Betty Sue ‘Fannin’ Wilson
HENRIETTA – Betty Sue (Fannin) Wilson, 48, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in a Wichita Falls hospice.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Clay County, Texas, with the Rev. Mary Cantrell, pastor of the Joy, Texas, United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson was born Sept. 14, 1950, in Big Springs, Texas. She and Steve Wilson were married June 21, 1968, in Big Springs. She was a member of the National Cushman Club of America, the Oklahoma Cushman Club and the Kansas Cushman Club. She was a secretary for Executive Services. She was a member of the National Thespian Association.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Steve of Sayre, Okla.; mother, Thelma Fannin of Big Spring, Texas; a brother, Elbert Fannin Jr. of Big Spring; two sisters, Jean McGuire of Plymouth, Minn., and Lynda James of Big Spring; grandfather, John McCartney of Colorado City, Texas; and a grandchild.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Dennis R. Shine
Dennis R. Shine, 56, of Hollywood, Fla., died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Ivor Koch, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughn Funeral Homes. A Christian wake will be at 7 p.m. at the Hampton Vaughan Downtown Chapel.
Mr. Shine was born March 3, 1942, in Wichita Falls. He served in the Marine Corps. He worked in sales for the past 35 years and was currently working for the Norwegian Cruise Line.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Schmitt of Wichita Falls; two sons, Ron Maning of Miami, Fla., and Dennis Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Dana Shine Staples of Atlanta; and a brother, Dan of Wichita Falls.

Sallie Jane Huffman
BRECKENRIDGE, Texas – Sallie Jane Huffman, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999 at a local hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Harper officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Mrs. Huffman was born Sept. 23, 1908, in Melrose, NM. She and Adra Huffman were married June 9, 1929, in Eastland, N.M. She grew up in Eastland County and graduated from DeLeon High School in 1926. She attended business school and worked at the county judge’s office in Eastland. She moved to Breckenridge in 1929, and was manager of the Huffman Clover Farm Grocery Store. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church of Breckenridge.
Survivors include two sons, R.E. “Bobby” of Sudbury, Mass., and M.E. “Eddie” of Wichita Falls; three daughters, Eloise Thompson of Tyler, Texas, Jane Lee of Arlington, Texas and Betty Fields of Breckenridge; three brothers, Frank Hatten of Waco, Texas, John Hatten of Odessa, Texas, and Ray Hatten of Cisco, Texas.; 12 grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Heritage Room of Morehart Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, the Stephens County Senior Citizens Center or the Wichita Falls First Baptist Church piano fund. They may be left at the funeral home.
Mabel E. Young
BURKBURNETT – Mabel E. Young, 96, of Burkburnett died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. John the Divine Episcopal Church of Burkburnett with the Rev. Deuel Smith of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church and the Rev. David Nyberg of Wichita Falls officiating. Burial will be in Burkburnett Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.
Mrs. Young was born Jan. 12, 1903, in Black Hawk, S.D. She and Ray N. Young were married June 27, 1922, in Lead, S.D. He died in 1963. She was a 1920 graduate of Rapid City, S.D. High School and was a member of the Evangelical Free Church of Rapid City. She was a member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church and was a lifetime member of Royal Neighbor Lodge. She was a homemaker and a family caretaker. She moved from Rapid City to Burkburnett in 1978 and spent several years in Thomson, Ga.
Survivors include a son, William F. Young of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Fern Maxwell of Burkburnett; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

B.G. ‘Ben’ Watson
B.G. “Ben” Watson, 82, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Howard Chapman, pastor of senior adults at First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mr. Watson was born Jan. 7, 1917, in Clarksville, Texas. He lived in Wichita Falls since 1945 and worked as a sheet metal worker for Wilson MFG for 30 years before retiring Feb. 1, 1979. He was a 32nd degree Mason and worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. He was active in Red Door Senior Citizens Center and was instrumental in organizing a bus ministry for First Baptist Church. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Lake Kickapoo Volunteer Fire Department. He had been a resident of Wichita Falls since 1945.
Survivors include two daughters, Naoma Riddle and Stella Wilson, both of Wichita Falls; a son, Kelly Watson of Wichita Falls; a sister, Eunice Collier of Nacogdoches, Texas; a brother, Roy Watson of Dean, Texas; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Will Sillemon
CROWELL, Texas – Will Sillemon, 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in a Crowell nursing home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Crowell with the Rev. John L. Reece of Vernon and the Rev. Betty O’Neal, pastor of Brooks Chapel AME Church of Crowell, officiating. Burial will be in Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Womack Manard Funeral Home.
Mr. Sillemon was born Nov. 10, 1905, in Brazos County, Texas. He was a longtime resident of Crowell, was a member of Brooks Chapel AME Church and was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Mae Sillemon; eight daughters, Annie Thomas, Tracy Mageo and Wilma Coleman, all of Crowell, Ethel Cooper of Vernon, Eva Mae Neal of Seymour, Texas, Tammy Byrd of Wichita Falls, Joyce Gassaway of Wichita Falls and Abigail Casey of Dallas; four sons, Wallace of Electra, James of Seymour, Marvin of Berkeley, Calif., and Iziah of Dallas; two brothers, John Henry of Sacramento, Calif., and Leroy of Dallas; three sisters, Mary Lou Sillemon of California, Jessie Morris of Crowell and Lavada Gates of Dallas; 75 grandchildren; 150 great-grandchildren; and 40 great-great-grandchildren.

