Mrs. Roxie English
Mrs. Roxie English, 84, of Kennard, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, in a Crockett
nursing home.
Mrs. English was born May 1, 1883, in Houston County. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church of Kennard.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church
of Kennard, with Rev. Frank Oswald, pastor of the church, officiating.
Burial was in the Ivie Cemetery, near Kennard.
Pallbearers were Loyd English, Roscoe English, Harry English, Jimmie
English, Robert Simmons, and Edgar Thames.
Survivors include two sons, R. C. and Claude English, both of Crockett;
three sisters, Mrs. Mary Lou Coats and Mrs. May Smith, both of Tyler, and
Mrs. Ann Jordan of Wells; three grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.

Mrs. E. D. (Dorothy) English
Mrs. E. D. (Dorothy) English, 61, of Crockett, died Saturday morning in a
local hospital.
Mrs. English was born in Redding, Calif., but had lived in Houston County
for the last 24 years. She was a member of the Central Baptist Church, and
of the Navy Auxilliary Branch No. 96 of Dallas.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Central Baptist
Church, with Rev. W. D. Thomason officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen
Memorial Park.
Survivors include the husband, Dudley English of Crockett; two daughters,
Mrs. R. L. Jenkins of Lamesa, Calif., and Mrs. J. E. Vickers of Bryan;
eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.

W. R. (Bill) English
Services for W. R. (Bill) English, 79, of Lufkin, were held Monday, May 16,
in the Gipson Chapel of Lufkin. Rev. Bob Overton officiated and entombment
followed in the Garden of Memories Mausoleum.
Mr. English died Sunday in a Lufkin hospital after a brief illness. He was
born Sept. 24, 1896, in Houston County and had resided in Lufkin for the
past 28 years. He was a retired manager of the Hotel Angelina Barber Shop.
He was a member of the Lufkin local of the Journeyman Barbers Union and a
Veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Susvivors include his wife, May, of Lufkin; a son, Charles R. of Crockett;
a daughter, Mrs. Sam Grundy of Houston; a brother, G. B. of Houston; six
greandchildren and tow great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ray English, J. T. McClain, Dr. Jesse L. English, Max
English, Henry Harve English, Harve Lee English.
Honorary pallbearers were members of Carson Class of First Baptist Church
Sunday School.

Mr. Arthur B. English, 84, of Kennard, died Tuesday, June 16, in a Crockett
hospital.
Mr. English, a retired farmer, was born May 15, 1886, in Houston County. He
was a member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, i8n the Kennard
Baptist Church, with Rev. Frank Oswald and Rev. Oscar Lock officiating.
Burial was in the Ivie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Tunstall, Reagan English, Rex English, David
English, Roger English, Merle Locke.

Barney Page English
Mr. Barney Page English, 77, of Douglass, died there Friday.
Mr. English was born in Houston County Aug. 25, 1887, but had lived in
Douglass for 50 years. He was a retired merchants and a member of the
Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Douglass Methodist
Church with the Reverends James Knight of Tenaha and Wayne Lee of Douglass,
both Methodist ministers, officiating. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery.
Pallbearers were C. D. King, Gene Talley, Amos Rogers, Hoyt King, Obert
Morgan and Jack Kelley.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Myrtle English of Douglass; a daughter,
Mrs. Blanche Anderson of Henderson; a sister; Mrs. May Baker of Crockett;
one grandchild; and one great grandchild.

Mary Elizabeth English
Mrs. Mary Elizabeth English, 79, of Corsicana, and a native of Leon County,
died in Corsicana Monday, Aug. 8, after a short illness.
Born on Dec. 18, 1882, in Leon County, Mrs. English was a member of the
Methodist church.
She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ona Fondon and Mrs. Nelda Rascoe of
Corsicana, Mrs. L. L. Bartee, of Crockett, Mrs. L. D. Price of Houston, and
Mrs. Clifton Smith of Beaumont; a son, W. B. English of Corsicana; a
brother, J. B. Sanders of Trinity; 16 grandchildren; and 15
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. English were hald at the Callaway Memorial Chapel
at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, with the Rev. Bruce Hibbit of Corsicana
officiating. Interment was in the Center Hill Cemetery.

