Mrs. Esther Davison

LIVINGSTON: Services for Mrs. Esther Davison Bergman, 74, will be at 3 p.m.
today at Pace Chapel with burial in Forest Hill Cemetery here. Died
Thursday in Polk County Hospital after long illness. Was member of a
pioneer family here, and widow of Carl Bergman, former state
representative. Was member of Presbyterian Church and Order of Eastern
Star. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. George Webster, and a sister, Mrs. J.
W. Leggett, both of Livingston.

LUFKIN: Services for Jim Smith, 49, of Houston, fatally injured in a
construction accident, 11 a.m. Saturday in Gipson Funeral Chapel. Burial in

Mrs. R. J. Lawrence

housewife and resident here since 1928. Died Thursday, Survivors: Husband

at 2 p.m. today in Bailey Memorial Chapel. Burial in Meadows Cemetery. Died

Haywood David Hayes

SILSBEE: Services for Haywood David Hayes, 62, custodian of McNeil
Intermediate School here, at 2 p.m. Sunday in Good Shepherd Baptist Church.
Burial in Old Hardin Cemetery. Suffered a heart seizure and died at the
school Thursday. Survivors: Sisters, Mrs. Opal Creel, Mrs. Sim Ward and
Mrs. Pearl Whitney, all of Silsbee, and brother, Buck of Saratoga.


Mrs. Nora Vallery

VICTORIA: Mrs. Nora Vallery, 65, died early Thursday in a local hospital
after a short illness. She is surived by daughters, Mrs. Richard Dubroe,
Victoria, and Mrs. Kathleen Miletello, Houston; son, Lawson E. Vallery of
Morgan City, La.; sisters, Mrs. Annie Herron, Mrs. Minnie White and Mrs.
Lena Vernon, all of San Antonio; brothers, Albert Newman, Kerrville, and
Jesse Newman, San Antonio; eight graandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church. Burial
will be in Houston at the Forest Park Cemetery Funeral Home is in charge of
arrangements.

DAVIS--Harold Mixon Davis, 60, of 2901 Cedar Hill, passed away. Survivors:
wife, Mrs. Gladys Davis, Houston; one son, five daughters, two brothers, 13

Esthman L. Newman

SHREVEPORT (UPI)--- Esthman L. Newman, wire editor of the Shreveport Times
and president of the United Press Internation Newspaper Assn. of Louisiana,
died Thursday. He was 49.

Funeral services were scheduled tentatively for today in Ruston, La.

Newman suffered a heart attack at his home early Thursday.

He was to have served as chairman of the annual UPI Louisiana Editprs
meeting in New Orleans later this month.

E. M. Campbell

W. M. Campbell, 84 years of age and for over 60 years a resident of Houston
County, died suddenly Friday afternood about 2:30 o'clock at thehome of his
niece, Mrs. Isbell, in the Arbor community, ten miles southeast of
Crockett. Mr. Campbell's suden death was believed to have been caused by
heart failure. He was in Crockett Friday morning and the early part of the
same afternoon visiting his many friends here. He complained to several
persons of feeling slightly ill, although he said that he did not think it
was anything sericous.

Mr. Campbell was taked home shortly after noon Friday and was sitting on
the porch when he collcollapsed. He had been talking to several persons who
had passed and told them that he experienced a peculing feeling about his
head. He had just asked his neice for a glass of water. Mrs. Iskell said
she left to get the water and when she returned, Mr. Campbell had
collapsed. It was believed that he was dead when Mrs. Isbell reached him.
The Death was so sudden that no doctor was summoned.

Funeral services were held in theMount Vernon church Saturday afternoon at
3:00 o'clock and internment followed in the Mount Vernon cemetery, Rev.
Wallace and Rev. Hodge conducted the funeral services, while funeral
arrangements were in charge of C. H. Callaway.

