Harold Roger Kuhlmann, 68, of Brenham, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2005, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan after a long courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Mr. Kuhlmann was born October 31, 1936, in the Phillipsburg Community, Washington County, Texas, to Edwin and Nelda Riechers Kuhlmann. He was baptized November 26, 1936, by Pastor C. P. Haaskarl and confirmed March 18, 1951, by Pastor H. Burnotte at St Pauls Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. He attended the Washington County public school at Wonder Hill and graduated from Spring Branch High School in Houston.
On September 18, 1960, Harold married May Dell Hinze in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham by Reverend Theo R. Streng. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem where he served on the Church Council. He had been employed by Brenham Office Supply for 32 years. His favorite pastime was fishing and spending time with his granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, May Dell Hinze Kuhlmann; son & daughter-in-law, Keith and Tricia Kuhlmann; sister & brother-in-law, Margaret & Melvin Tiemann; mother-in-law, Almeida Hinze; brother-in-law & sisters-in-law, Ruth & Edward Schulte, and Dorothy Hahn; granddaughter, Chelsea Lyn Kuhlmann, all of Brenham and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Howard Kuhlmann, Sr.; father-in-law, Herbert Hinze; brother-in-law, Floyd Hahn and sister-in-law, Doris Kuhlmann Daniels.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 13 in St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Sid Bohls officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Monday, September 12 in Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Rudy Tiemann, Bishop Ray Tiemann, Ralph Tiemann, Jerry Moreno, Roger Gaskamp, Glenn Flentge, Kevin Schulte and Howard Kuhlmann, Jr.
Memorials may be given to St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem or to a charity of choice.

Melvin H.E. Schulze

Melvin H. E. Schulze left this earthly kingdom on October 18, 2005, at Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. He attained the age of 82 years.
Melvin was born on June 15, 1923, in the Shelby community, the oldest of Herbert and Frida Reuter Schulze. He was baptized in his parents’ home on October 14, 1923 by Pastor M.C. Hoermann and confirmed on September 13, 1936 by Pastor Julies Bosshard at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelby, Texas.
Melvin attended Shelby and Rockhouse Schools and worked on the family farm until his call to military service in February, 1943. He served in the Central Europe campaign and remained after the war’s end to serve in the Army Intelligence Corps in Austria for another 18 months.
It was during his service in Salzburg, Austria that he met Katherina Rebel, an Austrian government employee. Shortly thereafter they were married in Salzburg by a government official.
After completing his assignment in Europe, they returned to the United States in November, 1947 and settled in the Shelby community. Melvin lived his entire life on the farm he purchased while serving in Europe.
Melvin was never satisfied with doing just one aspect of farming and engaged in row crops, poultry, hogs, custom work, and in later years, he enjoyed his herd of cattle.
In 1966 he received the honor of being chosen Comeback Farmer of the Year. He served as director of West End Water Supply Corp. for 10 years, served as president of the Shelby Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of American Legion Post #602 and Sons of Hermann Post #28. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelby, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Katherina, a loving and supporting partner for 58 years; brother, Burnie Schulze of Shelby; sister, Verline Schlabach and husband Roy of Shelby; nieces and nephews, Dr. Darrell and Diane Schulze of W. La Fayette, Indiana, Roger and Evon Schulze of Brenham, Mark and Lisa Schulze of Magnolia, Dr. Michael and Karla Schlabach of College Station and Sheryl and Dennis Durfey of Smithville.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Frida Schulze; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andreas and Magdalena Rebel; brother-in-law, Joseph Rebel; and sister-in-law, Burdine Schulze.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Greenvine, with Pastor Pamela Werrell officiating. Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 in Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Alfred Eckermann, Jr., Terry Rudloff, Kenneth Hetzel, Arlie Eckermann, Cliff Rudloff and Ryan Aschenbeck.
All nephews and nieces will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be given to the building fund at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shelby, or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
LaVerda Neinest Ebel
Born in Longpoint Community, Washington County, TX on Nov. 15, 1926

