Pat Fortner, 65, of Hankamer, died Monday, December 9, 2002, at the Bayside Community Hospital in Anahuac.
Funeral services will be held at 10 Am, Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Anahuac with burial following at Anahuac Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 Pm to 9 Pm Tuesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
Pat was born Chicago, IL to parents; Peter Jebe and Minnie Christensen Jebe, a former resident of Clear Lake and has resided in the Hankamer area for the past 24 years. She was a graduate of the Anahuac High School class of 1955, and former employee of Lindaճ Gifts and Hillճ Grocery in Anahuac. She also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching basketball, football, and auto racing.
Mrs. Fortner was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 46 years: Charles Fortner of Hankamer, daughters: Donna Capps and husband Chuck of Aiken, SC and Loretta Pringle and husband Danny of Anahuac, grandsons: Charlie Capps and Kyle Pringle, and numerous other relatives, and friends. Smith
Myron David Smith, age 74, of Dayton, Texas, died Sunday, December 8, 2002, at Magnolia Place Health Care Center in Liberty, Texas.
He was a native of Fort Smith Arkansas and a long time resident of Dayton. Smitty was employed by Dayton ISD where he will fondly be remembered as trainer for the Dayton Broncos and was often referred to as "Mr. Bronco." He served in the Army in the early 1950's.
He was the son of the late Arthur Smith and the late Kathryn (Cannedy) Smith and is survived by his one sister, Frances Allen of Pasadena and niece, Imelvia Adams. Also by a very good friend Bob Edwards.
Arrangements are being handled by Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, 1304 N. Cleveland Street, Dayton, Texas, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 10, 2002. Funeral Services will be at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 11, 2002, Rev. Wayne Hardin officiating. Interment will be at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton, Texas.

Koen William "Bill" Alexander Koen 75, died at his residence Friday, December 6, 2002.
Services are planned for Monday 2:00 PM, December 9, 2002 at North Main Baptist Church with rev. Jim Clemmons officiating, burial will follow in the Hardin Chapel Cemetery. The visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM Sunday December 8, 2002 at the church.
Mr. Koen was born March 28, 1927 in Tecula, Texas to parents Hugh Brown Koen & Bertha Elizabeth Alexander. He married Margaret Jaunita Jacobs, May 19, 1945 to this union was blessed 5 children. Mr. Koen was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard where he attained the rank of Seaman First Class. He retired from the Exxon Corporation as a Fire and Safety Coordinator. He was a resident of Grand Isle, La., before coming to Hardin, Texas where he and his wife of 57 years have lived since 1987. Bill as his friends knew him was involved innumerous clubs and organizations such as; Boy Scouts, Masons, Cub Scouts, American Legion, Senior Citizen International Association of Fire Chiefs, Fireboard Commissioner of Liberty County, Lions Club, Rotary Club, Member of the United Way, Guest Speaker and Instructor for the Texas A & M Fire School and Lamar University Fire School and the International Association of Drilling Contractors.
Mr. Koen is survived by his wife Margaret Juanita Koen, of Hardin, Texas his 4 children Theresa Dianne Bruce & husband Douglas of Russellville, AK, Anita Jane Brown & husband Larry of Hardin, TX, William Michael & wife Edwina of Hardin, TX and Norma Mae Thibodeaux & husband Currnell James, Jr. of The Woodlands, Tx by 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and by 3 brothers Herbet Koen & wife Betty of Hardin, TX, James Koen & wife Jeanette of Pattison, TX, Elgin Koen & wife Bessie of Baldhill, TX and by 2 sisters: Rachel Kersh of Hardin, TX and Omelia Rabner of Houston, TX.
Mr. Koen was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Norman, Eldren Koen and two sisters Opal Fenton, Janie Matthews and by one son Gary Wayne Koen.

Bob was born May 26, 1925 in Lockhart, Arkansas to parents; James E. Howard and Minnie Bell McCoy Howard, a former resident of Newport, AR and LaPorte, and has resided in the Wallisville area for the past 22 years. He was a retired Painter for Painters Local #130 at NASA, had attended the First Baptist Church of LaPorte, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and four-wheeling.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, son: Lonnie Dean Howard, and brothers: Prentice and Lonnie Howard. He is survived by his wife of 50 years: H. Marie Howard of Wallisville, daughters: Reva Roy and husband Mike of Wallisville and Nina Wesson and husband Don of Tacoma, WA, sons: Ricky Howard of Pasadena, Gary Howard and wife B.J. of Anahuac, and Bobby Howard and wife Maxine of Lama Rica, CA, brother: L. Winnie Beth was born August 3, 1929 in Anahuac to parents; John H. Watson and Iris May Watson, and has resided in the Anahuac area throughout her lifetime. She was the retired Owner/Operator of Remember When Antiques in Anahuac and member of the First Baptist Church of Anahuac. She also enjoyed collecting stamps, and buying and selling antiques.

