Richard C. Prassel dies
Richard C. "Dick" Prassel, 77, of Wichita Falls died Thursday, July 2, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Kipp Wolfe, pastor, and the Rev. Tom Lyda, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Benjamin, Texas, Cemetery under the direction of Hampton-Vaughn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 12, 1998, at the First United Methodist Church of Jourdanton, Texas
Mr. Prassel was born July 5, 1920, in Mason, Texas. He and Roma Gilbert were married Jan. 18, 1991, in Wichita Falls. He was raised in Fort Worth and San Antonio, where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army when World War II started and served with the 88th Infantry Division; the "Blue Devils," as the soldiers were called, formed the Army's first "all volunteer" division in the World War II era. During a battle in Italy, he suffered wounds that cost him a leg and earned him a Purple Heart. In later years, he served as the 88th Infantry Association's president. After he mustered out of the military, Mr. Prassel took a Civil Service job and became active with the First Baptist Church, the volunteer fire department, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Little League baseball, the Rotary Club, the American Legion, the chamber of commerce, the Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts in Jourdanton. He was also a church lay leader at Jourdanton's First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Jourdanton school board for 15 years, and served as board president for seven years. He also served on the Jourdanton City Council and was the town's municipal judge for 17 years, a job which earned him the nickname "Judge." Since 1993, he had lived in Wichita Falls, where he attended First Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Cromwell Davis of Houston, Mark Thomas Davis of San Antonio, and John of Dallas; a daughter, Doris Bingham of San Antonio; two step-daughters, Delight Clements of Wichita Falls and Angie Skoubis of Eloy, Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Wichita Falls, First Methodist Church of Jourdanton, or the Jourdanton Public Library.
Vetta Hensley Smith
JACKSBORO, Texas - Vetta Oleta Hensley Smith, 73, of Jacksboro died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Fort Worth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Coker Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Williams officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Joplin, Texas.
Mrs. Smith was born Jan. 23, 1925, in Joplin. She and Ellis L. Jack Smith were married March 27, 1946, in Fort Worth. She was a clerk at City Drug Store and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Norris of Lovettsville, Va.; a son, Jimmy of Jacksboro; her mother, Julia Hensley; a brother, Bill Hensley of Jacksboro; two sisters, Daisy Polk of Whitharrel, Texas, and Grace Bleeker of Santo, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
J.M. Duncan
LUBBOCK, Texas - J.M. Duncan, 70, of Wolfforth, Texas, died Monday, June 29, 1998, at a Lubbock hospital.
Services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Graham, pastor of Skyline Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
Mr. Duncan was born in Shannon, Texas. He and June Barrett were married June 16, 1947, in Amarillo, Texas. He moved to Wolfforth 25 years ago from Jacksboro, Texas. He was a truck driver for Furr Foods and retired from C.A. Tucker. He was a veteran of the Air Force and a member of Carlisle Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Gail Schenk of Scotland, Texas, Rhonda Ford of Bowie, Texas, Jamie Baack of Wolfforth, Mica Thomas of Brownwood, Texas, and Sharla Gallion of Lubbock; a brother, Willie of Paradise, Texas; a sister, Hattie Lee McFather of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Rex Don NesSmith
WAURIKA, Okla. - Rex Don NesSmith, 82, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at his Waurika home.
Graveside services with military honors will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Waurika Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Brown, pastor of First Assembly of God Church in Waurika, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Willis C. Worley and Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. NesSmith was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Sugden, Okla. He and Mildred Allen were married March 2, 1940, in Duncan, Okla. He grew up in Sugden and graduated from Sugden High School in 1935. After completing his education he joined the Army and served 24 years of active duty. He retired as a master sergeant in June 1959. He received the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, four bronze service stars and the Republic of Korea President of the Unit Citation. After his military service he worked for Civil Service in Lawton until his retirement in 1974. He moved to Hastings and later to Waurika in 1981.
Survivors include his wife; a son, William Dean of Houston; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
Lena Santos Martinez
KNOX CITY, Texas - Lena Santos Martinez, 90, died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at a Fort Worth nursing home.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. tonight at Smith Funeral Home with Julian Estrada officiating. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Santa Rosa Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Fagan and Julian Estrada officiating. Burial will be in Knox Cemetery.
Mrs. Martinez was born Nov. 12, 1907, in Eldorado, Texas. She and Dan Martinez were married Feb. 8, 1928, in Navarro County, Texas. He died July 31, 1970. She was a Catholic and a resident of Knox County for 54 years.
Survivors include three sons, Dan of La Crescenta, Calif., Rudy of Visalia, Calif., and Eddie of Long Beach, Calif.; five daughters, Eva Flores of Knox City, Eloise Maldanado of Fort Worth, Rita Kirkpatrick of Saginaw, Texas, Linda Jecha of Austin, Texas, and Alice Johnson of Fort Worth; a sister, Beatrice Rios of Wichita Falls; and a brother, Fermin Acosta of Long Beach.
Mattie Melvina Stell
Mattie Mae Melvina Skinner Stell, 81, of Wichita Falls died Friday, July 3, 1998, at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Crestview Memorial Park with the Rev. Don Hogan, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Nocona, Texas, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Stell was born April 16, 1917, in Fleetwood, Okla. She and William Robert Stell were married in 1935 in Fleetwood. He died in 1978. She had lived in Wichita Falls since 1994. She was a cook in a school cafeteria and a member of the Church of Nazarene of Bowie, Texas.
Survivors include a son, Robert Gene Stell of Wichita Falls; a stepdaughter, Gypsie Ann Press of California; two sisters, Betty Jane Tindol of Ryan, Okla., and Deloris Tindol of Cahoma, Texas; a brother, Robert Skinner of Henrietta, Texas; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

