Visitation for Mr. Osie V. Combs, Sr. will be held from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM Sunday, April 21st at the Mainland Funeral Home Chapel in LaMarque. Visitation will continue after 5:00 PM Sunday at the Greater Barbours Chapel Baptist Church, 801 Martin Luther King Ave. in Texas City where a wake will be held from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, April 22, 2002 at the church with Pastor James Brown, officiating. Burial will follow services at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
Mr. Combs was born September 24, 1923 in Corsicana, Texas to the late Frank Carwell Combs and Julia Nash Combs. He departed this life on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 in Texas City. He attended public school in East Texas with additional training in tailoring and auto body repair. He served during World War II in the United States Marine Corps from September 1943 and honorably served until his discharge in February 1946 with the rank of Corporal. Of historical significance, Corporal Combs was one of the orignial Mofitt Point Marines. The Mofitt Point Marines represented approximately 19,000 african-american Marines, the first black marines, who served this county. He participated in action against the Japanese on Guam.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. A faithful soilder, he was a dedicated member of Greater Barbours Chapel Baptist Church in Texas City where he served as a Deacon and member of the choir.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna, of 54 years; his parents, Rev. Frank Carwell Combs and Julia Nash Combs, three sisters, Rosella Combs-Coleman, Mamie Combs Johnson and Myrtle Combs-Thompson and one brother, Augusta Combs.
The legacy of love and devotion that Osie, "Big Daddy", gave to his family and friends, will forever linger in the hearts of his three children, Frederick L. (Mary) Combs, Osie V. (Iris) Combs, Jr. and Ajurella "Girlie/Angel" Combs (Tony, Sr.) Heard; three sisters, Ruby Combs Fisher, Lula V. Combs-Kemp and Clara Combs Gibson; one brother, Melvin Frank Combs; ten grandchildren, Rhonda, Fred, Jr., Sonja, Melany, Natalie, Chanson, Jason, Tony, Jr., Kevin and Tonya; seven great-grandchildren, Stephanie, Stephanie, Kai, Jordan, Myles, Christopher, Michael and Tyler; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, his church family and many, many loving friends.

Mrs. Dorothy Violet Constantine went to be with her Heavenly Lord Thursday evening, August 1, 2002, at her home.
Born April 8, 1921 in Galveston, Mrs. Constantine had been a resident of Santa Fe since 1972. Originally a B.O.I. of Galveston, Dorothy became a W.W.II war bride when she married George Constantine on July 5, 1941. She was a dedicated homemaker, a member of Santa Fe Christian Church and enjoyed attending church and spending time with her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Hazel Kimling and a sister, Allene Theobald.
Survivors include her husband, George William Constantine of Santa Fe; sons, George Alfred and Myra Constantine of Pekin, IN, Don Edward and Connie Constantine of Santa Fe, Kim Alan and Cindy Constantine of League City and Gary William Constantine of Santa Fe; sisters, Josephine Houston of Santa Fe and Shirley Kline of Del Valle; grandchildren, David, George, Don, Amy, Jennifer, A.J., Alex, Brenda, Lois and Richard.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 AM Monday, August 5, 2002, in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery.

Joseph Conti, Sr., 77, of Galveston, passed away Friday, February 8, 2002, at Turner Geriatric Center.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM, Monday, February 11th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Gerald Lewis, SVD, as Celebrant. Entombment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Mausoleum.
Mr. Conti's family will receive visitors after 5:00 PM, Sunday, February 10th, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, led by Deacon John Pistone.
Joseph was born January 12, 1925, in Sicily, Italy. He immigrated to the United States after World War II and worked for several years as a commercial fisherman and shrimper. He married Grace Lofaro on January 14, 1951, and together they made their home in Galveston and started a family. Joseph
began working as a longshoreman for the ILA Local #20 in the 1950's, where he served until his retirement in 1984. Joseph was a member of the Italian American Association of Galveston and a member of Sacred Heart Church. He loved playing cards, spending time with his family, going out to eat, and he made a hobby of buying and trading used cars. Joseph was well loved not only by his family, but by many Galvestonians for his thoughtfulness, hard work, and big heart.
Joseph is preceded in death by his two sisters and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Grace Conti, of Galveston; daughters: Camilla Ramagli and her husband, Louis, of Missouri City, TX; and Freda Cordova and her husband, Robert, of League City, TX; and sons: Nat Conti and his wife, Stephanie, of Galveston; Johnny Conti, of Galveston; and Joseph Anthony Conti, of Galveston; grandchildren: Brian and Lori Ramagli, of Missouri City, TX; Jason and Matthew Cordova, of League City, TX; and Natalie and Sara Conti, of Galveston; sisters-in-law: Mary Conti, of Galveston; and Tina Fichera and her husband, Joe, of Galveston; and brother-in-law: Sebastian Lofaro and his wife, Grace, of Galveston; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Conti, Sr., Louis Ramagli, Robert Cordova, Jason Cordova, Brian Ramagli, and Alfio Lofaro.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sebastian Lofaro, Sr., and Joe Fichera, Sr.

Mrs. Bonnie Mattie Cooper passed from this life Sunday, November 24, 2002, in Alexandria, Virginia.
Born March 22, 1916 in Meade, Oklahoma, Mrs. Cooper was a former resident of Texas City, having resided here from 1948 - 1978. After leaving Texas City she relocated to Fredericksburg, TX until moving to Virginia in 1995. While in Texas City she worked in the food service department of Texas City ISD and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Cooper will be remembered as a fun loving, outgoing person who especially treasured her associations with young people, family and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Prentis Alva Cooper, survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Mary Cooper of Alexandria, VA; sisters Ann and Margarite; grandchildren Larry Cooper,Jr. of Everett, WA, Mark Cooper and his wife, Kathy of Alexandria, VA and great-grandchildren, David and Kristy.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at Grace Memorial Park Cemetery, Reverend Bruce Frazier officiating.

