Glawson, Mark Kevin
Funeral for Mark Kevin Glawson, 17, of Kirbyville will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Kirbyville Memorial Funeral Home with burial in Magnolia Springs Cemetery. He died Saturday, October 31, 1987 in an automobile accident near Jasper. A native of Baytown, he lived most of his life in the Kirbyville area and was a senior at Kirbyville High School. Survivors include his parents, Gilbert and Glenda Glawson of Kirbyville; a brother, Mike Glawson of Kirbyville; a sister, Patty Wilson of Conroe; and his grandparents, A.E. Red” and Stella Crawford of Kirbyville.

Glawson, Michael Don
Michael Don Glawson, 31, of Evadale died Wednesday, October 25, 1995 at his residence. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Kirbyville Missionary Baptist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Magnolia Springs Cemetery under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. A native of Tyler and former longtime resident of Kirbyville; he lived in Evadale two months. He was a security guard for Temple Inland in Evadale and a former Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy. Survivors include his parents, Gilbert and Glenda Glawson of Kirbyville; sister, Patty Wilson of Conroe; grandmother, Stella Crofford of Kirbyville; and a nephew.

Glenn, George Melvin Sr.
George Melvin Glenn Sr., 67, of Kirbyville died Thursday at a Georgia hospital. Funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Beulah Springs Baptist Church in Beulah Springs with burial in Beulah Springs Cemetery under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper. A native of Jasper, he lived in the Kirbyville area all of his life, was a retired pipe fitter for Local 195 in Beaumont and was a U.S Coast Guard veteran. Survivors include his wife, Fannie Marie Glenn of Kirbyville; sons, George Melvin Glenn Jr. of Magnolia Springs, and Danny Dale Glenn and Kenneth Daren Glenn, both of Kirbyville; daughters, Shirley Inez Odom of Kirbyville, and Mattie Sue Dubois and Nancy Marie Johnson, both of Douglasville, Ga.; and 11 grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Homer Glenn, 82, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Primitive Baptist Church at the Davis Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 8:50 a.m. Sunday in the Mary Dickerson Hospital in Jasper. A native of Newton County, he had lived in this area for many years and was a farmer. Survivors include his wife, Amelia Singletary Glenn; one son, Milton Glenn of Kirbyville; two sisters, Velma Collier of Bona, and Minnie Smith of Magnolia Springs.

KIRBYVILLE – James William Glenn, 90, died about midnight Saturday, January 19, 1974 in a Jasper Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Davis Cemetery at Beulah Springs. A native of Farrsville, he lived in Kirbyville 70 years. Survivors are two sons, Elmer Glenn of Silsbee and Earl Glenn of Kirbyville; five daughters, Mrs. Mabel Moak of Brookeland and Mrs. Modelle Wilson, Mrs. Mildred Singleton, Mrs. Wanda Lee and Mrs. Eloise Jordan, all of Kirbyville; one brother, Homer Gelnn of Kirbyville; and two sisters, Mrs. Velma Collier of Erin and Mrs. Minnie smith of Magnolia Springs.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Leo Glenn, 64, will be at 2 p.m. today in Kirbyville Church of Christ with burial in Wilkinson Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Jasper Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Survivors include his wife, Eula Wilkinson Glenn; his mother, Georgia West Glenn of Buna; two brothers, Mack and Philip Glenn, both of Kirbyville; one half-brother, J.E. Hooks of Thicket, and three sisters, Imogene McDaniels of Kirbyville, Tony Elliott of Clearwater, Fla., and Amanda Dickason of Eugene, Ore.

Maurine Gaskin Glenn, 76, of Kirbyville died Monday, May 6, 1996 at her residence. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in Kirbyville with burial at Davis Cemetery in Beulah Springs community under the direction of E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville. A native of Polk County, she lived in Kirbyville most of her life and was a retired sales clerk for Mixson Brothers in Kirbyville. Survivors include her husband, Earl Glenn of Kirbyville; daughter, Frances Scoggins of Kirbyville; and three grandchildren.

Galatos, Dr. Lorenzo
Funeral arrangements for Dr. Lorenzo Galatos, 53, of Kirbyville will be announced by the Rivero Funeral Home of Miami. Dr. Galatos was killed in an automobile collision near the intersection of State Hwy. 96 and Levert Street Monday, January 12, 1973. Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements. Among survivors are his wife, Mrs. Coridad Galatos, Kirbyville; a daughter, Mrs. Marria Laurencio, Salamanco, Spain; a son, Frank Galatos, Zarago, Spain; a brother, Miguel Galatos, Mexico; a sister, Mrs. Guill Gutierrez, Miami; and his mother, Mrs. Cornela Galatos, Miami Beach.

