James Digby, 44, of Rockland, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at the Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Rockland Cemetery.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the cemetery.
James was born April 2, 1959 to Doyle and Sharon Nelson Digby in Seminole. He was a longtime resident of Tyler County and was a truck driver.
He is survived by his mother, Sharon Digby of Rockland; brothers, Bobby Digby of Rockland, Bruce Digby of Cuero and Billy Ray Digby of Tennessee Colony; and sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Michael Howard of Rockland.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.

Sheldon Sheveland, 60, of Woodville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003 at his residence.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, Dec. 11 at 2 p.m. in the Woodville United Methodist Church. Officiating was Reverend Ray Reed.
Sheldon was born July 13, 1943 in Waupaca, Wisconsin. He was a former resident of Round Rock and had lived in Woodville for the past four years. He was a retired engineer from McNeill Consumer Johnson & Johnson Company in Round Rock. He was a member of the Woodville United Methodist Church and a U. S. Air Force veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Sheveland of Woodville; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Catherine Sheveland of Houston; daughter, Debbie Grivas of Yuma, AZ; and six grandchildren, Nick Sheveland, Michael Sheveland, Stephen Sheveland, Chris Grivas, Tabiatha Grivas and Summer Grivas.

Charles E. Turner, 103, of Hillister, passed away Sunday, Dec. 7, 2003 at the Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
A Rosary was held Wednesday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Officiating was Father Egidio Vecchio. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 11 at 10 a.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Magnolia Cemetery. Officiating was Brother Ken Derouen and Brother Delbert Turner. Serving as pallbearers were Steven Kirkpatrick, Travis Mooris, Justin Kirkpatrick, Josh Kirkpatrick, Jared Kirkpatrick and Chuck Porter.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Dec. 10 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Charles was born Nov. 25, 1900 to Shedrick and Mary Whitcomb Turner in Humboldt, NE. He was a former resident of Belleville, KS and had lived in Hillister for the past six years. He was a retired security officer from the Nebraska State Prison.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Agnes Turner on Feb. 8, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Ramona Kirkpatrick of Warren; grandchildren, Brad and Pamela Kirkpatrick, Greg and Thelma Kirkpatrick and Brenda and Kyle Russell of Warren; twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Warren-- Funeral service for Danielle Michelle Sheffield, 19, was held Dec. 13, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Warren with Brother Mark Smith, Brother Ken Cauthen and Brother Joe Saffle officiating, under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville.
Burial followed at Village Mills Cemetery in Village Mills.
Danielle passed away Dec. 10, at her home in Warren.
Born July 10, 1984 in Liberty, she lived in Warren most of her life. She was a graduate of Warren High School and the 2002 Warren Homecoming Queen. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Warren.
She is survived by her loving family, parents, Louis and Betty Sheffield; sisters, Misty Bridges of Houston and Amanda Sheffield of Warren; brother, Adam Sheffield of Warren; nephew, Seth Bridges of Houston; grandparents, Gurvis Sthram of Batson, Patsy Nugent of Liberty, Bernice and Eddie Pickett of Warren; and a host of other family members and friends.
Serving as pallbearers were Billy Fondren, R. L. Mitchell, Oscar Goins, David Standley, Ken Cauthen and John Sutton.

Spurger-- Funeral services for Glynell Redmon, 66, were held Dec. 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville, with Brother Dennis Whitmire officiating. Burial followed at Turner Branch Cemetery in Spurger.
She passed away Dec. 9, at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
She was born Jan. 5, 1937 to Laurie Preston Hicks and Annie Lee Strange in Spurger where she lived all her life. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sue Redmon.
Survivors include her husband of 48 years Carl Redmon Sr. of Spurger; son, Carl Redmon Jr. and wife Linda of Silsbee; daughters, Cindy Redmon of Spurger, Juanell Caillier and husband Glenn of Spurger; sisters, Margie Mott of Spurger, Janice Daniels of Woodville and Linda Lee Hollis of Marshall; grandchildren, Joshua Redmon, Stephanie Brown, Robby Redmon, Lucinda Redmon, Lauranda Cailler and Zachary Caillier.
Pallbearers were Willie D. Mock, Marvin Mott, James Gilchrist, Rusty Mott, Charles Hollis, Leonard Hollis and Larry D. Hollis.