JACKSBORO, Texas – Clara May Mask, 83, of Jacksboro died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Jacksboro.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Coker Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Rothe officiating. Burial will be in Perrin, Texas, Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Mask was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Rienzi, Miss. She and William Glenn Mask were married Dec. 30, 1945. He died Feb. 10, 1997. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and worked for her husband.
Survivors include a son, Michael G. Mask of Jacksboro; a brother, John Sharpe Cromeans of Alabama; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Hamilton was born Dec. 13, 1951, in Wichita Falls. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of the Wichita Falls area.

Karl M. Gillespie
CHILDRESS, Texas – Karl M. Gillespie, 89, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Childress Cemetery with the Rev. Dennis Boylan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
Mr. Gillespie was born Oct. 13, 1909, in Cottle County, Texas. He and Jessie Smith were married April 7, 1929, in Childress. He was a farmer at Cee Vee, Texas, until 1945, when he moved to Childress. He then worked as a rural route carrier from 1946-1992 at Cee Vee, Texas.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Hildie of Derby, Kan.; three daughters, Donna Hawkins of Amarillo, Texas, Della Henry of Canyon, Texas, and Odessa Huff of Childress; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Billie Sue Johannsen
TULSA, Okla. – Billie Sue Johannsen, 58, of Tulsa died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Mrs. Johannsen was born Sept. 2, 1940, in Wichita Falls. After 30 years of service to the United States government, she retired from Southwestern Power Administration in 1995. She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the German American Society of Tulsa and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include her husband, A.M. “Joe”; two daughters, Dana Connella of De Ridder, La., and Jana of Tulsa; and a granddaughter.
Birdie Mae Hutto
Birdie Mae Hutto, 68, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Wichita Falls County Cemetery with the Rev. Gerald Bryant, pastor of First Pentecostal Church of God, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Hutto was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Corrall County. Her husband, Normal Hutto, died in 1985. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of God.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Newman, Carolyn Armstrong and Sharon Kay Farris, all of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Andrew and William Gurley, both of Dallas; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
George E. ‘Bill’ Thomas
OLNEY, Texas – George E. “Bill” Thomas, 83, of El Paso, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, in an El Paso hospital.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Newcastle Methodist Church in Newcastle, Texas, with the Rev. John Schular and Raymond Beard, both of Dallas, officiating. Burial will be in True Cemetery under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Thomas was born Nov. 11, 1915, in Newcastle. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre and received a purple heart. He was a retired salesman and buyer of men’s clothing. He was a member of the First Christian Church. He was a 1934 graduate of Newcastle High School. He attended North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. He was involved with the children’s mission at church. He had been a resident of El Paso since 1984, moving from California.
Survivors include two sisters, Pauline Davis of Mountain View, Calif., and Margaret Campbell of San Diego, Calif.; a niece, Dr. Virginia Thomas of San Antonio; and a nephew, Stephen Thomas of Denton.

OLNEY, Texas -- Linda L. “Tommie” Estridge, 91, of Olney died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in a Olney nursing home.

Mrs. Estridge was born Oct. 7, 1907, in Bowie. She and Adam Zackary Estridge were married July 16, 1925, in Wichita Falls. He died Jan. 15, 1983. She was a homemaker and a member of Hamilton Street Church of Christ. She was a lifetime resident of Olney.
Survivors include a son, Don of Olney; a sister, Sibble Deford of Lawndale, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Edna ‘Sissy’ Ware
Edna “Sissy” Ware, 83, of Wichita Falls died Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, in a Wichita Falls Hospice center.

Miss Ware was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Palestine, Texas. She was a retired bookkeeper for S.H. Kress Co. & T.G.& Y. She was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School and Draughans Business College. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. She had lived in Wichita Falls for 71 years.
Survivors include four sisters, Sara Ann Spinosa of Columbus, Miss., Oleta Kee, Frances Veal and Elizabeth Beck, all of Wichita Falls; and a brother, Bill of Wichita Falls.

