Rodney Dale Green, 36, of Joshua died Wednesday, October 2, 2002, in Joshua from injuries received in a motorcycle accident. He was a plumber. Funeral services were Saturday, October 5, 2002, at Mountain Valley Chapel. Burial was at Caddo Cemetery in Joshua. Rodney was born September 28, 1966, in Mocaine, Missouri, the son of Raymond Leroy and Rose Mary Hall Green. Rodney was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Leroy Green, in 1995; and a daughter, Amanda Green, in 1985. CARLTON "BUSTER" BIRD
Funeral services for Carlton "Buster" Bird, 70, of Hurst were held Saturday at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel, 201 W. Bufford, in Burleson. Burial was at Green Acres Memorial Park in Cleburne. Mr. Bird passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2002, in North Richland Hills. He was a retired pipe steamfitter. Carlton retired from Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local 146. He was president of a local bowling league for the past two years. IRIS BURNS

Iris Burns, 87, of Burleson died Saturday, September 28, 2002, at a Fort Worth hospital. She was a retired teacher. Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 1 at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Burial was at Burleson Memorial Park. Iris Burns was born January 3, 1915, in Martins Mill, Texas, the daughter of Cicero Edward and Maggie Green Tunnell. She married E.B. Burns, Jr. on July 12, 1936, in Colorado City, Texas. He preceded her in death May 5, 1989. Mrs. Burns taught music and choir at Burleson High School and elementary schools for 20 years, and retired in 1977. She was choir director for First United Methodist Church of Burleson for over 20 years. She loved playing the piano, solving crossword puzzles and playing word games. She had been a member of First United Methodist Church of Burleson since 1956, and was a member of the Fellowship Class. Iliff "Chris" LeRoy Christner, 67, of Morgan passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2002, after a long illness. He was born December 14, 1934, in Washington, Iowa to Basil and Mildred Christner. Mr. Christner lived in Oxnard, California for over 20 years and moved to Texas in 1993. He served his country in the United States Navy. He was a retired Seabee. Mr. Christner was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed. Anthony "Dwayne" White, 48, of Burleson died Friday, September 27, 2002, at a Fort Worth hospital. He was a service technician for Arthur Hagar Company for the past 22 years. Anthony Dwayne White was born September 4, 1954, in Fort Worth to Anthony Jay and Mary Maxey White. He married Pat Carson on August 14, 1993. Though he worked in the heating and air conditioning business, he also volunteered at Trinity Mission Nursing Home in Burleson. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who loved to fish and sing. Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents. Eunice Byrd Cochran Hanks, 81, of Joshua passed away Sunday, September 22, 2002, in Cleburne. She was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 24 at Martin's Funeral Chapel in Cleburne. Reverend Jerry Clements officiated. Burial was at Greenacres Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Paul Cochran, Richard Pettijohn, Michael Pettijohn and Thad Snowden. Mrs. Hanks was born June 18, 1921, in Cleburne to Cleveland Byrd and Vestie Morris. She had been a resident of Joshua for 25 years and was a longtime member of Lane Prairie Baptist Church. She loved sewing, gardening and antiquing. Mrs. Hanks was well loved by her family and many friends. She was an outgoing and fun-loving person with a personality to match. She will be dearly missed. Susan Jane Lundberg, 44, a homemaker, died Wednesday, September 11, 2002, in Fort Worth. She was born on May 26, 1958, in Magna, Utah. WALTER "JOHNNY" ROACH

