Grigsby, Fay
Fay Grigsby, 89, of Kirbyville, died Monday, October 1, 1990 at Buna Nursing Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at magnolia Springs Cemetery in Magnolia Springs. She was a lifelong resident of Kirbyville. Survivors include sons, William Grigsby and E.E. “Toots” Grigsby, both of Kirbyville; a sister, Hershel Harris of Beaumont; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Grimes, Allen Bergman (Coon)
Funeral services for Allen Bergman (Coon) Grimes, 68, of Kirbyville, will be held at the Central Baptist Church of Kirbyville at 4 p.m. today under the direction of the J.O. Stringer Funeral Home of Jasper. Burial will be in the Kirbyville City Cemetery. The body will be at the Grimes residence until the time of the funeral. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Bell Grimes, Kirbyville; five daughters, Mrs. Barbara Day, Beaumont, Mrs. Bobbie Boyett, Silsbee, Mrs. Bonnie Tee, Houston, Mrs. Sue Cochran, Houston, and Mrs. Brenda Kay, Silsbee.

Grimes, Willie S.
Funeral for Willie S. Grimes, 85, of Kirbyville will be at 10 a.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial in Davis Cemetery of the Ct. Carmel Community. He died Saturday at his son’s home in Baytown after an illness. A native of Tyler County, he lived in Kirbyville 60 years and was a retired school bus driver. Survivors include a son, Walter S. Grimes of Baytown; two sisters, Lessie Broom of Dayton and Lela Futch of Baytown; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Griner, Milton E.
{Feb. 22, 1975}
Milton E. Griner, 68, died at the Mixson Memorial Clinic at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 1975, after a long illness. He was a native of Bronson, Tex., and had lived in Kirbyville the last 38 years. He was former owner and operator of the E.E. Stringer Funeral Home from 1943 to 1946 and had previously operated a funeral home in Newton, Tex. He was a member of the Kirbyville United Methodist Church where he was an honorary board member. He was honorary member of the Kirbyville Lions Club, former councilman and school board trustee, a member of the Nathan Corley Lodge No. 294, a member of the El Mina Shrine of Galveston, former member of National Selected Morticians and was a mortician for 41 years, former secretary of the Southeast Texas Funeral Directors Association, was the original crusade chairman of the South Jasper County American Cancer Society, and worked with this organization as long as his health permitted. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 24, at 6:30 p.m. in Kirbyville United Methodist Church with the Rev. John P. Rentfro, pastor of the Forest Heights United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls, officiating. Assisted by the Rev. Byron Boyett of the Kirbyville United Methodist Church and the Rev. Eugene Jonte of the First United Methodist Church of Silsbee. Survivors include his wife, Elma Stringer Griner of Kirbyville; two daughters, Juanita Stover of Silsbee and Margaret Mitchell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, James Griner of Newton, and four grandchildren, Earl Stover III, and Andrew Stover, Leslie Mitchell, and Wayne Mitchell. Pallbearers will be Troy Mitchell, Pat Adams, Prentiss and Crawford Wood, Earl Newman, Charles Herrington, Elton Pryor, Harry Watson, Toye Thomas. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. John T. Moore, Lynn Northrup, and Dr. Sam Copeland. In lieu of flowers the family requests a floral fund be established for weekly floral arrangements for the church services for the Kirbyville Methodist Church.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Ada Alodie Gruver, 92, will be at 2 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery in Port Arthur. She died Wednesday morning at Pine Tree Nursing Home in Longview. She was a native of Orange County and had lived in this area since 1956. Survivors include five sons, V. Allen Gruver of Dayton, Ivy Gruver of Mississippi, W.O. Gruver of Carthage, Ernest Gruver of Longview, C.L. Gruver of Alton, Ill.; two daughters, Irene Cleary of Kilgore, Jessie Runnels of Sour Lake.

Gruver, Thomas Allen
Funeral services for Thomas Allen Gruver, 86, of Call will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. J.R. Goodwin pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Pasadena, and the Re. Lloyd Maddox, pastor of the Victory Assembly of God Church in Kirbyville, will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Port Arthur with grandsons as pallbearers. Gruver died at 1 a.m. Friday in a Buna hospital after a short illness. He was a native of Virginia and had lived here nine years after retiring from the Sinclair Oil Co. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Alodie Lernell Gruver; two daughters, Mrs. Jim Clurg of Kilgore and Mrs. Ira Runnels of Sour Lake; five sons, E.A. Gruver of Dayton, Ivy Gruver of Mississippi, W.O. Gruver of Carthage, Ernest Gruver of Longview and C.L. Gruver of Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

