Elizabeth C. Rogers Peeler, 86, of Hankamer, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Kindred Hospital in Pasadena. Graveside services will be held at 10 Am, Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Anahuac Cemetery in Anahuac. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Monday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac. Elizabeth was born October 10, 1916 in Troy, TN to parents; Ira and Elic Calhoun Rogers, a former resident of Water Valley, MS and has resided in the Hankamer area for the past eight years. She was a homemaker, Baptist by faith, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, fishing, and was an avid reader. Mrs. Peeler was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 66 years: Leslie W. Peeler, Jr. in April of 2000. She is survived by her sons: Les w. Peeler, III and wife Nina of Hankamer, David Peeler of Florida, and Jim Peeler and wife Donna of Boling, daughter: Shirley Kephart and husband Ron of Las Vegas, NV, brother: Bill Rogers of Alamo, CA, 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, an numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Donnelly
Amanda Elizabeth Kinsey Donnelly, 30 of Devers, died Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Herman Hospital in Houston. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Allison funeral Service with pastor bill Rosenwald officiating. Interment will follow at Rice Belt Cemetery in Devers. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday at he funeral home. Mrs. Donnelly was a life long resident of Devers. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1991 and attended Lee College and Lamar University. She was a member of Trinity Luther church and enjoyed fishing and visiting with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her grandfather Edd Stilles and aunt Patty Ohrt. She is survived by her son Colby Donnelly; daughter Kacy Herrington; sister Kathryn Fregia; parents Jack & Kathy Kinsey; grandparents Atonia Stilles all of Devers and Billy & Bessie Sproles of Victoria. Numerous other relatives and friends.

Smith
Jack Smith, 77, of Dayton, died Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty. A native of Kaufman, TX. and formerly of Goose Creek, Mr. Smith had been a long time resident of Dayton. He had served in the Merchant Marines and retired from the Coast Guard. He had worked many years for Exxon in Baytown. Smith was a member of the American Legion Post in Dayton and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Service for Mr. Smith will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with Rev. Gene Summers officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Dayton. He is survived by wife: Ann Smith of Dayton; Son: Michael Smith of Houston; Daughter: Pamela Brinkley and husband Wayne of Baytown; Brother: Therman Etim Smith of Baytown; Grandchild: Shannen Hancock of Bastrop and four Great-Grandchildren. Thonsgaard
Palmer Anton Thonsgaard, 69, of Dayton, died July 14, 2003 in Houston after a lengthy illness. A native of El Campo, he had been a longtime resident of Dayton. He attended Texas A&I in Kingsville where he received his master s degree. He taught in Goliad, Aqua-Dulce and El Campo before moving to Dayton. He was employed by the Dayton Independent School District for over 36 years. He taught science, chemistry and 10 years as counselor for Dayton High School. Services for Mr. Thonsgaard will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 17, 2003 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery in Dayton under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. He is survived by his wife, Frances Thonsgaard of Dayton; son, Pete Thonsgaard and wife Tish of Dayton; daughter, Karen Gruenzner and husband Mark of Atascocita; brother, David Thonsgaard and wife Kathleen of El Campo, sisters, Lois Brosh of Danevang, and Eileen Thonsgaard of Sour Lake. Also five grandsons, Jake Thonsgaard, Paul Thonsgaard, Ryan Gruenzner, Kyle Gruenzner, and Dylan Gruenzner. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 8:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Gatlin
Leonard Dempsey Gatlin, Sr., 75, of Liberty, died Monday, July 14, 2003, at the St. Elizabeth s Hospital in Beaumont. Funeral services will be held 10 Am, Thursday, July 17, 2003, at the Fairlawn Memorial Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday, at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Dempsey was born July 19, 1927 in Houston, to parents; Martin V. and Dessie Freeman Gatlin, a former resident of Houston, and has resided in the Liberty area for the past 28 years. He was a graduate of Milby High School, attended the University of Houston, was a veteran of the US Navy with service during the Korean Conflict, and was a retired Long Shoreman for the International Long Shoreman s Local #1273 after 30 years of service. He also enjoyed fishing and sports. Mr. Gatlin was preceded in death by his parents, mother of his children: Odessa Gatlin, wife: B. A. Keith Gatlin, and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son: Leonard D. Bubba Gatlin, Jr. of Liberty, sister: Dorothy Hayes of Lufkin, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Wiggins
