Harold Jackson “Jack” Watkins, 79, died Friday, May 9, 2003, at his home. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Mr. Watkins was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Fort Worth to A.J. and Thelma Watkins and spent most of his life in Tarrant County. He retired after 44 years’ service with the Union Pacific Railroad. He was a Navy veteran and survivor of World War II, seeing duty in the Caribbean, Atlantic and South Pacific. He was formerly a member of Elks Lodge 399 of Texarkana; past president MCIA, Memphis, Tennessee; and LOMA, Chicago. He was a member of Moose Lodge 1100; VFW Lodge 2137, Azle; American Legion 549, Burleson; and the Fort Worth Anglers Club. Mr. Watkins graduated from the Texas A&M College system in 1952. In addition to his parents, Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by two sons, Harold Jackson “Jackie” Watkins, Jr. and Rodger Patrick “Pat” Watkins. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Corinne I. “Connie” Watkins; son, David M. Watkins; daughter, Nancy E. Woody; grandchildren, Candy McBride, Melissa Bentley, Stephanie Kaiser, Mike Watkins and John Watkins; great-grandchildren, Casey, Chantyl and Caitlin McBride, Sydney, Bailey and Tanner Tittle and Jackson Kaiser; brother, C.R. Watkins; and sisters, Gwendolyn Turner and Sandra Roberts.

James G. Edmonds, 77, a retired electrician from General Dynamics, died Thursday, May 8, 2003. Burial was in Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon, Illinois. Biggers Funeral Home made the arrangements. Mr. Edmonds was born June 25, 1925, in Tescola, Illinois. He was a resident of Fort Worth for over 55 years and retired from General Dynamics in 1987. Survivors include his son, James G. Edmonds, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, of Azle; granddaughter, Jennifer Gunter and her husband, Jason, of Azle; and great-grandson, Logan Gunter. William Ray Massey, 36, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Euless.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Azle. Arrangements were made by White’s Azle Funeral Home. Mr. Massey was born June 16, 1966, in Grand Prairie. He co-owned Massey Fence Construction Co. in Azle. He was preceded in death by his father, William Wayne Massey, in 1976 and a sister, Deborah Sue Gifford, in 1983. Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Barker and husband, Billy of Grand Prairie; brother, Darrell Massey of Azle; sisters, Patricia Hamlin of Azle and Tina Roberson of Grand Prairie; stepbrother, Lon Howard Barker and wife, Kim of Arlington; grandparents, Mary Elwood of Boron, California, and Charlene Dubious of Arlington; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Shauna Hampsten, 49, died Thursday, May 8, 2003, in Fort Worth. Services were held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Greenwood Chapel. Private burial was in Memory Garden’s Cemetery under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home. Mrs. Hampsten was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Azle. She was preceded in death by her father, K.L. Marchbanks. Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Kenny Hampsten; daughter, Laura Hampsten; son, Zachary Hampsten; grandson, Jake Andrew; aunt, Lois Stailey, all of Fort Worth; numerous other family members; and many friends.

Don Flowers

Don Flowers, 78, a loving grandfather, father and brother, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loved ones. Services were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Burial was in Springtown Cemetery under the direction of Greenwood Funeral Home. Mr. Flowers was born Sept. 13, 1924, in Idabelle, Oklahoma. He belonged to the White Settlement Masonic Lodge #1372 for over 50 years and was known as “Dad” to many Demolay members. He was also a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #1053 for 45 years. Mr. Flowers was an accomplished wood carver and artist and loved giving miniature landscapes to everyone, especially the staff at Peach Tree Care Center. He was a master carpenter and landscaper, owning his own lawn care business for over 35 years after being employed with Swift’s Meat Packaging for 26 years until its final closing. His gift to life was his joy to spread humor, his honesty, integrity and his will to go beyond what was expected of him to help someone in need. He will be greatly missed for his kindness and caring ways by all those who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Maxine, in February 2001. Survivors include his daughter, LaDonna Williams and husband, Clint, of Springtown; son, Richard Flowers and wife, Loretta, of Tyler; brother, Buster Flowers and wife, Betty, of Fort Worth; sister, Francis Ingram of Casper, Wyoming; grandsons, Duane Flowers and wife, Stacy, of Fort Worth and T.J. Doty of Springtown; granddaughter, Lacy Doty of Springtown; great-granddaughters, Ashley Flowers and Paige Doty of Fort Worth; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Toomey was born in Aurora, Illinois. He married Marjorie Ann Boisdorf on Dec. 20, 1946. John was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Ann Toomey; sons, Daniel Toomey Sr. and wife, Susan, of Springtown, Paul Toomey and wife, Coletta, of Sparks, Nevada; daughter, Margo Lipinski and husband, Richard, of Antioch, Illinois; brother, Paul Toomey of Houston; and grandchildren, Dan Toomey, Jr., Michael Toomey, Melanie Whitehead, Scott Toomey and Garrett Toomey.

