KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Tommie S. Holmes, 62, will be at 2 p.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Trout Creek Cemetery.
He died at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Newton County Hospital after a short illness. A native of Newton County, Holmes was a former member of the Call School Board and the Newton County Hospital Board of Directors.
Survivors include his wife, Lou Evelyn Gordon Holmes of Call; two daughters, Tommie Lou Mitchell of Angleton and Judy Ann Blancet of Pasadena; one son, Tom Gordon Holmes of Centerville; four sisters, Euna Heeler of Wildwood, Violet Gordon of Beaumont, Mary Turner of Hamshire, and Rosa Richardson of Buna, and one brother, Jack Holmes of Call.
Hooks, Lizzie Hawthorne

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Lizzie Hawthorne Hooks, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Friendship Cemetery near Roganville under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.
She died about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper. A native of the Zerath community near Kirbyville, she was a lifelong resident there.
Survivors include four daughters, Hattie Masselli of Port Acres, Susie Broussard and Mary Melbaline Mondello, both of Port Arthur, and Finetta Cochran of Kirbyville; five sons, Allen, Eldridge, James Ray, Oneal and Parvin Hooks, all of Kirbyville, and three brothers, Tommy and Polk Hawthorne, both of Roganville, and Zora Hawthorne of Port Arthur.

BLEAKWOOD – Funeral services for Pauline Herrin Hooks, 54, of Bleakwood will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville.
She died at 2 a.m. Friday in her home after a short illness. She was a lifelong resident of Newton County.
Survivors are her husband, Allen Hooks, the justice of the peace for Precinct 5 Newton County; 7 sons, Joe Allen, Noner Day, Timmie and Lynn Hooks, all of Kirbyville, Joe Edward Hooks of Nederland and Claude Hooks of Avenger, William R. Hooks of Houston; one daughter, Sandra Hilman of Hutton, La.; four brothers, Lonnie Herrin of Buna, Arthur Herrin of Bleakwood, Don Herrin of Highlands, and Johnnie Herrin of Channelview; one sister, Mattie Herrin of Buna.

R.D. Hooks, 90, of Kirbyville died July 26, 2001, at Jasper Convalescent Center in Jasper.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at E.E. Stringer Funeral home in Kirbyville with burial at Friendship Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Jasper County, he was a retired Kirbyville School District bus driver.
Survivors include his son, James Hooks of Buna; daughter, Pat Brooks of Kirbyville; sister, Iola Pulliam of Kirbyville; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Hooks, William Ralph “Billy”
Funeral for William Ralph “Billy” Hooks, 34, of Houston will be at 2 p.m. today at Lewis Chapel Church in Bleakwood with burial in Bleakwood Cemetery under the direction of Kirbyville Memorial Funeral Home.
He died Monday, January 11, 1987 at his home after an illness.
A native and longtime resident of Bleakwood, he lived in Houston a number of years and was a beautician.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Allen and Marie Hooks of Bleakwood; six brothers, Lynn Hooks of Blanco, Claude Hooks of Dayton, Joe Edward Hooks of Nederland, and N.D. Hooks, Joe Allen Hooks, Timmy Hooks and Curtis Jones, all of Kirbyville; and two sisters, Sandra Hillman of Hutton, La. and Lynn Wood of Kirbyville.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for George Dewey Hoosier, 69, of Hemphill will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Bean Cemetery.
Hoosier died 8:30 a.m. Friday at Mixson Memorial Hospital in Kirbyville. He was a native of Fields, La., and lived in the Kirbyville area most of his life. He lived in Hemphill one year.
Survivors include his wife, Mertie Denman Hoosier; two sons, Terrell Hoosier of Aurora, Ore., and Carroll Hoosier of Call; one stepson, James Denman of Fairbanks, Ala.; five stepdaughters, Virginia Watson of Beaumont, Gladys Sheffield of Baytown, Geraldine Manning of Kirbyville, Frances Parks and Melda Walker, both of Silsbee; and one brother, John Hoosier of Vidor.
Hopp, Jewel Andress
Funeral service for Jewel Andress Hopp was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, 1980 in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Charles Burchett, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Kirbyville, officiating. Burial was in Kirbyville Cemetery.
Mrs. Hopp died at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday in Orange Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Pineland and had lived in Kirbyville since 1950.
She is survived by four brothers, Everett Andress and Earl Andress, both of Longview, E.R. Andress and E.H. Andress, both of Orange, and one sister, Edith Segura of Beaumont.

JASPER – Funeral for Howell Douglas Hodges, 71, of Jasper will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Stringer-Ward Funeral Home with burial at 2 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves.
He died at noon Friday at his business.
A native of Port Arthur, he had lived in Jasper for 21 years, and was the owner of Hodges Smokehouse. In Port Arthur he had been employed with Shorty Matthews Grocery Store.
Survivors include his wife, Alma O. Hodges of Jasper; two sons, Klein M. Hodges of Port Arthur and Lon L. Marshall of Jasper; three sisters, Annie Mae Wilson of Newton, Jimmie Robins and Valentine Delik, both of Jasper; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Hoffpauir, Rex Sr.
Rex Hoffpauir Sr., 62, of Vidor died Jan. 3, 2001, at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Eastgate United Pentecostal Church in Vidor with burial at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today at the church.
A native of Beaumont, he lived in Vidor 27 years and was a retired Beaumont Fire Department captain.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Hoffpauir of Vidor; sons, Rex Hoffpauir Jr. of Evadale and David Hoffpauir and Mike Hoffpauir, both of Vidor; daughter, Lori Dodge Gross of Lumberton; brother, Ralph Hoffpauir of Spurger; and 12 grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – William Everett Holley, 41, of Kirbyville died at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, September 13, 1980 at his home in a fire.

A lifelong resident of Kirbyville, he was a warehouse manager for a steel firm and was a Navy veteran.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Cecil Raymond Hollis, 66, of Kirbyville will be at 11 a.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery.
He died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 1980 at Methodist Hospital in Houston after an illness.
A native of Houston County, he had lived in Kirbyville most of his life and was a retired furniture and hardware salesman.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Oliver Hollis of Kirbyville; two daughters, Judy Dunn and Betsy Calma, both of Baytown; a son, Ross Moran of Galveston; a sister, Clara Beathard of Kirbyville; and six grandchildren.

Glenn Hollis, 83, of Jasper died Jan. 1, 2002, at his residence.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Park Cemetery in Jasper under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Trevat, he was a longtime resident of Jasper, owner and operator of Hollis Tires and a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include sons, G.M. "Buddy" Hollis and M.L. "Butch" Hollis, both of Jasper; daughters, Peggy Hollis Dougharty and Sue Hollis Gee, both of Jasper; brothers, Crit Hollis and Burl Hollis, both of Huntsville, Jay Hollis of Humble, Mack Hollis of Spring and Wilbur Hollis of Houston; sister, Lillie Faye Fowler of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

He died at 9 a.m. Friday in a Houston hospital.
He was a native of Newton County and a lifelong area resident. He was a farmer.

She is survived by 2 sons, Thomas Carroll Holmes of DeWitt, AR. and Eddie Holmes of Kirbyville; 3 daughters, Lou Ella Russell of Kirbyville; Johnny Sue Jones of Kirbyville and Kathy Dale Husbands of Kirbyville; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She died Tuesday, April 23, 1985 at Newton County Hospital after an illness.
A native of Buna, she lived in Call most of her life and was the retired operator of a grocery store in the Hartburg-Trout Creek Community area.

Holmes died at 5:30 p.m. Friday, September 22, 1972 in the Newton County Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Call and a retired welder.