Rose Eulalor Wiggins, 46, of Liberty, passed away Saturday night in Hardin, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday (7-20-2003) at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Interment will follow at Linney Cemetery in Dayton. Visitation will be from 5pm-9pm on Friday and 5pm-9pm on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Rose was born on September 9, 1956, in Liberty to parents Perry Weeks Wiggins and Nellie Nadine Clark. She had lived all of her life n Liberty County. In her younger years she worked as a Barbizon Model, Nurses Assistant and enjoyed horseback riding. Later in life she fell ill and was disabled. She loved to sew, draw, and was an accomplished painter. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Liberty. She will be remembered as a kind and giving person who had a great love for her family. Rose was preceded in death by her father, son Jimmy Mitchum, and brothers Terry Lee Wiggins and Perry Dean Wiggins. She is survived by her mother Nellie Nadine Dunigan of Liberty, sons Patrick Pitts and wife Crystal of Conroe, Perry Mitchum of Deer Park and Timothy Juarez of New Caney, daughter Heather Gallegos and husband Chris of Dayton, sisters Denise Slaydon and husband Jerry of Louisiana and Jessica Banning and husband George of Crosby, her grandchildren Erick and Jennifer Rose Gallegos and Justin and Alayna Rose Pitts, a special friend Ali Taami-ala, and numerous other relatives, and friends..

Jordan
Peggy Jordan, 65, of Pasadena, died Monday, July 7, 2003, at the East Houston Regional Medical Center in Houston. Funeral services will be held at 2 Pm, Thursday, July 10, 2003, at the Sterling Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with burial following at Palms Memorial Park in Dayton. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Wednesday at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Peggy was born April 17, 1938 in Blue Eye, MO to parents; William and Cora Mae Powell Perkins, and has resided in the Pasadena area for the past 37 years. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed watching and reading western programs and novels, shopping, flower gardening and creating beadwork Christmas ornaments. Mrs. Jordan was preceded in death by her parents, father of her children: E. J. Jordan, Sr., husband: Fred Goolsby, sisters: Cora Agnes Hendricks, Betty Lafayette, Nancy Medellin, and Pat Mustiavoski, brothers: Bud and Paul Perkins. Charles Daniel "Chuck" Conner, 50, formerly of Dayton died suddenly in Golden, Colorado. Conner had lived the past seven years in Golden where he was the Service Director at Planet Automotive Group. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2003 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Pierce officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta, Texas. He survived by his wife, Kelly Conner of Golden, Colorado; Son, Kyle Phillip con and his wife Jennifer; Daughter: Fanci Conner Hard; Grandchildren: Kati Michelle Hard, Victoria Nicole Jones and Caden Michael Conner; His parents: Charles and Willie Conner of Dayton; Brothers: Richard Conner and Tommy Conner; Sisters: Ethel Hiriart, Jo Ann Gilliland and Cheryl Nugent; also numerous nieces and nephews. Sue Brotherton, age 52, of Liberty, Texas, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at her residence in Liberty, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Parnell Swain and Julia (Townsend) Swain. She is also survived by her husband James Brotherton of Liberty; Two Daughters, Kathy J. Green of Liberty and Patricia Espinoza of Dayton; One Son, James C. Brotherton, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Crystal, MN. One Sister, Yvonne Johnson and husband Fred of Springhill, La.; One Brother, Troy Swain and wife Anita of Choudrant, La.; Sister-in-law, Marie Shaw and husband George of Liberty. Grandchildren: Ashley and Cliff Wells of Liberty; Daniel, Cody and Emily Espinoza of Dayton; also numerous nieces, nephews cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Cohee
Randall L. Cohee, 82, of Kenefick, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Triumph Hospital in Baytown. Memorial Services were held Sunday, July 6, 2003, at the family residence. Randall was born July 11, 1920 in Oklahoma City, to parents; J. C. Cohee and Ella Albright Cohee, and a former resident of San Benito and Oklahoma City, OK. He was a retied printer for the Daily Oklahoma Newspaper after 25 years of service, graduate of the Capital Hill High School, veteran of the US Navy with service during World War II, member of the Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post #5621, member of the Life Christian Center of Midwest City, OK., and enjoyed traveling, gardening, and square dancing. Mr. Cohee was preceded in death by his Parents, wife: Virginia L. Denniston Cohee in April of 2001, Daughter: Rita Park, grandson: Kenny Park, granddaughter: Joy McCartney, and brother: Clarence Cohee. Survivors include, Daughter: Carol Douglas and husband H. B. of Kenefick, Son: Richard Cohee and wife Donnell of Oklahoma City, OK., five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, and numerous other relatives and friends. Richard Herpin, Sr., 80, of Ames, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the Harthstone Assisted Living in Garland. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 Am, Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Ames with burial following at Ames Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 Am to 10 Am with rosary services at 9:30 Am at the church on Saturday. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Richard was born November 10, 1922 in New York City, to parents; Allidan and Louise Melonson Herpin; a former resident of Galveston, and has resided in the Liberty/Ames area throughout most of his lifetime. He was a retired millwright for Diamond Shamrock in Pasadena after 26 years of service, member of the Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, American Legion Post #628, the Tri-County MHMR, Jr. Vice Commander of the Nolan D. Pickett VFW Post #5621, the first black post commander, and the first black Liberty ISD Board Member. He also enjoyed gardening, playing games, calling bingo, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Mr. Herpin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years: Grace E. Mallet Herpin, two sons, and one daughter. He is survived by sons: Richard Herpin, Jr. of Spokane, WA, Michael Herpin and wife Linda of Houston, Christopher Herpin and wife Sueona of Houston, David Herpin of Missouri City, and Allan Herpin and wife Stephanie of Carrollton, daughters: Loretta Herpin of Houston, Phyllis Thibodeaux of Houston, Karen Johnson and husband Charles of Friendswood, and Janet Thompkins and husband Carter of Garland, 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

William A. Buddy Davis, 63, of Dayton, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the Liberty-Dayton Community Hospital in Liberty. Visitation will be held from 5 Pm to 9 Pm, Sunday, July 6, 2003 at the funeral home. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Buddy was born August 16, 1939 in Lodi, to parents; Robert Davis and Margie Howard Davis, a former resident of Lake Tawakoni, and has resided in the Dayton area for the past 11 years. He was a retired carpenter for CCC Group of Pasadena with 25 years of service, an antique and Hot Wheels collector, and enjoyed flea markets, gardening, and games. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Margie Davis. He is survived by his wife: Catherine Burr Davis of Dayton, daughters: Sheila Shaw and husband Edward of Liberty and Rita Gonzalez and husband Joe of Corpus Christi, sons: Rickey Davis and wife Linda of Dayton and Robert Davis and wife Debbie of Ironwood, MI, ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild, sisters: Joyce Weekly and husband Mike of Marshall, Ann Breazeale of Ore City, and Robbie Brown and husband Raymond of Tyler, mother-in-law: Addie Burr of Coushatta, LA, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Marcus L. Hamilton, 17, of Kenefick, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 in Tarkington Prairie. He was a native of Houston, lived most of his life in the Dayton area and was a stocker at Thrif-Tee. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Faith Tabernacle Pentecostals of Tarkington Church with Rev. Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. Jennifer Melton Neal, 34, of Huffman, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston. She was a native of Marks, Mississippi, a longtime resident of Huffman and worked in Automobile Sales. A Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2003 at the Eastgate Catholic Cemetery with the Rev. David Miller officiating. Services will be under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. E. Alan parker, 51, of Willis, Texas died Thursday, June 26, 2003, at his residence. Born in Liberty, Texas, on July 26, 1951 he attended Liberty Schools and graduated from Lamar University. He worked in oil field services. His father, E. C. Parker, precedes him in death. He is survived by his son Ryan Alan Parker of Houston; mother Ruth Parker of Liberty; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Grey Wilkinson of Conroe; sister and brother-in-law, JoBeth Pete Willoughby of Liberty; nephew, Grey Wilkinson of Atlanta, Georgia; nieces, Melanie Steitle of Houston, Amy Whitehead of Clute, Becky Mayes of Flower Mound; and other relatives and friends. Cowan
