Joyce Bullard, 51, of Dayton, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004 at the Cleveland Regional Hospital after a life long and courageous battle with juvenile diabetes.
She was born August 24, 1953 in Brownsville, Tenn. to parents: James T. Gooch and Lucille Aggie Gooch. She had been a resident of Dayton for the past 20 years. Mrs. Bullard loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading especially her Bible and going to church. She also enjoyed fishing and her dogs.
Service for Mrs. Bullard will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 23, 2004 at the Rural Shade Baptist Church with Rev. Silas Hare officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

A.T. Buddy Cherry, 86, of Dayton, died Sunday, October 17, 2004, at the Heritage Villa Nursing Home in Dayton.
Funeral services will be held at 10 Am, Thursday, October 21, 2004, at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with burial following at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington Prairie. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday, a the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Buddy was born December 4, 1918 in Dayton to parents; Arthur A. and Julia White Cherry, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a retired heavy equipment operator and enjoyed hunting, horses, his dogs, the outdoors, and tall tales.
Mr. Cherry was preceded in death by his parents, wife: Lillie Mae Holt Cherry, and sister: Audrey Cherry Guthrie. He is survived by his daughter: Carol Ann Manning and husband Richard of Dayton, son: Jerry Cherry and wife Linda of Athens, GA, five grandchildren: Julie Mifflin and husband Tommy of Dayton, Russell Ginsel and wife Sharon of Dayton, Sara Nuckolls and husband Will of MD, Ray Cherry and wife Mary of VA, and Ben Cherry and wife Rachel of TN, four great-grandchildren: Ray and Ryan Ginsel and Leah and Drew Cherry, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Paul Vincent Daniels, 85 of Liberty, died Saturday, October 16, 2004 in Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Funeral services will be 2pm, Monday, October 18, 2004 at First United Methodist Church in Liberty. Interment will follow at Cooke Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm until 7pm on Sunday at Allison Funeral Service.
Mr. Daniels was born February 14, 1919 in Gilmer, TX to James Franklin & Vira Elizabeth Gaines Daniels. He moved to Liberty in the early sixties. Paul was the former owner of Trinity Glass & Mirror until November of 1999. He was a former Mayor and city council man of Liberty. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberty.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his wife Verlene Daniels of Liberty; step-sons E. Dale Darter & wife Patsy of Haughton, LA, Bruce A. Darter & wife Sandy of Liberty; step-daughter Connie J. Fontenot
Elder Lee Fontenot, 62, of Liberty, died Friday, October 8, 2004 at his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Liberty, enjoyed hunting with his family and was a retired rice farmer. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2004 at the Wilderness Church in Liberty with Rev. James Crouthers officiating. Burial will follow at the Monroe Fregia Cemetery under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
He is survived by: Wife: Norma Jean Fontenot of Liberty; Sons: Larry Fontenot and Steven Fontenot of Liberty; Step-Son: Gerald Wilkerson of Frederick, Maryland; Sister: Dorothy Jean Fregia of Raywood and numerous Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by: Parents: Tom Fontenot and Selma Nugent Fontenot and Children: April Fontenot, Edward Fontenot and Terry Fontenot.

Ewing
W. Jewel Ewing of Riverton, Wyoming died Monday, October 4, 2004 at the Lander Valley Medical Center in Lander. She was 88 years old.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 9, at the Batson Prairie Baptist Church in Batson, Texas. The Rev. O. G. Garcia will officiate. Interment will follow at the Guedry Cemetery in Batson.
Wilma Jewel Deckert was born December 1, 1915 in Sour Lake, Texas, the daughter of Joe L. Deckert and Rissie (Richie) Deckert. She lived in Hull, Texas for most of her life, coming to Riverton in 2001. She was a World War II bride, married to Elgie Ewing for over 60 years. They were married in Saratoga, Texas. He died in 2001. Mrs. Ewing was a member of the Baptist faith and had been active in the Batson Prairie Church. Her family said she enjoyed playing bingo, word search puzzles, loved her grandchildren, and her desire was to take care of others.
Survivors include a daughter, Wilma Garcia of Riverton; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe Deckert of Batson, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elgie Ewing in 2001; four brothers, one sister, her parents, and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to Westward Heights Nursing Home in Lander, Wyoming. Local arrangements are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, Texas. Visitation will be Friday, 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Batson Prairie Baptist Church in Batson.

Jeffie R. Bankston, 55, of Kenefick, died Sunday, October 3, 2004, at her residence.