Mr. James (Jim) English, 93, of Kennard, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, in a local
hospital.
Mr. English, a retired farmer and rancher, was born Aug. 30, 1875, in
Trinity County, and was a lifelong resident of Houston and Trinity
Counties. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kennard.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church
of Kennard, with Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Burial was in the Ivie
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Taylor, Gene Jones, James Carroll, Wayne Davis, Hugh
Thames and Danny Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Loyd English of Kennard and Earl English of
LaPorte; two daughters, Mrs. Velva Taylor of Kennard and Mrs. Mildred
Dominy of Houston; nine grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

Mr. R. H. (Harvey) English, 78, of Kennard, died Sunday in a local
hospital.
Mr. English, a retired farmer, was born Nov. 10, 1890, in Houston County,
and was a lifelong resident of the county. He was a member of the Baptist
Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War I.
Funeral services were held in the Kennard Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday,
with Rev. Frank Oswald and Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating. Burial was in the
Enon Cemetery.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Maggie English of Kennard; a daughter,
Mrs. Reba Brent of Kennard; two sons, Harvey L. English of Lufkin and Roy
M. English of Houston; two brothers, Bill English of Lufkin and Buck
English of Houston; nine grandchildren; and three great grandsons.

Mrs. Lena Addie English, 78, of Kennard, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 15, in
the Houston County Hospital.
Mrs. English was born in Houston County on Nov. 21, 1893, and had lived
here for her entire lifetime. She was a member of the Kennard Baptist
Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kennard Baptist Church,
with Rev. Frank Oswald and Rev. Oscar Lock officiating. Interment was in
the Ivie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Reagon English, Rex English, David English, Roger English,
Mike English, Merle Lock, Marcus English and Jimmy Tunstall.
Survivors include three sons, R. C. English of Kennard, A. B. English, Jr.,
of Aspermont and Max English of Lufkin; a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Tunstall of
Crockett; two sisters, Mrs. T. B. Greer of Chireno an dMrs. T. G. Metteauer
of Beaumont; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Naoma M. English, 71, of Crockett, passed away Saturday, Sept. 15, in
the Houston County Hospital.
Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Waller Funeral Home
Chapel, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey and Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Interment
followed in the Ivie Cemetery.
Survivors include the husband, Clell English of Crockett; a son, Harry
English of Lufkin; two granddaughters; two sisters, Mrs. Florence English
of Crockett and Mrs. Pearl Norsworthy of Orange.

Mrs. Doris Jewel English
Mrs. Doris Jewel English, 45, of Trinity, passed away Thursday, May 9, in
Lufkin due to injuries sustained in an auto accident.
Mrs. English, a dental assistant, was a life long resident of Trinity and
was a member of the Church of Christ in Trinity.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, in the Church of
Christ in Trinity, with Mr. Rick Hess officiating. Interment followed in
the Salem Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Don English of Houston; two daughters, Mrs.
Linda Lightsety of Brazoria and Miss Susan English of Trinity; one brother,
Joseph Newton Thompson Jr., of Huntsville; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services for George Buck English, 75, were held at 3 p.m.
Wednesday in the Ivie Cemetery with Rev. Joe Brumberlow officiating.
Mr. English, a resident of Houston, died Tuesday at his home. he was born
March 28, 1899 in Houston County but had lived in Houston for the past 25
years. He was maintenance man for the Bank of the Southwest.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rena English of Houston; two sons, Ray
English and Bobby English, both of Houston; a daughter, Mrs. Bernice
Buckner of Houston; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Bettie English
Mrs. Bettie English, 66, of Pasadena, was killed in an automobile accident
July 1, near Rising Starr.
Mrs. English was born in Houston County on Oct. 20, 1908, and had lived
here for a number of years before moving to Pasadena, where she was
employed as a school teacher. in 1952. She was a member of the South Main
Street Baptist in Pasadena, of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorotity, and of the
Texas State Teachers Association.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Kennard Baptist Church,
with Dr. B. J. Martin and Dr. Claude Thompson officiating. Burial was in
the Ivie Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Truman English, Herman English, Marlin English, Jerry
Parrish, Gary Parrish, James Wright, Harold Wright and Jimmie Harrison.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Geneva Harrison of Kennard; two sisters,
Mrs. Troy Wright of Texas City and Mrs. Bob Gibson of Houston; two
brothers, Morris Parrish of Waston and R. G. Parrish of Kennard; and two
grandchildren, Jimmie Harrison of Huntsville and Miss Brenda Harrison of
Kennard.

