George Joseph Kovar
George Joseph Kovar passed away at his home in Sealy on Friday December 20th, 2013. Mr. Kovar was born in Ellinger TX to Joe and Sophie Baca Kovar on February 17th, 1934. He graduated from St John’s Catholic School in Fayetteville. He served in the Korean War for the US Army. Mr. Kovar was a Drywall Craftsman by trade until his retirement. He loved working in the garden and with his fruit trees. Mr. Kovar was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Pete Kovar Sr and Edwin Kovar. He leaves to mourn his wife of 54 years, Opal Lilie Kovar of Sealy; daughters Sandy Wellbrock and husband Kenny of Brenham, Doris Widacki and husband Steve of Katy, Laurie Roznovsky and friend Geary Maples of Houston; grandchildren Amanda Garvin and husband Jon of Beeville, Cory Wellbrock and wife Jennifer of Cedar Park, Chase Wellbrock of Houston, Tiffany Lauzon and husband Sonny of Columbus, Cassidy Widacki of Katy, Courtney Pesak and husband Aaron of Weimar, Cadey Widacki of Katy, Trey Roznovsky and Krysta Roznovsky of Cypress; and 1 great grandson, Caden Garvin of Beeville. Visitation will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Frydek on Sunday December 22nd, 2013 at 5:00 with Rosary being recited at 7:00. Funeral Services will be held Monday December 23rd, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Frydek. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Frydek. Christine Gogolin Grabow
Christine Gogolin Grabow, 97, of Brenham, widow of Gus Grabow, died December 20, 2013 at Kruse Lutheran Village Health Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Florence Rose and Donald Ray Ahrens; grandchildren Dr. Craig and Vickie Ahrens of Flower Mound, and Tamara Leigh and Charles Canterbury of Richmond; great-grandchildren: Kristen and Kyle Canterbury, and Matthew Ahrens, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1981, brother and sister-in-law Carl and Jean Gogolin, sisters and brothers-in-law Clara and Paul Schulte, Gertrude and Marvin Smith, Marie and Sam Cohen, and Ben and Margaret Heidemann, her mother and father-in-law Florence and Gus Grabow, Sr., sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Gladys and William Sommer, and Benita and Richard Geisler, nephews Paul Wm. Schulte, Paul Heidemann, Manuel Gonzales, Richard Geisler, and nieces Clara Adele Woods, Bessie Sommer, and Janice Sommer. Frank Edwin Goodrich
Frank Edwin Goodrich 80, of Brenham, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2014. Frank was born July 26, 1933 in Henry County, Missouri to the late Frank Perry and Ruth (Greeson) Goodrich. He is survived by his wife Louise of 58 years, daughters, Anita Louise and Vicki Rae both of Brenham, grandchildren Christopher Alan Goodrich of Houston, Matthew Ryan Huebner and Anitra Naomi Thomas of Brenham. Brother and sister-in-law, James and Katherine Goodrich of Liberty, Missouri, sister and brother-in-law, Mary Kathryn and Rev. Harold Johnson of Bolivar, Missouri, numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clarence Allen, Earl Wilbur and sister Frances Ruth Anders. Funeral services for Frank Edwin Goodrich are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Brenham, with Pastors Kay Reed and Jon Stouffer officiating. Shirley Ann Hueske
Shirley Ann Hueske, 69, of Brenham died on January 18, 2014 in St. Lukes Hospital. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 21 at Salem Lutheran Church in Salem with Pastors Charles Parnell and Toby Burk officiating, burial will be in the Salem Church Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, January 20 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Gladys Lurline Miller
(January 3, 1912 - January 6, 2012)
Graveside services for Gladys Miller, 100 of Allen, Texas and formerly of Giddings, Texas, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at the Giddings Memorial Park in Giddings. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2012 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings.
Gladys Lurline Miller was born on January 3, 1912 to William and Louise Phears in Dime Box, Texas. Gladys was married to Harold A. Miller for 52 glorious years. She raised two beautiful children, Janice and Tommy. Gladys and Harold led an adventurous life living in dozens of cities throughout Harold’s career as a seismologist with Shell Oil. Several years after Harold’s retirement, the couple relocated to Giddings from Houston where they lived happily together until Harold’s death. Gladys then relocated to San Angelo, Texas to be near her son and his family. She lived there for 23 years before moving to Allen, Texas in November 2011 to again be near her son and his family.
Gladys passed away peacefully at 7:30 am on Friday, January 6, 2012 at Mustang Creek Estates in Allen, Texas. She will be remembered for her barely gray hair, her sweet tooth, independent spirit, and love for her family and Blue Bell ice cream!
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, William “Daddy Will” and Louise “Grandma Louise” Phears, her husband, Harold A. Miller, her daughter, Janice L. Johnson, her son-in-law, Ralph Johnson, and her sisters, Lillian Funk, LaTrelle Peters, and Elaine Baldree.