Jeffie was born March 28, 1949 in Baytown to parents; G. F. Hudman and Margie Faye Brooks, a former resident of Baytown, and has resided in the Kenefick area for the past six years. She was a graduate of the Galena Park High School class of 1967, member of the Kenefick Southern Baptist Church, and enjoyed flower arranging and gardening, sewing, and cooking.
Mrs. Bankston was preceded in death by her father and sister: Brenda Faye Cole. She is survived by her husband of 37 years: Gary Bankston of Kenefick, son: Dale Bankston and wife Christy of Houston, daughter: Lori Reisner and husband Robert of Cameron, four grandchildren: Shelby, Perry, Devinne, and Liberty, mother: Margie Faye Hunt and husband Chester of Longview, and numerous other relatives, and friends.

Ruby Lillian Guidry, 86 of Devers, died Friday, October 1, 2004 at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 2pm, Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Devers. Interment will follow at Sahara Cemetery in Devers. Visitation will be Monday from 5pm until 8pm at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty.
Mrs. Guidry was born in Sour Lake on March 12, 1918 to Giley Day & Esther Clark Freeman and was raised in Devers. She married Thomas Guidry on May 18, 1939 in Beaumont. She was a nurses aid at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 18 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Devers, the WMU at church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and her family.
She is survived by her 2 sons William Nathan Guidry and Donald Fred Guidry. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Nicol
Donald Nicol, 46, of Dayton passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at home.
He was born October 8, 1958 in San Bernadino, California to parents John Louis and Connie Nicol. He attended High School in Tarkington. He was an exceptional hunter and fisherman, especially fishing with his father. He was known as a very funny, live and let live kind of guy. He had lived the past 15 years in Dayton.
Graveside service will be held, 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 1, 2004 at Scholobohn Cemetery in Humble under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
Mr. Nicol was preceded in death by his mother, Connie and brother, Ronald Eugene Nicol. LeMay
James (Paw-Paw) LeMay, 65, of Dayton died Monday, September 27, 2004 at M D Anderson Hospital in Houston.
He was born November 26, 1938 in Rustin, Louisiana to parents J. W. and Ida Irene LeMay. He has lived in Dayton for the past 20 years and was currently employed with Liberty County where he was a heavy equipment operator. Mr. LeMay loved his family and his pets. He enjoyed his work and running big heavy equipment.
Service for Paw-Paw will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, September 30, 2004 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Louise Harrison. Harmon
Thomas E. Peanut Harmon, 85, of Moss Bluff, died Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at the Allenbrook Nursing Home in Baytown.
He was a native of Montgomery, Texas, lived in Moss Bluff for the last 40 years, member of V.F.W. Post #5621 in Liberty, member of the Moss Bluff Volunteer Fire Department serving as Chief for 25 years and was a Foster Parent to many children at the Faith Home in Houston. He also served in the Army defending his country that he loved and received a Purple Heart for injuries he sustained.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30, 2004 at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton. Burial will follow at the Norris Cemetery in Moss Bluff under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.

Dustin Allen Fincher, 14, of Dayton, passed away Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. He was born June 20, 1990 in Baytown to parents Eddie Allen Fincher, Jr. and Wandella Reese. He attended Barbers Hill Middle School. He enjoyed playing football, skateboarding, riding his bicycle and playing his playstation II. He had lived in Dayton for the past two months and previously lived in La Porte.
Service for Dustin will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton with Rev. Gene Summers officiating. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin, Texas.

Mrs. Fregia was born in Cameron, Texas, to Connie Brice Edmonds and Cora Walston Edmonds, on January 19, 1917.

James Madison Fregia, age 96, of Hull, TX., died Tuesday in a Liberty Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2004 at the New Life Assembly Of God on Highway 105, in Batson, TX., at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. C. W. Bill Campbell officiating, with burial to follow in the Guedry Cemetery, Batson, TX., A visitation will be held in the New Life Assembly Of God on Friday, September 10, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
James was born on April 25, 1908 in Batson, TX., to Lezam Fregia and Julia Marcontell Fregia. He was a real cowboy, worked cows and made many cattle drive in South Texas and Louisiana. As one ole timer said, There never was a horse Madison could not ride . Madison worked many years for the John W. Meacom Company as a roughneck and rig operator in the oilfield. He enjoyed working in the garden and taking care of his animals. Madison cared for his fellowman and loved his church family. In his later years he grew closer to the Lord and was an inspiration to the younger generation. He had a great love for his family and will missed by many a friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son: John Raymond Fregia, two daughters: Linda Faye and Dorothy Jean Fregia, and all of his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years: Maybell Fregia of Hull, Sons and daughters-In-Law: Wesley and Lynette Fregia of Winnie, Vernon and Macie Fregia of Splendora, Tommy and Roberta Fregia of Hull, and C. D. and Anna Fregia of Hull, 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 39 great great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews and cousins who loved him.

