Billie Ruth Murdick
Billie Ruth Murdick, 74, of Wichita Falls died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in Wichita Falls.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel with the Rev. Bob Christmas, pastor of Allendale Baptist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Murdick was born Nov. 29, 1923, in Davidson, Okla. She and Joel A. Murdick were married Feb. 13, 1943, in Grandfield, Okla. He died in 1991. She was employed by Civil Service for 30 years as a secretary in the Service Division in Mortuary Affairs at Sheppard Air Force Base. She moved to Wichita Falls from Frederick, Okla., in 1943. She was a member of Allendale Baptist Church. A son, Bobby Joe, died Nov. 22, 1986.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Melissia Rollins of Wisconsin; a niece, Tomie Evans of Wichita Falls; and a nephew, Larry McLin of Spring, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Allendale Baptist Church.

Phillip Ray Murphy
Phillip Ray Murphy, 53, of Wichita Falls died Saturday, July 18, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Delaney, pastor of St. John Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Murphy was born March 25, 1945, in Point, Texas. He attended Booker T. Washington High School. He was a truck driver.
Survivors include a son, Trent L. Gildon of Dallas; three sisters, Mary Walker of Los Angeles, Lena Knox and JoAnn Eden, both of Wichita Falls; and two grandchildren.
Viewing will be at the funeral home from 1:30-5 p.m. Wednesday.

Pat Allison
HENRIETTA, Texas - Pat Allison, 58, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in a Henrietta hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bellevue, Texas, Cemetery with Larry Miller, pastor of the Cowboy Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.
Mrs. Allison was born June 28, 1940, in Wichita Falls. She was a cosmetologist and a beautician.
Survivors include her husband, George of Henrietta; two daughters, Tammie Benham and Stephanie Allison, both of Henrietta; a brother, Jim Paris of Henrietta; a sister, Rosemary Harle of Bryson, Texas; and three grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 this evening for visitation.

Walter C. Evans
HENRIETTA, Texas - Walter C. Evans, 79, of Petrolia, Texas, died Monday, July 20, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Webb officiating. Burial will be in Petrolia Cemetery.
Mr. Evans was born Aug. 31, 1918, in Elbert, Texas. He was a retired mechanic and a member of the First Baptist Church in Throckmorton. He was a former POW and was captured in North Africa and held for 26 months during World War II. He served on the Petrolia City Council for eight years.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie of Petrolia; six sons, Lanny of Hurst, Texas, Dennis of Reno, Nev., Jimmy of Waurika, Okla., Walter C. Evans Jr. of Petrolia, Marvin Holloman of Little Rock, Ark., and Dee Green of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Pat Jinks of Waurika, Anita McCloud and Jenny Enox, both of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Rube of Whitesboro, Texas, and J.B. of Houston; three sisters, Sybil Miller of Abilene, Texas, Leo McWhorter of Megargel, Texas, and Ima Dene Pemberton of Mineral Wells, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Bobbie Evans c/o First National Bank of Byers, Texas.

Wbenselado Sanchez
GRAHAM, Texas - Wbenselado "Bennie" Sanchez, 86, of Graham died Saturday, July 18, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morrison Funeral Home with the Rev. Ramund Mullen officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. Sanchez was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Brownwood, Texas. He and Olivia Ramirez were married Aug. 4, 1940, in Edinburg County, Texas. She died July 8, 1974. He was self-employed and was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Johnny of Graham; two brothers, Jacob of Graham and Joe of Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Edna Elizabeth Creel
GRAHAM, Texas - Edna Elizabeth Creel, 82, of Graham died Monday, July 20, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home with Cordell Reiner of Mineral Wells officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.
Mrs. Creel was born Oct. 18, 1915, in Coleman, Texas. She and S.J. Creel were married Sept. 17, 1947. He died in 1962. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy E. Preston of Graham; a son, James Keith of Morgan Hill, Calif.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Roy Norie Jr.
The Rev. Roy Norie Jr., 74, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home with the Rev. Clarence Hearron, pastor of Cornerstone Freewill Baptist Church in Denison, Texas, Michael Norie and the Rev. Thurman Murphy, pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, officiating. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
The Rev. Norie was born July 24, 1923, in Denison. He and Juanita Plunkett were married Aug. 10, 1942, in San Diego, Calif. He was the pastor of New Salem Freewill Baptist Church in Decatur, Texas, and was a former pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church in Bowie, Texas. He was also the former pastor of churches in Oklahoma and California. He was a member of the Texas Mission Board for 20 years. He served in the Navy during World War II as an aviation machinist mate. He had lived in Wichita Falls since 1978.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Burleson, Texas, and David of Wichita Falls; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hillside Freewill Baptist College in Moore, Okla.

