Leroy Goldberg
Leroy John Goldberg, 81 years old, lifelong resident of Burton, passed away June 23, 2002, at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Leroy was born Oct. 3, 1920, in Burton, the son of Herman and Nelda Sonnenburg Goldberg. He was baptized into the Methodist faith in Industry and was confirmed Sept. 20, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Rehburg. He attended school at Eberhardt School. Dec. 31, 1949, he was married to Lorine Mueller in St. John's United Church of Christ of Burton. Leroy was a longtime member of St. John's United Church of Christ of Burton. He enjoyed gardening, talking, driving through the pasture looking at his cows and telling stories. Papa also enjoyed playing with his great-grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lorine of Burton; his son and daughter-in-law, Lemroy and Barbara Goldberg of Burton; grandchildren, Misty Lucherk and her husband, Kevin of Burton, Kacey Weiss and her husband Chad of Brenham and Nick Goldberg of Burton; beloved great-grandchildren, Riley Lucherk and Cade Weiss; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Madelyn Goldberg of Burton; sister, Elnora Stanley of Ledbetter; brother, Harry Goldberg of Ledbetter; sister, Ruth McClellan of Rosenberg; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, August and Adeline Mueller; brothers-in-law, August Mueller Jr., Bennie Mueller, J.P. Stanley Jr. and Frank McClellan; and sister-in-law, Alleen Goldberg. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, in St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton with the Rev. Jerry Wickel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton from 6-8 p.m. today. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Stanley, Kenneth Ladewig, Clyde Fuchs and his grandsons, Nicholas Goldberg, Kevin Lucherk and Chad Weiss. Janet Lehmann
Janet Lehmann, 68, of Ledbetter, died June 21, 2002. She was born July 13, 1933 in Burton to Adolph T. Neutzler and Alma Wickel. She married Kenneth Lehmann June 22, 1952. She was a merchant at a general store. Mrs. Lehmann is survived by her husband, Kenneth Lehmann of Ledbetter; two daughters, Sandra Blasig and husband Ronnie of Giddings and Dawn Flores and husband Willie of Cedar Park; two grandchildren, Taylor Blasig of Giddings and Hunter Flores of Cedar Park; one sister, Aileen Blume and husband Kermit of Ledbetter; two sisters-in-law, Nelita Neutzler of Carmine and Ruby Weerts of Ledbetter; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Lehmann and wife Ruby of Ledbetter and Edward Lehmann and wife Marilyn of Carmine; and numerous nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be tonight at 7 p.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home, 588 N. Main, Giddings, Texas. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 25, at 10 a.m. at Martin Luther Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ralph Lien officiating. Burial will be in Ledbetter Cemetery. Herbert Brast
Herbert Emil Brast was born April 29, 1907 in the Coshatte community in Austin County, Texas, the son of Albert and Emma Peters Brast. He grew up on the family farm outside of Bellville and attended the Oak Ridge School. Feb. 12, 1930, he was united in marriage with Elenora Louise Hoff. They made their home in Bellville during most of their married lifetime where they were members of St. John Lutheran Church. They also lived in Alvin for a brief time. Elenora preceded Herbert in death Dec. 27, 1990. During his working years, Herbert operated a dairy, farmed and ranched. He bought the family farm from his father and raised various crops and cotton. He also delivered milk to Carnation in Brenham. During the depression, he worked for the WPA. He gardened, rode his tractor and bailed his own hay up until he turned 90. For over 60 years he was a member of the WOW. He was also a member of the Austin County Farm Bureau having served as a director for the Farm Bureau for 25 years. After he sold his dairy, he enjoyed taking trips with the Farm Bureau. A kind and considerate man, Herbert always loved to visit with family and friends, and he never had a bad word to say about anyone. He loved to dance, which he learned at an early age, and he enjoyed playing dominoes and woodworking. He also thoroughly enjoyed his birthday parties. He passed away Sunday, June 30, 2002 in a Bellville nursing facility at the age of 95 years. He is survived by his children, Joyce and Robert Bullard, Harry and Gloria Brast and Clinton and Marilyn Brast, all of Bellville and Neely Faye and Bill Vasicek of Industry; grandchildren, Lucinda Gault, Denise Johnston, Gary Lee Bullard, Stephen, Winston and Clifford Brast, Tonja Breaux, Tammy Ables, Stanley Vasicek and Stacey Bendele; great-grandchildren Laurinda White, Jason Gault, Matthew and Benjamin Johnston, Taylor, Joshua and Shelby Bullard, Alexandra, Clay and Cole Brast, Hunter and Haley Breaux and Mackenzie and Clinton Ables; great-great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kelsey White; brothers, Melvin Brast of Austin and Albert Brast of Bellville; sisters, Nonie Koehn of Bellville and Olinda Witten of Floresville; daughter-in-law, Rosemary Brast of Sour Lake; and numerous other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sons, Herbert Brast Jr., Dennis Wayne Brast and Roy Brast; and one brother. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville where family will be present to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ross Worch officiating. Burial will follow in the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Herbert's grandsons, Gary Bullard, Stephen Brast, Winston Brast, Clifford Brast, Stanley Vasicek; and great-grandson, Jason Gault will serve as pallbearers. Mary Haskins
Mary Elizabeth Haskins, 58, of Brenham passed from this life Monday, July 1, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mary was born April 6, 1944 in San Angelo, Texas to Eugene Edgar and Ruth Elizabeth (Crouch) Armistead. She shared her upbringing with nine siblings. After earning an undergraduate degree from Missouri State University, she continued her education and received a masters degree in education from Sam Houston State University. She worked for many years dedicated to improving the lives of those with special needs. She was employed with the Brenham State School for 16 years. Sept. 7, 1984 she married Jimmy R. Haskins in Brenham. Mary is survived by her husband, Jimmy R. Haskins of Brenham; mother, Ruth Elizabeth (Crouch) Armistead of Austin; daughter, Madeline Lee Rivera and son-in-law, Salvador Rivera of Hutto; sisters, Jean Atkinson of Palestine, Denise Armistead of Austin and Linda Niemi of Houston; brothers and sisters-in-law, Eugene and Shirley Armistead of Riverside, Calif., David and Suzanne Armistead of Austin and Steven Armistead of Vancouver, Wash.; mother-in-law, Mrs. W.A. Haskins of Tehuacana; step-daughter, Christi Kobelan and husband Thomas of Austin; along with five step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her father, Eugene Edgar Armistead; sisters, Ruth Moment Armistead and Pamela Gem Hanrahan. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Charles Matejowsky will officiate. Ella Mathis
Services for Ella Mae Mathis, 53, of Burton will be Saturday, July 6, at 11 a.m. at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The Rev. LeRoy Solomon will be officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Hill Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her mother, Roxie Patterson; five daughters; two sons; eleven grandchildren; four sisters; two brothers; one aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives. J.D. Smith
Services for J.D. (Peter) Smith, 59, will be Saturday, July 6, at 1 p.m. at the Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Kallie officiating. Burial will be in the Kenney Cemetery. Florian Zientek
Florian J. Zientek, 76, of Chappell Hill died Thursday, July 4 in a Houston hospital. He was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Chappell Hill to Frank and Rosie (Jozwiak) Zientek. He grew up in Chappell Hill, being baptized and confirmed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and attending Chadwick School. Mr. Zientek served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Korea with the 1st Battalion and 32nd Infantry. On Oct. 29, 1949, he was married to Emily Skweres in St. Mary's Catholic Church of Brenham by Msgr. Charles Weisnerowski. He worked 30 years at American Can Company in Houston, retiring in 1980 and returning to Chappell Hill. He remained an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Emily Zientek and mother, Rosie Zientek both of Chappell Hill; three sons and their wives, Patrick and Frances Zientek of Tomball, Paul and Loretta Zientek of Houston and Jan and Rhonda Zientek of Houston; grandchildren, Larry and Kristi Galik of Tomball and Daniel and Erica Zientek of Houston; sisters and their husbands, Vicki Bolcerek of Houston, Helen and Dennis Hinze of Katy, Connie and Delmar Schmidt of Magnolia and Dorothy and James Brymm of Cypress; sisters-in-law, Mary Zientek of Brenham and Lucille Skweres of Houston; 17 nieces and nephews; 27 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great-nieces. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Zientek; daughter, Rose Mary Zientek; brothers, Stanley Zientek and Anthony Zientek; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Martin and Mary Skweres and brothers-in-law, Willie Bolcerek, Ike Skweres and Benjamin Skweres. Rosary will be recited this evening at 7 p.m. in Brenham Memorial Chapel. Funeral mass will be offered Saturday, July 6, at 10 a.m. in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church of Chappell Hill by Father Gene Shepard. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Royce Mascheck