LaVerda Neinast Ebel, 78, of the Longpoint Community, and the widow of Claude D. Ebel, died Saturday at the Trinity Medical Center in Brenham.
Mrs. Ebel was born November 15, 1926, in the Longpoint Community of Washington County, Texas, to Edwin H. and Lenora Wilkening Neinast. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Mrs Ebel was a graduate of Somerville High School and Durham Business College.
On June 20, 1948, she was married to Claude D. Ebel in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Reverend Arthur R. Wolber. Mrs. Ebel retired as the Secretary to the Director of the Internal Revenue Service in Houston. She was a life member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Her favorite recreational activity was bowling.
Survivors include her sister, Elois Glover of the Longpoint Community; nephew and niece, Jimmy & Peggy Glover of League City, TX; great nephew and niece, Michael Glover & Melissa Glover of League City, TX; and a great-great-niece, Madelyn Glover of League City, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sister, Carolyn Neinast; brother and sister-in-law, Clarence & Ruth Neinast and brother-in-law, James Glover.
The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
The funeral service for LaVerda Ebel will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 12 in St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg with Pastor Larry Henrichs officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery.

Joe Ella “Sis” Fairbanks Wegner, 80, of the Clay community, died May 7, 2005, at the family residence.
Mrs. Wegner was born January 12, 1925, in the Clay community to John Franklin and Rosa Lee Farquhar Fairbanks. She received her education in the Clay public school and Brenham High School.
On July 20, 1973, she was married to Alfred Wegner in Independence, Texas. Mrs. Wegner was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother.

Russell C. Coile, Jr.
November 5, 1943 - November 10, 2003

Russell Cleven Coile, Jr., one of the nation's top healthcare management consultants, died Nov. 10, 2003, of complications from brain cancer. He was 60.
Coile was a pioneering health futurist, spotting trends and advising hospitals, physicians' groups and health plans across the country for more than two decades. In 2002, he was named one of the top 100 health leaders in America by Modern Healthcare magazine.
Coile has written 10 books, including “The New Hospital” (1986) in which he urged doctors and healthcare executives to prepare for developments from the rise of managed care to the aging of the population to the consolidation of the hospital industry. In “The Paperless Hospital, ” (2002) he encouraged hospitals to use Internet-based technologies to reduce costs and reinvent healthcare delivery.
Coile was also the author of “Futurescan, ” the award-winning annual report on industry trends sponsored by the American Hospital Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. For the last 15 years, he published a monthly newsletter, “Russ Coile's Health Trends.”
Coile gave more than 50 seminars and speeches annually to national healthcare organizations and clients including Fortune 500 firms.
He was the past president of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development of the American Hospital Association and received their annual award for professional excellence in 2003. He served on the boards of the Center for Health Design and the Public Health Institute, as well as on the editorial advisory boards of several publications, including Managed Care Outlook, Nurse Week and Healthcare Market Strategist.
Before forming his own consulting firm, The Health Forecasting Group, Coile established the industry's first corporate futures program as director of the Center for Health Management Research at the Lutheran Hospital Society of Southern California.
A serious distance runner, he finished 43 marathons and 17 ultra-marathons, including the Western States 100-mile Endurance Run. He was an avid golfer and fan of hot-rod cars and trucks.
Coile earned a B.A. from the Johns Hopkins University and an M.B.A. in Health Services Administration from the George Washington University, where he was selected as “Alumni of the Year” in 2002.
Born and raised near Annapolis, Maryland, he worked as a regional health planner and healthcare consultant in Minneapolis, the San Francisco Bay area, Los Angeles and Dallas. In 2001, he and his wife, Nancy, moved to the town of Washington in the rolling hills of central Texas.
Coile had been battling brain cancer for seven months, but continued giving speeches and writing until just two weeks before his death. He died Monday afternoon at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Bryan, Texas, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, Peg Wallace of Annapolis; father, Russell Coile Sr., of Pacific Grove, CA; daughter, Courtney Coile of Sudbury, MA; son, Zachary Coile of Washington, D.C.; step daughters, Amanda and Ariel Angelotti of Austin, TX; brothers, Chris Coile of Stevensville, MD, Jon Coile of Severna Park, MD, and Andrew Coile of Pacific Grove; sister, Jennifer Coile of Hollister, CA; and a grandson, Nathaniel Roman of Sudbury.
A celebration of his life is planned for 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 at the Brenham Country Club in Brenham, TX.

Florence Oranell Bormann Draehn, a resident of Brenham Nursing Home was called home to the Lord on Saturday morning, September 12, 2015.
