Richard Esparza
Richard Esparza, 68, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998.
A Christian wake will be 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Hector Medina, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Downtown.
Mr. Esparza was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Arkansas City, Kan. He and Irene Garcia were married July 16, 1958, in Wichita Falls. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. The Knights of Columbus and Santo Nombre. He was on the board of Community Action Corp. and was a founder of the Wichita Falls Chapter of the Mexican-Americans . He was a former reserve deputy sheriff of Wichita County and served in the Army and the Air Force. He was a photo lithographer in Civil Service for 38 years at Sheppard Air Force Base and retired in 1988. He had lived in Wichita Falls since 1956.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Vicki Alexander and Pamela Esparza-Barrow, both of Iowa Park; a son, Richard Esparza II of Wichita Falls; seven sisters, Amelia Perez of Chanete, Kan., Jenny Orozco of Topeka, Kan., Nellie Rodrigues of Omaha, Neb., Sally Shuff and Pat Nurse, both of Baker, La., Louise Armentia of Kansas City, Kan., and Joann Jensen of Union City, Calif.; three brothers, Daniel and Jesse, both of Kansas City, and Charles of Corydon, Ind.; and three grandchildren.

Elaine Young
Elaine Kitzenberger Young, 79, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in a local hospice center.
Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at University Methodist Church Chapel with Dr. Larry George and the Rev. Merwin Turner officiating.
Mrs. Young was born Sept. 9, 1919, in St. Joseph, Mo. She and the Rev. Leland H. Young were married Aug. 25, 1942. He died in 1987. They lived in rural Douglas County in East Centeral Kansas where they members of Stull Evangelical Church. She was principle violist of the Wichita Falls Symphony for 26 years before retiring. She was a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary in Wichita Falls and Nocona, Maids & Matrons and the Home Extension Club. She was also a volunteer at the library, Rolling Meadows and area nursing homes. She was named “Woman of the Year” by Nocona Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of North Central College in 1940 with a bachelor of arts in music education. She served numerous churches as a organist for 55 years. She had been a resident of Rolling Meadows since 1993.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Warren D. of Wichita Falls, and Roland Bruce of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Dorothy Iwig of Brenham, Texas; and two granddaughters.
Memorials may be made to the Music Ministry of University United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls or Hospice.

Curtis Milton LaFon
Curtis Milton LaFon, 59, of Wichita Falls died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Gene Browder, pastor of Grant Street United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mr. LaFon was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Wichita Falls. He served in the Navy for 20 years, was a radio operator and received the good conduct medal before retirement as a chief petty officer in 1976. He was a truck driver for a local construction company and was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Hellen Z. LaFon; his mother, June Pond of Wichita Falls; a son, Eddie LaFon of San Mateo, Calif.; two sisters, Veda Blake of Wichita Falls and Jeanine Miller of Arlington, Texas; and a brother, Raymond LaFon of San Angelo, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, P.O. Box 4804, Wichita Falls, Texas 76308.
Visitation at 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kiersten N. Wilson
Kiersten Natasha Wilson, 12, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Mike Rucker, pastor of Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Kiersten was born Sept. 4, 1986, in Wichita Falls. She was a student at Cunningham Elementary School. She was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her parents, Denise Skinner and Earl Wilson, both of Wichita Falls; a brother, Kyle Wayne of the home; a sister, Shabecca of the home; her maternal grandparents, Larry and Sharon Skinner of Wichita Falls; and her paternal grandparent, Wanda Scarlott of Wichita Falls.
Memorials may be made to Cunningham School-Special Education Department, 4107 Phillips, Wichita Falls, Texas 7630.

Pablo ‘Paul’ Garcia
KNOX CITY, Texas – Pablo “Paul” Garcia, 55, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in a Knox County hospital.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home. Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Knox City with the Rev. Rigoberto Contreras of the Assembly of God Church in Seymour, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Knox City Cemetery.
Mr. Garcia was born June 15, 1943, in Berclair, Texas. He and Olivia Longoria were married Dec. 3, 1962, in Beeville, Texas. He moved to Knox City from Beeville in 1963. He was a roustabout for oil companies, was a Pentecostal and a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Bobby, Freddy, Pablo III and Raul, all of Knox City; three daughters, Teresa Ramos, Sylvia Garcia and Ashley Garcia, all of Knox City; his mother, Guadalupe Guerrero of Knox City; three brothers, Felix of Austin, Frank of Knox City and Richard of O’Brien, Texas; four sisters, Juanita Garcia and Eva Cuerra, both of Beeville, and Imelda Rodriquez and Irene Lankford, both of Knox City; and six grandchildren.
The family will be at 507 Aspen in Knox City.