Walter Roach, 75, of Hull, Texas, died suddenly Friday, September 13, 2002, at his residence. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 17 at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty, Texas. Burial was at Guedry Cemetery. Mr. Roach was known by several nicknames while he lived in the Burleson area. It was Jack, then when he and Lottie moved to the Liberty area it changed to Johnny. Mr. Roach was a veteran of World War II in the Army. He reached the rank of Private First Class. He was also a member of the American Legion #549 in Burleson. Before retiring 10 years ago, Walter was a plumbing supply salesman for nearly 20 years. He was born June 16, 1927, in Carber Hill, Alabama, to parents Jesse Roach and Pearl King. He entered into marriage with Lottie Flowers in Magnolia, Mississippi, on April 3, 1954. This past April, Walter and Lottie celebrated 48 years of marriage. While married they had four children. Mr. Roach is preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Johnny Edward Roach and Jerry Wayne Roach. He is survived by his wife, Lottie Roach of Hull; two daughters, Peggy Johnson of Hull and Patsy Gueldenhuys of Louisville, Kentucky; one brother, C.E. Roach and wife, Vera, of Glen, Mississippi; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. JOHNNY MORGAN WEEKS

John Morgan Weeks, 51, of Burleson died Thursday, September 12, 2002, in Fort Worth. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 14 at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in Brady, Texas. Brother Karl Jones officiated. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery. Mr. Weeks was born June 18, 1951, in Brady, Texas to Cora Chesser and Merlin Weeks. He married Ginger Boswell on September 25, 1971. He worked for Bell Helicopter Textron in Hurst. Johnny graduated from Lohn High School in 1970, and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, until 1981, when he moved to the Fort Worth area and worked for Anacast, General Dynamics and Texas Steel. He lived in Burleson for 22 years and was a member of the Burleson Church of Christ. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Cindy Weeks; and one grandson, Tyler Schneider. He is survived by his wife, Ginger, of Burleson; one son, Jeffrey Weeks and his wife, Tonya, of Burleson; one daughter, Joni Schneider and her husband, Chris, of North Richland Hills; three brothers, Jim Bob and Tommy Weeks of Brady and Danny Weeks of Pear Valley; and one half-sister, Sonja Latham, of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Hazel Kennedy, 86, of Burleson passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2002, in her home. She was a retired registered nurse. Edwin Martin Lemons, 87, of Burleson, a faithful Christian, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002, at a Fort Worth hospital. Edwin Martin Lemons was born April 30, 1915, in Pear Valley, Texas to Jim Martin and Moneta Estelle Mayo Lemons. He married Mattie Chambers on August 16, 1938, in DeLeon, Texas. He was a Sunday School teacher for 40 years and served as a deacon in every congregation he had been a member of. After his retirement from General Dynamics in 1980 he became an avid Golfer and had always been a strong witness for Christ. Mr. Lemons is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mattie Lemons; son, Larry Lemons and wife, Judy; daughters, JoAnn McClintock and husband, "Doc", Debbie Williams, all of Burleson, Peggy Jan Lane and husband, Keith, of Granbury, and Linda Cobb and husband, Ed, of Decatur; sister, Mildred Ruble of Bertram; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving friends and relatives. JIMMIE WAYNE HUGHES
Jimmie Wayne Hughes died on Monday, August 26, 2002, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born October 28,1944, in Beaumont, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 7 at Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home in Beaumont, Texas. Burial was at Magnolia Springs, Texas, with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Visitation was Friday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Jim graduated from French High School in Beaumont. He received his BA from Abilene Christian University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Houston. He was a longtime educator in Texas at Vidor, Clear Lake, Burleson, Glenrose, Alvord and Rockdale before moving to Alaska where he was a School Administrator in Barrow and Eagle River. Jim is survived his daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Peter Young of Missouri City; son, Simeon Hughes of Huntsville; parents, Ben and Mable Hughes of Conroe; brothers, Ben and wife Judy Hughes of Conroe, Scott and wife Cathy Hughes of The Woodlands; three grandsons, Christian, Seth and Gavin Young; aunt, Madie Jones of Cleveland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews . JOE WALTER CROUCH, JR.