Gladys is survived by her son, Harold “Tommy” Miller and daughter-in-law, Sherri Miller, her grandchildren, Sherri Linn and David Demecs, Darrell and Debbie Johnson, Marcy Lynn Miller, Derek and Jennifer Miller, her great-grandchildren, Bill and Heather Gibson, Alison Schwiebert, Tyler Johnson, Delaina Johnson, Sophie Miller, Pierce Miller, and Maxwell Miller, her great-great-grandchildren, Calleigh Schwiebert and Haley Gibson, her sister, Betty Jo Luker, and brother-in-law, Robert “Bob” Luker, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Bill Peters, Mike Baldree, Steve Luker, Barry Bibb, Austin Luker, and David Douglas. Honorary pallbearers will be: Sam Tigerina, Scott Luker, Brandon Bibb, Brent Baldree, Robert Luker, John Funk, Billy Moore, Dale Bennett, and Mark Winger.

Bertha Kruse, age 86 of Brenham and the widow of John Kruse, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., Sunday, January 19 at Brenham Memorial Chapel. Edward Hopmann
Edward Hopmann, 84 of Burton, passed away at his home Saturday, January 11, 2014. Edward is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Daulene Hopmann; sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patty Hopmann of Richmond, Don Hopmann of Alvin; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kaitlin Hopmann of Richmond; sister-in-law, Gene Hopmann of Kearns, Texas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Allan and Betty Koerth of Missouri City, Texas, Delton Koerth of Burton, Billy Dean Koerth and special friend Teresa Bilski of Burton; Maurice and Nancy Petersen of Livingston, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. Florence Jeanette (Hoff) Wendt
Florence Jeanette (Hoff) Wendt, 89, resident of Bellville, Texas, went to be with her Lord on January 10, 2014. She passed away after a short stay in a Brenham hospital. Florence was born May 17, 1924, in the Roach Prairie community in Austin County, Texas, to parents Paul and Alvina (Schavrda) Hoff. She was reared and went to school in Roach Prairie, near Burleigh. Florence worked on the farm with her parents. Florence was baptized in the Catholic faith in Bellville on December 13, 1924 and confirmed on April 2, 1939 at St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville. On June 20, 1943, Florence married Earl William Wendt at St. John Lutheran Church of Bellville. They made their home in Bellville where they raised three sons. Florence worked and retired from Austin County State Bank and Wells Fargo Bank in Bellville. She also did babysitting; she loved little children. She also enjoyed gardening, her flowers, and her cattle. She continued to raise cattle on her parents’ family farm in Burleigh through her later years. Florence is survived by her three sons and their wives: David Earl Wendt and wife Linda of Burleigh community, Carrell James Wendt and wife Karen of Sealy, and Randy Ray Wendt and wife Judy of Askov, Minnesota; sister and brother-in-law Mabel Fay and Elroy Wiecker of Bleiblerville; seven grandchildren: Heath, Lytha, Aaron, Grant, Sean, Ellen, and Kayla; one step-grandchild; ten great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; other family and friends; and special friend and caregiver Andrea Henrion. Florence is preceded in death by her parents Paul and Alvina, husband Earl on January 25, 1976, her twin sister at birth, brother and sister-in-law Leroy and Lola (Crawford) Hoff, and great-grandson Anthony Radloff. Visitation will be Monday, January 13, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Knesek Funeral Chapel in Bellville. Kenneth Royce Korthauer
Kenneth Royce Korthauer, 70, of Brenham, died Jan. 10, 2014, in College Station. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastors Phil Fenton and Kindlee Lund officiating. Emmett Lehmann
Emmett Lehmann, 79, of Brenham, died peacefully in his sleep on Jan. 9, 2014, at his residence. Visitation with the family will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Phil Fenton and Kindlee Lund officiating. A private burial will be held for the family prior to the service. Milroy Kessler
Milroy Kessler was born March 7, 1923 in Burton to Paul and Lizzie (Klaus) Kessler. He went to be with the Lord on January 7, 2014 at the age of 90. Linda Stevens
Linda Stevens, age 67 of Brenham, passed away Monday, January 6, 2014. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 11 in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Rev. Karen Nelson officiating. Linda was born September 4, 1946 in Wartrace, TN to Hollis and May (Freemann) Bell. Linda was a founding member of Bellville Hospital Auxiliary, managed an antique shop, a Vitamin Store and Payless shoe store. Her mentorship was with Texas A&M students who were involved with Hospice Care education. Linda was preceded in death by her Parents as well as her sister Polly and brother Maurice. Loving family includes her sons Billy Stevens (wife Staci) of Argyle, Craig Stevens (wife Sandy) of Katy and Richard Stevens of Austin; 4 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brother Tommy Bell of Lufkin; brother Larry Bell of Anderson and sister Janice of Rosebud.
