ONALASKA - Myrtle Myree Thompson, 93, died on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003 in Livingston. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 17, from Lake Livingston Lutheran Church, with Pastor Sharon Kapsch and Ms. Dorothy Ricks officiating. Burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska. She was born Nov. 29, 1909 in Sparks, Okla., the daughter of Bern and Hattie Graham. She married Delwin Thompson on Feb. 1, 1942 in Marshfield, Mo. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Lake Livingston Lutheran Church in Onalaska. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Merl Graham and Floyd Graham and sister, Donnie Crowe. Survivors include her husband, Delwin Thompson of Coldspring; daughter, Norma Cooper of Salina, Kan.; nieces, Billie, Nadine, Helen and Madelyn and nephews, James and Charles. Pallbearers were Nancy Ridley, Brenda Culquitt, Diane Venson, Frances Bates, Paul Johnson and Marie Fields. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lake Livingston Lutheran Church of Onalaska Building Fund. Cochran Funeral Home, Onalaska, was in charge of arrangements.

Nellie A. Dillon
LIVINGSTON - Nellie A. Dillon, 91, of the Big Sandy community, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at her residence. Graveside services were held Friday, Feb. 14, from Big Sandy Cemetery, with the Rev. Danny Moye officiating. Mrs. Dillon was born on May 5, 1911 in Polk County to parents Wade and Sally Mullins Williford. She married Daniel Jackson "Jack" Dillon on Nov. 28, 1940 and was a charter member of Big Sandy Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Jack, of the Big Sandy community; three sons, George Dillon of Dallardsville, Kenneth Dillon and wife Arlene of Livingston and Milton Dillon and wife Dale of Livingston; two daughters, Laura Brockleman of Salem, Ore. and Mary Taylor and husband Jimmy of Livingston; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leo Leslie Banks
LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Leo Leslie Banks, 74, were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, from the Houston National Cemetery Chapel, with the Rev. Harold Isaacs officiating. Interment followed in Houston National Cemetery. Park Place Lodge No. 1172 conducted a Masonic graveside service. Honors were conducted by the VFW District 4 Honor Guard. Mr. Banks died Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the VA Hospital in Houston. He was born May 3, 1928 in Newsom, the son of Alvin Abner Banks and Pinky Lee Groves Banks. Mr. Banks served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. Survivors include his wife, Betty Banks of Livingston; sons, James Banks of Houston and John Banks of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Richard Angel of Tomball; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lori Banks of Houston; six grandchildren and brother, Alvin Dewey Banks. LIVINGSTON - Jean Bramblett Budden, 57, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at her residence in Livingston. Services were held Saturday, Feb. 15, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. Harold Isaacs officiating. Interment followed in North Brown Cemetery in Goldthwaite. She was born Oct. 26, 1945 in Brownwood, the daughter of Claude H. and Velma Townsend Bramblett, both of whom preceded her in death. She taught school in Killeen from 1967 until 1997, then came to Livingston ISD and taught from 2000 to 2002. Survivors include her sister, Betty Jackson of Livingston; nephew, Charles Ivy of College Station; nieces, Marsha Murray of Livingston and Abby Murray of Livingston; great-uncle, L.B. Bramblett of Goldthwaite; aunt and uncle, Jewel and Bill Yeager of Goldthwaite and aunt, Modelle Townsend of Brownwood. LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Nicholas Peter Williams, age 6, were held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, from the First Texas Indian Baptist Church, with Bro. Roy Jernigan and Bro. Rudy Martinez officiating. Burial followed in the Indian Reservation Cemetery. Nicholas died on Saturday, Feb. 15, in Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital in Houston. He was born July 22, 1996 in Livingston, the son of Colbert and Janice Thompson Williams. Nicholas was a student in the Multi Unit Class in Big Sandy School. He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Peter S. Williams; great-grandmother, Dedie Williams; grandfather, Curtis Thompson and uncle, Robby Polite. A.J. Jumonville Jr.
