Joyce Ann Broesche, 69, of Burton, died February 23, 2015 in Bryan, losing a courageous eight-year battle with cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday February 26, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Mr. Foree Grove officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Verline Jeanette Schulze Schlabach left this earthly kingdom on February 20, 2015, at the age of 85 years. Survivors include her son, Michael R. (Karla) Schlabach Sr. of Brenham; her daughter, Sheryl L. (Dennis) Durfey of Smithville; grandchildren, Michael R. (Kelly) Schlabach of Boston, Matthew R. (Meredith) Schlabach of Houston, and Sara E. Durfey of Smithville; stepgrandsons, Dwayne A. Durfey and children Shaylee and Dallin, and Steven C. Durfey and children Aiden, Rilee and Lilly; sister-in-law, Katherine Schulze of Shelby; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy E. Schlabach; her parents, Herbert and Frida Reuter Schulze; brothers, Melvin Schulze and Burnie Schulze; and sister-in-law, Burdine Schulze. Marvin Lee Makowsky, 76, of Carmine, died, January 30, 2017 at his home. Main in Brenham Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 5 until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, February 3, 2017 at Living Word Lutheran Church of Katy, 3700 S. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Harry Raymond Gourley
Services for Harry Raymond Gourley, 96, of DuBois, Wyoming are set for 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell, Texas. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2017 also at the funeral home. Mr. Gourley passed away January 28, 2017 in Caldwell. Harry was born March 14, 1920 to Lewis O. Gourley and Annie Pearl LaFon Gourley in Polaris, Montana. Harry loved his horses and he loved flying. He flew a B-17 during WWII for the United States Air Force. After the war he went to India on a government project to rid the country of locusts. In later years he worked for the Highway department, was a pilot for the Aggie’s Over Texas Parachute Club and owned a dry cleaning business. He worked for the state of Nevada shooting coyotes from his plane and was a sheep herder and loved Wyoming. Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Gourley; daughter, Jane Pevehouse; brothers, Lewis Gourley, Lester Gourley, Jimmy Gourley; and sisters, Thelma Gourley and Dora Boles. He is survived by son, Pete Gourley of Edge, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Rogers Gill and Husband James, Cathy & Duane Spruill of Caldwell; Stefanie & G.W. Jancik of Caldwell, Barbara Shapiro and husband Steve; grandchildren, Danny McKinzie, Brad Lauderdale and wife Tanya, Brian Lauderdale and wife Jackie, Cameron McCoy and wife Kaylee, Blake McCoy, Madison McCoy, David Gourley, William Gourley, Elizabeth Morrow, Brianna and Hillary Shapiro; great-grandchildren, Cassidy Lauderdale, Mitchell Lauderdale, Lincoln Lauderdale, Owen Lauderdale, Liam McCoy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Robert (Bob) W. Wolf passed away Sunday, January 22, 2017 in Brenham, TX, surrounded by family and friends. Bob is survived by Helen Wolf, his wife of 59 years; four children: Cynthia Wolf Davis of Salem, Ohio; Carol Wolf (Waco Rainey) of San Antonio, TX; Judith Wolf of Austin, TX and Robb Wolf (Jackie) of Hartville, Ohio; grandchildren: Joshua King, BJ King, (Whitney), Justin King, Beau Clayman, Dylan (Christine) Wolf, Hayden (Megan) Wolf, and Mason Wolf; step-grandchildren: Dallas Rainey (Bridget), Autumn (David) Stewart and Celeste (Chad) Yost. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and step-great grandchildren, as well as a brother, Richard K. Wolf (Mary) and a sister, Marilyn (Richard) Chamberlain of E. Liverpool, Ohio. Jane Mueller Giddings, age 83 of Brenham, the widow of Alton R. Mueller and Thomas H. Giddings, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 23rd, at 10 am at the Brenham Memorial Chapel, 2300 Stringer St., with Pastor Kay Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Evelyn Gaskamp Giesenschlag
Evelyn Gaskamp Giesenschlag departed this life on January 17, 2017. Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 4-7 p.m. at Strickland Funeral Home in Somerville. Services will be Friday, January 20, 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Karl Tewold officiating. Burial will follow in Giesenschlag Cemetery. She was born November 11, 1924, to Robert F. and Ida (Rodenbeck) Gaskamp. She is a graduate of Brenham High School and Blinn College. Evelyn grew up in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham where she was confirmed. On June 12, 1948, she married Melvin A. Giesenschlag at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham. She moved from Brenham to a farm at Mound Prairie near Snook. She learned to do farm tasks and when Melvin was in school she could be seen pulling trailers of cotton to the gin or taking water to the workers or delivering eggs to Bryan or Longpoint. She was the woman behind the Ag teacher always providing support and refreshments for Ag short courses or being a chaperone to the State Fair, FFA convention or livestock shows at Houston and San Antonio. Once her children were in high school she continued to help on the farm but went back to work at the Agricultural Extension Service then later started over a 30 year banking career at Citizens State Bank in Somerville until her retirement. She was always a promoter of local businesses and of bettering her community. She supported community organizations ans was often a behind the scenes worker sharing her skills and cooking talents. She never stopped learning and stayed abreast of what the needs were of her family and her friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and two brothers: Robert E Gaskamp and Milton C. Gaskamp. Survivors are her children Melynda Giesenschlag and John Robert Giesenschlag and his wife Connie, their children, Leslie R. Giesenschlag, Robert J. Giesenschlag and wife Kimberly, Randa Vajdak and husband Steven and Erin Walker, great-grandchildren, Grayson John Giesenschlag, Zachary Giesenschlag, Lance Vajdak, Wade Vajdak, her sister Marilyn Bentke and her husband Ernest Ray and a host of other relatives and friends.
