Paul Charles Newton
Born in Austin, TX on Sep. 1, 1948

Child of God, Paul Charles Newton, looked into the smiling face of his Lord on Saturday, June 19, 2004.
Paul was born in Austin, Texas, on September 1, 1948, and is preceded in death by parents, Eldon and Rebecca Newton. From childhood, Paul was nurtured by caregivers at Austin, Travis, Brenham and Richmond State Schools. Though separated by miles, Paul lived in the hearts of his parents and those who have survived him: brothers and their wives, Albert and Donna, and Tim and Maria, as well as many family members.
Although mentally challenged, Paul served his purpose for the Lord with his gentle spirit and sense of humor. A blessing on earth, Paul is rejoicing in heaven, whole and renewed, to the glory of God.
The graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24, in the Houston National Cemetery Chapel in Houston.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to: Parent Association for the Retarded of Texas (PART), Paul, Rebecca and Eldon Newton Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 9733, Austin, TX 78766-9733.

Lillie Mae (Draehn) Schmidt
October 13, 1928 - December 5, 2008
Lillie Mae (Draehn) Schmidt, 80, of Brenham went to meet her Lord on Friday, December 5, 2008 at College Station Medical Center.
The oldest of twelve children, she was born October 13, 1928 to Willie and Selma Emshoff Draehn. Lillie Mae was baptized November 19, 1928 by Rev. Wm. Utesch and confirmed April 18, 1943 by Rev. A. J. Mohr at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem. On April 22, 1950 she was united in marriage to Willie H. Schmidt also at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, where she held her lifelong membership. Her hobbies were crocheting, quilting and spending time with her precious grandchildren. They were the love of her life. Lillie Mae was a very loving and caring person, always wanting to help others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jimmy Draehn, nephew William Draehn, sister-in-law Margaret Draehn, mother-in-law and father-in-law Willie and Rosa Henson Schmidt, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Margaret and Milton Sawyer and nephew Butch Sawyer.
Her loving family includes: her husband of 58 years Willie Schmidt; sons Roy William Schmidt and Darrell Wayne Schmidt and wife Michelle; daughter Janice Lynn Hanath and husband Bradley; grandsons Brandon, Wyatt and Austin Hanath; step-grandchildren Matt Wise and Sarah Wise; step-great-grandchildren Haley and Madison Wise, Trae and Mylo Reeves; brothers and sisters-in-law Willie and Marjorie Draehn, Roger and Joyce Draehn, Glenn Draehn, Elwood and Deloris Draehn, Lee and Hanna Draehn, Luther and Evelyn Draehn, Gene and Jo Ann Draehn, Allan and Peggy Draehn; sisters and brothers-in-law Dianne and Ted Sager, Geraldine and Edward Rybarski, along with nieces, nephews and cousins,
Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday, December 8 at Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 9 in Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem with Rev. Charles H. Parnell and Rev. Lydia Paterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers are Craig Sager, Todd Sager, Troy Draehn, Royce Draehn, Patrick Draehn, Scott Rybarski, Keith Draehn and David Draehn. Honorary pallbearers are Maxine and Bert Miles, Shirley and Willie Schwartz, Delores Naumann, Edna Boecker, Jo Ann Stafford and Roe and Sue Weinschenk.
Memorials may be given to Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Salem.

Donald R. (Butch) Broecker
Born in Brenham, TX on May 25, 1942
Departed on Jan. 15, 2005 and resided in Brenham, TX.

Donald Ray (Butch) Broecker, 62 of Brenham, died January 15, 2005 in College Station. He was born May 25, 1942 in Brenham to Erwin “Boots” & Lula (Lueckemeyer) Broecker.
He was baptized in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham and later confirmed in the same church. Donald is a 1960 graduate of Brenham High School and he attended Texas A&M; University. On February 10, 1968 he married Glennette Meyer in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brenham, and a member of the BPOE979 Past Exalted Ruler. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Seabee’s from 1961 to 1967.
He started his employment with his father, “Boots” Broecker in Broecker Construction Company and he later owned Broecker Woodworks. For twelve years he was in the insurance business as a catastrophe claims adjuster working all over the United States, dealing with such things as the earthquakes in California, hurricanes in Florida and into the East coast, and floods into the mid-west.
The joy of his life was his family and especially his grandchildren. He was a supporter of the Washington County Fair Youth program especially for the Junior Livestock Auction.
Survivors include his wife, Glennette Broecker of Brenham, his daughters & sons in law, Leigh & Edward Phillips of College Station, Tiffany & Brian Komanetsky of San Antonio, grandchildren, Travis and Sydney Phillips of College Station, Seth and Maya Komanetsky of San Antonio, mother, Lula Broecker of Clear Lake, sisters, Shirley Joswiak of Seguin, Debbie Jasinski of Clear Lake and numerous other relatives.
He is preceded by his father, Erwin “Boots” Broecker, his sister, Patsy Schlict and brother in law, Richard “Skippy” Joswiak.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, at Memorial Oaks Chapel
The funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2005 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father David Ivey, Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Billie Pieper, Herman Borchardt, Frank Rybarski, Fred Kessel, Gene LaFleur and Jimmy Hahn, Jr.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main St. Brenham.