CORRIGAN - Adolph Joseph "A.J." Jumonville Jr., a native of Plaquemine, La., died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at his residence in Corrigan. He was 58. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a graduate of St. John High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph J. Jumonville Sr. and Ida Brock Jumonville. Services were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, from St. John the Evangelistic Church in Plaquemine, La. with the Rev. Cleo Milano presiding. Interment followed in Grace Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Betty Jumonville; daughter, Callie Marie Allen and husband Jason Allen; two sons, Robert Joseph Jumonville and wife Cassie and Jeffrey Paul Jumonville Sr. and wife Rhonda; brother, Alexander Joseph Jumonville and wife Sue and seven grandchildren. Gwyneth Harrison
LIVINGSTON - Gwyneth Irene Armstrong Harrison, 84, of Livingston died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, in Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin. She was born Sept. 21, 1918 in Kokoma, Ind., the daughter of William and Martha Miller Armstrong. She moved to Harlingen, Texas as a child and attended local schools. She married James Edward Harrison on May 18, 1940 and moved to Livingston, While Ed served on the Pacific front during World War II, she lived in Harlingen. After he was discharged from the Army they returned to Livingston, where they opened Harrison's Body Shop in 1945. She served as bookkeeper there until 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Livingston since 1941, where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years. She served as president of the Livingston PTA and president of the Livingston Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was a charter member and president of the Livingston Pilot Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Harrison; father, William E. Armstrong; mother, Martha Miller Armstrong; son, Jamie Harrison; daughter, Ellen Harrison Jones; and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by son-in-law, Guinn Jones of Livingston; daughter-in-law, Monique Harrison of Livingston; grandsons, Preston and wife Gina of Livingston and Tres Harrison and wife Lauren of Livingston; granddaughters, Kim Stanley and husband Raymond of Kingwood, Kaycee Jones of Livingston, Andrianne Hinton of Livingston and Beth Harrison of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Jones of Livingston, Hayden and Kathryn Griffin of Livingston, Caroline Harrison of Livingston and Aaron Stanley of Kingwood; sister, Jean Brown of Harlingen; brother, Richard Armstrong and wife Lois of Pearland; special friends, Kathy Odom, Gary Don Murphy, Cindy Jackson, Rosemary Beede and Katrina Ryans and numerous nieces and nephews. Billy Jack Harvey
CORRIGAN - Funeral services for Billy Jack "B.J." Harvey, 65, of McAllen were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, from the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel, with Capt. Tim Gilliam officiating. Interment followed in Cochran Cemetery in Huntington. Mr. Harvey was born June 5, 1937 in Etoile and died Saturday, Feb. 15, in his residence in McAllen. He retired in 2002 after years of faithful service from the Salvation Army. He became a member (soldier) of the Salvation Army after successfully completing membership classes and professing his faith to the Lord. After his retirement he still served as a volunteer in the Salvation Army. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Russell and Kathy Harvey of Corrigan and Craig and Tami Harvey of Lakeland, Fla.; grandchildren, Corey, Andrew, Sterling and Hunter; mother, Bernice Mott of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Ethel Harvey of Houston; nephews and spouses, Wayne and Madaline Harvey and Randy and Debbie Harvey of Houston; niece, Rhonda Harvey of Houston; special friends, Tim and Cheryl Gilliam of McAllen and numerous other family members and friends.

Interment followed in Forest Hill Cemetery. He was born Dec. 18, 1971 in Pasadena, the son of John and Sharon Mainor Peavey, and died Saturday, Feb. 15, at his residence in Livingston. She was born Nov. 15, 1975 in Houston, the daughter of Jack and Deborah Willmon Pardee. LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Steven Frank Hickman, 53, of Pasadena were held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, from Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, with the Rev. Glen Britton officiating. Mr. Hickman died Monday, Feb. 17, in Bayshore Medical Center in Pasadena. He was born Oct. 22, 1949 in Pasadena, the son of Frank and Jeanne Lambert Hickman. He married Lois Hickman on Feb. 21, 1985 in Houston. Survivors include his wife, Lois "Cissy" Hickman of Pasadena; mother, Jeanne Lambert Hartsell of Pasadena; son, Steven Hickman; stepdaughter, Candice Conners of Magnolia; brothers, Tommy Hartsell of Richards, David Hickman of Pasadena and Mark Hartsell of Coldspring and sister, Elizabeth Calhoun of Spring. B.E. "Gene" Standley
