William G. Berry
William G. Berry, U. S. Army (Ret.), age 76, died Sept. 15, 2002, in Seguin. He served his country 28 years in the Army and later worked for the Department of Energy in San Antonio.
He was a member of Heideke Street Church of Christ and the local American Legion Post #245. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Evamaria (Evy) Berry; daughter, Patricia Ann Berry; son, Joseph D. Berry and wife Teresa; granddaughter, Amanda; brothers, Ross Berry and Charles Berry; sister, Elizabeth England; Sister-in-law, Patricia Ruth Berry and husband Ray; Numerous nieces, nephews and friends;
The family received friends Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Goetz Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Goetz Memorial Chapel, with Mr. Joe Soto officiating.
The American Legion Post #245 will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
Graveside services and interment with Military Honors will be held at 2:15 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seguin Police Department D.A.R.E. program.

Gilbert Robert Habermann
Gilbert Robert Habermann passed away March 1, 2003 in Seguin. Funeral Services are pending. Mr. Habermann was born May 21, 1910 in Wade Community to Adolph and Elfrieda Habermann. He married Linda Dietert on July 9, 1932 at Emmanuel’s Lutheran Church. He was the owner of Habermann’s Grocery Market between the years of 1944-1971. He sponsored a bowling team. He loved fishing, hunting and bowling. He had a slogan “Once you buy - You will always buy Habermann’s Country Sausage.” He was a longtime member of Cross United Church of Christ.
Gilbert is survived by his daughter Linnette Habermann of Seguin; son Glendon Habermann of Seguin; brother Milton A. Habermann and sister-in-law Grace Habermann.
He is preceded in death by his wife Linda, brothers Arnold F. and Elton J. Habermann, and sister Melanie T. Habermann.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cross United Church of Christ and/or Guadalupe County Humane Society.

Irene Louise Rabe
Irene Louise Rabe passed away March 2, 2003 in Seguin at the age of 84. Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at Cross United Church of Christ with Rev. Alan Coe officiating. Interment San Geronimo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m., Monday at Goetz Funeral Home.
Irene was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Guadalupe County to Fred and Emma Beutnagel. She married Henry Rabe on Jan. 20, 1937, in Seguin. She was a member of Cross United Church of Christ.
Mrs. Rabe is survived by her children Richard Louis Rabe and wife Mary of Pensacola, Fla., Grace Ilene Rabe Point Comfort, Texas Gladys Ann Rabe of San Antonio, and Larry Wayne Rabe and wife Lynda of Seguin; sisters Adelaide Phillips of Seguin and Sylvia Pfullmann of Seguin; granddaughters Kimberly Kolarik and husband David of Maryville, Tenn. and Karin Rabe and husband Matt Gaffron of Cheektowaga, New York; three great grandchildren Kaitlin, Kallie and Cameron Kolarik of Tenn. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Henry George Rabe.

William Edward Sorrell
William Edward "Bill" Sorrell, Sr., age 65 of Seguin, passed away March 2, 2003 in San Antonio.
Graveside services and interment, with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 245, and the Disabled American Veterans, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2003 at Lone Oak Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Price officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2003 at Goetz Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. He was born on July 19, 1937, in East Texas.