Royce Mascheck, age 59 years, of the Roznov community near Fayetteville, passed away Friday morning at his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1942 to Emil and Antonie (Cordes) Mascheck, in Fayetteville. After serving in the National Guard from 1964 until 1970, he went to work as a carpenter in the maintenance department of Brenham State School. Dec. 11, 1982, he married Verlyn Faye Dusek in Wesley. Survivors include his wife, Verlyn Faye Mascheck of Fayetteville; three children, Tonie Faye Mascheck, Cody Lynn Mascheck and Kyle Allen Mascheck, all of Fayetteville; a brother-in-law, Lynn Dusek Jr. and his wife Beth of Wesley; father-in-law, Lynn Dusek Sr. of Wesley; one niece; and nephew. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday from the Wesley Brethren Church with the Rev. Nello Strickland and the Rev. Milton Maly officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Vera Brandt
Vera Ella Mayer Brandt began her heavenly journey at approximately 12:15 p.m. July 6, 2002, at the age of 92 years, seven months and two days. She was the daughter of Edwin O. Mayer and Eva Stoerner Mayer. She was born Dec. 4, 1909 in the Latium community of Washington County. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith Dec. 10, 1911 in the Winedale Church. She received her education in the Latium School of Washington County. She married Clemens Brandt Sept. 26, 1928. She spent her life as a homemaker on a small farm in the Latium community of Washington County. She enjoyed sewing and cooking, especially homemade bread and cookies, for her children and grandchildren. She was known for her pickle-canning recipe. Mrs. Brandt is survived by five children, Lloyd C. and wife Anna Rose Brandt of Burton, Milton E. and wife Judy Brandt of Houston, Frederick and wife Carol Brandt of Bellville and Rena and husband Donald Abel of Burton. Vera was the grandmother of 13, great-grandmother of 22 and great-great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clemens Brandt; son, Calvin A. Brandt; her grandson, Robert Wayne Brandt; her brother, Leslie Mayer; and her sister, Nita Pohl. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 9 at 10 a.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham with the Rev. Henry Beseda officiating. Burial will be in Latium Cemetery. Charles Jozwiak
Charles Pete Jozwiak, 88, died Sunday, July 7, 2002 in Brenham Rest Home. Charles was born Jan. 28, 1914 to Henry and Stella (Twadarski) Jozwiak in Chappell Hill, Texas and where he also attended school. On Nov. 4, 1936, he was married to Nancy Angle Faterkowski in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Bellville. Charles was a welder and pipe fitter for a chemical plant. Charles is survived by his wife, Nancy Jozwiak of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny P. and wife Bernice Jozwiak of Brenham and Charles and wife Verna Ann Jozwiak of Somerville; five grandchildren, Kathy and husband Jon Sutherland, Elaine Dodd, Cindy and husband Greg Elmore, Louise and husband Robert Bielamowiez and Dale and wife Tanya Jozwiak; brother, Sigmund Jozwiak of Houston; and sister, Rosie Zientek of Chappell Hill; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9 in Brenham Memorial Chapel by Deacon Dan Nowak. Pauline Bufkin
Mrs. Pauline Emmons Bufkin went to be with her Lord July 8, 2002 at the age of 100. At the time of her death she was a resident of Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 11, at the Chapel of the Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Mansfield, La. Dr. William Crosby and Dr. Scott Tatum will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery beside Floran E. Bufkin, her husband for 68 years prior to his death Dec. 27, 1987. Mrs. Bufkin was born April 4, 1902 in the Wallace community. In 1924 she and Mr. Bufkin moved to Mansfield. They were owners and operators of a grocery business in Mansfield for 26 years. At the time of her death, she had been an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mansfield for 74 years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, James W. Emmons Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Haire Emmons; four brothers; and four sisters. She is survived by one son, David Bufkin and his wife Lee of Brenham; two grandchildren, Peggy Louise Bufkin Gerst and her husband Robert E. Gerst of Houston and David Michael Bufkin of San Antonio; three great-grandchildren, Robert Derrick Gerst and his wife Karen Gerst of Durango, Colo., Richard Brian Gerst of Durango, Colo. and Kathleen G. Ham and her husband Kevin Ham of Houston; and great-great-grandchildren, Pacey Lee Purvis of Houston and Caleb Michael Gerst of Durango, Colo. Pallbearers will be deacons of First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Bufkin, Ray Lewing and the other deacons of First Baptist Church. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Mansfield or the charity of their choice.