Mr. Henry Clayton English, 55, of Seagoville, passed away Friday, Jan, 8,
1970, in Dallas.
Mr. English, a former resident of Houston County, had resided in Seagoville
for the last 20 years.
Graveside funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Jack
Nivens officiating. Interment was in the Ivie Cemetery.
Surviviors include the widow, Mrs. Helen English of Seagoville; two sons,
James C. English of Dallas and Ernest R. English of Seagoville; two
daughters, Mrs. Sue Barron of Dallas and Mrs. Jenny Forbes of Kaufman; his

Grapeland, Truman English of Kennard and Hilburn English of Houston; a

Jimmy English
Mr. Jimmy English, 31, of 309 Runnels Avenue, Crockett, died Monday
afternoon in the Parkland Hospital in Dallas from injuries he sustained in
an auto mobile accident Sunday night.
Mr. English was born in Houston County on Aug. 14, 1939, and had lived here
for his entire lifetime. He was a 1957 grraduate of Kennard High School and
attended Sam Houston State University at Huntsville for two years before he
entered the U.S. Army. Mr. English was the administrator of the Crockett
Nursing Center. He was a member of the Ratcliff Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel, with Rev. Frank Oswald officiating. Interment was in the Ivie
Cemetery, near Kennard.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Culp, David Culp, Ray Bounds, Ralph Baughman, Sam
Herod, and Ted Spiler.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Peggy English of Crockett; a son, James
Jason English of Crockett; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude english of
Crockett; and a brother, Harold English of Sugarland.

Stella Williams English
BEAUMONT---Stella Williams English, 64, of 3915 Hartel died at 7:25 p.m.
Friday at Baptist Hospital.
She was a native of Flora, Miss., and a Beaumont resident over 40 years.
She formerly owned and operated Stella's Beauty Shop, was a member of the
Spindletop Chapter of the American Business Women's Association and was a
member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. English is survived by her husband, R. Claude English; two sisters,
Mrs. Ida Ware of Houston and Mrs. Edwin (Wilma) Skinner of Lovington, N.
M.; one brother, A. H. Williams of Brandon, Miss., and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were to be conducted Monday at 10a.m. in the L. M.
Williams and Sons Chapel with the Rev. James R. Thompson, pastor of the
Calvary Baptist Church officiating.
Pallbearers include Harold Quebodeaux, Richard English, Earl Landrum, Jack
W. Jones, Dr. Jessie English, Glenn C. Peerson, Max English and Herry
Covington.
Interment in Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of L. M. Williams and