William P. Scott Jr.
William Preston Scott Jr., 86, of Wichita Falls died Friday, July 3, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Good Shepherd with the Rev. David E. Nyberg officiating.
Mr. Scott was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Cordele, Ga. He and Page Haynes were married August 20, 1939, in Corinth, Miss. He served in the Navy as an aircraft mechanic for six and a half years. He worked for Civil Service from 1941-1970 as a program analyst at Chanute Air Force Base, Keesler Air Force Base and Sheppard Air Force Base. He worked for the Mississippi State Highway Department in the engineers division for two years. He was a member of Wars and the Quarter Century Radio Clubs. He was a member of the North Texas Gem and Mineral Society, the Obedience Training Club of Wichita Falls, the Men's Breakfast Club of the Church of the Good Shepherd and the N.A.R.F.E.
Survivors include his wife; and a brother, Robert P. of Sun City, Ariz.
Memorials may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
Ray Briggs
Ray Briggs, 82, of Holliday, Texas, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, at a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Mount Joy Cemetery in Daisy, Ark., with the Rev. Travis Garner, former pastor of Mount Joy Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Briggs was born April 4, 1916, in Shidler, Okla. He and Vivian Alene Neal were married Dec. 26, 1936, in Kay County, Okla. She died June 9, 1979. He developed the first hydraulic pipe straightening machine in 1938. He was the owner of Ray's Pipe Service of Odessa, Texas, and Holliday, which he founded in 1943 and operated until his retirement in 1980. He was the organizer and founder of Headin' West Trail Ride and West of Pecos Trail Riders. He was a member of Ector County Sheriff's posse.
Survivors include three sons, A.R. 'Dick' of Holliday, Gilbert L. of Angleton, Texas, and Sam of San Antonio, Texas; two brothers, J.C. of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Louis Briggs of Ponca City; a sister, Lois London of Ponca City; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mary Louise Pettit
Mary Louise Pettit, 59, of Wichita Falls died Saturday, July 4, 1998, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Pettit was born Sept. 25, 1938, in Lafayette, Ind. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, a member of the Wednesday Bible Class, past matron of Faith Chapter No. 713 Order of Eastern Star and member of Wichita Falls Chapter No. 237 of the Eastern Star. She was a cook for the Wichita Falls Independent School District. She had lived in Wichita Falls for 10 years and nine months.
Survivors include her husband, Clifford L. Pettit of Wichita Falls; two sons, Mark Lee of Bluegrove, Texas, and Christopher Louis of Ingleside, Texas; a sister, Helen R. Mack of Conroe, Texas; and four grandchildren.

Lottie Pitts Howell
Lottie Pitts Howell, 81, of Wichita Falls, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls with the Rev. Howard Chapman, assistant pastor, and the Rev. Victor Dindot, of Central Presbyterian Church of Waxahachie, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Howell was born May 31, 1917, in Truscott, Texas. She and J. Leon Howell were married April 2, 1938. He died Jan. 14, 1993. She served as a buyer for McClurkan's for 13 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Charity Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Manley of Waxahachie; a brother, A.E. Pitts of Wichita Falls; and two grandchildren.