Glenewinkel
Erich C. Glenewinkel, 81, of Bleiblerville and husband of Loraine Glenewinkel, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002 at his residence. The family will receive friends at Brenham Memorial Chapel Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002 at 2 p.m. in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Welcome with the Rev. Hogan
Funeral services for Ophelia Hogan, who died at her residence Jan. 31, will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Soul Chapel AME Church. The Rev. Felix Phillips will officiate with burial in Soul Chapel Cemetery. Survivors include two sons and three daughters, Sterling Hogan, Lloyd Hogan, Doris Moore, Lola Hogan and Joyce Sharp; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends. Steenken
Odie “Sonny” Steenken, 81, of Burton, died Feb. 1, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Steenken was born Jan. 27, 1921 in the Winedale community of Washington County, to Fritz and Hilda Witte Steenken. He was baptized in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top and was confirmed in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine. Mr. Steenken attended Winedale School and Round Top School and was a graduate of LaGrange High School. He served in the Air Force during World War II. On June 1, 1957, he married Patsy Helmcamp. Mr. Steenken was retired from Walter Thielemann Construction Co. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton, Burton Fire Department and the American Legion. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Fritz Odie and Karen Steenken of Burton; step-son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Pattie Waneck of Saudi Arabia; grandchildren, Tyler Steenken of Burton and Tanner Steenken of Burton; six step-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ouida and Leslie Rohde of Bastrop and Doris and Greg James of Houston. He was preceded in death by his wife Patsy Steenken in October 1971; his parents; sister, Laverne Knittel; and one step-daughter. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3 in St. John’s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Weiss
Minnie Tiemann Weiss, 84, of Brenham, died Jan. 31, 2002 in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Weiss was born Sept. 12, 1917 in New Wehdem, Texas to Fritz and Emilie Loesch Tiemann. She was baptized Nov. 4, 1917 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem by H. Poehlmann and was confirmed March 20, 1932 in the same church by the Rev. M.C. Hoermann. Mrs. Weiss attended New Wehdem School. On Nov. 1, 1935, she married Dan Weiss in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. In 1936, she joined the Methodist Church. Mrs. Weiss was a housewife. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia Lea and Charles Haberman of Austin and Ann Jennette and Kenneth Pieper of Brenham; grandchildren, Camille Elaine Haberman of Austin, Patrick Haberman of Austin, Jennifer Anne Haberman of Austin, Kim Deree and Rocky Jones of Brenham and Tammy and Chris Bugaj of Brenham; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Michael Haberman and Ian Charles Haberman of Austin and Kyle Christopher Bugaj of Brenham; sisters, Emma Sander and Verlin Boecker, both of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Margaret Tiemann of Brenham; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marie Weiss of Lufkin, Dr. Arch and Esther Coleman of Waco and Gladys Tiemann of Bellville. Adoline Carroll
Adoline Easley Carroll, 88, of Houston, a child of God, passed from this life July 15, 2002, to be with the Lord in her new heavenly home. She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Carroll Jr., who was raised in Brenham; their daughters, Mary Carroll and Catherine Carroll Harper; her sisters, Ellen Easley, Tom Joyce Cunningham and Nina Price; and brother, Leslie Easley. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Gordon; her son and daughter-in-law, James and Florence Carroll; her grandchildren and their spouses, Clint and Carolyn Harper, Mack Harper, Kate and John Aranda, Patrick Harper, Mary and Jeff Burton, Jamie Carroll and David Carroll; her great-grandchildren, Aaron, Andrew and Cole Harper, Gabriel and Emory Aranda and Luke and Reagan Burton; and her nieces and nephews and their children. Adoline taught fourth grade for many years at St. Anne's Catholic School in Houston. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 18, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham, followed by burial at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Instead of sending flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Geo. H. Flora Jahnke