Noo-Noo was born October 26, 1920 in San Antonio to parents: Henry Fulmer and Ora Va Carpenter Fulmer, a former resident of Houston and has resided in the Kenefick/Dayton area for the past 25 years. She was a homemaker, enjoyed painting, other crafts, gardening and especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Leonard was born June 21, 1934 in Parma, MO., to parents; C. A. Moore and Nellie Carr Moore, a former resident of Malden, MO., and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 26 years. He was the retired owner/operator of Mooreճ Radiator and Muffler in Liberty after 25 years of service, graduate of the Malden High School class of 1951, and Veteran and Aerial Photographer of the United States Air Force with service during the Korean Conflict. Throughout his life he enjoyed family gatherings and travel, fishing, hunting, and reading.
Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Donna D. Moore, brothers: Jack Moore and James ԊimՠMoore, and sister: Ruby Opal Lane. Bobby Gene Williams, 62, of Raywood, died Friday, November 29, 2002, at his residence in Raywood.
He was a native of Liberty, a lifelong resident of the Liberty, Moss Bluff and Raywood areas, a retired millwright from Syngenta and was a member of Moss Hill Assembly of God. He was also an avid outdoorsman and a 1959 graduate of Liberty High School. He was the son of the late Earnest Williams and the late Millie (Moss) Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Dorothy "Dee" (Jannise) Williams of Raywood; Two Sons: Bobby G. Williams, Jr. and wife Diadra of San Antonio and Jerry Paul Williams and Rhonda Taylor of Liberty; One Sister: Bonnie Brumley and husband Don of Houston and a Granddaughter: Molly Reagan Williams of San Antonio.

Joe was born July 10, 1918 in Bastrop to parents; Louis and Celia Petty Tiner, a former resident of Baycliff and Smithville, and has resided in the Deer Park area for the past five years. She was a homemaker, attended the Assembly of God Church, and enjoyed quilting, sewing, and watching TV.
Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her parents, husband: James Wallace, father-of-children: Vallon L. Lunday, son: Gene Lunday, daughter-in-law: Virginia Lunday, sons-in-law: Tommy Sampson and Hugh Drake, and brothers: Johnny Tiner and Jimmy Joe Tiner.

James M. 'Jim' Small, 88, of Liberty, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty.
Private family memorial services will be held in West Texas, at a later date. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
Jim was born September 19, 1914 in Queen City to parents; Sam Small and Fannie Yancey Small, a former resident of Evant, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 23 years. He was a retired rough neck and driller from oil field services in Odessa, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, former member of the Civil Conservation Corps, and enjoyed hunting and trapping, fishing, and gardening.
Mr. Small was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Herbert H. Small and Brance Small, and sisters: Dorothy Roberts and Serene Cobb.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years: Carol M. Small of Liberty, sons: Bobby Ray Small of Houston and Johnny W. Arlene Ruth Verdier, 55, of Dayton, died, Monday, November 25, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and worked as a Registered Nurse.
She is survived by her Husband, Joseph Ortego of Dayton; Aunt, Gertrude Deitrich of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Brother-in-law Jimmy Ortego and wife Joy of Port Arthur and a very special lifelong friend, Pam S. Dibbley of Moss Bluff, Louisiana.

Henry (Buddy) Trchalek, Jr., 66 of Kenefick died, Thursday, November 21, 2002 at his home. Buddy was born September 20, 1936 in Baytown.
Buddy was born and raised in Baytown, living many years in Kenefick. He retired as a butcher after working in the surrounding areas. Services will be at 3:00 PM, Sunday November 24, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Trchalek, Sr., and sister Patsy Broussard. He is survived by his wife, Ann Trchalek of Kenefick; mother, Cora Trchalek of Baytown; son Fred Trchalek and Baytown; daughters, Terry Sackett and husband Jimmy of Kenefick, and Janet Jossrand of Dayton; sister, Betty Macken of Baytown and five grandchildren.

