Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Venable Jeffress, 88, of Burleson are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19 at Laurel Land of Burleson Memorial Chapel. Burial will be at Burleson Memorial Park. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 18 at Laurel Land of Burleson. Mrs. Jeffress died Saturday, October 14, 2000, in Fort Worth. She was a homemaker. She was born October 25, 1911, in Bono, Texas. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Jeffress was preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Bud) Jeffress. She is survived by daughter, Kathryn Hamm; grandchildren, Johnny Lee Hamm and wife, Angie, and Mary Kaye Largent and husband, Joe; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Velma Venable and Eva Mae Venable; and several nieces and nephews. DELLA MINNIE NAIVAR KOCUREK

Funeral services for Della Minnie Naivar Kocurek, 94, of Burleson were held Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Rosenberg, Texas. Burial was at Morton Cemetery in Richmond, Texas. Mrs. Kocurek died Tuesday, October 10, 2000, in Fort Worth.
She was born March 18, 1906, in Vox Populii, Texas, near Cat Springs, to John Josef Naivar and Frances Frnka Naivar. They moved from Cat Springs to Ratibor, near Temple, where she attended Lost Prairie School (and even stayed on to teach sixth grade.) Her parents farmed and had a mercantile store. Della came to Rosenberg where her sister Carrie lived, and she worked as a waitress at the "Harvey House" by the railroad. She met and fell in love with Willie Albin Kocurek. They married on January 6, 1929. Della attended the Buddy Benz School of Floral Design in Houston, as did three daughters and one granddaughter. She was blessed with green thumbs and won many blue ribbons at the Fort Bend County Fair. She and Bill started Kocureks Flower Shop in 1950. After both retired in 1970, Della and Bill moved to Jewett, Texas to raise cattle. Bill passed away in 1986, but Della remained there with the garden, cattle, guineas, ducks and turkeys. She especially loved her family, fishing on her own lake, watching football, collecting salt and pepper shakers, gardening, flowers, playing 42, cooking, baking and reading. Although she attended the Rosenberg Brethren Church in Rosenberg, they attended the First United Methodist Church in Jewett, Texas since 1970. Della remained at the farm until 1994, when she moved to Kateland Square in Richmond, Texas, and later to Stonegate Nursing Center in Fort Worth. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August, 2000. She passed away peacefully Tuesday night, October 10, 2000. Mrs. Kocurek was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Bill; her brothers and sisters, Albin Naivar, Annie Vasicek, Matilda Sodek, Mary Talasek, Carrie Talasek, Frank Naivar, Ed Naivar, and siblings Johnny and Ema who died as children. She is survived by children, Frances Wheat and husband, Gene, of Burleson, Joyce Brooks and husband, Jon, of Lewisville, William Kocurek and wife, Mary Jane, of Richmond, Marvin Kocurek and wife, Esther, of Anchorage, Alaska, Jane Hill and husband, Glen, of Richmond, Alice Kocurek of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Conway Wheat and wife, Connie, Janet Payne and husband, Hoby, Chris Ward, Sabrina Ward, Eric Kocurek and wife, Jennifer, Omar Kocurek; great-grandchildren, Ryan Payne, Jon Wheat, Kamella Wheat, Devin Ward, Taylor Payne; sister-in-law, Elsie Bobo of New Mexico; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mary Lee Cumbie, 80, of Burleson were held Thursday, October 12 at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home in Cleburne. Reverend Rick Owens of St. Matthew Cumberland Presbyterian Church officiated. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Cleburne. Pallbearers were Bill Keeling, Steve Beggs, Tracy Beggs, Charles West, Jack West and Jerry West. Mrs. Cumbie died Monday, October 9, 2000, at her home. She was a homemaker. She was born August 26, 1920, in Ben Wheeler, Texas. She was a member of St. Matthew Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burleson and Eastern Star Chapter 253 in Midland. Mrs. Cumbie was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Brown Cumbie, on June 1, 1992. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Barbara Cumbie of Burleson and Joe and Janie Cumbie of Eagle Pass, Texas; brother, James Beggs of Midland; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services for Skip Bailey, 42, of Fort Worth were held Monday, October 2 at Laurel Land Cemetery in Fort Worth. Dr. Gene Wolfenbarger officiated. Mr. Bailey died Saturday, September 30, 2000, at a local hospital. He was a maintenance worker for the Crowley I.S.D. He was born May 8, 1958, in Kansas City, Missouri to James Lavern Bailey and Phyllis Larue Fiester. He was a resident of Fort Worth for the past four years. A member of the Mountain Valley Country Club for many years, he loved playing golf. He was devoted to watching his daughters play basketball and going to the rodeo. He was also a gate security guard at the Stock Show in Fort Worth for many years. "HOOK 'EM HORNS." Mr. Tom Holcomb, minister of East Side Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was at Snyder Cemetery. Mrs. Darlin died Tuesday, September 26, 2000, at her home in Snyder after a lengthy illness. She was a housewife. She was born October 4, 1914, in McCauley, Texas. She married Walter D. Darlin on November 27, 1932, in Spur, Texas. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and a member of the East Side Church of Christ in Snyder. A former resident of Lubbock and Brownfield, she had lived in Snyder since 1976. Mrs. Darlin was preceded in death by her husband Walter Darlin on March 15, 1997, and by her sister, Era Bratcher. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Cynthia Darlin of Snyder, and Walter Bruce and Mary Lou Darlin of Burleson; sisters, Cora Rose Jones of San Angelo and Julie Woodard of Brownfield; brothers, B.D. BONNIE LOUISE BRATTON HOLMES
Funeral services for Bonnie Louise Bratton Holmes, 72, of Burleson were held Tuesday, September 26 at Boulevard Baptist Church in Burleson. Burial was at Emerald Hills Memorial Park in Kennedale. Mrs. Holmes died Saturday, September 23, 2000, at a medical center. She was a homemaker. She was born in New Hope Community to the late Hans F. and Irene Arnold Feddersen where she attended church with her family. She attend school at both New Home and Rendon until she was 14. From 1942 until 1966, she lived in Fort Worth where she attended Maddox Avenue Baptist Church and Rolling Hills Baptist Church. She was always a helpful wife, mother, daughter, sister and aunt. She was always faithful to her Savior and had a passion for gospel music. In May of 1966, she and Robert moved both their home and church to Burleson where she continued her faithful service to the Lord and others. Mrs. Holmes is survived by her husband, Robert (R.L.) Holmes of Burleson; son, Milton R. Bratton and wife, Patricia, of Arlington; four granddaughters; two grandsons; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins. Funeral services for Valda Dyer Pendergraft, 93, of Burleson were held Monday, September 25 at First Baptist Church of Burleson. Interment was at Rose Cemetery in Hobart, Oklahoma. Mrs. Pendergraft died Saturday, September 23, 2000, in Burleson. She was born February 14, 1907, in Hobart, Oklahoma to Lucius and Maude Dyer. She married Ramon Lee Heffner on January 5, 1926; he preceded her in death in 1944. She later married Arthur Lee Pendergraft on May 17, 1951; he passed away in November, 1973. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a baby sister, Virginia Castle; and one brother, Wayne Dyer, who was shot down over Germany in 1944. Mrs. Pendergraft had been a resident of Burleson since 1976. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Burleson and a world traveler. She loved her church and enjoyed crocheting and gardening. She had worked for the FHA in Oklahoma and the Navajo Service in Arizona. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Pendergraft is survived by a son, James R. Heffner of Burleson; sister, Freda Cary of Hobart, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Cheri Stripling, Rob Orr and his wife,Pam; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of friends. Funeral services for William "Bill" Driver, 73, of Everman were held Wednesday, September 20 at Hallmark Baptist Church. Burial was at Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Driver died September 17, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a flooring contractor. He was born March 27, 1927, in Yankton, South Dakota to William A. and Laverna Ann Driver. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Hallmark Baptist Church. He was a faithful and loving husband and a patient and supportive parent and grandparent. He had a great sense of humor, gentle spirit and pleasant personality. He saw only the good in people and was loved by all who knew him. During his darkest days he never complained, but continued to praise God for his goodness. He raised his children to love and honor God. Reverend Scott Sharman and Reverend Jerrell Elston officiated. Burial was at Burleson Memorial Park in Burleson. Miss Douglas died Wednesday, September 20, 2000, at a Fort Worth Nursing Center. She was born October 12, 1966, in Fort Worth to Robert Hal Douglas, Sr. and Lynda Lee Higgins. She was a lifelong resident of Burleson and was a 1987 graduate of Burleson High School. She was a member of the Crestmont Baptist Church of Burleson. Tina had experienced a lifelong battle with Spina Bifida. Despite her handicap, she had a tenacious spirit and rarely questioned her illness. The family would like to thank the Castle Peak Hospice and Forest Hill Nursing Home for their love and care. Miss Douglas was preceded in death by her grandparents, Cheesy and Velma Higgins, Cecil and Mary Douglas, and a cousin, Bryan Douglas. Funeral services for Ken Greiner, 71, of Joshua, will be held Friday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mountain Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Burleson. Mr. Greiner died Monday, September 18, 2000, at a local care center. He was a district manager for Axelson, Inc. He was born June 22, 1929, in Ponca, Oklahoma. He married Bobbie Anderson on September 24, 1964, at Aztec, New Mexico. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Reece Prairie Baptist Church and was active with the Senior Citizens in Burleson. Mr. Greiner is survived by his wife, Bobbie Greiner, of Joshua; sons and daughters-in-law, Roy and Judy Greiner of Redding, California, William J. and Sandy Greiner of San Diego, California; sons, Bob Davis of Farmington, New Mexico, Dave Davis of Farmington, Jerry Greiner and Dale Greiner; one sister, Dorothy Laughin of Cushing, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was employed by Miller Brewing Company for 26 years. He was born April 26, 1946, in Colorado City, Texas. He was a resident of Burleson for the past 30 years. Mr. Pendergrass was an avid golfer and played in the 1996 Colonial Pro-AM. He was a loving husband and father. He was a truck driver for Central Freight Company, retired after 20 years. He was born November 24, 1942, in Fort Worth. He was a graduate of Burleson High School in 1962, a member and deacon of Crestmont Baptist Church and Director of the Southern Gospel Music Association. He sang gospel music since 1975 and was lead singer and manager of Kings River Quartet. He was a loving husband, father and brother, and a friend to everyone. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Genell Smith, and his parents-in-law, A.D. and Lillian Caraway. Funeral services for Paul Monroe Mathis, 84, of Burleson were held Monday, August 28, at First United Methodist Church in Burleson. Burial was at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Mr. Mathis died Friday, August 25, 2000, at a Burleson care center. He was a machinist for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Boaz, Alabama, retired after 38 years. The son of a sharecropper, Mr. Mathis spent his early years living and working on various farms in Alabama and Mississippi. He and his family moved to Burleson in 1983. He made friends quickly at Bransom's Grocery Store where he was employed part time. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burleson. He was a Mason and enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading and being a home handyman. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He lived his life strictly by the American "work ethic" and had a high regard for education. He was known for his friendliness, clever wit and storytelling. Funeral services for Kris Lee Everett, 40, of Burleson are scheduled Thursday, September 14 at 11:30 a.m. at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home in Cleburne. Reverend Robert Graham will officiate. Burial will be at Pleasant Point Cemetery in Johnson County, Texas. Pallbearers are Scooter Coward, Casey Norrell, Ricky Norrell, Matt Shehorn, Monte Shehorn and Michael Threadgill. Mr. Everett died Saturday, September 9, 2000, in Burleson.
He was born August 6, 1960 in Cleburne.
Mr. Everett was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen Everett, in 1997. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Shirley Ann and Joby Young of Cleburne; father and stepmother, Bobby and Judy Everett of New Braunfels; sister and brother-in-law, Kori and Scooter Coward of Cleburne; three stepbrothers; three stepsisters; grandparents, Benson and Lorena Shehorn of Cleburne, and Willie and Sue Everett of Shiner, Texas; cousin, Misti Jones of Pennsylvania; niece and nephew, Kirsti and Quade Coward of Cleburne; aunts and uncles, Bill and Glenda Shehorn of Burleson, and Candy and Bill Jones of Pennsylvania; and lifelong friend, Rollin Timmons of Burleson. Memorial services for Michael David Grantham, 40, of Mansfield were held Thursday, September 7 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Mansfield. Mr. Grantham died Monday, September 4, 2000, in a local hospital. He was an auto mechanic. He was born April 11, 1960, in Lawrence,Kansas.Mr. Grantham enjoyed working with cars and trucks and was known for his unique ability to repair older model vehicles. He was always willing to help his many friends with their automotive problems. Mr. Grantham is survived by his parents, Bob and Carol Ann Grantham of Mansfield, and Lewis and Deanna Waggaman of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Brian Grantham of Mansfield; sister, Heather Hines and her husband, Dwight, of Burleson; step-sister, Barbara Ford and her husband, Charles, of Mansfield; grandparents, Mildred Ellis of Salina, Kansas, and Harlan and Margaret Grantham of Kansas City, Kansas; five nieces and one nephew. He will also be greatly missed by Maria Roser, Kim and Bill Manzarek, and his many friends from groups he belonged to. Guardian Funeral Home of Fort Worth handled the arrangements.