Darla Jean Gonzales
Darla Gonzales of San Antonio passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the age of 46.
She is survived by her husband, Julio Gonzales of San Antonio, daughters Tina Gonzales and her husband Victor Rea and Mary Gonzales, grandson Orion Rea, mother Sandra Shellaby of Seguin, brothers Lawrence Shellaby of Austin and Charles Shellaby of Seguin.
Mrs. Gonzales was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Sanders and grandparents Martin and Audrey Brandt.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 5, at Baptist Tempel Chapel.
Doris Jo Day
Doris Jo Day, 87, of Seguin, Texas passed away March 3, 2003. She was better known to her friends and family as “Jo.” She was a business woman in Port Lavaca for many years and then became a rancher in Guadalupe County.
She is survived by son Sam Day and wife Karen Day; grandchildren Jennifer Day of San Antonio, Texas, San Day II, USAF, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico; and sister Jackie Garland of Waco, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Mary Louise Fleming Matthies
Mary Louise Fleming Matthies, passed away March 1, 2003, at the Care Inn in Seguin at the age of 92.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday March 5, 2003, at Goetz Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Vayda and Rev. Jim Price officiating. Interment will follow in the Matthies Family Cemetery at Capote Farms in Guadalupe County. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2003, at Goetz Funeral Home with the family receiving friends 5-7 p.m.
Mary was born in Seguin, Oct. 2, 1910, to Clifton and Mildred Moss Fleming. She married C. H. “Cuta” Matthies, in Seguin, April 2, 1931. She was a 1927 graduate of Seguin High School, and attended TLC for two years.
“Miss Mary,” as she was affectionately known by her family and many friends, worked for Guadalupe County for 25 years — 15 years in the county clerk’s office and 10 years as the first election administrator. She retired in 1990.
In 1993, she was recognized by Texas Lutheran College with the Distinguished Community Service Award for her many years of public service. Mrs. Matthies held the positions of secretary of the rationing board and then the head of the local draft board during World War II. She was a member of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, C. H. “Cuta” Matthies, son C. H. “Pokey” Matthies, Jr., and one grandson, C. F. “Shorty” Matthies, Jr.; brothers, Travis Fleming, L. E. “Inky” Fleming, Bill Fleming, Leonard “Dick” Fleming and two sisters, Katie Fleming and Patsy Page.
She is survived by children, C. F. “Skippy” Matthies and wife Mary Jo of Seguin, Joe Adele Schmidt and husband Harold of Fredericksburg, Texas, Zan Matthies and wife Pat of Fort Stockton, Texas, Ann Miller and husband Steve of Butte, Montana, daughter-in-law Betty Ann Matthies of Seguin; one brother Joe B. Fleming and wife Helen of Seguin, sister-in-law Bernice Fleming of Seguin, and Hazel Fleming of Pflugerville, Texas, nine grandchildren, Mike Matthies, C. Henry Matthies III, Wesley Matthies, Elizabeth Kappel, Zan Matthies Jr., Zana Hanson, Matt Pierce, Kathy Roberts, Kim Newton, and nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Matt Pierce, Mike Matthies, Zan Matthies, Jr., Wesley Matthies, C. Henry Matthies III and Fred M. Blumberg.
Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Bolf, Alfred Koebig, Margaret Schmidt Taylor, Woodrow Simmler, Scott Donegan and T. M. Fleming.

James H. Seiler
James H. Seiler, age 82 of Marion, passed away March 4, 2003.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Kermit and Susan Seiler, San Antonio; Donald Seiler, Marion; Andrew and Gina Seiler, Marion; sister, Miriam Bueche, San Angelo; brother, Harold Seiler, China Grove; grandchildren Louise, Caroline, Rachel, Matthew, Andrew and Adam; great grandchild, Lynnea.
Mr. Seiler was preceded in death by his wife, Loraine and his brother William E. Seiler.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday, March 6, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2003, at Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park.

She was born Oct. 4, 1916 in Seguin, Texas to Guadalupe and Martina Rodriguez Garcia. She was a member of the Guadalupanas and Cursillistas at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Union Mutua of Marion. She is preceded in death by her husband Joe N. Gonzales, son, Pete Gonzales, daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Gonzales, grandson, Jimmy Dickerson, her parents and five brothers and one sister. Elton J. Kierum Jr.
Elton J. Kierum Jr., U.S. Coast Guard, retired, age 67, died in San Antonio, Texas, Monday, March 3, 2003.
He was born to Edna (Brotze) and Elton J. Kierum Sr. Nov. 18, 1935, in Converse, Texas.
Survivors include wife, Elaine of Marion; mother, Edna Kierum of Schertz; daughters Cynthia D. Hood and husband Charles D. Jr. of Eagle River, Ala., Brenda Kierum-Terry and husband John of Marion; sisters Joyce E. Schaefer and husband Alex of St. Hedwig, and Ginger Lee Kierum of Sheridan, Ark.; grandchildren Natalie Elaine Blackwell and husband Joshua of Jacksonville, Fla., Cody Reece Johnson of Marion and John David Terry Jr. of Marion.