Etha Dell Cowan, 77, of Liberty died Tuesday, October 14, 2003 at Liberty Health Care Center after an extended illness. Mrs. Cowan was born June 29, 1926 in Centralia, Texas, to parents, Benjamin and Ella Payne, being the youngest of 13 children. She graduated from Dayton High School and lived in Baytown from 1946 until 1994, moving to Liberty until the time of her death. Mrs. Cowan was a member of the Baptist faith and attend Maranatha Church in Mont Belvieu during the later years of her life. She was an avid bowler, being a member of a league in Baytown and known a trophy bowler. Her family and extended family will fondly remember her as a fabulous cook and being Grandmother . She retired from the Kroger Company in Baytown, during her time there she served as a union stewardess. Services for Mrs. Cowan will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2003 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton, Texas. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Park Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Allen Cowan, nine brothers, one half brother, two sisters and grandson, Dwight Douglas. She is survived by her son: Milton Cowan and wife Becky of Baytown; her daughters: Daphne McManus Douglas and Anita Susan Paddie both of Baytown; one sister: Lillian Parker of Segno, Texas; eight grandchildren: Jason Cowan, Kelly Cowan, Kristen Cowan, Kaci Cowan, Tommie-John Douglas, Jr., Denise Douglas Levin, Erica Zeiders, and Derek Paddie; two great grandchildren: Jordyn Serrano and Zack Daniel. Gene J. Beard, Sr., 59, of Dayton, died Sunday, October 12, 2003, at the St. Elizabeth s Hospital in Beaumont. Gene was born February 1, 1944, in Houston, to parents; Marshall and Essie Beard, and has resided in the Dayton area throughout his life. He was a retired boilermaker from the Wyatt Field Service Company after 30 years of service, member of the National Transient Lodge, veteran of the US Army with service during the Vietnam War, Pentecostal by faith, and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and gardening. Mr. Beard was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Jack Beard. He is survived by his daughters: Dorothy Roebuck and husband Matt of Kountze and Evelyn Ford of Port Arthur, sons: Gene J. DeBruhl
W.H. (Bill) DeBruhl, Jr. age 79 died in Houston, Texas on Oct. 12, 2003. Mr. DeBruhl was born in Dayton, Texas on Dec. 29, 1923 to William H. and Beulah Jowers DeBruhl. He grew up in Raywood, Texas and was educated in the Hull-Daisetta ISD. Mr. DeBruhl was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps. In addition to his Air Corps duties, he played the organ and piano for base chapel services and churches in towns and cities where he was stationed and also did musical entertainment. His higher education was received thru the Armed Forces Institute while in the Air Corps. Mr. DeBruhl spent his entire adult business career in the oil field and industrial supply business in the Houston area. He was a lifetime member of Holland Lodge, Masonic Lodge #1, A.F. & A.M., Houston, Texas were he served as organist from 1961 to 2003 and was the first organist to be installed as an officer in a Texas Constituent Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Texas. He received the Golden Trowel in Holland Lodge #1 on May 17, 1995. He was installed as the Grand Organist of the Grand Masonic Lodge of Texas in Waco, Texas for the year 1996. He received an Endowed Membership in Holland Lodge #1, A.F.&A.M. purchased by members, on Jan. 18, 2000 in his honor. On Dec.5, 2000 in Waco, Texas he was also installed as Grand Organist, Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas for 2001. He was a very active member of Big Brothers of Houston, Texas in the 1970 s. He also donated his time and talent doing musical and comedy entertainment programs for non-profit organizations for people of all ages. He served as publicity chairman for the Texas Annual Public Schools Week for the Houston area from 1965 thru 1968. Lillis Edna Swofford, 95 of Hull, died early Friday morning at her residence. Visitation will be held from 5pm-9pm on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. The Rev. Carlton Bailey will officiate. Interment will follow at Guedry Cemetery in Batson. Lillis was born on July 21, 1908, in Kansas to parents Henry Miller an Eunice May Rushon. She had lived in Hull for the last 10 years where she moved from Oklahoma. A homemaker, she had also worked as an activities director for nursing homes. She had been active in garden and bridge clubs in Oklahoma. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and watching game shows on TV. Most of all she loved to spend time with all of her grandkids. Lillis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sampson Johnson, second husband Marion Swofford brother, Henry Miller, and sisters Gussie Adams and Dorothy Sullivan. She is survived by her daughter Sue Ann Edmonson of Hull, grandchildren Dee Ann Ard and her husband Kimmie of Hull, Debbie LeNormond and her husband William of Hull, Latonya Stracner and her husband Jeff of Hull and Jerri Willis and her husband Jerri of DeRidder, LA, and her special nephew Bobbie Adams. She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren 2 nieces and 2 nephews.