Joe Walter Crouch, Jr., 76, died peacefully Saturday morning, August 31, 2002, at a local hospital. A Memorial Eucharist was held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 4 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive South. Following committal prayers, Joe was laid to rest with his parents in Laurel Lane Memorial Park. A lifelong resident of Crowley, Joe Walter Crouch, Jr. was born September 19, 1925, the son of Joe Walter and Annie Mary Easley Crouch. He married the former Sue Roberson on October 11, 1964. He graduated from Crowley High School in 1940 and attended N.T.A.C., now the University of Texas at Arlington, until called to active service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the Philippines and Japan, assigned to the Mechanized Cavalry and Occupation Forces. Joe started dairying with his father when he was 17, and retired in 1996 after 55 years. At the time of his retirement he was milking over 700 cows at a "state-of-the-art" dairy facility in Itasca. In 1986, the Texas Dairy Heritage Foundation recognized the Crouch family for continuous dairy operations in Tarrant County for 100 years. He was an active member of the North Texas Milk Producers Inc., serving in multiple offices, and in its successor organization, Associated Milk Producers Inc., serving as voting delegate to both state and national meetings. Joe was an active member of the Tarrant County Farm Bureau, serving as president. He continued his membership when the Tarrant and Johnson County Farm Bureaus merged. He was a charter member of the Crowley Chamber of Commerce, serving as first vice president. After his retirement, he remained involved by brokering heifers from Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and selling them in Texas. Mr. Crouch was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth and served as an usher for the early Sunday service. He was a loving husband and devoted family man, holding a special bond with his children. Joe was most happy when all the family traveled, as they did recently, returning from an inside passage cruise to Alaska. Mr. Crouch is survived by his wife of nearly 38 years, Sue Roberson Crouch of Crowley; daughter, Karen Danette Crouch of San Francisco,California; sons, Joe Walter Crouch III of Los Angeles, California, and John Franklin Crouch and his wife, Kelly, of Mansfield; "Rays of Sunshine," his granddaughters, Anna and Atalie, whom he taught to give him "High-fives!"; and brother, Fred Crouch of Crowley. A Prayer Vigil was also held at the church prior to the services. D'Maris was born October 15, 1946, to Hester Ruth and Ray White. She was a lifelong resident of the Burleson and Cleburne area. She graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso with a BA in education in 1969, and was an elementary education teacher for 33 years in the Crowley and Burleson area. Some of D'Maris' hobbies included oil painting, antiquing, interior decorating and craft projects. She traveled extensively throughout the world. D'Maris was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and was a lifelong active member of The Church of The Holy Comforter of Cleburne. She was also a Docent for Dallas Historical Society. D'Maris is survived by her father, Ray White of Crowley; brother and sister-in-law, Ret. Lt. Col. William A. Louise Theresa Baum-Eitelman was born in Brooklyn, New York on June 14, 1907, to Joseph Franz Baum of Germany and Louisa Lindic-Baum of Austria. Louise moved with her family from Montreal, Canada to California in 1929, and eventually followed her brothers Frank and Richard into the florist business. She has been a resident of Keene since 1990. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Eitelman on November 28, 1978, after 37 years of marriage; and also her brother-in-law, Bill Morrison; her parents; three brothers who died in infancy; and her surviving siblings, Joseph Aloysius, Frank Gabriel, Richard, and Josephine Frances. She is survived by her step-niece, Alice and Morris Cummings of Keene; Goddaughter, Julie and Michael Seaman of Anaheim, California; niece, JoAnn and George Liner of Dalton, Georgia; nephew, Bob and Sheri Marcy of Somerset, Kentucky; niece, Nancy and Lynn Pitchford of Sandestin, Florida. Carlene Beene Deering, 67, of Denton passed away Friday, July 26, 2002, at the Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. She was born September 13, 1934, in Grandview to Karl Marx Beene and Esther Cashion Beene. Carlene married William Dougless Deering on August 28, 1954, in Burleson. She was employed at the Voertmann's Gift Shop and involved in family businesses. Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 30, in the Chapel of DeBerry Funeral Directors. Russell Byron McClintock, 39, of Fort Worth, went to be with his Lord at a Fort Worth hospice house on Saturday, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Services were held Tuesday at Mountain Valley Chapel. Burial was at Poe Prairie Cemetery, Millsap, Texas. Russell was born March 23, 1963, in Dallas, the son of Bobby Earl "Doc" and Edrey Chipman McClintock. He had been a resident of Fort Worth for 11 years. He attended school in Grand Prairie and Jacksboro where he was an all-district football player and he graduated from Cleburne High School in 1981. Russell was a very talented writer, especially in the area of screenplays and was interested in literature and film. At the onset of his courageous bout with cancer, he was directing a documentary film. Mr. Mc Clintock worked in sales, especially medical personnel recruitment and placement. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edrey McClintock, in 1998. Russell is survived by his fiancée, Nancy Sanserverino of Fort Worth; sons, Joshua McClintock of Mansfield, Chase McClintock and Kale McClintock, both of Arlington; daughter, Skye McClintock of Arlington; stepson, Brian Kessler and his wife Lisa and their daughter Mariah of Cleburne; father, Bob "Doc" McClintock and wife JoAnn, and step-brothers, Troy Smith and Robby Smith, all of Burleson; grandmother, Fay Gene Chipman of Millsap; aunts, JoAnn Barnhart, Frances Sladek; uncle, James Chipman, four great-aunts, three great-uncles, and a very special cat, Kubrick. Burial was at Burleson Memorial Park. J.W. Cross served in the U.S. Army during WWII and had been a resident of Burleson for 46 years. He was a member, deacon and former Sunday School Superintendent at Bethesda Baptist Church. He retired from Max Eubank Roofing Company as a roofing superintendent in 1988, after 25 years of service. He enjoyed working and fishing. Mr. Cross is survived by his wife of 51 years, Dannie M. Cross of Burleson; sons, J.W. Barrett Hallford, 74, of Fort Worth passed away Friday, July 19, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired Auditor for Tarrant County Auditors office. She was a member of Worth Baptist Church. She loved her church, gospel music and people. She enjoyed fishing, travel and birdwatching. George Bracken, 74, of Burleson, died Sunday, June 30, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a retired Channel 5 employee. Bill was born July 4, 1927, in Chillicothe, Texas to Robert Oliver and Polly Bracken. His family moved to Fort Worth while he was a child. Bill served in the SEA BEES during the Korean War, as a Carpenter's Mate 3rd Class. He worked for 15 years at the Tarrant County Convention Center, Local 126, as a stagehand. He retired in 1995 from Lin Broadcasting (Channel 5) after 27 years of employment. After his retirement he and his wife owned the Kountry Kitchen Restaurant in Burleson until 1998. Bill loved gardening, carpentry and doing things with his great-grandson, Lawrence Bracken, Jr. Mr. Bracken was preceded in death by his first wife Louise Bracken; mother and father, Polly and Robert O. Bracken; and brother, Robert T. Bracken. T. L. CANNON
T. L. Cannon, 86, of Burleson died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, in Fort Worth. He was a retired auto mechanic teacher. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 27 at the Burleson Church of Christ. Burial was at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth. T. L. Cannon was born one of nine children to Truston and Ida Cotham Cannon in Fort Worth. He grew up in Jack County and later moved to Fort Worth where he worked at American Manufacturing Plant during World War II. He married Alene Neeley on May 29, 1941, and they were married for almost 48 years until her death in 1988. He then married Wynola Bramlett, and she preceded him in death in 1991. On January 1, 1993, he married Loveda Samsill, and they made their home in Burleson. Mr. Cannon retired from teaching auto mechanics at Trimble Tech High School in Fort Worth and also owned and operated Cannons Automotive in Haltom City for many years. He was a member of the Burleson Church of Christ and had also served as a deacon at Eastridge and Mid Town Churches of Christ. It was always evident that Christ was important in his life. Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife, Loveda Samsill Cannon of Burleson; son, Lloyd Cannon and wife, Ana, of Riverside, California; daughter, Janice Collins and husband, Alan, of North Richland Hills; grandchildren, Carey Cannon, Chris Cannon, Colby Cannon, Derek and Brett Roberson, Jason Collins and Heather Foerester; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Cole Cannon; and many friends. Mr. Moon had been a resident of Crowley for four years; he formerly lived in Odessa for many years. Barbara Jean Toole, 66, a resident of San Diego, California, for 41 years, passed away June 17 after a long battle with cancer. Mrs. Toole grew up in Burleson where she attended school in the 40's and 50's. She enjoyed attending annual reunions at the high school. She was retired after 30 years from the telephone company, and had been a real estate broker for approximately 25 years. She is survived by her husband, Donald Toole; daughter Julie Boehrig and son-in-law Clayton Boehrig, Jr.; grandchildren Clayton Boehrig III and Tiffany Boehrig; sisters JoAnn Lawson, Norma Wylie and Mildred Sisk. Debbie enjoyed gardening, playing soccer, volunteering and helping children. Debbie was a member of the PTF committee at Steppingstone Christian Academy for three years, and served as a teacher volunteer and room mother. Debbie served on the PTO board for one year at Nola Dunn Academy and was the first president for the Stribling Elementary PTO where she served on the Executive Board for two years. She was devoted to being a regular volunteer, helping teachers and tutoring students in the classroom. She volunteered to work regularly in the library in both schools and also served as a room mother. Debbie was a member of the Burleson Independent Soccer Association for nine years and served four positions on the Board of Directors, including Director of Publicity, Secretary, Adult Commissioner, and currently as Registrar. As the first adult commissioner, she was influential in establishing co-ed adult soccer and helped make it fun and safe for