Woodville-- Jewel Powell Polk, 87, of Woodville, former longtime Houston resident passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at Holiday Pines Manor in Woodville.
Graveside service are Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. in the Resthaven-Earthman's Funeral Home Directors Cemetery at 13102 N. Freeway in Houston under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Stringer & Griffin Funeal Home in Woodville.
Jewel was born Feb. 5, 1916 to Zechariah Benjamin and Nettie Pruitt Powell in Groveton. She was retired as the former personal secretary to the president of Conoco Oil Company.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Polk. She is survived by several nieces, including Carol Moffett of Kingwood; and nephews.
Memorials may be made to charity of choice.

Kathryn Morgan Hanks, 63, of Colmesneil, passed away Friday, December 5, 2003 at her residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Spurger with burial in Ebenezer Cemetery near Colmesneil. Officiating was Reverend Paul Boughan and Reverend Charles Hanks. Serving as pallbearers were Brian Trunnell, Glenn Morgan, Joe Dacus, Keith Karr, Monroe Morgan, Danny Daniel and Bruce Gravis. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Hanks and Randy Hanks.
Visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 7 from 6 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kathryn was born Dec. 25, 1939 to Alfred and Julia Pavlic Morgan in Jasper. She was a former resident of Orange and a longtime resident of Colmesneil. She had been in real estate sales with Century 21 and Grace Ingle. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spurger.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Hanks of Colmesneil; parents, Alfred and Julia Morgan of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Charles and Brenda Hanks of Alamogordo, NM; daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Brian Trunnell of Copperas Cove and Cindy and Jeremy Wentreek of Temple; brother, Willie Morgan of Lumberton; and six grandchildren.

Hazel Gardner, 89, of Warren, passed away on Friday, Dec. 5, 2003.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. in the Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with burial in Lindsey Cemetery near Warren. Officiating was Brother John Spanhanks. The Eastern Star services were conducted by the Spurger Chapter #315 Order of Eastern Star. Serving as pallbearers were Floyd Inman, Wade Skinner, Harold Davis, Davis Hatton, Harold Lloyd Gardner and Ivison Read.
Visitation was held on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 5:30 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hazel was born Dec. 16, 1913 to Louis and Viola Lindsey Gardner in Warren. She was a lifelong resident of Tyler County and was a retired dispatcher from the Tyler County Sheriff's Department. She was a member of the Spurger Chapter #315 Order of Eastern Star.
She is survived by her nephew, Winston Overstreet of Livingston; and nieces, Louise Sellars of Austin, Maurine Nichols of Woodville, LaRe Calame of Ft. Worth, Merle Jean Thornton of Eagle Lake and Ima Ruth Wright of Katy.

Clifton Todd Elliston, a boilermaker for the Petrochemical Industry for the past twenty years passed away on Dec. 4, 2003. He was a native Texan who loved to fish and hunt in the Piney Woods and had lived in Colmesneil since 1975.
Survivors include his parents, James R. and Mary C. Ingram of Colmesneil; brother Robby Ingram and wife Alison of Pasadena; sister, Carla Lynn Stanley and husband Glenn of Beaumont; fiance Latricia "Lynn" McVey and her son, "Billy Jack" McVey of Dickenson; nephew Jacob Ison and niece Michelle Ingram. He will be missed.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, 2003 at Vann Cemetery near Jasper. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Jasper.

