Mason, Mary Emma Jane
Mrs. Mary Jennie Mason, 86, died Friday, February 9, 1962 about 2 a.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Essie Thompson in the Bon Ami community near Kirbyville.
She had been ill for some time.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Thompson home. Rev. Roy Harrell of Newton and Rev. Jack Lee of Jasper, Baptist ministers, will officiate. Burial will be in the Friendship Cemetery near Roganville directed by E.E. Stringer Funeral Home of Kirbyville.
Mrs. Mason was born in Sabine County and was the widow of the late Shad Mason. She had lived in the Bon Ami community for the past 50 years and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter and one sister, Mrs. Sam Mason; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and eight great great-grandchildren.
Mason, Ray
Funeral arrangements for Ray Mason, 62, of Kirbyville, will be announced by Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home.
Mr. Mason died Saturday, September 23, 1972 in a Langeon, N.D. hospital. He was employed there as an electrician. Mason served as Kirbyville chief of police for a number of years.
Among survivors are his wife, Mrs. Chloie Mason; one daughter, Mrs. Melinda Carruth; one son, Allen Ray Mason, both of Kirbyville.
Mason, Robert “Bob”
Robert “Bob” Mason, 70, of Kirbyville died Tuesday, November 1, 1994 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery.
A native of Sabine County, he had lived most of his life in Kirbyville and was owner/operator of Mason’s Meat Market. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Mason of Kirbyville; daughters, Bobby Hall of Kirbyville, Joyce Smith of Newton and Betty Wells of Jasper; brothers, Marcus Mason of Vidor, Billy Mason of Pineland and Valton Mason of Pasadena; sisters, Hazel Williams of Madisonville and Laverne Harris of Wills Point; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Mason, Markus Lafayette “Shad”
Markus Lafayette "Shad" Mason, 84, died in the home of a daughter, Mrs. T.M. Thompson in Kirbyville, about 10 o'clock Saturday morning, November 8, 1952. He had been an invalid for many years.
A native of Sabine County, he had lived in Kirbyville for 38 years. He was a member of the North Bonami Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Thompson home, with Rev. Roy Harrell and Rev. Herschel Humphrey, Baptist ministers, officiating. Burial will be in the Friendship cemetery, near Roganville, under direction of E.E. Stringer funeral home of Kirbyville.
Surviving, besides his daughter, are his wife and a son, N.J. Mason, both of Kirbyville; three brothers, Robert, of Clarendon, Poll of Milam and Sam of Yellowpine; four sisters, Mrs. Molly Self, Mrs. Sally Smith, both of Milam, Mrs. Pearl Hulbert of Dallas, Mrs. Nannie Smith of Clarendon; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mason, William T. “Billy”
William T. “Billy” Mason, 70, of Pineland died February 10, 1997 at Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Starr Funeral Home in Hemphill with burial at Pinehill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
A native of Jasper, he lived in Pineland most of his life and was a retired forest tree technician.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Mason of Pineland; son, Steven Ray Mason of Hemphill; brothers, Marcus Mason of Vidor and Valton Mason of Pasadena; sisters, Laverne Harris of Wills Point and Hazel Beasley of Midway; and three grandchildren.

V.T. MASON, 72 DIES OF SEIZURE
Jasper Residents’ Rites Will Be Tuesday At 10
JASPER (Spl) – Funeral services for V.T. Mason, 72, of Jasper will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in J.O. Stringer Funeral Home. Masonic graveside services will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in Hemphill.
Mason died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday of an apparent heart attack while attending the Friendship Baptist Church homecoming in Hemphill.
Mason was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper and the Littletown Fowler Masonic Lodge in Hemphill. He was also a former member of the Jasper Lions Club, the Jasper Fire Department and the Chamber of Commerce. He taught school in Sabine County and at one time was the manager and co-owner of Mason Furniture Co. in Jasper.
Mason retired from the Texas Employment Commission in 1961 after 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Effie Mason; his mother, Mrs. Dora Mason of Dallas, and six brothers, Carvy and Loy Mason, both of Dallas, Eldon and Herman Mason, both of Center and Rufus and William A. Mason, both of Fort Worth.
Mattox, Connie
Funeral services for Miss Connie Mattox, 18, of Kirbyville were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the New Hope Baptist Church. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Newton County under direction of Coleman’s Mortuary.
She died Friday, July 16, 1973 in a Galveston hospital.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Lola Mattox; two sisters, Misses Veronica and Dorothy Mattox; and two brothers, Anthony and Harry Mattox, all of Kirbyville.
John Farr of Kirbyville is her Grandfather.
Maxwell, Joseph Horace
A 77-year-old man was killed at about 5 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 1972 when he walked into the side of a trailer-truck at the intersection of F.M. 1004 and Highway 96 at Call Junction.
According to J.B. Sanders, Justice of the Peace of Precinct 3 who held an inquest, Joseph Horace Maxwell of Call Junction walked into the truck. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
Assisting with the inquest were Deputy Sheriff Carlton Dougharty of Kirbyville, Deputy Sheriff E.C. Cook, of Buna and Highway Patrolman R.D. Cox.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. A.A. Berryman, minister of the Kirbyville Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will be in the Kirbyville City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Frazier, Herman Whitehead, Corbitt Whitehead, Clarence Lamb and Elroy Fuller.
A native of Lee County, he was a retired chef, was a member of the Kirbyville, Church of Christ, was a veteran of W.W.1 and had lived in Kirbyville for 10 years.
Survivors are two sons, Joseph and Roland Maxwell, both of Houston; one brother, Milton Maxwell, of Houston; two sisters, Mrs. Tom Frazier of Silsbee, and Mrs. Evelyn Ritter of Gunter.
Mayo, Albert E.
Funeral services for Albert Ernest Mayo, 69, a Jasper native, were Monday at the Howard-Glendale Funeral Home near Houston with Masonic rites at San Jacinto Memorial Park.
He was active for many years in state and area gospel singing groups, including the Neches Valley Singers. He died March 13.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Delilah Mayo of Houston; a sister, and nieces and nephews.
Marshall, Van Daniel