Willie Sue Nall Labbe
Willie Sue Nall Labbe, 71, of Wichita Falls died Monday, July 20, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Crestview Memorial Park with Dr. Robert Allen officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel.
Mrs. Labbe was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Colorado City, Texas. She and Leonard C. Labbe were married March 21, 1947, in Akron, Ohio. She and her husband owned and operated Dental Technicians, Inc., and she retired as a dental laboratory technician in 1987. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She had lived in Wichita Falls for 50 years and was a former resident of Akron.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Vicki Poole of Wichita Falls and Barbara McLean of Midland, Texas; a sister, Catherine Swortwood of Dallas; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnson Road, Wichita Falls, Texas 76302.

Jerry Prestwood
MINERAL WELLS, Texas - Jerry Prestwood, 58, of Mineral Wells died Sunday, July 19, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. today in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, Texas, with Dr. Mark Bumpus officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells.
Mr. Prestwood was born Sept. 5, 1939, in Lone Star, Texas. He was a location supervisor for Mitchell Energy and retired in 1995. He then worked at Concepts Corporation of America in Mineral Wells. He served in the Army in the Vietnam War. He was a member and a deacon of the First Baptist Church in Mineral Wells.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger; a daughter, Hope of Mineral Wells; a son, Chad of Mineral Wells; a sister, Joan Fox of Bowie, Texas; and a grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Gideons or the American Cancer Society.

Karen Drake
BURKBURNETT - Karen Drake, 52, of Burkburnett died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Burkburnett with Dr. Tim Russell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Burkburnett Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Drake was born April 9, 1946, in Kosse, Texas. She and Glen H. Drake Jr. were married Aug. 17, 1963. She had lived in Burkburnett since 1966. She was the owner of Hodge Podge Craft Mall in Burkburnett. She was active in Boys Club football, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, and was a member of Coachman Cruisers Car Club. She was formerly active in girls and adult softball leagues. A son, Glen Drake III, died in 1992.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Laura Harrelson of Lake Charles, La.; her father, Thomas A. Tompkins of Wichita Falls; a brother, Charles A. Tompkins of Granbury, Texas; and three grandchildren.

Sybil Mae Leonard
Sybil Mae Stampfli Leonard, 90, of Fort Worth died Saturday, July 18, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hampton Vaughan Crestview Chapel. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Leonard was born Aug. 29, 1907, in Newport, Texas. She and Victor Carroll Stampfli were married in 1927. She was a former resident of Wichita Falls, where she lived for more than 70 years. She was a food supervisor for McCrory's and later worked at Gene's Tasty Burgers until she retired at age 80. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. A son, Gregory P. Stampfli, died Oct. 13, 1982.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggye Swenson of Cleburne, Texas, and Glenda Kay Patrick of Fort Worth; a son, Ronald Dale Stampfli of Belle Plaine, Kan.; a sister, Estelle Robbins of Bowie, Texas; a brother, Ivan Gatlin of Amarillo, Texas; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 this evening for visitation.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Paul Oscar Gilstrap
SEYMOUR, Texas - Paul Oscar Gilstrap, 87, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in Odessa, Texas.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Seymour Church of Christ with A.B. Martin and Forrest Martin officiating. Burial will be in Henson Cemetery in Red Springs, Texas, under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
Mr. Gilstrap was born March 16, 1911, in Bomarton, Texas. He and Hoyte Sessions were married Dec. 23, 1935, in Seymour. He was a farmer and a lifetime resident of Baylor County, Texas. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Vance Paul of Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Terry Kay Holman and Maxie Anne Hodges, both of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Edna Faye Gomillion
FORT WORTH - Edna Faye Gomillion, 85, died Saturday, July 18, 1998, in a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Brown, Owens & Brumley Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gomillion was born June 6, 1913, in Miles, Texas. She was a retired housemother and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fort Worth. Her husband, Davis Gomillion Sr., died in 1962.
Survivors include a son, Wallace of Houston; a daughter, Barbara Byrom of Fort Worth; a brother, Kenneth Boman of Dallas; two sisters, Nina Martin of Norman, Okla., and Thelma Bolles of Denver, Colo.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 this evening for visitation.

