Funeral services for Myrtle Griffin Sheffield, 90 of Jasper, will be Dec.7 at 2 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home with burial to follow at Friendship Cemetery in Roganville. Visitation will be held on Dec. 6 from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Forest Oaks Funeral Home. She passed away Dec. 4 at her residence. A native of Newton County, she was a life long resident of Jasper and a member of Peachtree Baptist Church. Survivors include her sister, Fronia Cox of Seminole and her nephew Audie Cox also of Seminole. In lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Peachtree Baptist Church, 216 FM 254, Jasper, Texas 75951. Services under the direction of Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper.

Shelton, Vada Chloe
Funeral service for Vada Chloe Shelton of Longview was held Saturday, February 5, 1983 at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Adams officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. She died Thursday in a Longview hospital following a lengthy illness. She was a native of Ranger, Texas, and had lived in Longview for 14 years. She was a former resident of Kirbyville. Survivors include her mother, Leota Gleason Arney of Jayton; one son, Paul Vern Shelton of Natchitoches, Louisiana; two daughters, Patricia Wilson of Kirbyville and Nicki Lynn Steed of Longview; two brothers, T. Robert Arney of Schenectady, New York, and Guy Lewis Arney of Jayton; a sister, Marjorie Howton of Fort Worth; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service for Rev. William Knox Shelton, 57, was held Dec. 21, 1982 at Lakeview Gardens Funeral Home in Longview with the Rev. Jim Adams officiating. He died Dec. 19 at his home after a sudden illness. A former resident of Kirbyville, and former pastor of Trout Creek Missionary Baptist Church, he had resided in Longview for the past 13 years and was pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Longview. He is survived by his wife, Vada Shelton of Longview; a son, Paul Shelton of Natchitoches, la.; two daughters, Patricia Wilson of Kirbyville and Nicki Steed of Longview; his mother, Mrs. Willie Shelton of Austin; two brothers, A.J. Shelton of Austin and Charles Shelton of Mesquite; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Bruce R. Sheffield, 78, Roganville will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Friendship Baptist Church near Roganville with Rev. John P. Mott & Rev. Troy E. Self officiating. Funeral services will be under the direction of Causey E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Masonic rights will follow in the Friendship Cemetery. Mr. Sheffield died at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 17, in Jasper Memorial Hospital after an illness. He was a native & lifelong resident of Roganville. He was retired from Kirby Lumber Company, he was a member and deacon at North Bonami Missionary Baptist Church and a member of Nathan Corley Masonic Lodge #195, AF & AM in Kirbyville. He is survived by his wife, Olinie Hawthorne Sheffield of Roganville: two sons, James E.(Budd) Sheffield of Lumberton & Hugh Beaver of Kirbyville; three daughters, Elsie Sue Jones of Nederland, Shirley Parker of Houston, and Barbara Smith of Kirbyville; one brother, Rev. Bob E. Sheffield of Huntsville; two sister, Esther Behannon and Lena Burnett both of Roganville; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Billy Gene Sanders, 72, of Kirbyville, died Wednesday January 30, 2002 in Groves. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday February 2, 2002 at Broussard's Mortuary in Nederland with Chaplain David Bleakley officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Trout Creek Cemetery in Kirbyville. A gathering of friends will take place from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. A native of Homer, Louisiana he had lived in Port Arthur for 52 years and was a retired Boilermaker and Maintenance Supervisor at Gulf Oil Corporation in Port Arthur for 34 years. Survivors include his sons and their wives, Pete and Vonnie Sanders of Groves, Billy Stewart Sanders of Nederland, Kevin and Agnes Sanders of Port Arthur, daughter Dianne Fontenot of Kirbyville, his brothers and their wives, George and Lil Sanders, Raymond and Peg Sanders, Troy and Iris Sanders all of Homer, Louisiana, Winfred and Helen Sanders of California, 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. Mr. Sanders was prece ded in death by his younger brother Charlie Drew.

Funeral services for T. Russell Sanders, 82, of Kirbyville will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Kirbyville First Baptist Church where he had served as a deacon for many years. The Reverends Jimmy Burks of Amelia and Marcus Greene of Kirbyville will officiate. Burial will be in the Kirbyville City Cemetery directed by Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be James W. Davis, M.M. Davis, Keith Barnett, J.R. Martin, Marlin Withers and W.L. Skinner. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons of the First Baptist Church, members of the Men's Downtown Bible Class and the Volunteer Fire Department. He died Sunday, July 2, 1972 in a Beaumont hospital. A native of Newton County, he was a retired merchant and was preceded in death by his wife, the late Evie Barnett Sanders. Survivors include a son, Judd (Kuhn) Sanders, Kirbyville and one grandson, Rusty Sanders.