Heart Parish in Galveston.

Arthur was born June 19, 1940, in Port Arthur, Texas, and was a Texan all his life. He devoted his life to the Yellow Cab Company, working as both a cab driver and a dispatcher for many years. Arthur also served for 6 years in the United States Army.
Arthur is preceded in death by his mother, Carmen Estorga Cortez, his father, Frank Cortez, son, Arthur Cortez, Jr., brother, Paulie Cortez, and sister, Augustina Cortez. He is survived by his devoted companion for 20 years, Frances Starks; his daughters: Valentina, Consuela, Carmen, Brittany, Tina, Kathy, Debbie, Maria, and Cindi; and grandchildren: Alexander, Mikaela, Jessica, Sharla, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, and Isabella.

Guy A. (Tex Wayne) Costello, 69, of San Leon, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2002, at Danforth Gardens Care Center in Texas City.

Mr. Costello was born June 12, 1933 in Duncan, Oklahoma. He was a former Oklahoma City policeman and Deputy Constable for Galveston County. He served his country in the United States Marines. Mr. Costello was also a local singer and musician. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Pipefitter's Local #211.
He is preceded in death by his father, E. W. "Hap" Costello; and his sister, Gaye Costello.
Mr. Costello is survived by his mother, Montyne Costello, of Yukon, OK; children: Kay Lynn Vaughn, of Crosby, TX; Kim Costello, of League City; Wayne Costello, of San Leon; Robert Williams, of San Leon; and Debby Jones, of Dickinson; sister, Tanya Qualls, of Yukon, OK; nine grandchildren; and six great grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Mr. Leonard A. Courtright went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Friday, December 6, 2002, after a brief illness.
Born January 14, 1913 in Tushka, Oklahoma, Mr. Courtright had been a resident of Texas City for 44 years. He was a devoted Christian and had taught Sunday School at First Baptist Church of Texas City and had been a member of Seaside Baptist Church of Jamaica Beach for 4 years. Mr. Courtright had served in the U.S. Army for 4 years, 3 months and 28 days during W.W.II, serving in 2 battles - Naples and Foggia, Tunisia and earning 2 bronze service stars, American service ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Carpenter's Local Union # 526 for 45 years and had owned and operated the Tick Tock Clock Shop of Texas City for 25 years.
Leonard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Doris Lee Courtright and parents, L.L. and Mary Courtright of Oklahoma. Survivors include his step son, Boyd S. Chipman and his wife, Jane of Jamaica Beach, with whom Leonard had lived with for 4 years and will be lovingly remembered by his entire family, including grandchildren, Janet
and Gary Carney of Hitchcock, Terry and Chet Navarre of Port Arthur, Les and Julie Chipman of Katy; great-grandchildren, Cody and Lyndi Carney, USAF, Jenna Carney, Michael, Joseph and Sarah Michell and Jordan Gnipp, Jonathan, Maegan, Jessica and Jennifer Chipman.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Everett C. Cox, and two sisters, Florine Owens and Lois Voigt.
Norma is survived by her son, Stephen T. Cox and wife, Sara, of La Marque; sister, Betty M. Schocke, of Galveston; one step granddaughter; three step great grandchildren; two nieces, Karen L. Thompson, of Bryan, and Geraldine Yeary, of Houston; nephew, William H. Voigt, of New Orleans, LA; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Born January 6, 1914 in Applebee, Texas to William Jefferson Pixley and Mary Viola Scogin Pixley, Mrs. Craft was a homemaker who dedicated her life to the care of her husband and family. She loved to sew, fish and was an avid gardener. She was of the Church of Christ faith.
Preceded in death by two sons, Gene Ray Austin and Douglas Austin, survivors include her husband of 52years, Cloyd G. Craft of Galveston; a sister, Audrey Hill of Lufkin; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. John "J. L." Creppon went to be with the Lord, Thursday, September 12, 2002 at his home after a long battle with Leukemia.
Born August 29, 1933, in Galveston, Mr. Creppon had been a lifetime resident of Arcadia. He had been a carpenter since 1958, attended Santa Fe Christian Church and devoted many years of service and dedication to the Galveston County Fair and Rodeo and the local 4-H clubs.
He was preceded in death by his son, John L. Creppon, Jr., parents, Otto and Arabella Creppon, brother, Otto Creppon, Jr. and sister, Dorothy McGinnes.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 44 years, Elva Weyer Creppon of Arcadia; children and their spouses, David and Anita McGinnes, Carolyn and Allen Pennington, Brenda and Mike Chamberlain, Max and Jamie Creppon and Billy and Jan Creppon; sisters, Fay Locke and Marybelle Wilson; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Born March 12, 1974 in Bryan, Texas, Mr. Culbreth has been a resident of Houston for six months previously of Santa Fe, San Antonio and Lubbock. A member of First Baptist Church of Alta Loma, a graduate of Santa Fe ISD, a home health care attendant; he constructed communication towers and owned Diamond C Tower Services. Justin loved his wife, two sons, hunting, fishing, roping, riding his Harley and four-wheel drive trucks.
