LaVerda Neinast Ebel, 78, of the Longpoint Community, and the widow of Claude D. Ebel, died Saturday at the Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mrs. Ebel was born November 15, 1926, in the Longpoint Community of Washington County, Texas, to Edwin H. and Lenora Wilkening Neinast. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Mrs Ebel was a graduate of Somerville High School and Durham Business College.
On June 20, 1948, she was married to Claude D. Ebel in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Reverend Arthur R. Wolber. Mrs. Ebel retired as the Secretary to the Director of the Internal Revenue Service in Houston. She was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Her favorite recreational activity was bowling.
Survivors include her sister, Elois Glover of the Longpoint Community; nephew and niece, Jimmy & Peggy Glover of League City, TX; great nephew and niece, Michael Glover & Melissa Glover of League City, TX; and a great-great-niece, Madelyn Glover of League City, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister, Carolyn Neinast; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence & Ruth Neinast and brother-in-law, James Glover.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
The funeral service for LaVerda Ebel will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg with Pastor Larry Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Glover, Kenneth Ladewig, H. L. Neinast, H. R. Neinast, Irvin Rosenbaum and Walker (Bubba) Scott.
Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg or to your favorite charity.

Mildred Anna Hough, 56, of Brenham, died August 30, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Miss Hough was born June 17, 1949, in Houston, TX, to Loren Kenneth and Ferne M. Hadberg Hough.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Sondra and Phil Pleasant of Houston.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6 in Brenham State School Chapel with Chaplain Jim Ferguson officiating.
The graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Becky Lynn Clay, 48, of Brenham, died Sept. 25, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mrs. Clay was born May 1, 1957, in Brenham, to George D. and Barbara Mendell Maynard. She was a graduate of Brenham High School.
On May 1, 1991, she was married to James S. Clay. Mrs. Clay was an assembler at Trepan Tools and was a supporter of Marine Moms.
Survivors include her husband, James S. Clay of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, Brandon and Kelli Maynard of Houston, Brian and Misty Maynard of Brenham and Chris Maynard of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeniffer and Charles Davidson and Crystal and David Martinez, all of Brenham; three grandchildren; her father, George Maynard and wife Mildred of Kenney; her mother, Barbara Schroeder and husband Wesley of Anderson; brothers and sisters-in-law, George “Duncan” and Rhonda Maynard of West Virginia and Howard and Lorinda Maynard of Brenham; father-in-law and mother-in-law, T.C. and Leigh Ruth Clay of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David Jones and Patti Clay, Finney M. and Donna Clay and Tommy and Florence Clay, all of Brenham.

Bennie Goebel

Bennie Goebel, 86, of Shelby, died Aug. 27, 2005, at his residence with his wife, Hertha, by his side.
Bennie was born April 21, 1919, in the Shelby community, to Rudolph and Paula Schucany Goebel. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, where he was a lifelong member. Bennie attended Shelby School and served his country in the Air Force during World War II.
On May 26, 1946, he married Hertha Meischen in Warrenton Lutheran Church. Bennie was blessed to be able to spend his entire life in the Shelby community, where he and Hertha were partners in their dairy and farming operation. Due to his wife’s dedication and loving assistance, Bennie was able to live at home until his death. Bennie was a charter member of Shelby American Legion, Hermann Sons Lodge #28, Shelby VFD and Harmonie Hall. Hunting, fishing and baseball games were his favorite pastimes.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Hertha Goebel of Shelby; his children and their spouses, Carol and Ron Goehring of Round Top, Glenda and David Luedeker of Navasota, Gary and Joan Goebel of Carmine and Rodney and Diann Goebel of Shelby.
Papa was very proud of his grandchildren, Blake and Christie Goehring, Laura and Chad Hesters, Stacy and Clint Eilers, Luke and LeAnn Luedeker, Gretchen and Brian Peterson, Clay and Jamie Goehring, Garrison Goebel, Lyle Luedeker and fiancée Mary Thiel, Haley Goebel and Reese Goebel. Great-grandchildren are Ryker and Kannyn Goehring, Kate Eilers, Morgan Hesters, Ainsley Goehring and Hope Luedeker.
Surviving relatives include his sister, Wilma Wunderlich; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis Rudloff, Lydia Weinert, Gladys and Alfred Baack and Regina Albert; and caregiver, Jackie Richter.
Numerous nieces and nephews fondly remember visiting with Uncle Bennie.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anita Rudloff; and brother, John Goebel.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby with burial to follow at Shelby Cemetery. Pastor Pamela Werrell will officiate.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 in Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Papa’s grandchildren are honored to serve as pallbearers. Spouses of his grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers.