Jack M. Sassine, 79, of Jasper died Wednesday, December 19, 1990 at Hines Health Care Center in Jasper. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Jasper United Pentecostal Church with burial at Kirbyville City Cemetery. A native of Newton County and a former resident of Kirbyville and Beaumont, he lived in Jasper 3 ½ years and was a self-employed butcher for over 30 years, having owned and operated Sassine Packing Co. in Kirbyville for over 15 years. Survivors include his wife, Iola Morgan Sassine of Jasper; and a sister, Julia Goerner of San Antonio.

L.J. "Mutt’’ Satterwhite, 67, of Kirbyville died Aug. 20, 2001, in Kirbyville. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Call Junction United Pentecostal Church in Call with burial at Kirbyville Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Newton, he lived in the Kirbyville area most of his life and was a retired car salesman. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Satterwhite of Kirbyville; sons, Ricky Satterwhite and Larry Satterwhite, both of Houston, Ray Satterwhite of Newton and Heath Satterwhite of Kirbyville; daughters, Terry McNeely of Silsbee, Tammy Brown of Jasper, Jana Powell of Kirbyville, Melanie Crouch of Houston and Missy Cormier of Fort Polk, La.; brothers, A.J. KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Zillah Thurman Sawyer, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. She died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Buna Nursing Home. A native of Call, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Survivors include three stepsons, Monroe Neel of Vallejo, Calif., Bruce Neel of Shreveport and R.M. Neel of Nederland; two stepdaughters, Vivian Sheffield of Houston and Virginia Wells of Silsbee; one Brother, Thomas Thurman of Kirbyville, and one sister, Lillie Claude of Jasper.

Archie J. Scott, 69, of Silsbee died at 1 a.m. Wednesday at his residence in Silsbee after a lengthy illness. He was a native of Kirbyville, the son of the late Law and Dora Scott and had lived in Silsbee for the past 22 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, serving as a member of the administrative board and an active member of the men’s Sunday school class. He was a member of Pipefitter’s Local 195 in Nederland. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. R. Eugene Jonte, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Farmer Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, Ida Scott of Silsbee; five daughters, Dora Bell Damuth of Magnolia. Shirley Ann Goodloe of Roswell, N.M., Elly Landgraf, Theresa Cunningham and Melissa Scott, all of Silsbee; two sisters, Gladys Singletary of Port Arthur and Corinne Roberts of Kirbyville; two brothers, Carl and Vernon Scott, both of Kirbyville, and six grandchildren. Pallbearers will be C.F. Walker, M.E. Moore, Harmon Weathersby, Leon Boyd, Hebert Elmore and Gus Dunbar. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of the men’s Sunday school class of the first United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in the Kirbyville State Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Scott died at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 1973 in a Silsbee hospital. He was commissioner of Jefferson County Precinct No 3 for 12 years. He was a retired farmer and stockman. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Hollie Singletary, Port Arthur, Mrs. Corrine Roberts, Kirbyville; three sons, Carl and Vernon Scott, both of Kirbyville; and one brother, John Scott, Kirbyville.

Self, Francis “Tex”
Francis "Tex’’ Self, 71, of Kirbyville died Sunday, February 6, 2000 at Christus Jasper Memorial Hospital in Jasper. A native of Leesville and former resident of Alaska and Hawaii, he lived in Kirbyville four years and was a retired heavy equipment operator with Local No. 302 in Seattle, Wash., and was employed as a security officer for Trace Security Company. He was also a U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Elfriede Self of Kirbyville; sons, Robert Francis Self of Oceanview, Hawaii and Ronald Marion Self of Kirbyville; brothers, Pete Self of San Antonio and Douglas Self of DeRidder, La.; sisters, Lou Trahan of Lake Charles, La., Virginia Newman of Leesville, La., and Linda Cal Piper of Alaska; one grandson; and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Sellers died at about 10 p.m. Monday in her son’s home after a long illness. A native of Broaddus, she lived most of her life in Jasper and Kirbyville. Survivors include one son, Wallace Wiltshire of Kirbyville; one daughter, Patsy Martin of Nacogdoches; one brother, Lewis Rigsby of Dallas, and four sisters, Bernice Norwood of San Augustine, Ruby Greer of Dayton, Doris Johnson of San Antonio and Olivia Gibson of Nacogdoches.

Fred "Buddy’’ Senigal Sr., 68, of Beaumont died July 28, 2001, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church with entombment at Live Oak Cemetery Mausoleum under the direction of Community Funeral Chapel on Irma Street. Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 at the church. A lifelong resident of Beaumont, he was a retired Dresser Ideco shop supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Marie Rose Senigal of Beaumont; sons, Fred Senigal Jr. of Beaumont and Eric Senigal of Austin; daughters, Wilma Senigal-Vaughn of Beaumont and Elaine Jones of Austin; and five grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Erma Kelley Sheffield; two sisters, Esta Bohannon of Roganville and Lena Burnett of Newton, and two brothers, Bob Sheffield of Huntsville and Bruce Sheffield of Roganville.