Capt. George Buck English Jr.
Capt. George Buck English Jr., age 47, of Route 1, Kennard, passed away
after a sudden illness Wednesday, May 22, on his tug boat in the Gulf of
Mexico about 180 miles sourthwest of Tampa, Florida.
Captain English, a tug boat captain for Bludeo Barge and Towing Company of
Houston, was born Aug. 10, 1926 in Houston County, and was a veteran of
World War II.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, at 3 p.m. in the Callaway
Memorial Chapel with Rev. Joe Brumbelow of Doverside Baptist Church
ofHouston officiating. Burial was in Ivie Cemetery near Kennard.
Pallbearers were Sonny Newton, Junior Mitchem, Roy English, Maurice Ivy,
Phillip Whitt, Donald Rawls, Billy Rex Rudd and Pete Buchner.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Patricia English of Kennard; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Buck English of Houston; two brothers, Ray and bobby G.
English, both of Houston; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Bruckner of Houston, and
several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Mary Nevans Enochs, 93, of 1102 Redbud Lane, Crockett, passed away
April 27, in the Houston County Hospital.
Mrs. Enochs was born Jan. 15, 1881 in Lampasas County, Texas, and was a
member of the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown.
Funeral services wee held in the Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Georgetown,
Texas. at 10 a.m. April 29, with Rev. Tom Graves officiating. Burial was in
Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Charles G. Heyne of Crockett, Mrs. J.
Hester Davis of Georgetown; one brother, Jim Nevans of Abilene; four
grandchildren; six great grandchildren.

Mr. Thaxton Louis Epperson, 82, of Trinity, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23,
in the Trinity Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Epperson, a resident of Trinity County for the past 55 years, was a
retired receiver for the W.B.T.&S. Railroad. He was a member of the Baptist
Church, a Mason and a Shriner.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Dorxas Wills Baptist
Church, with Rev. H. R. Stinson, Rev. Wells and Rev. Martin Officiating.
Graveside services followed at 4 p.m. in the Livingston Cemetery in
Livington.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Pearl Epperson of Trinity; a son, W. T.
Epperson of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Leighnae Hogue and Mrs.
Jeanette Michael, both of Trintiy; a sister, Mrs. Volecia Rhea; eight
grandchildren; and severn great grandchildren.

Mr. Charles Edward Ernst, 40, of Port Arthur, drowned in Spindletop Gully
near Port Arthur Sunday.
Mr. Ernst was auditor for Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation's Bridge
City office. He was a member of Grapeland Masonic Lodge No. 473 and of the
Episcopal church.
Graveside funeral services were held in the Latexo Cemetery at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, with Grapeland Masonic Lodge No. 473 conducting Masonic rites.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Carolyn Ernst of Port Arthur; three
daughters, Karen, Jennifer and Carol Ann all of Port Arthur; his mother,
Mrs. Velma Ernst of Baytown; a sister, Mrs. Diana Rose Harlen of Baytown;
two brothers, Fred L. and Kenneth Ernst, both of Baytown.

for Archie George Erwin, 68, of Austonio, who died in Houston, Sunday, Feb.

Cemetery.
Erwin was a lifelong resident of Houston County. He was a member of the
Baptist Church and of the American Legion.

of Houston, Mrs. Hattie Atkinson and Mrs. Gussie McCullar of Austonio and

Mrs. Myrtle Elizabeth Estell, 50, of 1303 Colcord St., Waco, died Saturday,
Feb. 17, in a Waco hospital.
Mrs. Estell was born in Houston County on Sept. 5, 1922, but had made her
home in Waco for about three years. She was a member of the Pentecostal
Church.
Funeral services were held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel. Interment was in the Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Owens, Raymond Phills, Glenn Ackley, Charles Bennett,
Danny D. Hollister and Donald Lloyd.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clarice Ross and Mrs. Elizabeth Ann
White, both of Houston; four sisters, mrs. Lela Johnson of Bastrop, Mrs.

Funeral services for Carel Estell, 71, of 102 S. 12th Street, Crockett,
were held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at 3:30p.m. in the Waller Family Chapel.
Rev. Oscar Locke officiated. Burial was in the Grapeland Cemetery.
Mr. Estell, a resident of Crockett, died Sunday in Houston. He was born
Feb. 3, 1903 in Houston County and had resided here all his life. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church and the Grapeland Masonic
Lodge.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dessie M. Estell of Crockett; three
daughters Mrs. Carel June Streetman of San Diego, Calif., and Mrs. Shirley
Sue Austin of Houston.
Also, two sisters, Mrs. Cora Skidmore and Mrs. Effie Herod, both of
Grapeland, and five grandchildren.
Two half brothers, Lacy Platt and Clifford Platt, both of Latexo; two half
sisters. Mrs. Eva McElyea of Dallas, and Mrs. Oradell Hardison of
Groesbeck.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to the
cancer society.