F.M. Blackie Graves, 84, of Dayton, died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Graves was born September 29, 1919 to parents, William Frederick Graves and Rena Nottingham Graves. He was a lifelong resident of Dayton, graduate of Dayton High School and member of the First Baptist Church. A well known cattle rancher, rice farmer and business man, he served in many capacities throughout the years in local and state organizations. He was a member of the board of Saddlerock, Corp., along with Jim Sterling and Chester Holbrook, known for the production of the first rodeo to ever be broadcast on NBC television; was an incorporating director and president of Cordovan Publishing, which included the published of the Horseman Magazine, the Houston Business Journal and several other publications. Mr. Graves served as director and president of the American Rice Growers Co-Operative Association Dayton division and also director and president of Dayton Canal Company. He was an incorporating director and still served as director on the board of Texas Rice Inc. and American Rice Inc.; was long time director of Dayton State Bank and currently advisory director of Prosperity Bank; served on the Dayton Independent School Board of Trustees from 1958 to 1967. A lifetime member of the Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America in Fort Worth, Texas, he was owner of the great longhorn bull, Classic , an internationally known Texas longhorn that at one time had the longest horns of any in the association. He was a long time member of the Beaumont Production Credit Association, along with his business associate Mr. R.D. Dode Partlow, president of the association. Blackie Graves was known to always find the good in everyone and enjoyed being a member of the Pam s Coffee Club. Services for Mr. Graves will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Dayton, Texas with Mr. V. R. Hylton and Rev. Don McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow at Magnolia Park Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. He was preceded in death by son Bill Graves and daughter, Patti Dunaway. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lorene Graves of Dayton; daughters: Myrl Case of San Angelo, Suzanne Lindsey of Liberty, and Diane West of Dayton; sons: Lindon Wilson of Ohio and Charles Wilson of Beaumont; sisters: Lois Moore of Dayton and Adelene Stevens of Dayton. 19 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren. Danny Fry, 61, of Dayton died Monday morning at his home after an extended illness. A native of Alpine, Texas he had been a resident of Dayton for the past 27 years. He graduated from Abilene Christian and was employed by Dow Chemical for 25 years working the last 2 years at Electronic Data Systems. He was formerly on the Dayton Library Board. He is fondly remembered as being totally devoted and dedicated to his family. Services will be Thursday, 2:00 p.m., October 9, 2003 at Liberty Church of Christ with Mr. Ron Johns officiating. Mr. Fry was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, James Harold Fry and Robert Fry. Royce L. Johnson, 82, of Cove, died Friday, October 3, 2003; at the Baytown Rehabilitation Center in Baytown. Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 Pm, Saturday, October 18, 2003, at the Griffith-Icet Family Cemetery in Cove. Services are under the direction of Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Royce was born April 8, 1921 in Cove, to parents; Richard and Iva Icet Johnson, and has resided in the Cove area throughout his life. He was a retired rancher, graduate of the Barbers Hill High School class of 1938, studied engineering at Princeton University, veteran of the US Army with service during World War II, former owner of a machine shop, and enjoyed surveying. He also enjoyed working cattle, anything with mechanics, reading, and his pets. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Henry C. and Armilda Icet, and parents: Richard and Iva Icet Johnson. He is survived by his cousins: Pat Dyer, Nina Presnall, and Joe Icet all of the Cove area, special friend: Diana Blum of Baytown, and numerous other cousins and friends.