Olga D. Guinn
Olga D. Guinn passed away March 5, 2003 in San Antonio. Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 10, 2003 at 8 a.m. at La Trinidad Methodist Church with Rev. Alvaro Guzman and Rev. Juan Salas officiating. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. Olga was born April 16, 1947 in Seguin to Daniel and Rachel DeLaCruz. She graduated from TLC in 1969. She worked for Seguin ISD for over 30+ years and presently at Ball Elementary. She received Teacher of the Year Award 1999-2000. She was a member of La Trinidad Methodist Church, dedicated educator, devoted wife and loving mother.
Mrs. Guinn is survived by her husband Donald E. Guinn of Marion, daughter Erica Guinn of Marion, mother Rachel DeLaCruz and numerous relatives.
She is preceded in death by her father Daniel DeLaCruz.

Lee Allen Weigel Jr.
Lee Allen Weigel Jr., age 75, of Seguin passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003.
Lee was born on February 13, 1928, in Choate, Texas. He attended high school in Alice, Texas, and left in early 1945 just a few months shy of graduation joining the Merchant Marines serving in the Pacific theater of WWII. He served until 1948 when he went to work for Sun Company, Inc., starting as a roughneck and retiring as a production foreman of natural gas in 1984 after 37 years of distinguished service.
For the better part of the last 17 years, he provided wise counsel and guidance to those seeking a new start in life through the Seguin Tri-Party Club.
His parents, Lee Allen and Eula Eudora, preceded Lee in death.
Lee is survived by three children, Tommy Lee Weigel of Austin, Paul Allen Weigel and wife, Diana, of Seguin, and Lisa Ann Weigel of New Braunfels; five grandchildren, Victoria Ann Weigel, Cheryl Lynn Friesenhahn, Joseph Daniel Friesenhahn, John Leroy Barnes, III, and Thomas J. Weigel; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Allen Friesenhahn and Landon Aaron Vogt.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Palmer Mortuary Chapel at 1116 N. Austin St. in Seguin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to Guadalupe Valley Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Lee’s name.

Irma Hagn Voges died Monday, March 10, 2003, in Temple.

Irma was born June 18, 1908, in Seguin to George and Hermine Heinemeier Hagn. She was a member of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church, Seguin Study Club and Nogales Garden Club.
She is preceded in death by her husband Roy H. Voges, Sr., her parents and sister Gertrude Bohn.
Mrs. Voges is survived by her two daughters, Georgia Braulick of Northfield, Minn. and Jocelyn Licatovich and husband Don of Yantis; one son Roy H. Voges Jr. and wife Rita of Temple; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jeff Voges, Scott Voges, Todd Voges, Shawn Moore, Edward Braulick and Dan Rose.

Norma Kluth, 87 of Seguin died March 12, 2003.

Norma was born July 23, 1915 in Guadalupe County to Gustav and Clara Stautzenberger. She attended Laubach School. On October 22, 1935, she married Erwin Kluth at Emanuel’s Lutheran Church. Mrs. Kluth was known for being an excellent seamstress. She hand made clothes for many people of Seguin and she made all the clothes for her four daughters. She sewed cheerleader outfits, TLC coronation gowns, and trains, wedding and bridesmaid dresses. She was very busy mother raising four daughters. She was a great lady, wife, mother and friend.She is preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Clara Stautzenberger; husband Erwin Kluth; a still born son; brothers, Erwin, Milton, Ferdinand, Gilbert and Gustav Jr.