players in the league. She was an active player on the adult maroon team and also coached a children's team. Debbie actively supported the Boy Scouts of America Troop 527. She served an important support role to the adult staff Troop committee. She is considered Coordinator of Special Ceremonies by serving as the lead person for quarterly Court of Honor Ceremonies. She volunteered to coordinate all arrangements for decorating, supplying and serving food and insuring the success of each ceremony. Debbie was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Wells. She is survived by her husband, Mark Osborn; children, Christina and Kyle; mother, Fran Wells; and numerous family members. Family, friends and members of the community, Boy Scout Troop 527, Steppingstone Christian Academy, Employees of Thomas Conveyor and Tote Systems are invited to pay their respects. Iva Marie Cagle, 90, of Burleson passed into her glorious inheritance with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Friday, June 14, 2002, in Burleson. She very peacefully went to sleep and joined her husband for Fathers Day in their new heavenly home. A memorial service for celebration of life will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 19 in the chapel at Arlington Funeral Home. The Reverend Gary Burkins will officiate, assisted by Reverend Gary Beal and Chaplain Theo Stewart. Burial will be at Moore Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Arlington. Mrs. Cagle was born on September 12, 1911, in Asher, Oklahoma to W.E. and Ellen Bell (Smith) Edmondson. She had lived in the Fort Worth area since 1962, and very recently at Huguley Nursing Center, Burleson. She married Willie Lee Cagle on October 6, 1928, and they were eternal sweethearts, inseparable for 63 years until his death in 1991. A homemaker, her life was given in service for her family and God. She was a member of Victory Life Outreach Center, Fort Worth. Mrs. Cage was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Lee and Ronald Lee Cagle. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Glen and Zella Cagle of Denton, and Bill and Sandi Cagle of Blum; daughter and son-in-law, Chaplain Beverly and Joe Burkins of Burleson; sister, Audrey Snider of Kiowa, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Ray Green, 91, of Mesa, Arizona, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at a Mesa, Arizona hospital. He was a retired chief clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 20 at The Lighthouse Church (Steppingstone) of Burleson. Burial will be at Bethesda Cemetery. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Ray Green was born in Johnson County, Texas, the son of Marcus Cleveland and Dora Lee Bean Green. He was a lifelong resident of Johnson County until moving to Mesa three years ago. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 21 years of service, and was with Dillard's for 13 years. Ray was a member of The Lighthouse Church of Burleson and The Living Word Church in Mesa. He married the former Lorene Lewis on June 9, 1934, in Glen Rose. He served as a medic overseas in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Green was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charlie, Hershel, Guy, Roy, Ab and Boyd; sisters, Maude and Leila. Maggie Ruth Huffman, 82, of Burleson, retired nurse and beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully Friday, June 14, 2002, in Fort Worth. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church in Burleson. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Ruth was born on June 11, 1920, in Barnsville. She was married got sixty years. During that time she was a military wife traveling to Japan and the Philippines to join her husband, She supported him through three terms as Sheriff of Johnson County. She was a longtime member of Rebekah Lodge and Eastern Star. She created various craft projects which she shared with friends and family. Mrs. Huffman is survived by her husband, Stuart; children, Stuart, Jr. and Shirley Huffman, James and Patty Huffman, Joe and Connie Huffman, Linda and Bob Goins, Glenda and Robert Elliott, Ron and Mary Vargas; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews; sisters, Katherine Smith, Bessie Bayless-Hatcher and Maxine Finley. Lloyd Earl Ward, 79, of Joshua died Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at his residence. He was a retired school teacher for the Mansfield ISD. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 15 at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Burial was at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Valley View Cemetery, Valley View, Texas. Lloyd Earl Ward was born September 24, 1922, in Valley View, Texas, the son of Carroll Preston and Ora Allegoode Ward. He had been a resident of Joshua for 25 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Burleson, Texas Retired Teachers Association and American Quarterhorse Association. An avid fiddler and story teller, he enjoyed life, training border collies and writing poetry. He taught special education classes at Mansfield Middle School and Mansfield High School, and had also taught at Carter Middle School in Arlington. He was named Teacher of the Year in 1974. Virginia Phillips, 74, of DeSoto passed away Sunday, June 9, 2002, at her home. She was an educator. Funeral services were held Sunday, June 16 at City Temple S.D.A. Church in Dallas. Pastor Alex Horton officiated. Burial was at Keene Cemetery in Keene. Virginia Phillips was born January 9, 1928, in Dallas. She graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education from Texas Southern University and later received a Masters Degree from Riverdale College in New York as a Reading Specialist. Her various professions included work as a licensed beautician, school teacher, postal worker and read estate owner. Virginia married Terrance Phillips in 1962 at Ephesus S.D.A. Church in Harlem, New York, where they lived until he passed away in 1975. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her daughter, Virginia Carolyn Sewer; granddaughter, June Elizabeth Sewer; sister, Gladys Marie Austin, all of New York; sister, Dorothy Newman of California. JERRY LEWIS MEYER