Alton Lamar Bo Young, 79 of Hardin, died Thursday, October 2, 2003 at Liberty Dayton Community Hospital. He was a member of the National Champion Hull-Daisetta Bobcat football team that won 43 straight games. He married Betty Jo Lay in 1948. Bo served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a retired supervisor from Exxon. He was a Deacon at the Hardin Baptist Church and enjoyed his cows, catfish pond, riding his 4 wheeler and spending time with his great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents Hamilton & Ruth Cessna Young. Robert Douglas Alford, 56, of Liberty, passed away on Tuesday night in a Port Lavaca hospital. Visitation will be held from 5pm-9pm on Friday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. Funeral Services will be held at 10am on Saturday at Sterling Funeral Home in Dayton. The Rev. Vernon Parsons will officiate. Interment will follow at Linney Cemetery in Dayton. Robert was born on September 12, 1947 in Liberty to parents Douglas Merl Alford and Juana Colleen Padon. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. A lifetime resident of Liberty he worked in the Oil Field as an operations manager and vacuum truck operator. He enjoyed working in the yard, BBQ and cooking. Robert loved kids; he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for his love of telling stories. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sister Linda L. Alford and an infant son. He is survived by his daughters Tammy Smalley of Dayton and Juana Jean Bauerle of Grenada, his son Robert Douglas Alford Jr. of Kansas, brothers Sam Alford of Liberty, Melvin Daniel Alford of Liberty and L.C. Alford of Liberty, sisters Merril Lynn Ramos of Liberty, Florence Gail Foxworth of Livingston and Alma Vilene Villarreal of Liberty. He has 20 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren but was very close to his Baby Girl granddaughter Courtney Smalley of LaPorte. Les was born September 11, 1967 in Hoisington, Kansas and has been a resident of Tarkington Prairie for the past 28 years. Keith Till, 49, of Wallisville, died Wednesday, September 24, 2003, at his residence. He was an owner/operator of a property management business for ten years, graduate of the Anahuac High School class of 1973, Past Master of the Anahuac Masonic Lodge #995 AF & AM, Methodist by faith, guitarist for Al White and the Chaparrals and enjoyed music, playing the guitar, collecting antiques, coins, and Indian artifacts. Mr. Till was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law: Lloyd Tompkins. On September 21, 2003 Heidemarie Heidi Anja Dugat, a devoted wife, ultimate momma, proud Noni, and best friend, died. Born on May 16, 1942, in Marktbreit, Germany, to parents; Robert Walsh and Elfriede Schoernberg Walsh, and has resided in the Barbers Hill area for the past 44 years. Heidi lived every breath of her life to the fullest as a dedicated Christian family woman and devoted wife for 43 years. Proud of her Christian life, she served as a member of the Old River Baptist Church, and the past few years attended Mont Belvieu Assembly of God Church. Heidi was a graduate of high school in Germany, had worked for Mothers Day Out at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Belvieu with 15 years of service, and enjoyed reading, shopping, and her sewing club meetings. In the midst of all that she accomplished in this life, her proudest and most fulfilling accomplishment was the family that she raised and loved everyday. She lived everyday of her life to be surrounded by the ones she loved. Heidi was preceded in death by her father: Robert Walsh, husband: Larry A. Dugat, Sr., son: Jimmy E. Albert Gates, 84, of Dayton, passed away Friday, September 18, 2003 at the Liberty-Dayton Hospital in Liberty. He was a life-long resident of the Dayton area, a retired machinist from Exxon with 35 years experience, attended the South Dayton Baptist Church and worked at Brookshire Brothers for 10 years. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel in Dayton with the Rev. Larry Akins officiating. Burial will follow at the Heirlawn Cemetery in Dayton under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton. He is survived by: Wife: Esther Gates of Dayton; Daughter: Jeanette Shipman and her husband Leonard of Dayton; Son: Leo Gates and his wife Linda of Dayton; Brother: E. B. Gates of Moss Bluff; Half-sister: Epsie Campbell and her husband Huey of Dayton; 4 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; 2 Step-Grandchildren and 6 Step-Great-Grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Pace-Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.