Mr. Campbell was well known in Crockett, where he had a large host of
friends who will mourn his passing. He was born in Holmes County,
Mississippi, in 1847, but came to Texas about sixty-five years ago and
settled in Houston county, where he had resided continuously until his
death. When a young man, he was married to Miss Frances McCombs, who
preceded him in death two years ago. He was a Confederate veteran, having
served the South during theCivil War. He united with the Baptist church in
early childhood and was a consistent member of the church until his death.
He served a superintendent of his home Sunday school for thirty-five years.

Survivin the deceased are his brother, Dave W. Campbell of Austin; one
sidter, Mrs. Susie McCombs aof Weldon; a niece, Mrs. C. B. Isbell, of
Arbor, and numerous other relatives in Houston County.

NAVASOTA--Funeral services for Rufus Guy Davis, 59, of Carlos, former
Grimes County tax assessor-collector, were held at the Chapel of the
Lindley-Robertson Funeral Home of Navosota. Butial was in the Pleasant Hill
Cemeetery of Carlos.

Davis died at his home.

Davis, who was county tax assessor-collector between Jan1, 1953, and Dec
31, 1960, owned and operated a store at Carios.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Josie K. Davis of Carlos; two daughters,
Mrs. John H. Northcut of Carlos and Mrs. Wesley Robinson of Bryan, and one
son, Leo Davis of Wharton.

Byrd died at his home here after a long illness.

and three daughters, Dorothy and Elaine Byrd of Moulton and Mrs. Elaine

He died unexpectedly in his home.

He was an oilfield worker.

He was a retired clerk of the Santa Fe Railway Co for 38 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Ella Sheffield, and two daughters,
Mrs. Inez Walton and Mrs. Helen Grimes both of Beaumont.

was a retired employee of Pure Oil Transportation Co.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Corrie Chance; a son, John E. Chance of
Lafayette, La and two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Saword and Mrs. A. J. Clubb,
both of Beaumont.

Thompson; and thre sons, Felex Garcia of Tulia; Donimgo Garcia of Hale

John A. Hoffer

KENEDY -- Funeral services for John A. Hoffer, 84, were held in Saint
Anthony's Catholic Church in Runge. Burial was in the Runge Cemetery.

Hoffer was born in Lavaca County, but lived most of his life in or near
Runge. He was a retired farmer.

He died in a San Antonio rest home after a long illness.

Susvivors include his wife, Mrs. Katie Burns Hoffer of Range; one
daughrter, Mrs. Loell Crouch of New Brounfels, and two sons, S. A. Hoffer
of Harlingen and J. A. Hoffer of Perry, Ark.

KENEDY -- Funeral services for Samuel Paul Blisset, 75, who died in a
Kenedy hostpiral after a long illness, were held at the First Baptist
Church in Hasco. Burial was in the cemetery at Hillsboro.

Blisset had lived in the Pawnee community near Kenedy for 17 years.

Survivors include his iwfe, Mrs. Sammie Jospehine Blisset.

Saturday Rites For

Clyde Davis

Funeral services for Clyde Davis, 85, of Grapeland, were held Saturday,
April 28, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Grapeland, with Dr.
R. L. Badgett officiating. Burial was in the Grapeland City Cemetery under
the direction of Hassell & Foster.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Davis was born September 6, 1887 in Grapeland to the late E. W. Davis
and Mrs. Lucinda Sheridan Davis, and he died Thursday, April 26, at 2:30
a.m. in the Crockett hospital following a long illness. Prior to retiring
in 1954, he orked for many years for Missouri Pacific Railroad. he first
started for Missiouri Pacific as a telegraph operator at the age of 18 in
Grapeland, and was in the accounting department at the time he retired.
During World War I, he served in the Signal Corps of the U. S. Army. He was
a member of the First Christian Church, Grapeland, a Masonic Lodge of
Houston, V. F. W. Post #3907 of Palestine, and the Brotherhood of Railway
and Steamship Clerks. Prior to moving back to Grapeland and Crockett, he
was a residen tof the O'Neill Hotel, Palestine.