Gamble, Hallie Milner

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for Hallie Milner Gamble, 91, was held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday in Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. She died at 6 p.m. Saturday in Buna Medical Center after a long illness. A native of Colmesneil, she lived in the Kirbyville area for many years. Survivors include one stepson, James Gamble, and one stepdaughter, Eleanor Brown, both of Louisiana.

Gandy, Stella Thomas
Funeral services for Mrs. Stella Thomas Gandy, 95, of Buna, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Causey's E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. The Rev. B.A. Carlin, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Eldridge Richardson, Robert Cummings, J.R. Graves, J.W. Jones, Choyce Gandy and Doyle Hawkins. Mrs. Gandy died in the Buna Medical Center about 11:20 a.m. Thursday after a long illness. She is a native of Magnolia Springs and had lived in the Buna area 75 years. She was a Baptist. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Ollie Bulls, of Richmond, Texas, Mrs. Lorette Little and Mrs. Mary Francis Thomas, both of Houston and Miss Flora Mae Gandy and Miss Anna Belle Gandy both of Buna; two sons, Willis Gandy of Romayor and Blewett Gandy of Houston, 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Theresa Solis Garcia, 74, of Nederland died Jan. 13, 2001, at her residence. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church with burial at Oak Bluff Cemetery under the direction of Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home in Port Arthur. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today with a wake at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A native of Mexico, she lived in Nederland most of her life and was a homemaker. Survivors include stepsons, Paul Garcia of Upatoi, Ga., Edward Garcia of Goshen, Ind., Francisco Garcia of Kirbyville, Jesse Garcia Jr. of Sellersburg, Ind., Jim Garcia of Orange and Braulio "Ben" Garcia of Port Arthur; brothers, Felix Soliz and Jimmy Solis, both of Groves, Don S. Solis Sr. of Nederland, Johnny J. Solis of San Antonio and Austin Solis of Port Arthur; sisters, Maria Socorro Burns of Port Arthur and Anna Maria Solis, Henrietta Solis and Victoria Melancon, all of Nederland; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Charlie Gaskin, 56, of Kirbyville died at 4 p.m. Friday, May 25, 1973 in a Kirbyville hospital. He was a native of Livingston and had lived in Kirbyville for 50 years. He was employed by the Kirbyville Independent School District. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Bean Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret McDaniel Gaskin; one son, Ron Gaskin, Austin, Tex.; his mother, Mrs. Emma Gaskin, Kirbyville; two sisters, Mrs. Maurine Glenn and Mrs. Gladys McBroom, both of Kirbyville; and one brother, Truman Gaskin, Jal, N.M.

Funeral for George W. Gaskin, 82, were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Percy Bailey officiating. Burial was in Kirbyville Cemetery under direction of Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. He died at 9:00 a.m. Sunday in Shady Acres Nursing Home in Newton. He was a native of Florida and had lived in Port Arthur prior to moving to Kirbyville 16 years ago. He was a member of Nathan Corley Lodge #294 and a former Justice of the Peace of Pct. 3. Survivors include a son, Gordon Gaskin of Lake Charles, La.; one daughter, Beverly Pinner of Kirbyville; a sister, Lena Crawford of Silsbee, and two grandchildren.

Rubye M. Gatewood, 81, of Kirbyville died Monday, June 13, 1994 at Jasper Convalescent Center. Funeral was Thursday, June 16 at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with burial at Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper. A native of jasper, she lived in Kirbyville most of her life. Survivors include sons, J.E. Gatewood of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Jerry Gatewood of Jasper; sisters, Zelma Durdin and Elna Wilson, both of Diboll, Florence Hunter of Kirbyville, Mary Frances Walters of Tyler, and Naomi Jane Hines of Jasper; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

