ELLEN NADINE STRUB
Ellen Nadine Strub, 80, died Saturday, February 7, 2004, at the Continental Manor in Abbotsford, WI where she had resided since 2001. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen, WI. Pastor Matthew Christo of the Seventh-day Adventist Church officiated. Ellen was born Feb. 26, 1923, in Columbia, MO, to Burton and Ellen Ruth (Miller) Smith. She attended school in Columbia. She then joined the Women's Army Corp and served as a mechanic assistant in Great Falls, MT, with an honorable discharge in 1943. Ellen married Earl E. Strub on Jan. 23, 1948, in Madison, SD. They farmed in Iroquois, SD, retired in 1969 and moved to Keene where she was a nursing assistant. Both had leadership rolls in the Marble Falls Adventist Church. Earl died in 1995,and Ellen moved to her daughter's in Withee in 1999. Ellen supported and attended the 1996 dedication of the Women in Service Memorial in Arlington Cemetery in Washington. An active member of her church, she enjoyed playing the piano, singing, sewing and reading. Ellen will be dearly missed by her loving family: sons, Neal Strub of Grandview, Nevin (Diana) Strub of Grandbury, Eric Craig Strub of Jonesboro, GA; daughters, Nina Stephens of Carrollton, Ellen (Doug) Kopf of Windom, Elvada (George) Cordwell of Withee; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia Aughenbaugh of CA, Lucille Thibodeaux of KS, Phyllis Wenz of SD, Dorothy Dorey of MO; brothers, Glen Smith of OR, Winston Smith of CO. THELMA LEE EBERHARDT
Thelma Lee Eberhardt, 94, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 15, 2004, in a local hospital. Mrs. Eberhardt was preceded in death by her husband, Fredrick W. in 1984, three brothers, two sisters and one niece. Thelma and Fredrick were two of the founding members of the First United Methodist Church of Kennedale, and they were very involved with various groups within the church. She was also involved with the Kennedale Senior Citizens Center and demonstrated her love for her community by trying to help out whenever she could. Thelma also belonged to the Unique Club. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 16 at Emerald Hills Memorial Chapel, with burial at Emerald Hills Memorial Park. Mrs. Eberhardt is survived by sisters, Billie Hoover and husband, Joe, Maxine Thomas and husband, Elder; nieces, Sue Jordan and family, Carla Lofton and family, Sandra Watson and family, Glenda Rudisill and family; nephews, Larry Hoover and family, and Benny Maxwell. Burleson -- Joyce Hambleton, 64, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, in a local hospital of natural causes. Funeral services were held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 13 at Laurel Land of Burleson Memorial Chapel. Visitation was 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Joyce was an avid bowler in both Nebraska and then later here in Texas. In the past she held various offices in the different bowling associations and had a love for the game. Joyce was an outgoing and caring person who will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Joshua - Louis Lyndel "Leonard" Kolar, 43, a drywall contractor, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004, at a local hospice house. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 13 at Mountain Valley Chapel. Burial was at Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation was 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Lyndel went home to be with his Lord on February 10, 2004, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He enjoyed raising and fighting game roosters in years past. ROBERT DONALD TAFT
Burleson - After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Robert Donald Taft, loving father and grandfather entered rest on Tuesday, February 10, 2004, surrounded by family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 16 at Broadway Baptist Church, 305 W. Broadway Avenue in Fort Worth. Pastors Brett Younger and Jorene Taylor Swift will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 16 at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway in Dallas. On September 5, 1927, Robert was born to Nellie and Harold Taft, Sr. in Enid, Oklahoma. After graduating high school in 1945, and at the age of seventeen, he and his close friend Jack Cutbirth joined the Merchant Marines and served in WWII. Then he served as an Intelligence Officer in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Following his graduation from the University of Oklahoma, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, he moved to Fort Worth where he and his brother Harold were in several ventures together, including Church Bonds. One of the pleasures these two brothers shared was the hunting trips they took to the mountains of Colorado. Later Bob worked in land development and the sale of health insurance. More recently, he and a longtime friend were involved in an ongoing business project in central Texas. Bob was always a history buff and loved to talk about his family's involvement in the history of Oklahoma. In later years, Bob and his wife, Jody, found joy and gave joy with their carefully tended rose garden. He and his wife were famous among family and friends for their Christmas cookies and candies. Bob is survived by his wife, Jody; daughters, Robbie Wood and Beth Fincher; stepson, Paul Buening II; four grandchildren; sisters, Patsy Brown, Annette Northcutt, Mary Lou Bond, Judy Levy; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. BENBROOK -- Henry Winton Harris, 68, a wonderful husband, dad and granddad, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at a local hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 7 at Trinity Hills Baptist Church in Benbrook. Dr. Larry Sanders officiated, assisted by great-nephew Jason McGuire. Pallbearers were Randy Harris, Roy Harris, Allan Harris, Mike Harris, Wayne McGuire, Larry McGuire, Monroe McGuire, Ricky Agee. Burial was at Benbrook Cemetery. Visitation was noon to 5 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Henry was born January 17, 1936, in Tom Green County to the late Artie and Roxie Holland Harris. A longtime Benbrook resident, he was a member of Trinity Hills Baptist Church. He retired from Borden Milk as a supervisor. Henry dedicated many years to the Benbrook Lions Club, was loved by many, and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his coffee drinking friends at the Waffle House. ROLLA DUANE COLE