LIVINGSTON - B.E. "Gene" Standley, 72, of Houston died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, in a Houston hospital. Graveside services were held Thursday, Feb. 20, at Bold Springs Cemetery, with the Rev. Larry Byrd officiating. Mr. Standley, a retired heating and refrigeration pipe fitter, was born on July 25, 1930 in the Bold Springs community of Polk County to parents Bethel and Lee Marsh Standley. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and had been a resident of Houston since 1942. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, Gerald Standley and Nell Whitehead. Survivors include a son, Ralph Standley of Houston; brother, Richard Standley of Ft. Worth and two sisters, Ethelene Zellars of Houston and Annie Hickman of Pearland. Laurine Handley Battise
LIVINGSTON - Laurine Handley Battise, 75, of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation died on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in a Lufkin hospital. Services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at the Indian Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Bill Heck officiating. Interment followed in the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation Cemetery. Miss Battise was born on Oct. 27, 1927 on the reservation to parents Jefferson Harrison and Lizzie Sylestine Battise. She was a graduate of Big Sandy High School and the former Oklahoma Presbyterian College, now known as Southeastern Oklahoma Teachers College in Durant, Okla. She lived in Houston for many years and retired after more than 30 years of service with the Texas Institute for Rehabilitation and Research as a secretary. She returned to Polk County in 1991 from Houston. She was an active member of the Indian Presbyterian Church, where among other things she served as a former elder and deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir member, Bible school teacher, worship coordinator and also assisted with youth groups. She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Bobby, Ashley, Hollis, Albert, Calvin, Emmett, who was the former chief of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation, and Gemar Battise. Survivors include three sisters-in-law, Shila Battise of Livingston, and Doris Battise and Weaver Battise, both of the Alabama-Coushatta Indian Reservation and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Pallbearers were Roy Williams, Kenneth Williams, Sherman Williams, Lance Battise, Wayne Battise and Jeffrey Rhoads. Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Armenia Emma Rasberry
LIVINGSTON - Funeral services for Armenia Emma Rasberry, 90, were held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Rod Peacock and the Rev. James Still officiating. Burial followed in Forest Hill Cemetery. Committal services were under the auspice of Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 1139. Mrs. Rasberry died Thursday, Feb. 6, in Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin. She was born Nov. 1, 1912 in New Willard, the daughter of Reason Luzzenbury Swilley and Armenia Selena Stokes Swilley. Mrs. Rasberry was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Livingston Chapter No. 1139 Order of Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raoul and her parents. Survivors include a host of nieces, nephews and close friends. Pallbearers were Wayne Peters, Andy Peters, Patrick Swilley, Tony Swilley, Montana Nelson, Paul Campbell and Tommy Warren.

Ralph Clay Cain
LIVINGSTON - Ralph Clay Cain, 46, of Livingston died on Jan. 25, 2003 in Livingston. Funeral services were held Jan. 29 in Pasadena, with the Rev. Jack McDonald officiating. Interment followed in Grandview Cemetery in Pasadena. Grandview Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Cain was born Dec. 16, 1956 in Fort Riley, Kan., the son of Ralph C. and Claudine Cain. He was a deputy constable for Precinct 1 in Polk County. He married on Jan. 26, 1983 in South Houston. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Regina Gail Cain and his children, James Ralph, Kelly Michelle, Jeanie Marie and Brittany Gail Cain, along with his mother and stepfather, Claudine and James Rogers. He is also survived by his younger siblings, Dennis W. Cain and wife Linda and Pamela M. Holliday and husband John; seven nieces, one nephew; three great-nieces and three great-nephews. Pallbearers were Lester Tatum, Doug Martin, Brian Martin, John Pierce, Raymond Hawkins and Wesley Hawkins.

Phyllis Elaine Cook Connally
ONALASKA - Memorial services for Phyllis Elaine Cook Connally, 85, were held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, from the First United Methodist Church in Onalaska. She died Feb. 5 in Mason. Mrs. Connally retired from Hughes Tool Company after 30 years of service. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to Lake Livingston. Mrs. Connally was an active member of the Desk and Derrick Club, Houston; UMW and the choir of First United Methodist Church in Onalaska; Lake Livingston Ladies Golf Association and several bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. "Rip" Connally. She is survived by three siblings, brothers Phillip Stanley Wickstrom of California and Carl Wickstrom of Nevada and sister LaVon Angell of California; six children, Phillip Cook of Mason, Carolyn Bradley of Chandler, Terry Cook of California, Jim Connally of Tyler, Jann Green of Houston and Cindy Grimes of Tyler; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Because of her love of music and her church, the family requests that memorials be made to the choir of First United Methodist Church Onalaska, P.O. Box 596, Onalaska, Texas 77360.