Funeral services for Monroe "Monty" E. Marion, 40, of Crowley were held Tuesday, September 12 at Royal Oaks Church in Fort Worth. Pastor John Herweg officiated. Interment was at Laurel Land Memorial Park in Fort Worth. Mr. Marion died Friday, September 8, 2000, in Fort Worth. He was a machinist. He was born January 5, 1960. He was a member of the Royal Oaks Church. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. Mr. Marion was preceded in death by his father, Harold Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Marion; children, Angela Enrriques, Vanessa Enrriques, Stephen Enrriques, Sara Marion and Kristina Marion; mother, Ann Marion; brothers, Mark Marion and Tommy Marion; sisters, Pam Gilley and Leslie Marion; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services for Lorraine (Mamaw) Robertson, 59, of Alvarado were held Tuesday, September 5 at Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home Chapel Fort Worth/Burleson. Burial was at Skyvue Memorial Gardens in Mansfield. Mrs. Robertson died Thursday, August 31, 2000, at her home. She was Office Manager for Campbell Auto Body in Benbrook. She was born May 31, 1941, at Van Alstyne, Texas.
Mrs. Robertson is survived by sons, Randy Robertson of Cedar Park, Texas, Steve Robertson of Burleson and Greg Robertson of Fort Worth; brothers, Clyde Stevens, H.S. Stevens, Jr. and Wayne Stevens; sisters, Beulah Mae Bell, Jesse Burke and Jewell Franklin; grandchildren, Ashley Robertson of Cedar Park, Amanda Robertson of Cedar Park, Lyndsay Robertson of Burleson and Ethan Robertson of Keller. Funeral services for A.W. "Whit" Miller, 83, of Burleson were held Saturday,September 2, at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Burleson. Reverend Jay Darnell and Reverend Dr. Jim Sanders, Jr., officiated. Burial was at Burleson Memorial Park. Mr. Miller died Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at a Harlingen hospital. He was a retired Dairy Farmer. He was born January 22, 1917. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a registered sanitarian, inspecting dairies in Fort Worth. Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of Burleson and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Burleson. He had served two terms on the Burleson School Board. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carleeta Miller of Burleson; son, Jack Miller of Burleson; daughter, Kathy Lewis of Fort Worth; sisters, Jackie Deering of Fort Worth, Melba Cowsert of Blanco, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Trammell and Scott Lewis, both of Fort Worth, Jesse Lewis of Austin, Amanda Miller and Jack Miller III, both of Burleson; great-grandchildren, Kimber Trammell, Kathryne Lewis, Halley Lewis and Stephen Lewis, all of Fort Worth. Funeral services for Otto Jean, 68, of Whitney were held Friday, September 1 at Laurel Land of Burleson Chapel. Burial was at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas. Mr. Jean died Wednesday, August 30, 2000, at a Fort Worth hospital. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant. He was born November 7, 1931, in Whitney. He retired from the US. Air Force after 21 years of service. He was a charter member of VFW Post #9299, Alvarado; commander of Alvarado American Legion #426; commander of Burleson American Legion #549; past 6th District American Legion commander; and a member of Whitney Post #522. Mr. Jean is survived by his wife, Wynnette Jean of Whitney; sons, Otto W. Jean of St. Louis, David W. Jean and his wife, Patricia, of Fort Worth and Randy S. Jean and his wife, Carla, of Burleson; daughters, Cindy Hampton and her husband, Roy, of Burleson, Renee Carr of Fort Worth; stepson, Paul Avena and his wife, Candy, of Saginaw; stepdaughters, Michelle Avena of Fort Worth, Suzanne Houchins of Fort Worth and Denise Avena of Fort Worth; brother, Jimmy Jean and his wife, Nancy, of Austin; sister, Sondra Milligan of Fort Worth; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Ruby Lee Kiesling, 78, of Burleson were held Saturday, September 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Charity Lutheran Church, 1101 S.W. Wilshire Boulevard in Burleson. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Kiesling died Tuesday, August 29, 2000, in Burleson following a brief illness. She was a housewife and care giver for her ill husband of 59 years. She was born October 1, 1921, in Olney. She was a kind and loving mother and wife. Mrs. Kiesling is survived by her husband, Fred Kiesling; brother, Arville Kunkel; children, Barbara Maley, Sharon McComas, Robert Kiesling, John Kiesling, Ronald Kiesling and Renee Griffin; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was a loving person who will live on in her children's hearts. Greenwood Funeral Home of Fort Worth handled the arrangements.