Stella Lucile Rutledge
NOCONA, Texas - Stella Lucile Smith Rutledge, 88, of Nocona died Saturday, July 18, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Perrin, Texas, Memorial Garden Cemetery with the Rev. Merwin Turner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Rutledge was born Nov. 12, 1909, in Cundiff, Texas. She and Robin Rutledge were married March 30, 1929, in Jacksboro, Texas. He died in 1975. She grew up in Cundiff and Jacksboro, Texas, and moved to Nocona in 1943. She taught school for three years. She was a bookkeeper and retired from Nocona Boot Company after 18 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nocona and United Methodist Women. A daughter, Rhonetta, died June 6, 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, June Wiggs of Pattison, Texas; a sister, Mildred Rhoades of Perrin; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Edwin Lee 'Chief' Reese
GRAHAM, Texas - Edwin Lee "Chief" Reese, 81, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in a Graham nursing center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillan-Satterwhite Funeral Home in Graham. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery Annex in Baird, Texas.
Mr. Reese was born April 4, 1917, in Young County, Texas. He earned his associate's degree from Tarleton Agricultural College in 1938, and earned his bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M University in 1940. He taught agriculture for a year in Cherokee, Texas, and two years in San Saba, Texas. In 1945, he moved to Baird and taught at Baird High School for 16 years. He earned a master of science degree from Texas A&M in 1959. He owned and operated Chief's Texaco in Baird until his retirement in 1982. He was a Mason and a member of the First Baptist Church in Baird. His first wife, Estelle Cox Reese, died in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Viola of Graham; a son, Bryan Lee of Mesquite, Texas; a daughter, Edwina Corn of Corrales, N.M.; a brother, Earle Parker; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Dorothy Embree
RYAN, Okla. - Dorothy Embree, 78, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in her Ryan home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ryan Church of Christ with Roger Schwenn officiating. Burial will be in Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Carter-Smart Funeral Home in Duncan.
Mrs. Embree was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Waurika, Okla. She and B.W. "Dub" Embree were married March 11, 1941, in Waurika. She was a former florist and worked as a receptionist at Morehead-Goetz Funeral Home from 1985-98. She was a member of the Ryan Church of Christ. She was a lifetime resident of Jefferson County, Okla., and moved to Ryan in 1941.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Marvin of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Carl Davis of Eagle Rock, Calif., and Raymond Davis of Bellflower, Calif.; and a grandchild.

Joseph 'Joe' F. Kubena
Joseph "Joe" F. Kubena, 91, of Munday, Texas, died Monday July 20, 1998, in an Abilene, Texas, hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the SPJST Cemetery in Seymour with Dr. Ed Hart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Kubena was born May 12, 1907, in Hallettville, Texas. She moved from Lavaca County to Baylor County, Texas, as a child. He was a farmer for many years.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Carol Lynn Baxter
Carol Lynn Baxter, 36, of Groves, Texas, died Friday, July 17, 1998, in Port Neches, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Kuykendall, associate pastor of Evangel Temple Assembly of God, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Baxter was born Aug. 8, 1961, in Wichita Falls. She was a waitress and member of Calvary Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Leigh of DeSoto, Texas; a son, Billy W. of DeSoto; her mother, Judy Jackson of Wichita Falls; his father, Thomas Jackson of Avon, N.Y.; two brothers, Kenneth W. and Randy Jackson, both of Wichita Falls; and her grandmother, Opal F. Burns of Wichita Falls.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 this evening for visitation.

Bertha Veona Tucker
FREDERICK, Okla. - Bertha Veona Mehl Tucker, 90, of Frederick died Monday, July 20, 1998, in Lawton, Okla., following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gish Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Wyatt, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Tucker was born Oct. 13, 1907, in Frederick. She attended Union schools. She farmed land she received in the Oklahoma Land Rush and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Tommy of Frederick, Jerry of Byron, Ga., and Jacky of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two daughters, Linda Smith of Frederick and Kay Huffman of Yukon, Okla.; a sister, Julia M. Vaughn of Frederick; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Frederick Memorial Cemetery Beautification Fund.

Jearl Lee Rushin
FREDERICK, Okla. - Jearl Lee Rushin, 70, died Sunday, July 19, 1998, in his Davidson, Okla., home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Davidson Cemetery with Charlie May officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Frederick Funeral Home.
Mr. Rushin was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Nocona, Texas. He lived in Tillman County, Okla., for 15 years and drove a truck for 40 years.
Survivors include five sons, Jearl Wyan, Ronald Dewayne and Gary Lee, all of Davidson, David of Wichita Falls and David of Ennis, Texas; three daughters, Velma Marie, Christina Marie and Mary Lee Ragan, all of Ennis; four brothers, Elbert of Davidson, Eddie of Wilberton, Okla., Archie of Ravia, Okla., and Billy of Frederick; three sisters, Pauline Cobb and Melva Miller, both of Davidson, and Nancy Villareal of Oklaunion, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Comanche County Unit, 1305 W. Gore Blvd., Suite A, Lawton, Okla. 73501.

Betty Lois Loftis
FREDERICK, Okla. - Betty Lois Loftis, 69, died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, in her Frederick home, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Gish Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Wyatt, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiating and O.B. Dunlap, minister of the Church of Christ, assisting. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Loftis was born June 5, 1929. She and M.L. Loftis were married Dec. 4, 1945, in Vernon, Texas. She grew up and attended school in Davidson, Okla. She worked for many years as a dental assistant for Dr. Donald Keeter.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Doug of Frederick; two daughters, Sharon Masoner of Tipton, Okla., and Trina Kinder of Chattanooga, Okla.; a brother, Alva Parish of Davidson; three sisters, Ruthie Green, Dorothy Bills and Fran Jones, all of Frederick; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Frederick Public School Enrichment Foundation.
