over 43 years. Andy enjoyed fishing, managing his rent properties, and he lived for his family and friends. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Harmony Lodge #6.
Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Claud and Ollie Anderson; brothers: James Anderson, M. C. Anderson, Wayne Anderson, and Delbert Anderson.

Anderson was held on Thursday, July 25, 2002, Holy Rosary Catholic Church with father Joseph Onuoha, officiating. Interment followed at Calvary catholic Cemetery in Galveston.
Visitation was held July 24, 2002, between 6-7:00 p.m. at the Holy Rosary Church and a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. was followed by her favorite religious songs
Mary was born July 15, 1917, in Galveston, Texas. She was a housewife for several years, devoting her time to take care of her family. She decided later in life to pursue culinary skills by catering to families in the community and at St. Mary's Cathedral, where she catered to Bishop Bernes and the priest at the residence. She also furthered her talent by taking on the task of chef at the first Luby s Cafeteria.
Mary Bernice Anderson was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church. She was a devoted mother; who instill respect, honesty and dedication to her nine children. Her strength and determination will always remain in the hearts of everyone she met. God gently reached out to her on Friday, July 19, 2002, at her residence and took her to her heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Maceo Anderson; parents, John and Philomene Oakey Clay; daughter Josephine Merida; stepson, Sammy Anderson; sisters, Cecilia Rhodes, Elnora Johnican; and brother, Joseph Marshall; granddaughter Bernice
Westbrook and grandson Danny Evans. Theresa was born July 17, 1905, in Galveston, Texas, and was a lifelong resident of the island. She enjoyed sewing, which she called her "handiwork" and she was well known for her specialty baby items, quilts, and beautiful embroidery pieces. Theresa also loved her two pet cats. She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lytton William Appenbrink.
Theresa is survived by her niece, Ruth Cox, whom she raised, of Clear Lake; great niece, Denise Wolff and husband, Michael, of Charleston, S. C.; great nephew, Russell Cox and wife, Mary Jo, of Galveston; great great nephews, Jeremiah Wolff, of Charleston, S. C.; Terry L. Rigoberto was born February 28, 1971, in Tocoa Colon, Honduras. He worked as a cook for most of his life, as an employee at the Yacht Club and the Moody Gardens Hotel. He recently changed his occupation and became a welder for First Wave Marine. Rigoberto was an avid soccer fan and enjoyed working out and staying fit. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Maricela Aragon Barrientos; and his cousin, Peter B. Rodriguez.

Ursula was born November 2, 1913, in Galveston, Texas. She grew up on the island and loved to play softball with her sisters. She married Placid Arena and worked at both the Martini Theater and Lopez Jewelry Store for many years, continuing to work part-time even after her retirement. Ursula's love of sports continued throughout her life, as she was an avid sports fan, watching all kinds of sports on television. She also loved to play bridge and raise tomatoes. Ursula was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Ursula is preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Placid Arena, and her brothers, Alfred Magliolo and Joseph Magliolo, Sr.
She is survived by her sisters, Rose Mary Hanson, of Galveston; Mary Elizabeth Napoli, of Friendswood, Grace Marie Brick and husband, William Jerry, Sr., of Galveston; and sisters-in-law, Dolores Magliolo and Eunice Magliolo, both of Galveston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Arena's nephews. Albert DiBella will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Born April 4, 1924 in Ranson, Illinois to Charles and Martha Austino. Mr. Austino was a retired member of the Century Club with 43 years ofservice at Lipton Tea Co. where he worked as a building supervisor and was ofthe Lutheran faith.

Walter Johnston Bach, Jr., 74, of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at UTMB Hospital.