J.W. “Bill” Gentry, 81, of Kirbyville died Friday, December, 1988 at his home after an illness. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at E.E. Stringer Funeral Home in Kirbyville with a Masonic graveside service at Kirbyville Cemetery. A native of Polk County, Ark., he lived in Kirbyville most of his life and was a retired blacksmith. Survivors include his wife, Martha Gentry of Kirbyville; sons, Jode W. Gentry of Houston, Bobby W. Gentry of Wildwood and Larry F. Gentry of Kirbyville; daughters, Margarite Parker of Buna and Jeannie Arnold of Kirbyville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Lightning Kills Man At Buna
BUNA – A 57-year-old Buna man was killed by lightning Sunday as he worked cattle in a pasture near his home. Donald Howard Gerald, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Judge John Germany, Pct. 4 Justice of the peace. According to Deputy Bobby Choate of the Sheriff’s Department, Gerald and Richard Broussard, also of Buna, were working cattle in the pasture 1.5 miles east of the dead man’s home on Sheppard Road. Broussard told the deputy they had only five cows left to spray when a shower began at about 1 p.m. Broussard said Gerald decided they should wait in the truck until the rain stopped. “It was just barely sprinkling when they started walking side by side back to the pen,” Choate said. Broussard was then directed to go after a cow that had begun to stray. “He was about 100 yards away when he (Broussard) heard a loud clap of thunder. He turned around and saw Gerald lying face down on the ground,” Choate added. Gerald was a native of Kirbyville and a resident of Buna for 28 years. Funeral arrangements are pending at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Richardson Gerald; two sons, Larry Gerald of Coushatta, La. and Phillip Gerald of Buna; a daughter, Betty Sue Gerald of Jefferson, Tex.; three brothers, William Gerald of Pasedena, Sam Gerald of Harlingen and Robert Gerald of Kirbyville and two sisters, Elma Foley of Houston and Maudie Boyd of Huntsville.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for J.M. “Siz” Gilbert, 66, will be at 2 p.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home chapel with burial in Kirbyville Cemetery. Gilbert died at 11 a.m. Monday at his home after an illness. He was a native of Jasper County and had lived in Houston and Beaumont before moving back to Kirbyville. He was a retired automobile salesman. Survivors include his wife, Doris Odom Gilbert of Kirbyville; two daughters, Glenda McKinley of Houston, Lavonia Strawther of Groves; and five grandchildren.

KIRBYVILLE – Funeral for B.W. Gilchriest, 49, will be at 2 p.m. today at Causey’s E.E. Stringer Funeral Home chapel with burial in Bean Cemetery. He died Tuesday morning at Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston. He was a lifelong resident of Kirbyville and a retired Merchant seaman. He was a veteran of World War II. Survivors include his mother, Myrtie Walker of Kirbyville; two sisters, Jewel Stigner of Pennsylvania and Joyce Gilley of Newton, and one brother, Oral Downey of LaMarque.

Survivors include one son, Jessie David Gilchriest of Sabine Pass; two daughters, Ernestine Rolph of Longview and Christine Moore of El Paso; one half-sister, Ellen Beard of Cleburne, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday at Mid-County Hospital in Nederland after an illness. A native of Browndell, Texas, she had lived most of her life in Kirbyville. Survivors include two sons, William L. Gilchriest of Beaumont, Louis Gilchriest Jr. of Old Salem; one daughter, Dorothy Ledet of Nederland; one brother, M.R. Stephens of Kirbyville; two sisters, Jean Tulley, Margaret Kronenbereger, both of Tomball; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He died at 4 a.m. Saturday in his home. A native of Magnolia Springs, he lived most of his life in Kirbyville. He was a retired section laborer for the Sante Fe Railroad. Survivors include his wife, Lottie Gilchriest of Kirbyville; two daughters, Girtie Gilchriest and Aline Sewell, both of Kirbyville, and his brother, W.D. Gilchriest of Kirbyville.

Leonard Grady Glawson, 53, of Lumberton died Tuesday, October 2, 1990 at his residence. Funeral was held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 5, at Fletcher Emanuel Baptist Church with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Kelley-Hixson Funeral Home. A native of Hemphill, he grew up in Kirbyville and was a 1956 graduate of Kirbyville High School. He lived in Lumberton the last 18 years of his life. He was employed by Sysco Food Corp. and was a Vietnam War U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Glawson of Lumberton; a son, Leonard Grady Glawson II of Lumberton; a daughter Kimberly K. Glawson of Lumberton; brothers, Aubrey Glawson of Tucson, Ariz., and Delton Glawson and Gilbert Glawson, both of Kirbyville; sisters, Sue Holst, Verline Small, and Ruth Joiner, all of Beaumont, Susie Kelley of Conroe, and Phyllis Hinson of Kirbyville.