NEWTON – Clara I. Gunter, 94, of Silsbee died at 1 p.m. Saturday at Silsbee Convalescent Center after an illness. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Newton with burial in Newton Cemetery under the direction of Griner Funeral Home. She was a lifelong resident of Newton. Survivors include a son, T.B. Gunter of Cleveland, Texas; four daughters, Thelma Barrum of Houston, Alma Miller of Newton, Lula Mae Fuller of Silsbee and Lera Wheeler of Fort Worth; sister, Minnie Hudgins of Houston; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Joe S. Gunter, 63, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Central Baptist Church with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 6 a.m. Monday in his residence. He was a Kirbyville native and was a retired pipefitter. Survivors include his wife, Vernon Wright Gunter; two sons, James Gunter of McLean, Va., and Jerry Gunter of Conroe; his mother, Ella Gunter of Buna; one brother, Bill Gunter of Beaumont, and two grandchildren.

Gunter, Ollie
Ollie Gunter, 79, of Kirbyville died March 5 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. A longtime resident of Beaumont, she lived in Kirbyville many years and was a retired supervisor from Southwestern Bell in Beaumont. Survivors include her husband, A.L. "Pete" Gunter of Kirbyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Guthrie, Harold
Harold Guthrie, 59, of Newton died July 28, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Lewis Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Laurel, Miss., he lived in Newton most of his life and was a welder. Survivors include his son, Curtis Guthrie of Newton; and sister, Sandra McClendon of Kirbyville.

Guthrie, Ruth
Ruth Guthrie, 86, of Lewis Chapel died Nov. 20, 2000, at Memorial Hospital in Lufkin. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Lewis Chapel Cemetery. A native of Laurel, Miss., she lived in Newton County most of her life. Survivors include her sons, Harold Guthrie of Newton and Garland Guthrie of Coldspring; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and several great great-grandchildren.

Charles Guy, 54, of Kirbyville died Tuesday, December 19, 1995 at his residence. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Bean Cemetery. He was a lifelong resident of Kirbyville and a Vietnam War U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his mother, Viola Guy of Kirbyville; son, Gregory Guy of Brookeland; daughter, Tina Donahoe of Brookeland; brothers, Arthur Douglas Guy, Robert Samuel “Sam” Guy and Raymond Guy, all of Silsbee, and Teddy Guy of Jacksonville; sisters, Doris Linda McNaughten of Silsbee and Brenda Groover of Kirbyville; and two grandchildren.

Irma Guy, 97, of Kirbyville died Jan. 24, 2001, at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in McGregor. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. A lifelong resident of Kirbyville, she was a retired Kirbyville Independent School District teacher. Survivors include her son, C.R. Guy of Kirbyville; daughters, Marie Thompson of Bryan and Sue Ethridge of Oglesby; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

William Thomas Guy, 66, of Kirbyville died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after an illness. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial in Bean Cemetery. A native of Jasper, he lived in Kirbyville most of his life, was a retired automobile mechanic and a World War II Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Viola Gurran Guy of Kirbyville; two daughters, Doris McNaughten of Silsbee and Brenda Groover of Kirbyville; five sons, Charles Guy, Sam Guy, and Teddy Guy, all of Kirbyville, Arthur Douglas Guy of Silsbee and Sgt. Raymond Guy of Fort Ard, Calif.; two sisters, Ruby Charlton of Kirbyville and Mary Harris of Orange; and 22 grandchildren.

Funeral services for Dewey Golden, 68, of Kirbyville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Kirbyville City Cemetery. He died about 5 p.m. Friday in Newton County Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A native of Greenville, Miss. He had lived here since 1958 and had operated a café before he became ill. He was a member of the Kirbyville Methodist Church. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Louise Golden; two daughters, Mrs. Juanita Cox and Mrs. Ella Mae Acker, both of Richmond; two sons, Harry Golden of Pasadena and A.D. Golden of Lumberton; three sisters Lillian Williams of Spring Branch, Mrs. Estelle Sparks of Starks and Mrs. Pearl Price, both of California; two brothers, Mathew Golden of El Reno, Okla., and Herschel Golden of California, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Goodman died at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Baptist Hospital. A native of Farrsville, she had lived in Beaumont 58 years. Survivors include two sons, Taylor R. Goodman of Houston and Charles W. Goodman of Beaumont; her daughter, Beaurie Broussard of Beaumont; two brothers, W.T. Wilson of Conroe and Edward T. Wilson of Kirbyville; two sisters, Mrs. John Richardson of Jasper and Mrs. W.B. Greenwood of Newton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