Raymond R. Shelton, 79, a retired carpenter, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at a Fort Worth hospital. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lone Camp Community Center in Lone Camp. Burial was in Santo North Cemetery. Mr. Shelton was born March 3, 1924, in Lone Camp, the son of Otis and Hattie Brown Shelton. He was a merchant marine veteran of World War II and a working man’s friend. Survivors include his sons, Gary Shelton of Haltom City, Tommy and Mickey Shelton of Azle; Lynn Shelton of Fort Worth; brothers, Eugene and James Shelton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Bette Ammann.

Anthony Abdo “Tony” Ellis died May 3, 2003 at his home in Azle.
Private services will be held in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Ellis was born June 21, 1925 in Utica, New York to Mary and Abdo Ellis. He grew up there and graduated from Utica Catholic Academy. After serving in the Army during World War II, he graduated from Syracuse University. He was employed by the Air Force at Rome AFB in New York and then was transferred to McClellan AFB in Sacramento, California, where he retired in 1981. He was a member of Ridglea Presbyterian Church, NARFE and a long-time member of BPO Elks. He especially enjoyed card games, chess and bowling. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his half-brother, Louis Ellis.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Judy Lynn; stepdaughter, Cathy Steele and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Joshua of L’viv, Ukraine, Jennifer, Jessica, Jonathan, Jeremy and Josiah of Azle; brother, George Ellis and wife, Katherine of Utica; sister, Helen Salerno and husband, John of Utica; and mother-in-law, Ann Workman.

Carol Bock Young, 50, died Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Fort Worth after a long illness.
Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Winscott Road Funeral Chapel in Benbrook.
Mrs. Young was born Aug. 13, 1952, in Fort Worth. She was a 1970 graduate of Western Hills High School. She attended St. Joseph School of Vocational Nursing in Fort Worth and received her license in 1972. For the last 30 years, Carol held a variety of nursing positions in Texas, California and Virginia. She was a loving, nurturing caregiver and spent the last 10 years of her career working with special needs children and adults. She was known for her wonderful sense of humor and love of music. A member of a close-knit and loving family, Carol always got great joy from family gatherings. Carol was known by many and loved by all. Her parents, Ed and Alice Bock of Mansfield, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughters, Leigh Ann Young of Azle (and her foster parents, Tracy and Lee) and Caryn Young of Fort Worth; son, Ryan Young of Fort Worth; brother, Joe Bock of Big Sandy; sisters, Arlene Oge of Fort Worth, Mary Higgins of Mansfield and Cindy Bock of Mansfield; grandson, James Ostin (and his adoptive parents, Vernon and Rosemary); and former husband, David Young of Fort Worth. David P. Glazer, 76, died Friday, May 2, 2003 in Springtown.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, in the Chapel at White’s Funeral Home. Burial was in Chevna Mishna Cemetery. Mr. Glazer was born in Revere, Massachusetts to William and Gertrude Goldstein Glazer on March 11, 1927. He had been a resident of Springtown for four years. He was formerly of Everett, Massachusetts. He was employed as a medical EEG technician. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annette Glazer in 1997.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Jeannetta Glazer; daughter, Cindy Joy Glazer of Springtown; stepson, James S. Collins, Jr. of Springtown; and stepdaughter, Judy Lane Snider of Watauga.