BURLESON -- Rolla Duane Cole, 89, a retired world-known aerobatic pilot, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at a Fort Worth care center. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8 at Mountain Valley Chapel. Burial will be at Laurel Land Memorial Park, Fort Worth. Duane was born April 1, 1914, in Toulon, IL, the son of Rolla Henry and Mable Loesch Cole. He married the former Julia Marie Hippe on November 22, 1937, in San Bernardino, CA. He always called her Judy. During the war, he taught military pilots in California. In 1946, Duane with three of his brothers, Arnold, Lester and Marion, started the Cole Brothers Airshow. Duane was a founding member of the Experimental Aircraft Association as well as the Reno Air Races. He won the National Aerobatic Championship twice and was on the first American team to fly in Europe. He published eight books and produced three videotapes on aviation. His son Rolly flew in the airshow with his mother Judy who rode the wing. His son John announced the airshow and daughter Karen was there for moral support. His son Rolly preceded him in death on August 3, 1963. Duane and Judy have lived in a care facility for the past year and a half, both with progressive Alzheimers Disease. Duane passed quietly and quickly at 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday. Velma was born in Tyler on April 8, 1916 to Andrew Jackson Berry and Mary Alice Ritchie Berry. She grew up in Dallas where she met her husband of 56 years, Willard Robertson. They moved to Alvarado in 1954 where they owned and operated the Robertson Agency for 30 years. She lived the last nine years at Huguley Place in Burleson with many good friends and a wonderful staff for support. Velma was a kind and loving person who always saw the good in people and situations. She was devoted to her family and loved to have them gathered around her table for wonderful meals, games and lively discussions. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Alvarado and involved in many school and community organizations. Through the Robertson Agency, Velma and Willard provided services well beyond the scope of insurance and real estate. Willard was the idea person and Velma was the one who made the details come together for pine tree giveaways and countless other community causes. They were a terrific team. Velma died as she lived... in peace, surrounded by her family. Her gentle spirit will be missed by all whose lives she touched. Velma was preceded in death by her husband, parents and four brothers. JOSHUA -- Mildred Baber Huff, left us January 28, 2004, at the age of 84.She passed away peacefully at her home in the company of her husband and loved ones. DONALD ALLEN CARROLL, SR.
Burleson -- Donald Allen Carroll, Sr., 77, a retired operation supervisor for the U.S. Air Force, passed away Saturday, January 24, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 30 at Baumgardner Chapel, Crowley. Burial will be at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery with full honors. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Baumgardner Funeral Home. Mr. Carroll was a 27 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. At the end of the war he was assigned in Nationalist China as an Air Force advisor, based in Peiping, now Beijing. As the Nationalist government fled the mainland to Formosa, Mr. Carroll was the last American unit evacuated. He served at the American Embassy in Beiruit and in the historic 509th Bomb Wing at Walker A.F.B. Mr. Carroll also served in Los Negros Island, Saudi Arabia, Southeast Asia, Europe and Vietnam. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Carroll was awarded more than 28 medals including: the Bronze Star Medal in June 1971 as Command and Control Superintendent, 21st Tactical Air Support Squadron in Vietnam, and the Meritorious Service Medal in June 1973 as Superintendent, Command and Control Division, Deputy Commander for Operations, 7th Bombardment Wing, Carswell A.F.B. He made two trips around the world and was stationed at bases in Colorado, Ohio, New Mexico, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Nevada, England and Texas, where he retired. Mr. Carroll was a 32nd Degree Mason, Essex Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Salem, Massachusetts where he served as lecturer and transferred to the Burleson Lodge 649, a Moslah Shriner, deacon of several Baptist Churches and city councilman. Mr. Carroll was devoted to his country and family and will live on in their hearts and memories. Mr. Carroll was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Anna Margaret Carroll; brothers, Henry Carroll and Woodrow Carroll; and sister, Edna Cottle. Burleson - David Eugene Harris, 80, a retired master painter for Ford Motor Company, was called home to Heaven on Thursday, January 22, 2004, at a Fort Worth Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 30 at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. The family would appreciate memorials to the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church of Burleson or to the Harvest House of Burleson. ORVILLE "GENE" MIDDLETON