Survivors: two brothers, Edwin W. Davis of Robstown, and Leroy Davis of
Woodville; three sisters, Mrs. J. B. (Adelle) Zimmerman of Odessa, Mrs.
Eula Mae Trigg and Mrs. Henry (Winnie) Newman, both of Grapeland; numerous
nieces and nephews.

Samuel Falcon Davis

Mr. Samuel Falcon Davis, 89, of Pennington, passed away early Saturday
morning. May 19, in the Houston County Hospital.

Mr. Davis was born in Trinity County on Aug. 18, 1883, and had lived there
for his entire lifetime. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the Callaway Memorial
Chapel with Rev. Rascoe Wells officiating. Interment was in the Hill
Cemetery near Pennington.

Pallvearers were James Davis, Jimmy Davis, Martin Davis, Donald Davis,
David Davis, harmon Davis and Sam Davis.

Survivors include four sons, Ralph, Hulon and Cleon Davis, all of
Pennington. Oren Davis of Houston; one brother, Fred Davis of Kennard; nine
grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of Callaway Funeral Home of Crockett.

Olian Edward Davis

Mr. Olian Edward Davis, 67, of Rt. 2 Trinity, passed away Tuesday, June 12,
in the V. A. Hospital in Houston.

Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Trinity County, a member of the
Methodist Church and a veteran of World War II.

Graveside services were held Thursday, June 14, at 2 p.m. in the thornton
Cemetery with Rev. Mark M. Ellis officiating.

Survivors include one brother, William C. Davis of Seminole, Florida; one
sister, Miss Willie J. Davis of Glendale, Texas; several nieces and
nephews.

Wreck Victim

Funeral services for Neil Davis, 21, of Morganton, N. Carolina wre held
Friday, September 14, at 4"00 p.m. in Hassell and Foster Chapel Palestine,
with Elder D. S. Laursen officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Park,
Palestine.

Mr. Davis was born November 26, 1951 in Houston, Texas to William Paul
Davis and Mrs. Hazel Elizabeth Self Davis, and he was pronounced dead on
arrival at a Palestine hospital Wednesday, Sept 12, at 4:00 p.m. following
injuries received in an automobile accident. Resident of Morganton for the
past 7 years, he was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Jaycees
and an employee of the Carolina Shoe Company.

Survivors: wife, Mrs. Linda Pierson Davis of Morganton; a daughter; Miss
Loretta Michelle Davis of Morganton, North Carolina; parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Paul Davis of Morganton; great-grandfather, Troy West of
Burlington, North Carolina; a brother, Daonald Paul Davis; two sisters.
Mrs. Carol Davis Cochran of Morganton, and Miss Elizabeth Ann Davis of
Morganton.


Mrs. Mamie Davis

Mrs. Mamie Davis, 65, of Pennington died in a local hosptial Monday. Mrs.
Davis was a lifelong resident of Trinity County and a member of the
Pennington Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Pennington Baptist
Church, With Revs. A. .W. Ludlow, E. P. Coe and Gail Hogg officiating.
Burial was in the Mount Vernon Cemetery, near Ratcliff.

Survivors include the husband, Ben Davis of Pennington; a daughter, Mrs.
Norris Benton of Crockett; two brothers, J. T. Rice of Lufkin and N. D.
Rice of Kountze; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Collins of Lufkin and Miss Hewell
Rice of Cleveland; two grandsons, a great granchild and several nieces
andnephews.

Billy Lynn Davis

Funeral services for Billy Lynn Davis, 46, were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday
in the Waller Family Chapel.

Rev. W. F. Hughes officiated. Burial was in the Creek Cemetery.

Mr. Davis, a resident of Shepard, died Sept. 18 in Freeport. He was born
July 11, 1928 in Leon County and was a seaman. He was a veteran of the
Korean War.

Survivors include his father, Olan Davis of Riverside; two brothers,
Greenwood Davis of Merrill, Wis., and Larry Gene Davis of Houston.

Also, three sisters, Mrs. Esma Tilley of Shepard, Mrs. Fredna Tucker of
Tueson, Ariz., and Miss Cecile E. Davis of Crockett.