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Van Daniel Marshall, 79, of Kirbyville will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Bethel Chapel Cemetery in Pineland.
Marshall died at 6 p.m. Sunday in Beaumont Medical Surgical Hospital. A native of San Augustine County, he had formerly lived in Pineland for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Gray Marshall of Kirbyville; three sons, Jessie Marshall of Kirbyville, Maurice Marshall of McLean and Louie Marshall of Aztec, N.M., four daughters, Opal Lowe of Lumberton, Maudie Lee Ford of Deming, N.M., Maurine Lowe of Lufkin and Alice Peters of Kirbyville; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Martin, Benjamin Wiley
KIRBYVILLE, Oct. 17, 1959
Benjamin Wiley Martin, 81, widely known Southeast Texas educator and retired superintendent of the Kirbyville schools, died in a Beaumont hospital Saturday about noon following a lingering illness.
Mr. Martin was superintendent of the Kirbyville schools for35 years and retired in 1947. During his tenure he raised the standards of the schools to such an extent that it had more units of affiliation with the State Department of Education than any other school on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad from Beaumont to Longview.
Mr. Martin was born in Colmesneil and was the son of the Rev. and Mrs. John A. Martin.
He attended school at Sunnydell and obtained his first teaching certificate when he was 18 by taking the state examination. He taught his first school in Tyler County. He taught in other schools in that area and in San Augustine and in Newton before coming to Kirbyville.
Martin, Lurleene Perkins
Lurleene Perkins Martin, 80, of Kirbyville died Friday, December 7, 1990 at Silsbee Doctors Hospital.
Funeral was at 2 pm. Sunday, December 9, at First United Methodist Church in Kirbyville Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.
A native of Jasper, she lived in Kirbyville 45 years and was former owner of an appliance store.
Survivors include brother, Elbert Perkins of Jasper.
Martin, R.B. “Dick"
R.B. “Dick” Martin, 82, of Kirbyville died Friday, November 9, 1990 at Avalon Place Nursing Home in Kirbyville.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 11, at United Methodist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.
A native of San Augustine, he lived in Kirbyville 76 years and was a former teacher and administrator. He also served as superintendent at both Sabine Pass and Deweyville schools. He also owned and operated Martin and Woods Appliance in Kirbyville for several years. He was active in the Kirbyville United Methodist Church and Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lurleene Perkins Martin of Kirbyville; and brothers, Everette A Martin of Beaumont and Weyman E. Martin of Orange.

Everett L. Marze, 82, of Call died Dec. 12, 2001, at Avalon Place in Kirbyville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Hargrove Memorial Building at Antioch Cemetery in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville.
A native of Florien, La., he lived in Call 62 years, was a retired Visador lumber inspector in Jasper and World War II U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his son, Donnie Marze of Mauriceville; daughters, Lavon Clay and Vondol Bailey, both of Kirbyville; brothers, Archie Marze of Humble and Alvin Marze of Cleveland; sisters, Armedia Taylor and Alma Erwin, both of Anacoco, La., Roxie Miller of Morefield, Va., Marie Chaney of Denver, Colo., Sadie Bowman and Carolann Bowman, both of Westlake, La., Josie Harper of Frierson, La., and Isabelle Eaves and Celestia Terrell, both of Merryville, La.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE (Spl) – Funeral services for J.W. Mason, 26, of Houston, former Kirbyville resident, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Causey-Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. The Rev. C.C. Ballard, pastor of Faith Pentecostal Tabernacle, will officiate. Burial will be in Bean Cemetery.
Mason died at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday from an electrical shock while working in Houston. He was born in Call and had lived in the Kirbyville area until about five years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Mason; a son, Jerry Wayne Mason of Houston; his father, Marvin Mason of Houston; his mother, Mrs. Maudell Dodson of Orange; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Holmes of Ft. Hood, Tex. And Miss Ann Mason of Orange, and his grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Hamilton of Newton.
Mason, Marvin O’Neal
Funeral for Marvin O’Neal Mason, 72, of Kirbyville will be at 2 p.m. today at Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville with burial in Bob Herrin Cemetery in Newton County under the direction of Kirbyville Memorial Funeral Home in Kirbyville.
He died Sunday, May 22, 1988 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after an illness.
A native of Sabine County, he lived in the Kirbyville area 40 years and was a retired Butcher.
Survivors include his wife, Maudie Mason; and mother, Ethel Hamilton, both of Kirbyville; two sons, W.R. Dodson of Kirbyville and Jack Dodson of Nederland; six daughters, Mary Yvonne Holmes of Centerville, Ann Chauvin of Brookhaven, Miss., Mary Lee Fordyce of Riverside, Virginia Lewis and Sarah Chamberlin, both of Kirbyville, and Pauline Hubbs of Henrietta, Okla.; four brothers, Marcus Mason of Hemphill, Billy Mason of Bronson, Robert Mason of Kirbyville and Valton Mason of Pasadena; three sisters, Ferle Edgar of Hemphill, Hazel Williams of Midway and Laverne Stanton of Wills Point; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