Johnson
Roger Dale Johnson, II, 20, of Houston, died suddenly Friday evening, September 24, 2004. He was born August 3, 1984 in Houston to parents Roger Dale Johnson and Teresa Johnson Peters. A lifelong resident of the Houston area, he attended C.E. King High School and was currently employed with American Riggers as an iron worker. He like lifting weights and was always punching his punching bag. He enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to hunt and go fishing.
Services for Roger will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 29, 2004 at the Royalwood Pentecostal Church, 7803 Uvalde in Houston. The Rev. Ron Macey will be officiating and interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Dayton under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Cannaday
Harvey Cannaday, 59 of Dayton passed away, Wednesday, September 22, 2004 at his home after an extended illness. He was born June 30, 1945 in Deport, Texas to parents George Lee and Ruth Virginia Cannaday. He graduated from high school in Hitchcock and joined the U.S. Air Force where he served from 1966 until 1969 during Vietnam. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed pittling around the house. He also like the outdoors doing his gardening and hunting.
Graveside Service for Mr. Cannaday will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2004 at Hardin Chapel Cemetery in Hardin with Rev. David Jones officiating. Services are under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.

Robert G. Anderton, 79, of Dayton, died Monday, September 20, 2004 at his residence.

Robert was born December 23, 1924 in Perryton, to parents; Robert and Roxy Cromwell Anderton, a former resident of the panhandle area, and has resided in the Dayton area since 1970. He had attended the Stinett High School and the Wayland Baptist University, was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church, veteran of the US Army during World War II, and had retired from Brown and Root as a welder. Mr. Anderton enjoyed gardening, farming, tinkering, and collecting rocks. He was especially proud of the Three "A s" Ranch.
Mr. Anderton was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and five brothers. He is survived by his wife of 55 years: Bobbie Griffith Anderton of Dayton, son: Robert G. Mrs. Lucille Tucker, 83, of Dayton died September 17, 2004 at home after an extended illness. She was born August 3, 1921 in Tarkington Prairie to parents George and Mary Hudgins. She was a lifelong resident of the Dayton area.

Thelma was born in Livingston, TX. on November 9, 1937 to Burton Joseph Riley and Beatrice Mitchell Campbell. Growing up, she along with her brother, Mickey, resided in Daisetta, TX., with their grandmother, Mary Ann O Brien Riley. She attended Hull-Daisetta High School. On September 7, 1967, she married Raymond Skinny Campbell and resided in Liberty, TX.
Thelma and her husband were former partners and owners of the Camel Well Service. She enjoyed fishing, her grandchildren, great - grandchildren, and weekend trips with her friends. She was loved for her thoughtfulness, selflessness, her fun loving spirit and her laughter. She will live in our hearts forever.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Skinny Campbell, her son: Melvin Boy Nichols, father: Burton Joseph Riley, grandparents: Henry O. and Ruby Campbell, and John and Mary Riley.

Moss
Garland Moss, 60, of Crosby, died Tuesday, September 14, 2004 in Humble. He was born August 23, 1944 in Highlands, Texas to parents, Frank Carol and Ortery Ferguson Moss. He had been a resident of Crosby for the past 35 years and had worked as a maintenance supervisor for the railroad. Mr. Moss loved spending time with his grandchildren. He really enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and Nascar racing.
Service for Mr. Moss will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 18, 2004 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Bro. Bill Campbell officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Buna.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife: Jo Anna Moss of Crosby; sons: James Garland Moss and with Nancy of Crosby, Carl Jefferson Moss and wife Travia of Crosby; daughter: Teresa Romehill and husband Tim of Dayton; sister: Janie Parish and husband Billy of Cleveland. Ellen Joyce Adair, age 72, of Rye, TX., died, Saturday September 11, 2004 in a Dayton Nursing Home.

Elle was born in Pasadena, TX. to Roy Ernest Jackson and Lela Ellen Wheeler Jackson on August 3, 1932. She graduated from the Pasadena High School in 1977. Ellen was a foster parent to many children and at one time had the states largest foster home located in Texas City.
She was a loving role model and parent to all who came thru her home.

Jeff Will Andress, 79, of Liberty passed away Friday, September 10, 2004 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after an extended illness. He was born April 8, 1925 in Shelbyville, Texas to parents, Dennis Ervin and Vega Sally Andress. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II and worked through the years as an oil field worker. He had been a long time resident of Devers and Liberty Co.
Service for Mr. Andress will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 13, 2004 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating. Interment will follow at Whittington Cemetery in Devers.