He was a native of Mercedes, Texas, had lived in Dayton for the last 6 years, and was a retired self-employed truck driver and a member of the Catholic Church. Betty Jo Leonard, 61, of Tarkington, died Tuesday, November 19, 2002 in Houston after an extended illness.
A native of LaPorte, she had lived the last 7 years in Tarkington. She was retired from Shirley and Sons Construction. Mrs. Leonard was a member of the Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Baytown, formerly a member of the First Assembly of God in LaPorte where she was the church secretary and treasurer. Services will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, November 23, 2002 at the Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God Church in Baytown with Rev. Larry Hayes and Rev. Leroy Fleck officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Jimmy Leonard of Tarkington; Son: Bobby Leonard and wife Laurie of Tarkington; Daughter: JoJie DeLaGarza of Tarkington; Brothers: Ronald Roy Shirley and Grover Dean Shirley both of Tarkington; Sister: Charlene LaFitte of LaPorte; Three Grandchildren: Candi Renae Leonard, Robert Dale Leonard, II and Taylor Renae DeLaGarza. Jeremy Brent Anderson, 27, of Humble died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at his home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at First Baptist Church in Buna with burial at Antioch Cemetery under the direction of E. E. Stringer Funeral Home in Buna. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM, Monday at the funeral home.
A native of Beaumont, longtime resident of Buna and former resident of Liberty, he had lived in Humble two years and worked for Dillard's. He had recently been accepted into the U.S. Air Force as a Navigator.
He is survived by his wife, Jerin Anderson of Humble; mother, Vicki Anderson of Buna; father, David Anderson of Buna; sister: Melissa Drake of Kingwood; and his grandparents, Bill Anderson of Buna; Imogene Ellison of Buna; and Nell Anderson of Buna.

Lowrey
Maxie Lowrey, 72, of Dayton, died November 16, 2002 in Baytown after a brief illness.
A native of Caster, Louisiana, he had been a resident of Kenefick for the past 28 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the V.F.W. Liberty Post and was a 32 degree Mason. Mr. Lowrey taught welding at Dayton High School and Lee College and was currently working in the trucking business.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Mary Ann Lowrey.
Memorial services for Mr. Lowrey will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Pat Savage officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

Boone
Russell Brown Boone, 67, born May 13, 1935 in Houston, Texas to Russell and Mary Frances Brown Boone, died Thursday, November 14, 2002 in Houston.
"Coach", as he was affectionately known by family and friends, was an avid sports fan, especially loving basketball. Beginning his basketball career in Sweeny, Texas, he then attended Tyler Jr. College and finished his college playing career and his teaching degree at the University of Houston. Following college, he coached basketball in Anahuac, Texas until 1979. Among his honors are: Texas State Basketball Tournament Class 2A Single Game Scoring Record of 50 Points, twice named to the National Jr. College Athletic Associations All American Team, named to the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1987, and he was inducted into the Tyler Jr. College Circle of Honor in 1997. He enjoyed reading, listening to good music, attending local athletic events, and reminiscing with and about life-long friends.
Russell is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Strid Boone; two sons, Russell Bret Boone (Cheryl), Arthur Tyson Boone; daughter, Marcia Kaye Boone-Bagwell (James); and four grandchildren, Jessica Lauren Boone, Christopher Ryan Boone, Mitchell Reese Bagwell and Christin Leah Bagwell.

Lavonia Chenall, 69, of Dayton, died Sunday, November 17, 2002, at the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital - Decker campus in Baytown.
She was a native and longtime resident of the Dayton Area, was a retired security guard and waitress and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Burial will follow at the Palms Memorial Park in Dayton under the direction of Pace-Stancil funeral Home in Dayton.
She is survived by Sons: Robert Chenall and his wife Cheryl of Dayton and Marvin Chenall of Dayton; Daughter: Verna Vaughn of Dayton; 3 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her Husband: Vernon Euell Chenall.

Daniel
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 17, 2002 at 2:00 PM, for John Baldwin Daniel, who died on November 12 at his home in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Liberty, with Dr. Charles R. Greene and Dr. David R. Murph officiating. Interment will follow at the Daniel Family Cemetery in Liberty.
Mr. Daniel was born on April 2, 1948, in Austin, TX. He was educated in the public Schools of Austin and Liberty, graduating from Liberty High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University in 1977, majoring in political science and journalism. He also attended Montreat-Anderson College, Montreat, North Carolina, where he was employed at the L. Nelson Bell Library. Mr. Daniel was the author of THIS POOR MAN CRIED, a collection of devotionals on Psalm 34, and he served as a contributing writer for the Citizen's Advocate, Coppell, Texas. He was a member of the Black Mountain Kiwanis Club and a charger member of the Atascosito Historical Society, the support organization for the Sam Houston Regional Library and Research Center in Liberty.
A devout Christian, Mr. Daniel was a member of the Montreat Presbyterian Church and was a regular visitor to the First United Methodist Church, Liberty.

Murph, of Grapevine; his brother, Houston Daniel, and his wife, Charlotte Daniel, of Liberty; his niece, Marilyn Jean Murph, of Austin; and his nephews, Daniel William Murph, of Nolensville, Tennessee, Thomas Houston Daniel, of Austin, Franklin Baldwin Daniel, of Cypress, Timothy Houston Daniel, of The Woodlands, Marion Price Daniel, IV, of Austin, and John Price Daniel, of Liberty. He is also survived by a host of cousins and many friends.