Joseph W. Schmittou
JACKSBORO, Texas -- Joseph Weldon Schmittou, 75, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Coker Funeral Home with Bro. Norman Rushing officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Schmittou was born May 4, 1923, in Post Oak, Texas. His wife, Anna Mae Schmittou, died Oct. 30, 1980. He and Beulah Franklin were married in November 1982. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He worked in the Oil Field for Mitchell Energy and was a gardener.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Sikes of Galveston, Texas, and LaDonna Helms of Stephenville, Texas; two sons, Jimmy Don Schmittou of Stephenville and Carroll Ray Franklin of Weatherford, Texas; two sisters, Gladys Haley of Post Oak, Texas, and Velma Lee Price of Duncan, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

Dennis James Loafman
Dennis James Loafman, 20, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Holliday, Texas, Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Bartlett, pastor of Anchor Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Loafman was born March 10, 1978, in Wichita Falls. He was a construction painter. He attended Rider and Wichita Falls High School. He was a Baptist and a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include his parents, Darrell J. and Pamela Jeanne of Wichita Falls; a sister, Billye Adrian of Wichita Falls; and his grandparents, Jim and Pat O’Brien of Wichita Falls and Mr. and Mrs. John Kirk of Wichita Falls.

Rossetta D. Mitchell
Rossetta Deanne Mitchell, 50, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, in a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Good Shepherd with the Rev. Bob Landback, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mitchell was born July 19, 1948, in Tyler, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Survivors include three sons, Kevin Scott, Gary Wayne and Ben Cameron, all of Dallas; a brother, Michael Turbeville of Tyler; and four grandchildren.

Viola Rutledge Smith
Viola Rutledge Smith, 102, of San Angelo, Texas, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Smith was born May 19, 1896. She was a Methodist. She was a former resident of Wichita Falls moving to San Angelo in 1991.
Survivors include a daughter, Thelma McMurtrey of San Angelo; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

Stanley Duane Manning
FREDERICK, Okla. – Stanley Duane “Bub” Manning, 48, of Tipton, Okla., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in a Altus hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Tipton with the Rev. Jim Corbin and the Rev. Troy Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Tipton Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home.
Mr. Manning was born Sept. 3, 1950, in Frederick, Okla. He and Janice F. Anderson were married in July 1969. She died Nov. 7, 1982. He was a graduate of Tipton High School in 1968 and attended Oklahoma University. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tipton.
Survivors include his parents, Speck and Nita Manning; a son, Lance of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Erine of Lawton, Okla.; and a sister, Terrie Calkins of Tipton.
Visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Tipton today from 9 a.m.-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or a favorite charity.

Willard Marsh
SEYMOUR, Texas – Willard Marsh, 82, of Seymour died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Seymour Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Marvin Griffin and the Rev. Tony Megee officiating. Burial will be in Henson Cemetery in Red Springs, Texas.
Mr. March was born June 8, 1916, in Newport, Texas. He and Vera Morgan Hardy were married May 29, 1946, in Iowa Park, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had lived in Olney, Texas, and Peaster, Texas, before moving to Seymour. He had been a oil field worker and service station attendant. He was employed by the Seymour Independent School District in the maintenance department, retiring in 1976. He was member of the Baptist Church. A son, Lonnie Marsh, died April 1, 1973.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Virginia Sullivan and Sharon Day, both of Electra, Texas, Laura Malcom of Holliday, Texas, Connie Speers of Peaster, and Jan Hill of Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Verlon and Dennis both of Seymour; a sister, Edna Lemond of Iowa Park; 20 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

Otie Bell Mayfield
WEINERT, Texas – Otie Bell Mayfield, 88, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 in Haskell.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Weinert Baptist Church with the Rev. Ross Anderson of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Weinert Cemetery under the direction of Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Mayfield was born Oct. 18, 1910, in Haskell County, Texas. Her husband, died Nov. 21, 1993. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Couilla Ferrell Cunningham of Ranson Canyon, Texas; a son, Tiffen Ray of Weinert; three sisters, Rita Hughes, Laverne of Weinert, and Lavera Hummel of Sterling, Ill.; two brothers, Rebus Guess of Haskell and H.L. Guess of Weinert; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will be at Tiffen Ray’s Mayfield’s house in Weinert.

Zella Irene Fields
ARCHER CITY, Texas -- Zella Irene Fields, 84, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in an Archer City nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Point Funeral Chapel with Lee Tillman officiating. Burial will be in Lynch Cemetery.
Ms. Fields was born March 17, 1914, in Bayson, Texas. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Joe, Jerry, L.C., Carl, and Jimmy; a brother, Dewey Cook; four sisters, Etta Mae, Vera Williams, Betty Harley, and Maria Lippincott; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