Moorman
Virginia Idell Moorman, 78 of Liberty, died on September 14, 2003 after a lengthy illness. Mrs. Moorman is a sixth generation Texan. She lived all her life in Liberty County. Before her retirement she was the head teller at Liberty County Federal Savings and Loan. She is a member of the First Baptist church in Liberty. She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Lonnie Moorman; her parents V. R. & Elizabeth Fregia; brother, Richard Fregia and her granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth Britain. Mrs. Moorman is survived by a daughter Lonnel M. Britain & husband Jerry of Pasadena; son Willard L. Moorman & wife Jerry Clay; brothers Edmond Lewis Fregia and Jimmy Ross Fregia all of Liberty; grandsons Mark A. Britain of Pasadena, Steven L. Moorman & wife Rhonda of Yoakum, Russell D. Moorman of Liberty; great grandchildren Kade & Kole Moorman of Liberty and Molly & Megan Moorman of Yoakum. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 16, 2003 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Allison Funeral Service in Liberty. A private graveside service will be held.

Green
Hazel Odell Green, 84, of Dayton, died Sunday, September 14, 2003 in Liberty after an extended illness. She was a lifelong resident of Dayton and the daughter of Ben and Lisa Green. She is survived by her brother, Vernon Green and wife Jarmilla of Dayton and two nephews. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2003 at Greenville Cemetery under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. Visitation will be Monday, 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home.

Sheffield
Mrs. Hazel Jeanne Sheffield, 76, of Dayton, died Saturday, September 13, 2003 in Houston after an extended illness. She was a native of Cameron, Texas and had lived in Dayton since 1959. Mrs. Sheffield was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ladies Six Sunday School Class. She was very involved with her son s Boy Scouts and sports activities. She and her late husband, Clyde were owners and operators of Sheffield Production Service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Sheffield, her parents, Edgar and Lorree Lowe and two sons, Russell and Larry Sheffield. Services for Mrs. Sheffield will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 15, 2003 at The First Baptist Church in Dayton with Rev. Randy Piatt officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Humble under the direction of Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. She is survived by her sons: Mark Sheffield of Dayton and Kevin Sheffield and wife Carrie of Dayton; brothers: Rex Lowe and wife Edith of San Angelo; brothers-in-law: Billy Sheffield of Humble and Sherman Dial of Pasadena; sisters-in-law: Jean Sheffield of Tomball, Nina Smith of Humble, and Ola Marie Sheffield of El Campo; grandchildren: Sarah Sheffield, Chrissy Davidson and husband Bobby; Marcie Sheffield, K.W. Sheffield, Brandon Sheffield, Alyssa Sheffield, and Emily Sheffield.

Addington
James Lloyd Addington, 47, of Clute died Friday, September 12, 2003 at home after an extended illness. A native of Dayton, Lloyd had lived in Clute since 1974. He was a 1974 graduate of Dayton High School and had currently worked in the transportation business. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Linney Cemetery. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents: John and Alma Addington. He is survived by his son: Clint and wife Carrie Addington of Freeport; his grandchildren: Tyler Bright, Shelbie and Reilie Addington of Freeport; his brothers: John Curtis Addington, Jr. and wife Sharon of Nacogdoches, George Addington and wife Linda of Dayton, and Gene Addington and wife Fain of Dayton; his sister: Lela Holley and husband Gary of Kenefick; also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Brett Addington, Curtis Addington, Glenn Addington, Chad Addington, Wes Holley, Robert Holley, and Rodney Bode. The family will receive friends 4-8 p.m., Sunday, September 14, 2003 at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home, Dayton. In lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Giles
Mickey Jessie Giles, 73 of Liberty, died Friday, September 5, 2003 at Liberty Dayton Community Hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 8, 2003 at Cooke Cemetery in Liberty. Mrs. Giles was born October 17, 1929 in Cottle County, Texas to Jimmy & Ida O'Neill Morton. She had lived in Liberty since 1970. She was a mother and vice president of Production for Sherie D. Giles Designs. She enjoyed sewing and bowling. She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Giles and her parents Jimmy & Ida O'Neill. She is survived by his daughters Virginia "Ginny" Rank of Liberty, Sherie D. Giles Houston; granddaughter Courtney Rank of Liberty; brothers Billy & J. D. Morton, sister Jackie.