Richard Ray "Rick" Boyd, Sr. 64, of Sour Lake, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at Claybar Kelley-Watkins Funeral Home with burial following at Pine Ridge Cemetery in Sour Lake. Reverend Ed Hillyer from Forest Park United Methodist Church officiated.
A native and lifelong resident of Sour Lake, he was a retired tool pusher with Shivers Well Service. Rick was a member of the "Class of 57" Sour Lake High School; former Mayor and City Councilman of Sour Lake and had worked at Sour Lake Bank, Parkdale Bank, and Shivers Well Service. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Sour Lake.
His parents William "Bill" Boyd and Florence "Bill" Boyd, brothers, William Charles Boyd and Valry Boyd, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Boyd; sons, Richard Ray Boyd, Jr, of Sour Lake, Ernest Randall Boyd and wife Mary Ann of Town Bluff; stepdaughter, Paula Doucet of Bryan; stepson, Jerry Mauboules of Houston; sisters, Teddy Boyd St. Ama of Kemah, and Lucille Lebow Bruce of DeVille, LA; grandchildren, Tabitha, RaDonna, Adam, Alan, Arlis and Alec; great grandchildren, Ayla Marie and Jared Allen.
His first wife, Edna James of Orange, also survives him.

Lester was born July 28, 1948 to Julius Lester, Sr. and Nobe Okun Best in Beaumont. He was a former longtime resident of Pt. Arthur and a 1967 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School. He had lived in Woodville for the past ten years. He was a retired engineer with the Pt. Arthur Fire Department.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Jack A. and Gloria Best of Nederland; and nieces, Mandy Moore, Jennifer Manning and Kerri Landry.

Rev. Jesse N. Hanks, 87, of Woodville, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at the Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Woodville, with burial at Kirby Cemetery in Silsbee. Visitation was held on Monday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, under the direction of Coleman's Tyler County Funeral Home in Woodville.
A native of Silsbee, Rev. Hanks lived in Woodville a number of years. Rev. Hank was a Minister of the Gospel for 45 years.

Born Oct. 14, 1955 in New Orleans, LA. to George and Violet Wartman Auvil, she lived in Houston before moving to Woodville several years ago. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her loving husband, Chester Gilbert White, Sr. of Woodville; daughters, Minnie Brown of Houston and Charity Lynn Frey of Woodville; son, Chester White, Jr. of Houston; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild; sister-in-law and husband Addie and Cloyd Harrison.

Emerson Richey, Sr., 89, of Woodville passed away Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003 at the Dogwood Trails Manor Nursing Home in Woodville.
Born Aug. 11, 1914 in Reklaw, to John and Nora Craig Richey, he lived in Groves before moving to Woodville. He was retired from Chevron in Port Arthur after 34 years of service. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, African and European Campaigns. He was a member of the Pine Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Richey is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Whitton Richey of Woodville; son, Tad Richey currently residing in Saudia Arabia and Thailand; daughter, Melissa Breaux of Groves; step-son, Randy Wells of New Braunfels; step daughter, Stephanie Stanley of San Augustine; granddaughter, Suzanne Ellis of Katy; grandsons Jason Villareal of Kerrville and Shaun Richey of Thailand; step granddaughters, Brandy Coleman of San Augustine and Ranea Pomeroy of Dallas; three great granddaughters, Bree Ann, Alexandria and Caitlyn.

Born Aug. 23, 1931 in Spurger to Henry and Ruth Best Smith, she lived in Tyler County all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Village Mills Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, Robert Samuel Price and wife, Shari of Vidor; daughters, Tina Marie Johnson and husband Danny and Paula Jean Swor and husband, Charles all of Warren; brothers, Buck Smith of Kountze and Sammy Smith of Lumberton; nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Village Mills Baptist Church under the direction of Riley Funeral Home in Woodville. Burial will follow at Village Mills Cemetery. Visitation was held Tuesday from 5 - 9 at the funeral home.

Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. in the Fairview Cemetery in Dam-B. Officiating was Brother Mike Neal.
Jay was born March 5, 1940 in Georgia. He had been a captain/merchant on a tug boat and was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Forest and Donna Shannon of Lake Charles, LA, Carl JV and Stephanie Shannon of New Orleans, LA and Larry Wayne and Deanna Shannon of Town Bluff; brother, William "Bill" Mehrtens of Kingston, GA; and grandchildren, Kelly Amber Shannon and Brice Wayne Shannon.