Clarence Ray Stallman, Sr., 48, of Old River, died Monday, November 11, 2002, at his residence.

Ray was born July 11, 1954 in Bakersfield, CA., a former resident of Seabrook and has resided in the Old River area for the past six years. He was a supervisor in construction for Brown and Root with 28 years of service, a veteran of the US Air Force, graduate of the Wasco High School in California and attended college classes while serving in the Air Force. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, gardening, and especially watching movies.

Robert Gene Bob Kopecky, 56, of Dayton, passed away Saturday November 9, 2002 at a Houston, TX hospital. A wake service will be held at 5pm Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1pm Saturday at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton.
Bob was born on November 24, 2002 in Mercedes, Texas to parents Joseph M. Kopecky and Elizabeth Ann Plessel. He served in the Air Force during Viet Nam where he worked on F-4 an F-5 fighter jets. He was a longtime resident of Dayton where he worked for Hughes-Christensen as an Electronics Technologist. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Dayton. He enjoyed reading Tom Clancey novels and fishing. He was also an accomplished woodworker who loved making different types of furniture.
He was preceded in death by his father and his son Shawn Curtis Kopecky. He is survived by his loving wife Linda B. Kopecky of Dayton, mother Elizabeth Ann Kopecky of Weslaco, son George Kopecky and wife Sherry of Cleveland, TX, daughter Elizabeth Moore and husband Toby of Splendora, TX, brothers Joseph Kopecky of San Antonio, TX, George Kopecky of Terrell, TX, Richard Kopecky of Dayton, TX, Paul Kopecky of Dayton, TX and Thomas Kopecky of Weslaco, TX, and three grandsons Clayton Vicars, Austin Vicars and Sean Moore. J. F. "Jack" Baker, 56, of Dayton died Sunday, November 10, 2002 at home after a lengthy illness.
He was a native of El Campo and had lived the past 23 years in the Dayton Area. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Dayton Masonic Lodge #825. Jack was also a former Liberty County Sheriff's Deputy and had worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Services will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 13, 2002 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Bross officiating. Interment will follow at Ryan Cemetery in Tarkington.

Ann Carroll, 76, of Liberty, passed away in Longview on Wednesday, November 6, 2002 after a courageous fight with cancer.

Ann was born September 1, 1926 in Douglas Wyoming, to parents; Ira Eatherton and Lucy Rodgers Eatherton and has resided in the Liberty area for many years. She was a member of Bethel Assembly of God in Liberty and also a member of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church in Longview. She was an inspiration to her family and a joy to everyone who knew her and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Keith Kathan, 71, of Anahuac, died Tuesday, November 5, 2002, at his residence.

Keith was born July 2, 1931 in Galveston to parents; Kenneth Kathan and Anna Mae Reynolds Kathan, a former resident of Winnie and Dallas, and has resided in the Anahuac area for the past 25 years. He was a graduate of the North Dallas High School class of 1947, Southern Methodist University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Journalism in 1956 and was Editor of the Park Cities-North Dallas News during his studies. He began his journalism career after being honorably discharged from the US Air Force as a correspondent for United Press in New Orleans, was a reporter for the Dallas Times Herald covering the Dallas County court system and the Dallas Police department, a Film Editor/Writer for Channel 5 Ҕexas NewsӠin Ft. Worth[the first 7-night a week news program in Southeast Texas], he spent several years in Washington D.C. as an editor for the Life Line Foundation, then came to the Anahuac area and was employed by Thornton Marine Service and also worked as a wire editor for the Beaumont Enterprise, and in 1985 was hired as the Editor for the Anahuac Progress. He served his community as President of Crime Stoppers, the Optimist Club, and the Computer Club, was Publicity chairman of the new Chambers County Emergency Medical System, and served as an Election Judge. He also starred as Fagin in the chambers County Players production of Oliver, and enjoyed fishing, playing golf, reading, and writing poetry.
Mr. Kathan was preceded in death by his parents: Kenneth Kathan and Anna Mae Thornton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Sarah McBryde Kathan of Anahuac, son: Kenneth Kathan of Houston, brother: Andy Thornton of Winnie, sister: Marilyn Adams of Beaumont, sister-in-law: Mary Margaret Moore and husband Don of Argyle, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Tommy Gene Tousha, 61, of Hull died November 4, 2002 in Beaumont after a lengthy illness.
A native of Monroe City, Texas and a long time resident of the Hull area, He had worked as a crane operator. He was affiliated with the Pentecostal Tabernacle in Liberty.
Services for Mr. Tousha will be 3:00 PM, Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Pentecostal Tabernacle with Bro. J. O. Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton, TX.
He was preceded in death by son, Johnny Tousha and brother, Frank Tousha.