D. Swinney Gray, 90, of Newton died Nov. 29, 2001, at Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Newton with burial at Burkeville Cemetery in Burkeville under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Newton, he was a retired teacher and county school superintendent. He was also a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran. Survivors include his wife, Adelle Gray of Newton; daughter, Sissy Rawson of Jasper; son, Barry Gray of Friendswood; sister, Billie Burch of Houston; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Gray, Denny
KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Denny Gray, 81, was to be Thursday at the Call Pentecostal Church with burial in Bean Cemetery under the direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Mary Dickerson hospital after an illness. A native of Newton County, he had lived most of his life there and was a retired sawmill worker. Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn Mangum of Kirbyville, Louise Roach of Call, and Dorothy Wilson of Orange; two sons, R.T. Gray of Dayton and R.B. Gray of Corinth, Miss.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gray, Lydia Bell
NEWTON – Funeral for Lydia Bell Gray, 74, of Newton will be at 3 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Newton with burial in the Newton Cemetery under the direction of Griner Funeral Home. She died at September 21, 1979 at 8:30 a.m. in Newton County Memorial Hospital after an illness. A native of Rockland, she lived in Newton many years and was a retired owner of the Texas Cafe. Survivors include a son, Charles Gray of Newton; two step-sons, William Gray of Burlington, Wash., and George Gray of Pasadena; a daughter, Mary Fortenberry of Newton; two brothers, Joe Sims of Beaumont and John H. Sims of Lafayette; two sisters, Louise Ferguson of Newton and Augusta Gregg of Beaumont; a half-sister, Mattie Smallwood of Kirbyville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She died Wednesday, May 22, 1985 at Baptist Hospital after an illness. A native of Remlin, Texas, she lived in Kirbyville 41 years. KIRBYVILLE – Ruth Causey Green, 70, of Kirbyville died at 1 a.m. Thursday in Mixon Hospital after an illness. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. Mrs. Green, a Kirbyville native, had lived in Brownsville for many years before moving back to Kirbyville five years ago. She was a retired bookkeeper. Survivors include a son, David Martin of Arlington; three brothers, Edgar Causey of Salinas, Calif., Arch Causey of Port Isabel and Tom Causey of El Paso; and three sisters, Gladys Lyons of Fort Worth, and Lexie Herndon and Erma Boyette of Kirbyville; and three grandchildren.

Greenwood, Bessie
NEWTON – Funeral for Bessie Greenwood, 85, of Newton will be at 2 p.m. today at the First United Methodist Church with burial in Newton City Cemetery under the direction of Griner Funeral Home. She died at 10 a.m. Sunday, September 30, 1979 in Newton County Memorial Hospital after an illness. Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Coon of Odessa, Texas and Earle Leigh Hardy of Houston; two brothers, Ed Wilson of Kirbyville and Willie Wilson of Conroe, Texas; one sister, Penelope Richardson of Jasper; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lillie Belle Griffin, 86, of Kirbyville died Dec. 12, 2000, at her residence. Cremation arrangements were handled by E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville, with burial at a later date at Dry Valley Cemetery in Van Buren, Mo. A native of Hazlehurst, Miss., and a former longtime resident of Brandon, Mo., she lived in Kirbyville 18 months and was a retired nurse. Survivors include her son, John R. Griffin of Kirbyville; brothers, John Kemph Jr. of Auburn, Ala., James Kemph of Crystal Springs, Miss., and A.J. Kemph of San Diego; sisters, Mary Manes of Kilgore and Callie Kemph of Jackson, Miss.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ray Griffith, 46, of Kirbyville will be at 10:30 a.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holley Grove Cemetery near Anacoco, La. Griffith died at 9:40 a.m. Monday, January 21, 1974 in a Houston hospital. A native of Anacoco, he was a carpenter. Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Griffith of Port Arthur, and Ronald Dale Griffith of Orange; two daughters, Shelia Kute of Spring Valley, and Tonia Griffith of Orange; his mother, Gertie Griffith of Kirbyville, and one sister Doris Horn of Anacoco.

E.E. “Toots” Grigsby, 67, of Kirbyville died Sunday, November 21, 1993 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Today at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery. A native of Jasper, he lived most of his life in the Kirbyville area and was a retired welder for U.S. Steel in Orange. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Grigsby of Kirbyville; daughter, Pamela Hardy of Rosevine; brother, William Grigsby of Kirbyville; and six grandchildren.