Rita Christiansen
February 20, 1942 - December 6, 2008
Rita Christiansen, age 66 of Brenham, passed away Saturday, December 6, 2008 at her home.
Rita was born February 20, 1942 in Pattison, MS to Hiram Earl and Louie (Summers) Pierce. On December 12, 1959 she married Marvin Christiansen. Rita retired from Texas Instruments after 33 years of employment. Rita was faithful in caring for Marvin’s aunts, Gussie Woodcock and Eleanor Nau, until their deaths. Rita was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby. She was involved with The Bold and Beautiful Babes of Brenham Red Hat Club, Citizens on Patrol, volunteered for Hospice, and enjoyed casino trips and computer games.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, brother Hiram Earl Pierce, Jr., great-niece Kristie Lynn Mitchell, sister-in-law Vernell Kruemcke, brothers-in-law James and Charles Christiansen and Marvin’s uncle Hermann Liebscher.
Rita is survived by: sister Elsie Tremie and husband James of Houston, TX; sister-in-law Juanita Pierce of Brandon, MS; niece Katrina Bounds and husband Kelly of Mexia, TX and their children Danielle Mitchell, John McClinton and Reagan Bounds; niece Felicia Burgess and husband Doug of West Columbia, TX and their children Laurin, Elayna and Alyssa Burgess; nephew Chris Tremie and fiancé Ariel Wilson of Conroe, TX and children Cade and Reagan Tremie; aunts Marie Hynum, Addell Hall and Wyland Cain all of MS, Louise Jessen of Beaumont, TX and Jennie Rife of Roswell, NM; uncles James and George Robbins of Port Arthur, TX and numerous cousins; also survived by her husband’s family: nieces, Brenda Kruemcke, Kathy Roberts and husband Steve, Clara Fry and husband Chuck of Virginia; nephews Charles Christiansen and wife Lynn of Conroe, TX, James Christiansen and wife Kathy of Houston, TX, Roy Kruemcke and wife Laura of Giddings, TX and Vincent Kruemcke and wife Donna of Houston and numerous of great-nieces, great nephews and cousins; special friends Lupe and Amanda Rios; and her Pomeranian “girls” Mandy and Sassy.
Rita was much loved by all of us. She was fun loving, giving and a wonderful sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She will be missed.
Visitation with family will be from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, December 9 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 10 in Brenham Memorial Chapel with Pastor Linda Mosley officiating. Interment will follow in Giddings City Cemetery.

Leonard (Len) Stom
February 5, 1925 - December 13, 2008
Leonard “Len” Stom, 83 of Brenham, joined Jesus Saturday, December 13, 2008.
He was born February 5, 1925 in Electra, Texas to W.M. and Catherine (Baggett) Stom. He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Len served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and Korean War. On June 15, 1946, he married Carrie Lambert in Houston. Len was employed by The Methodist Hospital, Houston and retired as Vice President. He was a member of Cornerstone Christian Center. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.
He was preceded in death by parents, son Kurt Stom and wife Sylvia, brother W. M. Stom, Jr. and wife Ella Mae, sister Marzie Frantz and husband John.
Survivors include: wife of 62 years Carrie Stom of Brenham; son Leonard Stom, Jr. of Brenham; daughter Karen Wasserman and husband Jon of Katy; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation with the Stom family will be 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 16 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00, Wednesday, December 17 in Cornerstone Christian Center with Rev. Floyd Key officiating. Burial will follow in Atkinson Cemetery, Chappell Hill.
Pallbearers will be Vic Ignasiak, Kent Huggins, John Paul Cruz, Kaylor Coonse, Jim Carmichael and Roy Way.
Memorials may be given to Cornerstone Christian Center, 906 West Stone Street, Brenham, TX 77833.

Edmond Krolczyk
July 7, 1937 - April 18, 2009
Edmond Krolczyk, 71 of Chappell Hill, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2009.
Edmond was born July 7, 1937 in Chappell Hill to Michael and Agnes (Strenk) Krolczyk. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Edmond worked at Brenham Livestock Auction for many years. He enjoyed being around family and friends. He always had a smile on his face and laughter in his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, two brothers and two brothers-in-law.
Survivors include: sisters, Hattie Boratynski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Pauline Thomas and husband Lee of Spring, Nancy Kalstad of Austin; brother Paul Krolczyk of Chappell Hill, sister-in-law, Janie Krolczyk; special niece, Diane Roese, who took special care of him through the years; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21 in Brenham Memorial Chapel.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 22 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Chappell Hill with Rev. Vincent Chacko as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Alphonse Krolczyk, Jr., Bobby Krolczyk, Daniel Krolczyk, Johnnie Ray Krolczyk, Kevin Kalstad and Melvin Krolczyk. Honorary pallbearers are Bubba Krolczyk, Hunter Krolczyk, Mark Roese, Matt Krolczyk, Ronald Paul Jankowiak and Vincent Krolczyk, Jr.

Born in Coryell County, TX on Jul. 8, 1913
Departed on Feb. 20, 2005 and resided in Brenham, TX.

Otha McKinzie, 94, of Brenham, died Feb. 20, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mr. McKinzie was born July 8, 1910, in Coryell County, Texas, to Jasper Walter and Katie Bell Ward McKinzie.
In 1931, he married Nell Farmer. Mr. McKinzie was a retired master electrician in the Houston area.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bobby M. and Bobbie McKinzie of Brenham; grandchildren, Elizabeth A. McKinzie of Brenham, Bobby M. McKinzie II and wife Melea of Elizabeth, Colorado, and David A. McKinzie of Brenham; four great-grandchildren, Bradley Adam McKinzie, Jay Daniel McKinzie, Nikki R. McKinzie and Blaise A. McKinzie; one great-great-grandson, Tanner J. McKinzie; sister and brother-in-law, Wanda L. and Gene Landrum of Shreveport, Louisiana; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell McKinzie; parents, Katie Bell and Jasper Walter McKinzie; and brother, Walter McKinzie.
The family will receive visitors at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23.
A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 in Osage Cemetery in Osage, Coryell County, TX.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandson; and nephew, Billy Walter McKinzie and wife, Inez McKinzie.
Service arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