Alice Lee Wood
LIVINGSTON - Alice Lee Wood, 94, of Livingston died on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, in a local nursing home. No services are announced. Mrs. Wood was born on Jan. 23, 1909 in Union County, Ark. to parents Jesse H. and Grace Elizabeth Johnson Spooner. She married Fred Wood on Jan. 3, 1928 and he preceded her in death in 1984. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wood. Mrs. Wood had been a Livingston resident since 1944 and was a member of Central Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, F. Doyle Wood of Houston; sister, Elva Turley of California; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ONALASKA - Funeral services for Judy Ann Christian Johnson, 57, were held Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, with the Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. Interment followed in Magnolia Cemetery, Onalaska. Mrs. Johnson died Friday, Feb. 7, in Memorial Health System of East Texas in Lufkin. She was born Aug. 11, 1945 in Beaumont, the daughter of Robert William Christian and Julia Catherine Rector Christian, both of whom preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters, Cindy Smith of Houston and Charliss Johnson Nesch of Houston; son, Jef Johnson of Houston and grandchildren, Chris Smith, Casey Smith, Dean Edward Johnson and Amauri Elledge. LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Michael James Bruce, age 1 day, and Makenzie Michael Bruce, age 5 days, were held Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, from Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, with Bro. Don Wilkey officiating. Michael died on Wednesday, Jan. 29, and Makenzie died on Sunday, Feb. 2. They were born in Ankara, Turkey, the son and daughter of Russell and Jan Chapman Bruce. Survivors include their parents, Russell and Jan Bruce of Ankara, Turkey; brother, Rustin Lee Bruce of Ankara, Turkey; sisters, Asheley Jan. LIVINGSTON - Graveside services for Rowena Francis Hinson, 91, were held Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, from Old Peebles Cemetery in Livingston, with the Rev. Rod Peacock officiating. Miss Hinson died Saturday, Feb. 8, in Livingston Convalescent Center. She was born March 7, 1911 in Livingston, the daughter of Henry and Frances Rowena Hinson, both of whom preceded her in death. Miss Hinson was a member of the Music Club, DAR, DRT, the Polk County Historical Society and the SPCA. She is survived by a host of cousins and many friends. ONALASKA - Funeral services for Ron Harp, 48, were held Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, with the Rev. Ernie Parker, the Rev. David Thornton and the Rev. Jim Sherril officiating. Interment followed in Carlisle Cemetery. Mr. Harp died Friday, Feb. 7, at his residence in Trinity. He was born Oct. 15, 1954 in Baytown, the son of Willie M. and Leaddies B. Trevathan Harp. Mr. Harp was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as assistant chief of the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department No. 356. Survivors include his wife, Linda Harp of Trinity; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christrina Harp of Porter; daughter, Rhonda Harp Buchannan of Porter; parents, Willie and Leaddies "Lea" Harp of Trinity; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Ernie Parker of New Caney and Judy and James Sumner of Midway; grandchildren, Kaleith Buchannan, Kassidy Buchannan and Taylor Harp and brother-in-law, Johnny Ray Kelly of Trinity. Bettye Gordon Dunn
LIVINGSTON - A celebration of life for Bettye Gordon Dunn, 67, of Livingston were held Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, from the First United Methodist Church on U.S. 190 West, with the Rev. Amos L. Horton of Reed Chapel Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in Greenfield Cemetery, with the Rev. James Dunn officiating. Mrs. Dunn died Saturday, Feb. 8. She was born Oct. 11, 1935 in Livingston to Archie and Carrie Caleb. She attended Dunbar High School, after which she married Andrew James Dunn on June 15, 1953. To this union 12 children were born. One child, Jacqueline Ladelle Dunn, preceded her in death. Mrs. Dunn was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church all of her life, where she played an important and active role and was involved in many auxiliaries throughout the Methodist Church and community. She was known as someone who lived her life for love of God, family and friends, never asking for nor wanting anything in return. Harrell Jr. of Livingston, Sylvia Johnson and Jessica Guilbeau and husband Ricky Guilbeau of Houston; eight sons, Adrian Dunn and wife Georgia Dunn, Jeffrey Dunn, Martin Dunn and wife Linda Dunn, James Edgar Dunn of Lufkin, Andrew James Dunn Jr. and wife Carol Dunn, Gordon Dunn and Phillip Dunn of Houston and Samuel Dunn and wife Elizabeth Dunn of Temecula, Calif.; one sister, Bennie Ruth Douglas of Livingston; brother, Alfred Gordon of Houston; aunt and uncle, Herman and Mary Selma Caleb of Houston; god sister, Hazel Woodberry; sister-in-law, Eveline Jordan of Dallas; brother-in-law, L.T. Dunn of Los Angeles, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special friends, Robbie Ryans, Minnie Thomas, Lorrine Jackson, Lorrine Horn, LaRue Marshall, Lillie Mae Colquitt, Frankie White, Lois Starghill, Gracie Darden, Mary Bell Thompson, Rosemary Dewalt, Jessie Stancil and Raytoomey Shaw, all of Livingston and her church family. CORRIGAN - Funeral services for Joshua Paul Tatum, 25, of Lubbock were held Thursday, Feb. 13, from the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Buster Griggs officiating. Interment followed in Union Springs Cemetery. Mr. Tatum was born Dec. 29, 1977 in Lufkin and died Monday, Feb. 10, in Lubbock. He was a homebuilder in the construction business. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Tommy Tatum and grandmother, Jean Garcia. Survivors include his wife, Teri Tatum of Lubbock; father and stepmother, John Paul and Tammy Tatum of Pineland; mother, Patricia Almodovar of Houston; brothers and sister-in-law, Chris and Julie Bentley of Lufkin and Anthony Williams of Houston; sister, Keri Kruger of Houston; grandmothers, Caroline Ray of Center and Margaret Tatum of Hemphill; stepchildren, Trey and Carrie of Lubbock and numerous other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Ben Tatum, Chad Gay, David Lackey, Damon Wood, B.J. Brewer and Chris Watts.