James W. Lewis, 64, of Colmesneil, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004 at his residence.
James was born Dec. 20, 1939 to James Wayne and Coral Dalton Lewis in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a former resident of Humble and had lived in Colmesneil for the past eight years. He had been in sales with IBM and was a U. S. Marine Corps veteran.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Marcela Lewis of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Jamie Douglas of Humble; and grandson, Jacob Lewis of Houston.

He passed away Jan. 3, at Dogwood Trails Manor in Woodville. He was born Feb. 11, 1926 in Escambia, Alabama to A. Dolphus Thompson and Florence Minchew, he lived in Tyler County 14 years and was retired from Parker Brothers and was a U. S. Navy Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Adell Thompson of Warren; daughters, Elaine Harris and husband, Jimmy of Silsbee and Charlotte Kelley and husband Ronnie of Manvel; sons, Robert A. Thompson Jr., and wife Barbara of Porter and Kevin Thompson and companion, Patrick Perry of Warren; grandchildren, Duane Staples, John G. Lusk, Jeff Lusk, Kim Chick, Robby Thompson and Melissa Thompson; great grandchildren, Alyssa Kay Staples, Justin Staples, Trey Lusk, Aedian Lusk, Ashlon Lusk, April Chick, Austin Chick; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Athens-- Services for Willis E. "Bill" Bennett, 84, Woodville, formerly of Athens, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. E. L. Pennington officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens.
Mr. Bennett died Jan. 8, 2004 at his Woodville residence. He was born June 16, 1919 in Grannie, Arkansas to the late Jasper Calvin and Annie Flotila Graham Bennett. He lived in Athens 47 years prior to moving to Woodville in 2003. He was Barber all of his working life and was a member of First Baptist Church in Athens.
Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Colley Bennett, Woodville; daughter, Barbara Ann Davis, Mesquite; step-children, Sidney Boyt, Woodville, Norman Colley, Hitchcock, Brenda Colley, Ocala, Fla., Debra Hodges, Texas City; sister, Ruby Jones, Dallas; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Williford passed away Jan. 12, at her resident. She was born Dec. 13, 1918 in Cherokee, County, Alto Texas to Wade Hampton Coleman and Mary Lou Gober. She lived in Tyler County 30 years, she was a homemaker and was a member at Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, C. D. Williford of 66 years; daughters, Mary Jane Cannon and Billy of Mt. Pleasant and Linda Sue Cady and husband Jeff of Pasadena; sisters, Dartha Cummings and husband R. L. of Coldspring, and Irene Rotan of Woodville; grandchildren, Stephanie Horn and husband David of Mt. Pleasant, Chuck Cannon and wife Amanda of Mt. Pleasant, Jon Cady and Mark Cady both of Pasadena and great great grandson, Blake Knight of Mt. Pleasant; numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul Carl Holzhauer

Paul Carl Holzhauer, 82, of Woodville passed away Dec. 30, 2003 at his residence.
Born Dec. 26, 1921 in Massachusetts to Karl and Marie Holzhauer, he lived in Woodville for seventeen years. He was a retired sales man for Finger Furniture and a Navy Veteran. He was a member of the Woodville United Methodist Church and Ivanhoe Mens Club.
Mr. Holzhauer was survived by his loving family; wife of 57 years, Ruth Holzhauer; sons, Paul C. Holzhauer, Jr. of Houston and Robert E. Holzhauer and wife, Susan of Houston; grandchildren, Mary R. Holzhauer, Emily Holzhauer, Paul C. Holzhauer, III, Hannah Dyer-Holzhauer, Mandy Holzhauer, and Bobby Holzhauer all of Houston.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at 12 noon at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Reed officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Woodville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 698 Woodville, Tx. 75979.
Services were held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Faye Dell Kirkland