Walter was born March 17, 1928, in Weslaco, Texas. He was a resident of Galveston County for 15 years. Walter served his country with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He attended the University of Texas and later received his Doctorate from the University of Houston. He worked as an
optometrist for many years until his retirement. Walter was a member of the Optometrist's Association and a lifetime member of the AFAM Weslaco Lodge.
Walter is survived by his wife of 42 years, Olga Bach, of Galveston; daughter, Katherine Faye Wright, of Houston; sons, Charles Edward Bach and wife, Duane, of Houston; and Michael Paul Bach, of Richland, Washington; brothers, William Richard Bach, of Austin, Texas; and Darrell Edward Bach and wife, Garlene, of San Antonio; six grandchildren: Joshua Bach, Zachary Bach, Skylar Bach, Vicki Reed, Leaann Twilley, and Richard Schultz; one great granddaughter, Chelsea Twilley; his "man's best friend," Max; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Robert Albert (Bob) Bahr, Sr., 90, passed from this life at his home on Wednesday, October 16, 2002.
Born January 24, 1912 in Alta Loma, Mr. Bahr semi-retired in 1958 after many years as General Superintendent with Texas Gulf Construction Co. Mr.
Bahr was over the construction of the first Galveston County Memorial Hospital in 1950 and has been in the Carpenter's Local # 526 for over 68
years. He lived the majority of his life in Santa Fe before moving to Delhi where he lived for 17 years before returning to his home in Santa
Fe in 1999. Mr. Bahr has lived a very long and prosperous life and will be truly missed.
Preceded in death by his parents, Celestine and William Bahr; his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Bahr; brothers, Raymond, Edward and Alfred Bahr and his
sister, Clara Siller, survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christine Bahr; daughter, Doris Bahr; grandchildren, Russell, Janet
and Gary Ryan, Michael Bahr and Vicki Douglas; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Jane was born January 9, 1917, in Henshaw, Kentucky. She attended elementary and high school in the Henshaw, Kentucky area. She graduated from the School of Nursing at St. Mary's Hospital, Sisters of Charity St. Vincent De Paul at Evansville, Indiana in 1938. She also did a pediatric affiliation at Children's Hospital in Akron, Ohio. After graduating from St. Mary's Hospital, she was a supervisor and performed private duty nursing. She entered the Army Nurse Corps in 1940 and was stationed at Fitzsimmons General Hospital in Denver, Colorado and Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii, Territory of Hawaii. After leaving the Army Nurse Corps in 1942-1944, she worked at Colorado General at the University of Colorado in Denver, Colorado. She married the late Dr. Elwood E. Baird and they moved to Galveston, Texas, where he accepted a position at the University of Texas Medical Branch. Jane sponsored the Medical Dames 1950-1951 and again in 1966. She was a member of the Auxiliary to Galveston County Medical Society, a member of the Women's Faculty Club at UTMB, a life member of the UTMB Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of the American Red Cross. She attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Jane was an avid bridge player and enjoyed participating in a number of bridge groups. Friends will remember her as an enthusiastic hostess who was always the last to sit down at the table and the first to get up. She was never one to tell others what to do; rather she enjoyed taking on the tasks herself, volunteering her time and talents for many organizations. She was a wholeheartedly unselfish person who always thought of others before herself.
She was a true friend with a big heart and an idol to all those who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Elwood E. Baird.
Jane is survived by her four children: Frederich Montgomery Baird and wife Pam of Carefree, Arizona; Dian Baird Henrichs and husband Daniel of The Woodlands, Texas; Robert Bruce Baird of Galveston, Texas; and Thomas Edward Baird of Houston, Texas; sister Elaine Aldridge and husband Quinton of Chandler, Indiana; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Violet Perry Balducci, 78, of Galveston, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, at her residence.
Funeral service will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 5th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Ruben Garza officiating. Burial will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Violet was born June 11, 1923, in Northville, South Dakota. She grew up in the Midwest and moved to Wyoming at age 5. When Violet was 5, she entered the Navy Waves as a Seaman 1st Class, stationed in San Diego, CA. She came to Galveston in 1946 and met her future husband just after moving here. They met while horseback riding - wearing matching clothes - and were together from that day on, marrying on October 25, 1946. Violet was active in the Galveston 4-H and the Galveston Lassie League, coaching the Speedway Caf team with her husband for several years. Violet's door was always open to anyone, and she was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing and watching sports, especially the Houston Astros. She will be missed by all her family and friends.
Violet is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Balducci; her parents, John Richard Perry and Gayle Sarah Elwell Perry; her sisters, Alice Mowrey, Helen Bedsaul, and Joyce McKindley; her brother, Don Perry; and two stepsons, Albert P. Balducci and Amile Balducci.
She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Van Skike, of Galveston; and Joyce Kleimann and husband, Larry, of Hitchcock; son, Michael S. Haynes and wife, Brandi, of Texas City; stepdaughters: Olivia Orem, of Galveston; and Naomi Ippolito, and husband, Carlos, of Galveston; daughter-in-law, Marie Balducci, of Sour Lake, Texas; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; brother, John Perry and wife, Dot, of Richland, WA; special friends, Mike and Pat Ransford; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Richard Mansfield, Sr., Mike Ransford, Josh Eldridge, Ricky Dodson, Fred Dantin, and John T. Doherty.
Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Balducci, Fred Haynes, and Bobino Belluomini.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the doctors and staff of UTMB 7-B, 10-B, and 10-C units as well as AMED Hospice, especially Kathleen, Angela, and Carol.

Marcus was born on August 17, 1981, in Galveston. A lifelong resident of Galveston, he attend public school and was a 1989 graduate of Ball High School. He was employed as a supervisor with Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Mr. Jimmy G. Balli, Sr. passed from this life Friday afternoon January 4, 2002, in Galveston.
Born November 27, 1930 in Wharton, Mr. Balli had been a resident of Hitchcock for 45 years, previously of Houston. He had been employed as a truck driver for the propane industry for over 21 years and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Balli and Manuela Garcia Rodriguez and sister, Lois Olivarez.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 47 years, Petra Balli; son, Jimmy Balli, Jr.; brothers, Jake Rodriguez, Joe Rodriguez, John Rodriguez, Robert Rodriguez and Richard Rodriguez; sister Janie Rodriguez; Aunt, Annie Edge; cousins, Frank Vela, Aurora Salinas and Mary Alfaro; best friends, Tammie and Billy Decker; numerous nieces, nephews and other cousins. Mr. Balli also leaves behind his cherished birds, Spanky, Rebecca and Paquenta.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Monday, January 7, 2002, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Roy P. Barnes Jr., 62, of Santa Fe passed away January 15, 2002 at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City. He was born January 23, 1939 in Galveston,
Texas. Mr. Barnes was a machinist with Carbide for 26 years and was in the US Navy. He coached little league and softball for fifteen years in La
Marque and Santa Fe, he enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He was a longtime bowler of Galveston and Texas City
since 1960 until May of last year.