Melvin J. Daniells
Melvin J. Daniells, 67, of Wichita Falls, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Washington, Mo.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hampton Vaughan Downtown Chapel with Bill Floyd of the Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in Burkburnett Cemetery.
Mr. Daniells was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Waldo, Ark. He and Sandra Hooper were married April 5, 1972, in Oklahoma City. He served in the Air Force in Korea. He was a former resident of Fort Worth, and had lived in Wichita Falls since 1994. He was a retired truck driver-dispatcher.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Jerry Morris of Watauga, Texas, Bobby Joe of Fort Worth, Roy Lee of Edmond, Okla., and Kenneth Frank of Bethany, Okla.; a daughter, Judy Stanley of Bedford, Texas; three sisters, Lavetha Ann Dickson of Graham, Texas, Lahoma Jo Taylor of Graham, and Juanita Newman of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Kimberly Montgomery
Kimberly Sue Montgomery, 33, of Wichita Falls, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Bob Christmas, pastor of Allendale Baptist Church, officiating. Entombment will be in Crestview Mausoleum.
Ms. Montgomery was born Feb. 2, 1965, in Wichita Falls. She was an instructor for professional ice skating. She was a lifetime resident of Wichita Falls and a Baptist.
Survivors include her parents, John and Carolyn of Wichita Falls; two sisters, Carol Littlefield of Granbury, Texas, and Kay Standridge, of Scotland, Texas; and her grandmothers, Lois Rone of San Antonio and Lottie McReynolds of Electra.
The family will be at the funeral home from 4-5 p.m. this afternoon.

Mrs. Lile was born April 21, 1903, in what is now Healdton, Okla. She and Albert Daume were married in 1928. He died in 1971. She and Garland Lile were married in 1975. He died in 1982. She had lived in Holliday for 65 years before moving to Benbrook five years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Bill Daume of Fort Worth; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

QUANAH, Texas - A.W. 'Dub' Hall, 83, of Quanah died Friday, July 3, 1998, at a Hardeman County hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Price-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clint Young, pastor of the Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Quanah Memorial Park.
Mr. Hall was born May 14, 1915, in Quanah. He was a lifetime resident of Quanah and was retired. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include a stepson, Rocky Rutledge of Fort Worth; a stepdaughter, Pat Glenn of Georgia; four granddaughters; and four great-grandchildren.

Ms. Andrews was born April 27, 1937, in Burkburnett. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Fort Worth.

Jennifer Faye Neher
ARDMORE, Okla. - Jennifer Faye Neher, 25, died Thursday, July 2, 1998, in Arlington, Texas.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the Griffin-Kennedy-Watts Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Leonard officiating. Burial will be in the Burkburnett Cemetery.
Miss Neher was born April 11, 1973, in Wichita Falls. She attended Dickson, Okla., High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the track team and a member of the Student Council. She was the Junior Class Homecoming Princess.

Edna Faye Loyd
Edna Faye Kimbell Loyd, 77, of Wichita Falls died Friday, July 3, 1998, at a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Floral Heights United Methodist Church with the Rev. Merwin Turner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Loyd was born July 23, 1915, in Bluegrove, Texas. She and Max C. Loyd were married in 1937 in Oklahoma. He died in 1974. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1933. She was a Sunday School teacher for the couple's class at Floral Heights United Methodist Church. She served as president of United Methodist Women many times. She was a member of the Woman's Forum. She helped get the Meals on Wheels Program started in Wichita Falls. She was a retired Activities Director with the North Texas Senior Citizen's Center.
Survivors include two daughters, Christine Farmer of Mountain Home, Ark., and Melodee Gaines of Wichita Falls; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 5-6 p.m. today.

O.D. Wortham
BURKBURNETT - O.D. Wortham, 85, of Burkburnett, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, in a Burkburnett nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church of Burkburnett with the Rev. Duane Perkinson, pastor, and the Rev. Lamoin Champ, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona, Texas, officiating. Burial will be in Burkburnett Cemetery under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.
Mr. Wortham was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Sunset, Texas. He and Freda McCord were married Oct. 23, 1932, in Walters, Okla. He retired in 1975 as the owner of a radiator and sheet metal shop in Burkburnett. He was a deacon and member of Central Baptist Church of Burkburnett. He taught Sunday school at Evergreen Nursing Home.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Don of Wichita Falls; a daughter, Gloria Sikes of Burkburnett; a sister, Frances Barton of Pine Hurst, Texas; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. tonight.