Faye Dell Kirkland, 76, of Doucette passed away Dec. 30, 2003 at the Tyler County Hospital.
Born May 13, 1927 in Waxahachie, to Marion and Lillie Temple Shaw, she lived in Tyler County for many years. She was retired from Keller Industries.
She is survived by her loving family; son, Johnny Dees of Doucette; daughter, Jeanie Faye Hunter of Doucette; brother W. P. Shaw of Lancaster; sister, Gladys Huddle of Waxahachie; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Funeral service for Mrs. Kirkland was held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Shiloh Church with Brother V. L. Durham officiating. Burial followed at Kirkland Cemetery in Woodville. Visitation was held Friday evening at Riley Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers were J. T. Winters, Durwood Ling, Dewayne Ling, Leroy Hunter, Jerry Townsend and Jerry Simmons.
Services were under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Florence Grace Kafer

Florence Grace Kafer, 56, of Colmesneil passed away Jan. 1, 2004 at her residence.
Born June 14, 1947 in Orange, to Herbert Kafer and Grace Sheffield Patrick, she lived in Colmesneil for many years.
Florence Grace is survived by her loving family; mother, Grace Patrick of Colmesneil; step father, G. W. Patrick of Colmesneil; step sisters, Shirley Balley and Sherry Barton both of Colmesneil; and a host of family and friends.
Funeral service for Florence Grace was held Saturday, Jan. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Durl Patrick and Brother Roy Thurman Patrick officiating. Burial followed at Colmesneil City Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Johnny Barton, Ronnie Hughes, Michael Simmons, Scotty Gilchriest, Chris Gilchriest, Sr., Chris Gilchriest, Jr., Kyle Gilchriest and Sidney Greer. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Joe W. Dickerson, Louis M. Simmons and Billy Bailey.

Marjorie Irene Simmons Day

Marjorie Irene Simmons Day, 75, of Jacksonville passed away Jan. 2, 2004 at Jacksonville Hospital.
A native of Jefferson County, she lived in Tyler County before moving to Jacksonville 10 years ago. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Rusk and a homemaker.
Mrs. Day is survived by her loving husband, Curtis Day of Jacksonville; sons, Dannie Durand Day of Texas City and Roger Dale Day of Abilene; daughters, Bonita Lolei Day of Maryville, TN and Lawana Faye Day of Maryville, TN; brothers, Lloyd Ethan Simmons of Indiana and Marvin Simmons of Vidor; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Alvin Flowers officiating. Burial followed at Steel Grove Cemetery in Colmesneil. Visitation was held Sunday evening at the funeral home and Saturday evening at Boren-Connor Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
Serving as pallbearers were, Curtis Wayne Day, Scott Sayre, Ernest Western, Keith Bush, Rick Wood, Leonard Durham. Honorary pallbearers were Steven Bush and Kenneth Wood.

Kenneth Castle

Kenneth Castle, 76, passed away Dec. 21, 2003 at his residence in Groves.
Born Oct. 18, 1927 in Pueblo, CO. to Frank and Esther Spears Castle he lived in Groves for many years. He was a retired Merchant Marine with Gulf Oil and a Korean Army Veteran.
He is survived by his loving family-- daughter, Jewel Courville of Beaumont; granddaughter, Tonya Courville of Beaumont; wife, Ann Castle of Port Arthur; step sons, William Robert Oliver, Jr. of Silsbee and Albert Abbott of Augusta, GA.
Funeral services was held Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with Brother Alex Rawls officiating. Cremation service was held after the service with interment of ashes to be held at a later date at Gregory Cemetery in Colmesneil.
Services were under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Marilyn Wingate Foster
Marilyn Wingate Foster, 56, passed away Dec. 24, 2003 at her residence in Magnolia.
Born June 22, 1947 in Jasper, to Jay M. and Dorothy Pate Wingate, she lived in Magnolia for many years. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jaylynn Wingate.
She is survived by her loving family-- a son, Jay Foster and wife, Tamara of Magnolia; daughter, Rebecca Terkildsen of Montgomery; sisters, Diane Recla of Oregon and Kathy Lamb of Hull; brother, Kyle Wingate of Houston; grandchildren, Nicolette, Charity, and Ella Terkildsen, Randy and Destany Foster and Chloe Page; step mother, Elaine Wingate Hurst of Nacogdoches.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville with Brother Ray Reed officiating.
Services were under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Margie James Peace