Clyde Cooper Sr.
OKEMAH, Okla. – Clyde Wilton Cooper Sr., 72, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in his home near Okemah.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas, with Darrel Blevins officiating and Brian Quisenberry assisting. Burial will be in Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Okemah arrangements under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home.
Mr. Cooper was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Archer County, Texas. He and Lois Lavada Blevins were married in September 1944 in Fort Worth. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a retired oil field worker. He was a member of the First Christian Church and had lived in Seminole County, Okla., for 28 years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clyde Wilton Jr. of Las Vegas and Jackie Wade; a daughter, Ginger M. Freel of Oklahoma City; four brothers, Ed of Olney, Marvin T. of Archer, Don of Seminole, Okla., and Jerry Wayne of Byers, Texas; a sister, Patsy Clark of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Alice Pearl Holden
Alice Pearl Holden, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in an Athens, Texas, hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with the Rev. Eddie Holden and the Rev. John Hocker of Calvary Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Electra Cemetery.
Mrs. Holden was born Sept. 13, 1911, in Abbott, Texas. Her husband, James E. Holden, died Feb. 1, 1994. She was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of the Wichita Falls area. A son, Dwight A. Holden, died in 1965.
Survivors include a son, Edward M. of Palm Springs, Calif.; two daughters, Mickey Gray of Yuma, Ariz., and Elzora Davis of Tool, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Kristy Rose Krahl
ARCHER CITY-- Kristy Rose Krahl, 19, of Scotland, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999.
Concelebrated mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scotland with the Rev. David Kraeger, pastor, and the Rev. Chris Davis, chaplain of Notre Dame Schools in Wichita Falls, and the Rev. Bart Landwermeyer, assistant pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Keller, Texas officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home.
Miss Krahl was born Aug. 24, 1979, in Wichita Falls. She was a lifelong resident of Scotland. She attended Windthorst Schools. While attending school, she was on the volleyball team and was a state semi-finalist. She also was a member of the basketball, and softball teams, and was a member of the track and tennis teams. She was class treasurer her freshman and sophomore years. She was a member of the student council and president her senior year. She was involved in band and flag corps. She was class president and valedictorian of the class of 1997.
Her senior year she was voted most courteous and dependable and most studious. She received All State Academic Honors. She was voted Who’s Who in American High Schools all four years in a wide range of subjects. She participated in UIL events, including Number Sense, Spelling Prose, science, mathematics, calculator, and Ready Writing. She was in the One Act Play and was a PAL volunteer. She was in the Gifted and Talented Program and the National Honor Society, where she was an officer.
She was currently attending Midwestern State University where she was pursuing a pharmaceutical degree. She was on the Dean’s list each semester. She was employed at Park Plaza Pharmacy in Wichita Falls. She was a member of the SPECTRUM Program and was awarded numerous scholarships to Midwestern State University, including the Presidential Leadership Award, a Chemistry research scholarship, and was a member of the Student Ambassadors. She was engaged to be married to Tony Grogan of Wichita Falls.
Survivors include her parents, Richard and Evelyn of Scotland; two sisters, Debra Haehn of Archer City and Leanne Curtis of Iowa Park; a grandmother, Katherine of Wichita Falls.

Creola Myrtle Cone
RULE, Texas -- Creola Myrtle Cone, 87, of Abilene, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rule Cemetery with the Rev. J.R. Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley-Robison Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Cone was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Fort Worth. She was a homemaker. She grew up in Rule and attended school there. She moved to Abilene and lived there for the past 30 years.
Survivors include six sisters, Emma Glover, Mary Pyland and Hazel Hindman, all of Abilene, Laverne Lee of Fort Worth, Billie Adkins of Crane, Texas, and Joan Billings of Runaway Bay, Texas.
The family will be at the funeral home from noon to 1:30 p.m. today for visitation.
Lou Hancock-Helvey
GRAHAM, Texas -- Lou Hancock-Helvey, 60, of North Richland Hills, Texas, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, in a North Richland Hills hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Graham with the Rev. James C. Hill, pastor, and the Rev. Hubert Foust of Mineral Wells, Texas, officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Morrison Funeral Home.
Mrs. Helvey was born June 9, 1938, in Lyons, Kan. She and Jim Helvey were married Dec. 16, 1985. She lived in Graham many years before moving to the Metroplex in 1985. She was a certified paralegal, working in several offices in the Metroplex. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Graham. Her daughter, Lisa Edwards, died June 18, 1997.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Stacy Lewis of Graham; a son, Stan Hancock of Houston, Texas; a step-son, Jim Helvey of Graham; and five grandchildren.