1933-2004
Orville "Gene" Middleton, 70, of Burleson died Saturday, January 24, 2004, at Community Hospice in Fort Worth after a two-and-one-half-year battle with prostate cancer. Funeral services were slated for 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, at Mountain Valley Funeral Home. Burial followed at Burleson Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Emory J. Lilge Hospice House,301 Med Park Circle, Burleson, Texas 76028. Gene was born May 12, 1933, in Montague, Texas, to S.F. "Smith" Middleton and Angie O'Leta Brown Middleton. He graduated from high school in Jacksboro, Texas, in 1950. He married Allyne Garrison on September 7, 1957. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955 as an overseas radio operator stationed with NORAD Siberian Defense Line in Alaska. He was employed in many capacities, including ranching, in the oil fields, for an aeronautics company, for a cafeteria and catering service, as a truck driver, and then retired from Alvarado Muffler as an inspector. He also worked at Luby's in Burleson. He participated in the 2002 and 2003 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Burleson events. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Gene Middleton, in 1981. BURLESON ­ Dolores L. Nelson, 72, died Sunday morning, January 25, 2004, at a Fort Worth hospice. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 29 at First Baptist Church Burleson after a private burial service at 10:30 a.m. The family received friends at Mountain Valley Funeral Home in Burleson from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Dolores was born May 31, 1931, in Sentinel, Oklahoma to Roy and Ruth Cate. She graduated from Borger High School in 1948. From there, she attended Baylor University and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where she received a bachelor's degree in religious education and was awarded the Elizabeth B. Price award for being valedictorian of the women's graduating class. With her husband, Jimmie Nelson, Dolores ministered to many people. She was a loving counselor and wonderful Bible teacher. Together, they served several Baptist churches including Oak Grove Baptist Church, Fort Worth, Colonial Hill Baptist Church, Snyder, Texas, First Baptist Church of Deer Park, Texas, churches in The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Barcelona, Spain, and at the Canadian Baptist Seminary in Cochrane, Calgary, Canada. Dolores was a Bible teacher to young people for many years, and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Burleson for more than thirty years. She also worked as a substitute teacher for many years in the Burleson Independent School District. She was a gifted writer and wrote curriculum, teaching materials and devotionals for the Baptist Sunday School Board (Lifeway). Known for her creativity, she coined the motto for the city of Fort Worth during the U.S. bicentennial: "Fort Worth: Where the Pioneer Spirit Is Alive And Well." Dolores was active in the Seminary Women's Club at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and served as an officer and President. She loved to read mysteries and to travel. She had a knack for storytelling, and brightened conversations with her clever sense of humor. Above all, she was known for her warmth, her kindness, and her compassion. Her faith defined her life. Dolores is survived by her husband, Jimmie L. Nelson of Burleson; her two sons, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Robin Nelson, of Terrero, New Mexico, and J. Alan Nelson and his wife, Susan Innmon Nelson, of Waco; daughter, Julie Cate Nelson Couch and her husband, Robert E. Bobby married his high school sweetheart, Kim Wadsworth on October 3, 1980. He was an aerospace assembler with Lockheed-Martin Aerodynamics for 13 years, in which he had the opportunity to participate in the production of the International Space Station and was honored to work with astronauts at NASA. Bobby was a member of First Baptist Church in Cleburne. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. C. Mackay Christianson was born near Hinckley, Minnesota, on October 11, 1921, and went to his rest December 4, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was a graduate of the class of 1946 of Union College, Lincoln, Nebraska. He was an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church for 39 years, eight of which were spent in Columbia, Venezuela and Panama. Mr. Christianson was preceded in death by his son, David. He and his wife, Esther were soon to celebrate 59 years of marriage. He is survived by daughters, Dawna Hoerner of Miamisburg, Ohio and Cathie Workman of Albuquerque, New Mexico; also, sons Jim and Tom from Alvarado. Mr. Christianson's memorial service was held December 6 in the Alvarado Seventh-day Adventist Church. His resting place is the Keene Cemetery awaiting the coming of the Lord.

She had been a resident of Joshua for 19 years, and taught fifth grade at Joshua Intermediate School. She married Bentley T. Hall on April 13, 1968, in Orange, Texas. Marilyn was healed of cancer and wrote a book entitled "In His Hands." She spoke in churches and to women's groups all over the country and always had a smile on her face and a song in her heart. She brought out the best in everyone. Her philosophy in life was, "You have to love the unlovable." She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Bentley T.