Funeral services for Margie James Peace, 76, of Liberty was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at Allison Funeral Home in Liberty with the Rev. Elbert Reavis and the Rev. Harold Pope officiating. Burial followed at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Cemetery in the community of Emily located near Woodville.
Margie succumbed to a long battle with emphysema on Monday.
Margie James Peace was born in Ruleville, Mississippi, on Jan. 8, 1926, to Jacob James and Mary Puce James who immigrated to the United States from Croatia. The family later moved to a small community called 'Harmony' near Woodville, where she spent her childhood years. After her marriage to Floyd Peace of Colmesneil, they transferred to Liberty where they have lived and reared their family for more than 54 years.
Peace was a homemaker for most of her life working in the early years of her life at Trinity Drug Store in Liberty and was instrumental in the opening of the old Perry Bros. store. She was of the Baptist faith and was active in Heights Baptist Church in earlier years. She had been a Cub Scout den mother as well as Brownie Scout and Girl Scout den mother. She loved sewing, cooking, playing 42 with friends, gardening, traveling and being with her family. More recently, she enjoyed playing cards with friends at Liberty County Project for Aging.
She was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth W. Peace; her parents; sisters, Frances Millard, Carlena Clement and Mary Millard; and brothers, Jacob James, Victor James and Johnny James.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd Peace; daughter, Glenda Kersh and husband Robert of Hardin; grandson, Robert Kersh and wife Christina of Hardin; granddaughters, Amanda Kersh-Key and husband Joshua of Liberty and Jeanette Lyles of Highlands; great grandchildren, Travis Kersh and Taylor Kersh of Liberty, Kenny Lyles and Christian Lyles of Highlands; a special friend, Jean Higgins of Dayton; and many other nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary Lou Davis Smith

Mary Lou Davis Smith, 73, of Texas City passed away Dec. 27, 2003 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
A native of Colmesneil, she lived in Texas City for many years. She was a homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J. P. "Smitty" Smith and her parents Lewis and Zona Davis.
She is survived by her sons, Gary Bryant and wife Rose of Hull, Michael Bryant and wife Sherry of Kenefick; daughter, Carole Townsend of Texas City; brothers, Wodrow Davis of Colmesneil and Escar Davis of Beaumont; sisters, Vesta Belle Worthy of Woodville, Faye Primrose of Jasper, Marguerite Wood of Nederland, Iva Lee Wallace of Cushing, and Beatrice Williams of Nederland; 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville with Bro. Teddy Mac Minyard officiating, burial followed at Davis Cemetery in Colmesneil. Visitation was held Monday from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were Randy Worthy, Jimmy Davis, Robert Allison, Roy Williams, James Carl, and James Ray Wood.
Services were under the direction of Riley Funeral Home of Tyler County.
Marilyn Rose Johnson Gaspard

Marilyn Rose Johnson Gaspard, 59, of Woodville passed away Dec. 26, 2003 at the Tyler County Hospital in Woodville.
Born Nov. 16, 1944 in Jena, LA. to James R. and Margarette Miles Johnson, she lived in Woodville for 20 years. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ray Allen Gaspard; mother, Margarette Johnson of Dam-B; daughters, Pamela Ann Kilgore and husband, Richard of Kevil and Joyceln Gaspard of Livingston; brothers, J. C. Johnson and Thomas Johnson both of Port Neches; grandchildren, Ashley Kilgore and Joshua Kilgore of Kevil and Trace Foster of Livingston.
Funeral service was held Monday, Dec. 29, 2003 at 2 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Thomas Martin officiating. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers were Oscar Vara, Aaron Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Lonnie Gaspard, Justin Kelly, and Kenneth Burchett.