hospital.
Mrs. Estell, a resident of Houston County most of her life, was a member of

Rev. Leslie Grounds officiating. Burial was in the Creek Cemetery.
Survivors include the husband, Willie D. Estell of Crockett; two sons,
Herman and Willard Estell both of Crockett; a daughter, Mrs. Lucille
Stephenson of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Yarborough of Crockett
and Mrs. Annie McCullar and Mrs. Mattie Boutee, both of Houston; and eight
grandchildren.

Lucius Estes
Mr. Lucius Estes, 88, of Nacogdoches, died Saturday evening in a
Nacogdoches hospital.
Mr. Estes had live dmost of his life in Hosuton County, until the last few
years. He served a number of years as deputy sheriff.
Funeral services werre held at 2:30p.m. Monday in the Evergreen Memorial
Park, with Rev. E. P. Ramsey officiating, interment following immediately.
Survivors include a son, John C. Estes; a brother, Lamar Estes of San
Antonio; and a sister, Mrs. D. E. Barbee of Nacogdoches.

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock for Mrs. W.
O. Estes, 86, who died last Wednesday afternoon in Palestine.
Rev. T. B. Johnson officiated at the services held in the Elkhart Baptist
church. Burial was in the Garden of Memory cemetery with grandsons as
pallbearers.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, C. T. Kendricks of Palestine, C.
S. Kendricks of Elkhart, Roy Steadman of Tyler, Troy Steadman of palestine
and W. O. Estes Jr. of Grapeland; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence Wynne and

Charles Kenneth Etheredge
Mr. Charles Kenneth Etheredge, 19, of Weldon, died Sunday evening in a
local hospital following a one-car accident between Weldon and Lovealdy.
Mr. Etheredge, a student at Sam Houston State College in Huntsville, where
he was majoring in math, was employed by the E and G Carpet Service of
Dallas. He was born in Huntsville, but had lived in Houston County most of
his life. He was a member of the Church of Christ of Weldon.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Weldon Church of
Christ, with Mr. Don Crafton officiating. Burial was in the Antioch
Cemetery.
Survivors include the parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Etheredge of Weldon;
grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Adams of Trinity; a brother, John Ruben Etheredge
of Mesquite; two sisters, Miss Sarah Nell Etheredge of Weldon, and Mrs.
Jeraldine Guinn of Garland; two nieces; and four nephews.

Mr. Ruben Pardon Etheredge, 67, of Weldon, died Tuesday night, Jan. 9 in a
Trinity hospital.
Mr. Etheredge, a lifelong resident of Weldon and a retired state employee,
was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Waller Funeral home
Chapel, of Trinity, with Mr. Don Crafton officiating. Burial was in the
Antioch Cemetery.
Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Susie Lee Etheredge of Weldon; a son,
John Ruben Etheredge of Mesquite; two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Guinn of
Garland and Miss Sarah Nell Etheredge of Weldon; six grandchildren; a
number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. W. T. Etheredge Sr.
Mrs. W. T. Etheredge Sr., 73, of Houston died Sunday in a Houston hospital.
Mrs. Etheredge was a native and former resident of Weldon. She was a
Houston resident for 48 years. She was a member of the McGregor Park Church
of Christ.
Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Forest Park Lawndale
Funeral Chapel, with Mr. Robert Brooks officiating. Burial was in the
Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Survivors include two sons, Gayle Etheredge of Houston and W. T. Etheredge
Jr., of Pasadena; two sisters, Mrs. laura Hyde of Weldon and Mrs. Lela
Harrelson of Houston; two brothers, Vernon Gayle of Crockett and Ben Gayle
of Weldon; four grandchildren, Mrs. Barbara Jones, Bill, Deborah and Denese
Etheredge; a great grandchild, Sheri Jones.
Forest Park Funeral Home of Houston was in charge of arrangements.