Velma Helen Poole, 89 of Liberty, died Friday, September 4, 2004 at Liberty Dayton Community Hospital.

Mrs. Poole was a native of Orange, TX and had lived in Liberty since 1917. She was a bookkeeper for Vernon Poole Insurance Company. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Liberty and a former Choir member. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and cooking.
She is preceded in death by her parents William August & Philippina Reinhart Budewig; husband Vernon F. Poole, Sr.; sister Caroline Budewig Russell; brother William Alvin Budewig.

Herbert H. Koen, 73 of Hardin, died Friday, September 3, 2004 at Liberty Health Care Center.

Mr. Koen was a native of Jacksonville, TX and had lived in Hardin most his life. He was a member of the Hardin Methodist Church and a Fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Kittell
Glen Ray Kittell, 67 of Liberty, died Saturday, September 4, 2004 at Liberty Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 2pm, Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Allison Funeral Service with Rev. Douglas B. Finch officiating. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6pm until 8pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kittell was a native of Freeport, Texas and had lived in Liberty for 32 years. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 39 years of service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church serving as an elder and clerk of the session for many years. He served 18 years on the Liberty City Council and was past president of the Liberty Softball Association. He was a football official for many years officiating high school games in the Liberty and Beaumont UIL Districts. Glen was a musician. He loved playing his trumpet for many events and enjoyed marching bands, the Pops, Broadway, and the symphony. He enjoyed traveling especially with his daughters to Las Vegas.
He is preceded in death by his parents Boyd & Flo Kittell and wife Pat Kittell.
He is survived by his daughters Kelly Edwards & husband Greg and Karen Kittell both of Liberty; brother Kenneth Kittell of Colmesneil; granddaughters Allison & Emily Edwards both of Liberty.
Joerg
Ulrich Emil Joerg, age 70, died in a Houston Hospital Wednesday, September 1, 2004.
Ulrich was born May 13, 1934 in Sumiswald, Switzerland, to Edwin Emil Joerg and Elise Zaoralek Joerg. He was a chemical engineer and worked for the Gulf Oil Company for many years. He married Dea Ann Mertz on November 22, 1986 in Las Vegas and they lived in Liberty for two years.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter: Amber Bowling, and a brother Erich Joerg.

Lillie Mae Rives, age 92, a life long residence of Liberty, TX., died in a local hospital, Wednesday, September 1, 2004.

Lillie Mae was born August 26, 1912 in Evergreen, Texas to Sam Houston Stout and Ruby May Shirley Stout. She married Percy Rogers Rives on March 14, 1936. She was a retired food service employee, and a member of the Hardin United Methodist Church.
Lillie Mae is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons: Jimmy Edward Rogers Rives, and James Arther Sug Rives, two brothers: Walter Lee Stout and Billy Oneill Stout and a sister: Addie Pearl Lockhart. And Little Bit .
She is survived by a brother: Sam Edward Stout, three grandchildren: Dwyne Rogers Rives, Steven Dale Rives, and Bonnie Darlene Lorraine, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Courvelle
Flora Dell Courvelle, 89, of Dayton passed away Monday, August 30, 2004 at Heritage Villa Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was born June 2, 1915 in Cold Spring, Texas to parents Julius and Florence Hogue. She was a lifelong resident of Cold Spring until she and her late husband John moved to Highlands where they lived until his retirement from Shell in the early sixties. Living in Cold Spring until she moved to Dayton six years ago. Mrs. Courvelle had attended the Cold Spring Baptist Church. She loved her family and working in her yard.
Graveside service for Mrs. Courvelle will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Cold Spring under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Courvelle and grandson, Sidney Adam Courvell. She is survived by her son: John E. Courvell and wife Emma of Mont Belvieu; daughter: Mary Ann Courvelle of Cold Spring; four grandchildren: John Edward Courvell, Odie Courvell, LaJean Courvell; six great-grandchildren: Tiffany, Adrienne, Chelsea Marie, Waylon, Nolan, and Trever.

Slankard
Lynda Slankard, 56, of Batson, passed away Monday, August 30, 2004 in Liberty after an extended illness. She was born June 12, 1948 in Beaumont to parents, Cecil and Pauline Slankard. She graduated from Hardin High School and attended Sam Houston State University. Ms. Slankard worked in Mt Calvary Church Library and was loved dearly by her family.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Batson with Rev. Carlton Bailey. Interment will follow at Guedry Cemetery. She is survived by her parents, Cecil and Pauline Slankard of Batson; brother: Cecil E. Slankard, Jr. and wife Brenda of Moss Hill.