Dennis William Schomburg, Jr., 82, of Brenham, died Oct. 1, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mr. Schomburg was born Aug. 25, 1923, in Brenham, TX, to Dennis William Sr. and Margaret Eckardt Schomburg. He was baptized Jan. 6, 1924, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham and was confirmed April 10, 1938, in the same church. Mr. Schomburg was a graduate of Brenham High School, Blinn College and attended the University of Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman third class.
On Dec. 8, 1946, he was married to Doris Stern in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. Mr. Schomburg served as charter member, past commander and quartermaster of James F. Dillon Post 7104 VFW. He was a member of the American Legion and Scottish Rite, charter member of Goodfellows and life member and past master of Graham Lodge No. 20 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham. He was retired from TFE Co.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Schomburg of Brenham; two sons, Mike Schomburg of Fort Worth and David Schomburg of Brenham; and a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Anne Schomburg of Brenham.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade and Pastor Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.

Oran Fred Neutzler, 81, of Brenham, died Sept. 26, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mr. Neutzler was born Oct. 30, 1923, in Burton, Texas, to Otto J. and Hedwig Krause Neutzler. He was baptized March 4, 1924, in Greenvine and was confirmed April 10, 1938 in Greenvine. He attended Boundary School and served in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1948 until 1950.
Mr. Neutzler was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine, the La Bahia Turn Verein and the VFW. He was a retired plumber for Wittner Plumbing.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Elmer and Lillie Neutzler and Wilburn “Gabby” Neutzler, all of Brenham; a sister-in-law, Erna Mae Neutzler of Somerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine with Pastor Pam Werrell officiating. Burial will be in the La Bahia Cemetery.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Raymond “Buck” Steinfeld, Sr., 83, of Brenham, died Sept. 20, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mr. Steinfeld was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Washington County, Texas, to Charlie and Lillie Gaskamp Steinfeld. He was baptized June 11, 1922, at Zionsville and was confirmed Sept. 19, 1937, at Rehburg.
On Nov. 1, 1956, he married Ella Mae Niemeyer. Mr. Steinfeld’s life was spent, as he was raised, working on a farm. Most notably, he farmed for Herbert and Willie Winkelmann and Gilbert Janner.
Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Steinfeld of Brenham; children, Patricia and Jerry Schwartz, Mary and Randy Sklar, Clarence and Carolyn Steinfeld, Ray Allen Steinfeld, Judy Steinfeld and husband Larry Autrey and Janice Steinfeld, all of Brenham; grandchildren, Troy Schwartz, Teresa and Gus Gualito, Jennifer Schwartz, Jessica and Samuel Garcia, Lexi Sklar, Leann Steinfeld and special friend Michael Long, Cody Steinfeld and Cory Steinfeld; great-grandchildren, Ashlea Schwartz, Jasmine Schwartz and Anthony Garcia; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charlie and Gladys Steinfeld and Leroy and Emma Belle Steinfeld, all of Brenham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carrie Mae and Raymond Wellmann, Rosalie Wunderlich and Leatrice Kapchinski, all of Brenham; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ben and Dorothy Niemeyer, Lydia Lange and Annie Dahmann, all of Brenham; and many, many friends and relatives.

We will greatly miss our husband, daddy and Popo, but there are so many memories he leaves for us: his tremendous love and joy for his grandchildren, deer hunting with the guys, picking and shelling pecans and his love of the military. But it will be his story-telling that we will always remember.