Arrangements were made by White’s Funeral Home Mrs. Kuehner was a longtime resident of North Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; parents, “Mer” and “Dukes” Davis; brothers, Higene and Johnny; and daughter, Tina. Survivors include her daughters, Nancy Turnage and Jackie Kuehner; grandchildren, Dillan, Jessica, and Chaz; granddog, Maxx; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Patricia “Pat” Wall, 63, a homemaker, died Friday, May 2, 2003, at a hospital. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Alvarado Full Gospel Church. Burial was in Skyvue Memorial Gardens under the direction of Davis Funeral Home. Mrs. Wall was born Dec. 23, 1940, in Noblesville, Indiana. She was an inspiration and pillar of strength to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, Billy R. Mrs. Davenport retired from General Dynamics in 1979. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Myrtle was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, David Davenport, in 1999. Survivors include her son, Benny Davenport of Boyd; daughters, Mae Dean Reed and husband, Tommy, of Laguna Park and Lalene Cleary and husband, Benloyd, of Boyd; granddaughters, Pam Cleary, Karen Clark and Sherry Schmedt; four sisters; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ann Eubanks Jackson, 83, of Kansas, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003. She was formerly of Fort Worth and Azle. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Her daughter-in-law, Chaplain Mary Jackson, will officiate. Mrs. Jackson was born in Burleson on June 3, 1919, the daughter of J.E. and Emmaline Melinda Pinyon Eubanks. She married W.O. Jackson, who preceded her in death on Dec. 19, 1995. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Estep and husband, Richard, of Hurst, Linda Raborn and husband, Westley, of Forney; son, Wayne O. Jackson and wife, Mary, of Lansing, Kansas; grandchildren, Lisa Stillman of New York, Emily Edgar of Mesquite, Terry Cockerham, Hope Jackson and Brian Jackson, both of Kansas City, Missouri; and great-grandchildren, Hunter Stillman, Austin Edgar, Clayton Edgar and Megan Edgar.

Marjorie Elizabeth Rose Nilsson, 93, of San Angelo, died April 26, 2003 at her home after an extended illness. Services were held at 3:30 p.m., April 28, at First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Fairmount Cemetery. Mrs. Nilsson was born May 6, 1909 in Wapokenata, Ohio as one of seven children of Joseph E. Rose and Leanora Zink Rose. She spent her childhood in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She married Lawson E. (Swede) Nilsson on June 6, 1927. They were together for 64 years. The couple lived in Muskogee, Hobbs, New Mexico and Odessa prior to moving to San Angelo in 1950 where Mr. Nilsson was in the oil business. She often described herself as “just a homemaker,” but perfected the art of making people welcome in her home, at her table and in her heart. She was Mamaw to her grandchildren and eventually to dozens of friends of all ages who sought out her delightfully innocent humor, her simple but powerful wisdom, and her intense interest in those she loved. She was a Sunday school teacher and very active member of First Presbyterian Church. For 46 years she prepared the bread and juice used as Sacraments of the Lord’s Supper for every Communion served. The church had a silver chalice handcrafted for her which she wore with pride. She was active in her children’s and grandchildren’s schools. In later years she was a volunteer at San Angelo State School and at West Texas Rehabilitation Center. Survivors include her children, Pat Attebery and Joe Hurd of San Angelo, Ned Nilsson and wife, Trudy, of Canyon Lake and Bill Nilsson and wife, Virginia, of San Antonio; 10 grandchildren, Marjorie Marjie Shirey of San Angelo, Mark Attebery and wife, Susan, of Azle, Paul and Todd Nilsson of Canyon Lake, Noel Nilsson, Kyla Benavides and husband, Roger, Krista Westby and husband, Jim, Keith Nilsson, Karma Nilsson and Chris Steves, all of San Antonio and Freddy Hurd and wife, Monika, of Germany; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Dorothy Wilkinson of San Antonio and Carl Rose and wife, Dolly, of Ashland, Wisconsin. Burial was in Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park under the direction of Mount Olivet Funeral Home. Mr. Crable was born on Feb. 15, 1920, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and was retired from General Dynamics. Survivors include his daughters, Sue Withers and husband, Larry, of Bedford and Sarah Ann Cox of Mansfield; son, Virgil “Butch” Crable of Springtown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Billy E. Nickell, 57, a police officer, died Saturday, April 26, 2003, at a Fort Worth hospital. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Moore Memorial Gardens, Arlington. Mr. Nickell was born Nov. 23, 1945, in Cleburne. He was a longtime Fort Worth resident. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a peace officer for the Westover Hills Police Department and had worked for various police departments in the Metroplex for the last 25 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Knox Nickell. Survivors include his mother, Juanita Nickell of Fort Worth; brother, Michael Nickell of Azle; sister, Marianne Nickell of Fort Worth; and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