Winston Charles Padgett

Winston Charles Padgett, 64, of Beaumont, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital, Beaumont due to complications associated with Lou Gehrig's disease. A native of McAllen, and longtime Beaumont area resident, Mr. Padgett retired after thirty-three years of service for the Department of Public Safety Special Agent assigned to the Beaumont, Texas State Intelligence Division. At the time of retirement he was an honorary Texas Ranger. He also retired as a criminal investigator for the Hardin County D. A.'s office. Mr. Padgett served as a United States Army paratrooper and in the military police.
Mr. Padgett enjoyed canoeing, rafting in the Grand Canyon, was a member of the Big Thicket Voyagers Canoe Club, a member of the TNOA and TSTA, a gun collector, and jack-of-all trades and master of most. He was loved and respected by everyone who met him. Daddy, we thank you for all you taught us; even when you didn't know we were looking.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28 at Broussard's, 1605 N. Major Drive, Beaumont. A reception for family and friends followed from 3 until 4:30 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Dowlen Road, Beaumont. A gathering of family and friends was held from 3 until 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27 at the mortuary.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl McWilliams Padgett of Beaumont; son, Clay Rigby and his wife Suzanne of Woodville and their children, Zack and Samantha; daughters, Kare Whitworth and her husband Dennis of Houston and their children, Ashley and Miss Avery and Christine Murphy and her husband Rob of Virginia Beach, Virginia and their children, Max and Keagan; mother, Lorena Mayfield Padgett of Orange; brother, G. P. Padgett and his wife Jo Ann of Orange; and numerous nieces and nephews. His father, George P. Padgett and his brother, Freeman Padgett, preceded him in death.

Arthur A. Dvorak, 88, of Woodville, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at Dogwood Trails Manor Nursing Home in Woodville.
Graveside memorial services were held on Saturday, Dec. 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the Magnolia Cemetery in Woodville. Officiating was Father Egidio Vecchio, pastor of Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Woodville.
Arthur was born May 14, 1915 to Joseph and Emma Mach Dvorak in South Dakota. He was a former resident of Las Vegas, Nevada and had lived in Woodville for the past seventeen years. He was a retired bell captain from the Sahara Hotel and was a WWII U. S. Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Florence Dvorak of Woodville; son, Arthur A. "Tony" Dvorak, Jr. of Austin; daughter, Jordan Reed of San Antonio; sister, Harriet Leathem of Woodville; two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Services were under the direction of Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home of Woodville.
Glendall Vernon McKee

Glendall Vernon McKee, 69, of Chester, passed away in his home Thursday, Dec. 11, 2003. The cremation was Friday, Dec. 12. Mr. McKee was born Feb. 1, 1934, in McComb, Oklahoma.
Mr. McKee served in the US Army during the Korean War and he was employed in the Electrical Maintenance for Farmland International.
He is survived by his wife, Laurie Patricia Rice McKee; two sons; Rick McKee of Austin and Glen McKee in Dallas; four brothers, Edgar D. McKee and Maxie J. R. McKee both of Oklahoma City, Wavil A. McKee of Holt, Florida and Venny R. McKee of Elva, Alabama; sister, Patricia Kunard of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; and three grandchildren, Amy, Matthew and Hailey.

Effie M. Odom, 86, of Woodville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003 at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Woodville with burial in Fairview Cemetery at Town Bluff.
Officiating was President Gordon McCabe, Brother Governor Leon Crawford and Brother Richard "Dick" Postlethwaite. Serving as pallbearers were Mark S. Odom, John E. Odom, James Allen Bingham, George Albert Odom, Stephen Odom, Mike Odom, Kirk Odom and Lonnie Odom.
Visitation was held on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was born Sept. 4, 1917 to John Edgar and Nora Lee Crosby Kirkland in Fred. She was a former longtime resident of Daisetta and Woodville. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Woodville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Emery Odom and son, Walder Edward Odom. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, George E. Odom, Jr. and friend, Barbara Peacock of Las Vegas, NV, H. Martin and Mary Odom of Woodville, Jimmie H. and Peggy Odom of Hemphill, and Melvin W. and Barbara Odom of Deville, LA; daughter and son-in-law, Ethel LaNora and Billy Joe Davis of Town Bluff; sister, Delores Martin of Daisetta; brother, Rev. V. W. Kirkland of Orange; fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and twelve great-great grandchildren.