Jerry Lewis Meyer, 60, of Burleson died Saturday, June 8, 2002, at a local hospital. He was a band director and businessman. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11 at Crestmont Baptist Church of Burleson. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Jerry Lewis Meyer was born July 24, 1941, in Wichita Falls to Herman and Loraine Meyer. He grew up in Olton, Texas and graduated from Olton High School in 1959. Jerry attended Eastern New Mexico University where he majored in music and played the trumpet, and then attended Oklahoma University for his Masters degree. He left there to teach Junior High band in Dimmitt, Texas under the tutelage of Ralph Smith. Jerry was then called by Uncle Sam to serve his country in the 4th Army Band stationed at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. While stationed in Ft. Sam Houston, college friends of his future wife, Ron and Patricia Puckett, introduced Jerry and Michaeleen on a blind date. They were married three years later on June 7, 1969. Jerry was an avid golfer and Cowboys fan. He was very active in the Burleson community and his girls' school activities. In 1994, Jerry served as chairman of the steering committee to build the new Burleson High School. Mr. Meyer was preceded in death by his father, Herman Meyer. He is survived by his wife of 33 years and one day, Michaeleen Meyer; daughters, Holly Meyer Gonzalez and husband, Ron, and Michael Ann Meyer Gustafson and husband, Eric, both of Burleson; grandchildren, Maddison Gustafson, London Gonzalez and Jacob Gustafson; mother, Loraine "Memaw" Meyer of Burleson; brothers, John Meyer of Burleson and Larry Wiist of Santa Anna, California; sisters, Kathy McGarey of San Francisco and Marianne Westerdoll of Dana Point, California; and uncle, Lewis Wiist of Shreveport. Willard "Bill" Morgan, 72, of Fort Worth passed away Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Burleson. He was a retired oil field parts manufacturing company foreman. For many years he enjoyed playing locally with his band, "Bill Morgan and the Western Travelers." But always first, Bill was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. She owned and operated Sugar 'n' Spice Children's Clothing in Oklahoma for several years. Mrs. Whitlock was preceded in death by her oldest son, Noel Whitlock, in 1988, and her grandson, Billy Whitlock. REVEREND WAYNE LESTER BURKEY

Wayne Lester Burkey, 80, of Burleson passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Fort Worth. He was a retired Methodist Minister. Funeral services were held on Monday, June 3 at Kingswood United Methodist Church of Burleson. Entombment was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Wayne Lester Burkey was born August 23, 1921, in Murphysboro, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He went on to be graduated from Southern Illinois University and then from Asbury Theological Seminary with a degree in Divinity. Reverend Burkey served United Methodist Churches in Illinois before entering the Air Force Chaplaincy in 1955. His distinguished service in the USAF included several tours overseas and in Thailand during the Vietnam War. Colonel Burkey retired from the Air Force in 1974 at Dyess AFB, Abilene, Texas. He proudly ministered to the loving congregation at Tuscola United Methodist Church, Tuscola, Texas. After retiring from the Northwest Texas Conference, he and Marcella attended St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Burkeys moved to Burleson in 1996, and were members of Kingswood United Methodist Church of Burleson. Wayne Burkey's life was devoted to giving to others. He volunteered throughout his life for many organizations including the Red Cross. He treasured his involvement in the Lion's Clubs. He blessed so many with his kindness and grace. He passes to heaven to take his place. Bernice Faye Ferguson, 88, of Burleson died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home. She was a homemaker. Nauwana Long, 81, of Burleson died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at her home. She was a retired office manager for Texas Distributors. Funeral services were held Monday, June 3 at Retta Baptist Church. Burial was at Skyvue Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Long was born March 13, 1921, in Telephone, Texas, the daughter of John William and Glena Maude Robinson Stafford and was reared in Ranger. She reared her children in Irving. She married Cisco Thomas "Tom" Long on January 1, 1971, in Oklahoma. Mrs. Long is survived by her husband, Tom Long of Burleson; sons, Jim Fengler and Richard Fengler, both of Irving; stepson, Eugene Long of Mansfield; stepdaughters, Ruby Nell Long of Irving and Shirley Long of Mansfield; brother, Bill Stafford, Jr. of Abilene; sister, Allene Suggs of Dallas; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