Flora Anna Jaster Jahnke, 81, of the Burton community, died July 19, 2002, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mrs. Jahnke was born Aug. 14, 1920, in the Hohenwalde community of Washington County, Texas, to Ferdinand and Olga (Draeger) Jaster. She was baptized Nov. 28, 1920 in St. John's Evangelical Church in Burton and was confirmed March 25, 1934 in the same church. She attended Hohenwalde School. On Feb. 1, 1945, she married Edward W. Jahnke in St. John's Evangelical Church in Burton. Mrs. Jahnke worked as an aide at Bohne Hospital for 24 years. She was a member of Brenham Stroke Support Group. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Elroy Dannhaus of Brenham; one grandson, Scot Alan Dannhaus of Katy; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Leroy Drews of Brenham; and sister-in-law, Norma Schaefer of Cleburne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward W. Jahnke, on Dec. 5, 1988; sister, Lona Jaster; an infant daughter, Virginia Elaine; and stepmother, Bertha. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 22, at 10:30 a.m. in St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton with the Rev. Jerry Wickel officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 21 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to St. John's United Church of Christ in Burton. Clyde Martin
Clyde Hubert Martin, 70, of Brenham, died July 17, 2002 in Audie Murphy Memorial Veterans Association Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. Mr. Martin was born Sept. 2, 1931 in Beaumont, Texas to Clyde "Speedy" and Edith Therese (Ledet) Martin. He was a 1949 graduate of Bishop Bryne High School in Port Arthur. Mr. Martin earned a bachelor of science degree from Sul Ross State University in Alpine and a master of science degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. Throughout his college career, he competed on the rodeo team in such places as Madison Square Garden. During the Korean Conflict, Mr. Martin served in the Army as a medical scrub nurse at Fort Hood, Texas. July 14, 1961, he married Lucile Miller in Liberty, Texas. Mr. Martin was an instructor at Blinn College from 1966 to 2001. He loved teaching and was always involved with students. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham. Mr. Martin loved a good garage sale. He was an avid recycler and gardener and loved to read. He volunteered for Bread Partners and was a frequent visitor to local retirement homes. Mr. Martin never met a stranger and will be remembered for his smile, his bubble gum and his Cajun jokes. Survivors include his wife, Lucile Martin of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Albert and Kim Martin of Houston, Dale and Theresa McManus of Sargent and Michael and Karyme Martin of Midland; daughters and son-in-law, Mickey Neel of Phoenix, Ariz., Linda McManus of San Antonio and Theresa and Larry Wahrmund of Brenham; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Sylvia Shelley, Jennifer and Mark Rodriguez, Janie Pinckard, Thomas McManus, Chase Martin, Christian Wahrmund, Alicia Wahrmund, Benjamin Martin and Abbie Martin; two great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Tex and Tammi Martin of Rainier, Wash.; sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Gene Watkins of Port Neches; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a baby sister. The funeral Mass will be offered Saturday, July 20 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brenham with Father Richard Tijerina, celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Brenham. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel with the Rosary being recited at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Herman Schoenemann, Doug Pierce, Jesse Lee Wied, Johnny Schroeder, Buddy Hamrick, Timmy Krueger and Franklin Eckert. Honorary pallbearers will be Lawrence Hemann, Walter Schwartz, Blinn College faculty and administration and Independence Breakfast Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Blinn College Scholarship Fund, Office of the President, 902 College Ave., Brenham, Texas 77833. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St. in Brenham.

Ralph Thornbrough
Ralph D. Thornbrough, 76, of Brenham, died July 18, 2002, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Thornbrough was born Feb. 28, 1926, in Ethelsville, Ala., to Van 0. and Maude (Gee) Thornbrough. He was educated in Liberty, Ala. On May 17, 1947, he married Martha Vaughn in Columbus, Miss. Mr. Thornbrough was a retired employee of Sun Oil Co. He was a member of Brenham Church of Christ and NRA. Survivors include his wife, Martha Thornbrough of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, David and Janna Thornbrough of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Deby and Billy Conner of Washington; 6 grandchildren, Casey L. Conner and wife Amanda, Christopher D. Thornbrough, Andrew W. Thornbrough, Eric D. Richardson, Adam J. Love and Johnthan R. Love; 2 great-grandchildren, Chelsea Leigh Conner and Christian Preston. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; one brother; and one grandson, David R. Conner. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m. in Memorial Oaks Chapel with Minister Bob Grigg officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, July 20. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
